Authors note: I KNOW IM LATE UPDATING! I'M SORRY! Please forgive me!

Anyway, I got a review on the last chapter that bothered me some, so I thought I'd address it.

It was about Katherine being a "Mary – Sue". I'm aware I made her seem perfect; beautiful, smart, etc. But, as you will see in this chapter, that is not the case.

Think of it this way; she's never been around this many people before, how do you think she'll handle that? I also consider it to be so incredibly early in the fanfic; they only JUST got to Hogwarts, so I'm still developing my characters. She is also very naïve which you will see in this chapter in regards to Bellatrix. She also has a bit of a temper, which you'll see as the story progresses.

Anyway, this chapter isn't too important, just a filler really. There isn't a lot of Sirius – Katherine action, BUT IT IS COMING! Anyway, I think that's it, so enjoy!

I do solemnly swear that I am up to no good ;)

Chapter 5; A New Day, New Experiences

It took the Marauders about 20 minutes to finally catch up with Katherine and considering she didn't know her way around the castle, she ended up on the opposite end of where the Gryffindor Common Room was.

"Those foul, horrible human-beings!" Katherine growled.

"I know, but you mustn't let them get to you." James replied, stifling a laugh.

"Is something funny to you, James Potter?" Katherine asked, raising her eyebrow.

The Marauders turned to look at one another, and simultaneously they all broke out into laugher.

Katherine was fuming in response to their laugher.

"Laugh if you must! But remember I was defending you two!" Katherine said accusingly at Sirius and James.

"Oh Kitty, we aren't laughing at you, we're laughing with you!" James responded, wiping the tears from his eyes.

Katherine paused, "What do you mean?" She asked in a small voice.

"Katherine! You were amazing! I've never heard anyone tell off Bellatrix like that!" Sirius exclaimed.

"Really?" Katherine asked curiously, I wonder why? I mean, surely she can't be that bad? I mean she's a disgusting excuse for a witch, but it's not like she can do the unforgivable curses or bad stuff like that to people; Hogwarts has rules against it.

"Bellatrix is bad Katherine, the whole lot of them are, don't underestimate her." Remus warned.

"But Severus isn't like that…" Katherine said before she was interrupted.

"He is. Trust me Kat, I've known the bloke for five years whereas you've known him for five minutes. He's bad news." James informed her. "Stay away from him Kat, promise me?"

I disagree, Katherine said to herself, but to please her worried brother, she agreed to stay away from Severus.

Once Katherine and The Marauders got to the Common Room, most Gryffindor's were in their dormitories, with the exception of a couple of excited first years who were almost buzzing with adrenaline.

"The girls dormitory is upstairs and down to the right. You're upstairs; all of your things are already up there." James explained.

"Alrighty." Katherine said nervously. She took a deep breath, sucked up her courage, and headed for her dorm room.

Alrighty? She must be nervous; that's the only time she will say that.

"Damn Slytherin's! We need to get them back for what happened tonight!" Sirius growled.

"Hmm..." James pondered mischievously.

A wicked grin flashed upon Sirius' face, "What did you have in mind, Prongsie?"

"Exploding goblets, or something of the sort." James replied roguishly.

Sirius clasped James' shoulder and said, "This is why we're best friends."

"We've only been here for a few hours, and you two are already plotting your way to expulsion." Remus said in disbelief.

Sirius gasped dramatically at Remus as James said, "You think we're stupid enough to get caught?"

"Moony! Have a little faith!" Said Sirius.

"I do have faith in the two of you, but I'm worried you two are going to do something stupid that could possibly end your time here at Hogwarts."

As Katherine walked up the stairs to her dormitory, she could hear her heart beating. All of her well hidden insecurities were coursing threw her body;

What if they hate me?

I've never done this before!

What was I thinking coming here?

The only people I've ever known my age were Xavier, Lavona, and of course, James.

I've never had to connect with people my age.

What will they think of me?

Will I be an outcast?

How will I make friends?

