Chapter 6

Riders of the Black Horse

Crisis averted, the gym opened back up.

May entered the gym and immediately felt the massive difference in temperature from the tropical biome of Hoenn.

The entire gym was coated in ice, including the floors.

May noticed that there was a gate barring access from continuing on the other side.

"To get any further you have to complete the puzzle!"

May jumped a bit at the words of the man by the twin statues at the entrance to the gym.

"Sorry to startle you trainer! You have to crack all the squares of ice to open the gate! If you step on one twice you'll end up falling through!"

May frowned at the prospect but was determined to go forward

Meanwhile Bryan was at the weather station.

He walked up to the receptionist's desk.

"Hey. Have there been any…strange…weather patterns anywhere?"

"As a matter of fact yes, there has been very intense heat on Route 116…"

The receptionist trailed off as Bryan ran off, calling out his Tropious and taking flight before landing at the start of the route.

He felt the scorching heat but pressured on, searching the nearby cliffs.

Eventually he came upon a cave that had a suffocating heat coming from it.

"Found you Groudon…"

Silver looked upon his newly evolved Gallade.

For a while he'd never actually seen a use for the sole Shiny Stone he'd had, but after a mishap with his bag his Kirlia had gotten in contact and evolved.

"Another pokedex entry I suppose, but not for Hoenn's section. Hm, I'll have to talk to Professor Oak about that…"

With that thought he cracked open a can of soda and took a swig before heading out to catch more pokemon.

May finally arrived at the gym leader, Juan.

"Let me ask you: did you know?" He questioned.

"Did I know what?" May asked in reply.

"Ah, I should not be so coy," he said with a slight chuckle "It was I who taught Wallace everything there is to know about Pokemon. Once, I had given up my position as the Gym Leader. In my place, I had entrusted Wallace with the gym. However, a compelling reason arose for me to make a comeback."

He then realized he was rambling.

"Ah, but enough chatter. Let us begin our match, shall we? Please, you shall bear witness to our artistry. A grand illusion of water sculpted by Pokemon and myself! Go, Luvdisk!"

"Go, Ludicolo!"

With a gift from Silver, May had been able to evolve her Pokémon to its final stage.

"Luvdisk, use Water Pulse!"

The attack hit but did little damage to the strange pokemon under May's command.

"Ludicolo, use Bullet Seed!"

The attacks hit hard and fast, and Luvdisk went down, type advantage bringing the pain hard.

"Go, Whiscash! Use Earthquake!"

The ground shook and a pillar of earth shot up and hit Ludicolo, but the pokemon was very resistive to this attack as well; May had a solid contender for this fight.

"Use Mega Drain Ludicolo!"

The pokemon absorbed the stamina of its foe into its own, bringing the fish down.

"Go, Sealeo! Use Aurora Beam!"

The rainbow hued attack hit hard and did some real damage to Ludicolo.

"Get back Ludicolo! Go, Blaziken!"

Juan was surprised.

"What an odd choice. Sealeo, use Water Pulse!"

"Dodge it and use Sky Uppercut!"

Blaziken was much faster than the blubbery seal pokemon and darted out of the way of the attack before dashing over to its foe and delivering an uppercut that sent the pokemon flying into the air before it came crashing down, knocked out.

"I see…Go, Crawdaunt! Use Crabhammer!"

"Use Sand-Attack and then hit it with another Sky Uppercut!"

Blaziken launched sand into the eyes of its foe, causing the pokemon to miss its attack and leave itself open to Blaziken's powerful strike.

The dual-type lobster pokemon went down hard.

"Go, Kingdra! Water Pulse!"

This pokemon was insanely fast and its powerful water pulse took out May's glass cannon in one hit.

"Go Ludicolo! Use Ice Beam!"

She'd taught this move to her pokemon via TM.

The attack hit Kingdra hard, but it kept up.

"Ice beam!"

Ludicolo went down, unable to get out of the way in time.

"Go, Rhydon! Use Thunderbolt!"

The bolt struck its foe and while its dragon half may have been resistive to the move, its water half was not and that was its undoing.

The Kingdra was done.

Juan laughed.

"Excellent! Very well, you are the winner. From you, I sense the brilliant shine of skill that will overcome all. However, compared with me or even Wallace, you are lacking in elegance. Perhaps I should make you a loan of my outfit?"

"E-eh..?"

He laughed again.

"I merely jest! Rather than my clothes, I shall reward you with this, the Rain Badge."

He walked over and handed May her final badge.

"Alright! That's a full set of 8!"

Bryan entered the depths of the cavern, sweating profusely from the intense heat.

It was dark, but there was a bright glow from further in the cave.

He entered and was rewarded with Groudon.

He called forth his own Ludicolo to do battle with the behemoth before making himself known.

"Ludicolo, use Hydro Pump!"

The powerful jet of water rushed forward and impacted the ground time, who simply let out a roar before retaliating with a powerful fire blast.

"Hydro pump, again!"

The two collided and turned to steam.

"Water pulse, go!"

The attack hit again. Bryan's team was extremely powerful; his Ludicolo alone could stand up to a legendary pokemon.

He called back the pokemon in favor of his Wailmer.

"Wailmer, surf!"

The wave of water washed over groudon.

At this point it was very, VERY weak.

Bryan hefted a somewhat unique pokeball he'd gotten from Johto: A heavy ball.

He tossed it at the pokemon and it snapped shut around the beast.

It rebounded back by some unseen force and then wobbled a bit before clicking shut.

"One down, one to go…"

May had reached the entrance to Victory road.

The ride up the waterfall on her Ludicolo's back was harrowing and somewhat daunting, but she was able to get up and make her way back to solid ground.