And my roommates will be girls!

The only girl I've known who is my age is Lavona!

How am I going to get through these next two years?

Katherine reached the door leading into her dorm. As she reached for the doorknob she could hear the girls giggling.

Am I the giggling type? Katherine pondered. Only one way to find out.

Katherine took a deep breath, and opened the door.

"That's perfect! Padfoot, you're a bloody genius!" James exclaimed, jumping up from the dorm room floor where he was laying with Sirius; looking at a blueprint of the Great Hall.

"Uh-oh," Remus said, who was folding his clothes and placing them in the chest at the foot of his bed, "That can't be a good sign."

"No Moony, it isn't a good sign, it's a great one!" Sirius said enthusiastically.

"What are you two planning?" Remus asked skeptically.

"Oh trust me," Said James.

"You'll see." Sirius finished for him.

Katherine stood in the open doorway of her new dormitory. The three girls whom she would be sharing a dorm with for the next few years sat before her; staring upon her arrival.

Katherine opened her mouth, but nothing came out. She stood there for a moment before one girl with fiery orange hair stood up and smiled.

"Hello. You must be Katherine. I'm Lily, Lily Evans." The Lily girl said, outstretching her hand for her to shake.

Lily Evans? This must be the girl James fancies!

Katherine stifled a laugh, "Hello, it's nice to meet you." She said shaking her hand.

"This is Lavona and Belladonna." Lily said, gesturing to the two girls sitting on the floor of the dorm.

Katherine recognized the two girls; Her family had known Lavona's forever. And she was sitting with Belladonna at dinner. She had black, choppy hair and thick eyeliner, and she wore a gothic black coat; as opposed to the required robes everyone was obligated to wear.

"Katherine!" Lavona exclaimed while running towards her with open arms. Katherine accepted the hug.

"It's so nice to see you… Blondie" Katherine added, recalling her childhood nickname for her.

"You remember! In that case, 'Hello there, Slacks'" Lavona laughed.

"Slacks?" Lily asked giggling.

"When Katherine was 5 she would only wear slacks. She would refuse to wear anything else. She even had a pair in every color." Lavona added laughing.

Everyone in the room laughed, and warmth coursed through Katherine's body; I already feel so welcomed.

The rest of the night in the girl's dormitory consisted of the four girls siting in a circle on the floor, giggling and eating sweets.

"So Katherine… or Slacks, I guess I should say, is it true that you're James Potter's sister?" Belladonna asked.

"Yes it's true." Said Katherine, taken back slightly by the way she said 'James Potter'.

"That's unbelievable!" Lily bursts, "He's such an arse, and you're actually decent!"

Katherine felt her blood boil at the insult thrown at her brother. Calm down, control your temper.

Lavona nudged Lily in response to the look on Katherine's face.

"Oh! I'm sorry! It's just he's been bugging me for the last 5 years; he always mocks me by acting me to go out with him."

Katherine laughed, he really does fancy you.

"Don't worry about it Lily, I know how James can be." Katherine responded.

Katherine, Belladonna, and Lavona continued talking even after Lily went to bed. At around midnight, they made a pact.

"Okay, so you two already have your nicknames, now I want one!" Belladonna said enthusiastically.

Lavona and Katherine laughed before Lavona began talking.

"What about… Fang!"

"What! Why?" Belladonna asked exasperated.

"Wait…" Katherine said in a serious, urgent tone. The noise in the room died down, everyone listened intently on what Katherine was about to say.

"Are you a vampire?"

Belladonna and Lavona looked at each other thinking, is she a little mad?

Katherine burst out laughing, as did the other two girls.

"Hmm…" Lavona said after the laughter died down, "What about Switch Blade? Because of that muggle weapon you carry around all the time?"

"That's perfect! And we can call you Switch for short!" Katherine agreed enthusiastically.

"Yay! That's perfect!" Belladonna said.

That night they made a pact to stick together. They decided they would be loyal to each other in life and death.

Katherine woke abruptly to something hitting her head. She groaned and turned over.

"Wake up! Wake up!" Belladonna said buzzing.

"Wa-tim-ish-eh?" Katherine slurred.

" 'What time is it?' It's 6:30, breakfast starts at 7:30 and I didn't know how long it takes you to get ready." Belladonna exaplained.

"Ok…" Katherine mumbled getting out of bed. She threw her robes on, brushed her hair, and threw on mascara and neutral-pink lipstick.

Lavona, however, took forever to get ready. Once all four girls were ready, it was 7:45 so they headed to the Great Hall.

Breakfast seemed to drone on for Katherine. She felt anxious to be around so many people at once; it was too overwhelming for her.

Katherine sat with Lavona, Belladonna and Lily; Lavona was re-applying lipstick for the 5th time, Belladonna had her nose in a book about historical romance, and Lily was obsessing over her schedule.

About 15 minutes into breakfast they were given their class schedules; Today Katherine had Divination with the Hufflepuff's, Transfiguration with the Ravenclaw's, Defense Against the Dark Arts with the Slytherin's, and Charms with the Hufflepuff's, as well. Tomorrow she had History of Magic with the Slytherin's, a spare period, Potions with the Slytherin's, and Astronomy with the Hufflepuff's.

Katherine looked around the Great Hall anxiously; she was trying to find her brother, and finally she spotted him.

James was running in with the rest of the Marauders; Remus looked put together as usual, Peter was bent down huffing and puffing because he was tired from the run, James was running his hand through is hair, messing it around, and Sirius stood there looking cool and casual; his tie wasn't tied and it was just hanging around his neck, and his hair was tousled around perfectly.

As Katherine stared she noticed a Ravenclaw girl walk up to Sirius confidently. She tugged on his un-done tie; bringing his face to hers. She whispered something in his ear, and when she walked away she winked at him. James started laughing and slapped Sirius on the back; Sirius looked sly and casual as if it happened to him a lot.

Katherine snapped her head back to the table, whatever, she thought categorically.

For the next few minutes she just picked at her food; if I eat anything I'll puke, she thought uneasily.

Katherine felt arms wrap around her neck tightly. She titled her head back and saw her brother's face looking down at her. She could hear the other 3 Marauders sit at the table as James began talking.

"Soooo… How'd your first night go?"

"It was fine."

"No monsters under your bed?" James asked in an intense voice.

"No… Oh well actually, I may have seen your ghastly face under my bed; it gave me nightmares!" Katherine explained over dramatically.

"Oh please, my face is beautiful!" James said throwing his hands in the air, "Don't you agree, Lily?" James asked winking.

"Oh no, I must agree with Katherine, it's pretty horrible." Lily answered, not looking up from her schedule.

"Oh, Lily. I love how we can joke with one another; it's so playful. So love, I have a question." James added.

"Oh really? And what would that be?" Lily asked uninterested.

"How would you like to be oh so honored as to be my date for the next Hogsmeade trip?" James asked arrogantly.

For the first time since Lily got her schedule, she looked up. "I would much rather shove a fork in my eye." And with that she walked off to her first class; Muggle Studies.

"She wants me." James said staring dopey eyed after her.

"Obviously, Prongs," Sirius said sarcastically, "Who could resist your charm?"

"No self respecting girl would ever date you" Belladonna said bitterly.

Katherine could feel an argument brewing.

"Hey, Switch, we should probably head to Divination. See you all later." She added to the Marauders; avoiding eye contact with Sirius.

The Marauders watched Katherine pull Belladonna out of the Great Hall.

"What was that about?" James pondered aloud.

"You seriously don't remember?" Remus asked annoyed.

"What did I do now, Remus?" James asked with a sigh.

Remus exhaled, "Don't you remember 3rd year when you were trying to hex Snape and you missed and hit her? She had bogeys pouring out of her nose for a week! She had to carry a bucket around with her and dump it every 30 minutes; you humiliated her in front of everyone!"