However she nearly jumped out of her skin when something erupted from the waterfall.

Silver landed on the shore and changed forme.

He noticed May's expression.

"Sorry May, didn't mean to scare you."

"I-It's fine. Heard anything from Bryan?"

Silver shook his head.

"Not a word."

"I hope he's okay."

"He'll be fine, don't worry. He wouldn't have gone after those two if he didn't think he could handle it May. Let's get going."

The two entered the cave and eventually reached the exit.

However, a figure stood in the doorway, blocking some of the light.

"Hey May!"

May squinted and managed to make out just who it was….

"Wally?"

"I bet you're surprised to see me here! I made it all the way here, and it's all thanks to you! Losing to you that one time made me stronger ! But... I'm not going to lose anymore! I'm going to win! For the Pokémon who gave me courage and strength!"

He took a stance and drew a pokeball from his belt.

"Okay, here I come! Go, Altaria!"

"Go, Ludicolo! Use Ice Beam!"

The attack hit home and brought down the dragon –flying type in one swift stroke.

"Grr, go Delcatty!"

"Get back Ludicolo! Go Blaziken! Sky uppercut!"

The fighting type took out its foe.

"Arg! Go, Rosellia! Use Bullet Seed!"

"Dodge it and use Overheat Blaziken!"

The fighting type jumped to the side and fired off a wave of scorching fire, bringing down its foe.

"It's up to you Gardevoir!"

"Get back Blaziken! Go, Mightyena! Use crunch!"

Before Gardevor could react it went down.

Wally rushed to his oldest partner's side.

"You did your best..that's all I can ask from you. Thank you."

He called his pokemon back.

"You are strong after all May. I couldn't beat you today…" his look changed to one of determination. "…but one of these days I'll catch up to you!"

With that the two parted ways.

May healed her pokemon and walked over to the shop, purchasing a slew of useful healing items.

She then turned to the door at the end of the room.

It was time for her to finish what she came here for.

Eusine jumped as a slip of paper appeared before him, and floated into his hands.

It read EON and was some form of boat pass.

"You're after Latias correct?"

The Other Mewtwo walked past him and stopped a few feet away.

"Show that to the ticket checker in Slateport. The boat should be done in a few days. Better stock up because that's where she'll be. Take this as a token of my apology."

"W-wait!"

Eusine turned around but the other mewtwo was gone.

"W-well okay then. I guess I have my means to my end now…"

He didn't like this.

He didn't like this one bit.

He didn't want to talk to Ho-Oh for advice but to be brutally honest he didn't really have much of a choice.

He sat down on top of the towering mountain that shone gold in color in a meditatve position, placing the Rainbow Wing on his crossed legs.

Channeling his psychic powers through the feather, he called out to Ho-Oh.

Soon the brilliant rainbow bird arrived and perched himself upon the mountain top.

"What brings you here, hatchling? Why have you called for me?"

"I require advice."

"I see. And why me?"

"Because you've been here before. Tell me, what should I do about this other mewtwo? Is it really okay to let him stay out and about like this?"

"I don't quite understand. Do you speak of the one who was there with us in Johto?"

"No. And yes. You see he was split from Bryan by Deyoxxys' hand. He's done horrible things but Bryan managed to stop him and run him off."

Ho-Oh was about to reply when he froze.

"I'd say he's the least of your worries Silver."

Silver jumped up and turned around, glaring at the white-haired man standing there.

"You….."

Silver went to grab the man by his jacket but passed through him, almost tumbling off the top of the mountain.

The vision of Arceus chuckled.

"This is merely a projection. I am still sleeping within my realm far above. Now, as to why I'm here. Your fight with me weakened the seal. While he cannot actively manipulate the world there are certain events that could change that. However… it seems that winter is falling in my home region. Which means your usefulness is limited due to your natural vulnerability to the cold. You can bundle up all you like but your typing will make it useless. I still have a plan however. If you're needed I will send you. Ta ta!"

With that he vanished.

Silver turned back to Ho-oh.

"It seems that you have found your answer, hatchling. Keep watch for this "other mewtwo" and protect those you can."

With both Groudon and Kyogre captured, Bryan was able to rest easy. Maybe he'd return to Johto now…

May looked at the screen as her team flashed by; she'd beaten the champion but not by much. Thankfully the device healed her team as well as recorded it for the records. Her adventure was finally over…

A cold wind blew through the small town of Littleroot.

Unbeknownst to the boy and his friend who were playing their video games they were being watched.

"So this boy is the one who Arceus intends to send against me? Interesting."

Giratina slithered through the air away from the viewport into the "real" world.

He curled up upon a stone platform and closed his eyes, projecting a human image of his own into the real world.

Testing its controls he got comfortable once more to the form he hadn't used in millennia. Thanks to Silver, the barrier had been weakened between the Distortion World and the "real" world, and thus his illusion was strong enough to be solid and thus more believable.

"Soon, the time shall come for my revenge against arceus. Until then I must wait and influence that boy, convince him to fight for me instead."

END

AN: Sorry if this seems a bit...rushed... but the fact I haven't updated in ages aside, I really don't like Gen 3 and honestly I've lost passion for this story, but it needed some sort of ending. That said...I'm a huge fan of platinum, so do expect those chapters to be longer, better written, and generally more interesting as I have quite a few good ideas for the rewrite. Also, the protagonist will be male in this rewrite and the story will be drastically altered from the original "story of two". Just trust me when I say it's gonna be loads better than this. Again, apologies for it being so..abrupt... but I'm feeling as if I should start focusing more on the story and less on the battles. Feel free to share opinions on this in the reviews section and thanks to all who have waited patiently.