James and Sirius burst out laughing.

"I remember that! It was hilarious!" Sirius said wiping tears from his eyes.

"It was not! For the next year everyone called her mean names." Remus explained.

"It was still bloody hilarious!" James hollered.

"You two are such gits! No wonder Lily won't go out with you; you're despicable!" Remus grabbed his books and stormed away from the table.

"Is he on his bloody period or something?" James asked Peter and Sirius. "No pun intended" James added laughing.

The whole way to Divination Katherine's stomach was in knots; she's never felt so nervous for anything.

Belladonna led the way to the Divination tower, and once they entered the classroom they were hit with an overwhelming aroma of incense.

Belladonna led the way to a small table in the front corner of the classroom and they set their things down there.

I really hope no one else sits here, Katherine thought looking over at the extra chair at the table.

After a few minutes of just sitting there, a tall, blonde Hufflepuff girl walked over to their table and asked to sit with them; Oh great.

"Uh, sure," Belladonna said hesitantly.

"Thanks," the Hufflepuff girl said politely.

After a moment of silence the girl said, "I'm Sophie by the way, Sophie Fadelle."

"I'm Katherine Potter, and this is Belladonna Shaw."

"It's nice to meet you."

"Yeah, you too."

After that the Divination teacher, Professor Burkhart, came into the classroom; she was very short and thin, and she wore Wizarding Gowns which looked 3 sizes too big.

The class progressed pretty slowly. Burkhart said that we would need to read up on Divination before we could begin to develop the 'inner eye'.

But as it turns out, Sophie and Katherine seemed to have a lot in common and they got on quite well.

Once the class was dismissed they had decided to meet up with Sophie at dinner.

Transfiguration went by extremely slow for Katherine because she is poor at transfiguration. Even back at the Institute she wasn't too good at it; Xavier would always help her.

Dinner was spent with Sophie at the Hufflepuff table where they discussed their favorite bands and authors.

At the end of the night she was so relieved to be back in her dorm room. She had hardly seen James that day, and when she did he was either bugging Lily, or fooling around with Sirius.

Katherine rustled through her trunk and found Xavier's past letters; she grabbed the most recent one, a piece of parchment, an envelope, and a quill and ink. She took them and sat on the floor by her open window; she read his last letter over quickly and started the reply;

My Dearest Xavier,

I absolutely LOVE that poem! It's lovely. I love the way you're so passionate about poetry; I remember when you and I first came to the institute and I would have nightmares so you would come to my room and read me poetry.

I have made friends! So that's good I suppose… but I feel like there's a part of me missing. In total honesty? I try not to think about you, because when I do I have a strong urge to cry… This is so much harder than I thought!

I miss everything about you.

And yes, Sirius is a good guy… However he can be an arse.

It seems like Christmas will never come! I need to see you!

I hope you're able to come for Thanksgiving, that would be amazing! And don't worry, I'll tell James.

I've met some pretty cool people here; Lily, for one, she is the girl my brother's fancied forever. Belladonna, she's a little odd, a little rebellious, but she's a riot! Lavona is a lot like me! I'll think we'll be good friends. I also met this girl Sophie today, and she seems quite nice.

Anyway, I must go. It's getting late and I have class tomorrow. Wish me luck!

And remember, I love you. Always. Write back soon.

Your love,

-Katherine.

Katherine read over the tear stained letter. She wiped her nose with her wrist and tied the letter to Bella's foot, and sent her off.

She then went to her bed, changed into her sleeping gown, and drifted to sleep with the image of Xavier in her head.

Authors Note: So anyway, there it is! I had a lot of writers block with this chapter, and I'm not overly pleased with it, but I needed a filler. And I would just like to say, THERE IS MAJOR FORESHADOWING at one part! Can anyone guess where it is? Anyway, there may be some mistakes in here, because I am like almost falling asleep. But I hope you like it! Please review and give me some opinions, but please be nice :)
