Chapter 5: Hello and Good-Bye

After the usual and boring orientation, Felicity followed Aurora and the other first year students to their floor and found their suite. The dorms were set up like small apartments, a central common room separated two double rooms and a single room. There were two comfortable looking sofas and two armchairs all covered in pale blue fabric in the common room which had large windows looking out onto the central courtyard. The sofas sat on either side of a low coffee table and the chairs for the moment were near the windows. The room was bright and cozy, Felicity hoped her room was the same way.

"Oh good, I got the single room." Aurora announced after surveying the common room, "I'm a bit of a slob so my parents decided that I should, how did my dad put it, 'live in my own piles of clothes'?

It wasn't terribly funny, but my mom kind of agreed. Besides, I have too many shoes for an Alfea sized closet."

Felicity just nodded. "I'm rooming with Minerva from Zenith." She said, reading the plaque next to the door, amazed that her name was included on the sign. "They sure are efficient here in Magix, in my old school it takes a day and a half to fix a class schedule."

"Well, my dear, that's because you were on Earth, this is the magical dimension."

Felicity walked into her room and saw that whoever Minerva was, she'd claimed the bed closest to the walk in closet. A fashion magazine laid on the pink and blue comforter with an open purple suitcase next to it. Felicity dumped her duffle bag on to the bed next to the window and began to unpack when a girl with short reddish brown hair and ocean blue eyes stepped out of the bathroom.

"Are you Felicity?" the girl asked, giving Felicity's green Roughriders t-shirt and grey cropped sweat pants a once over. The red head was wearing a bright blue cropped sweater and a white chiffon skirt, she had obviously put a little more effort into getting dressed than Felicity really cared to do. "I'm Minerva, but you can call me Min. Where are you from? Your planet wasn't on the door when I came in."

"Yes, I am." Felicity replied, extending her hand which Minerva took. "Everyone calls me Fee though." She added, feeling at ease. "I grew up on Earth, but my mom is from Linphea."

"And I'm Aurora from Solaria." Aurora added, entering the room.

"I've heard of you." Minerva said, smiling. "You're the princess of Solaria, your mom was like the most notorious troublemaker when she was at Alfea, my mom and her were friends.

I heard Stella got held back a year because she couldn't buckle down and focus and she blew up a potions lab. I hope we're not paired up for anything."

Aurora sighed, first Griselda's facial expressions, now this girl. "I'm not like my mother except when it comes to fashion and gossip." The blonde huffed,

Felicity put a hand on Aurora's shoulder. "Relax, Rora."

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean anything by it." Minerva said, apologetically. "If it makes you feel better, my parents and my brother are all techno magic people and I can barely program my phone."

"Now that is sad, now can you keep it down?" Another voice demanded, cutting through the friendly exchanges like a knife. "Some of us don't care that we have inept royalty and the technologically illiterate in our midst."

"Who is this us?" Aurora demanded, turning to see a taller girl with waist length hair two pale shades darker than hers and cornflower blue eyes which were narrowed at her.

"Myself and my sister." The new comer snapped. "We're trying to get a few things done before classes start and we don't need to hear you complaining about your families."

Before Aurora could reply, another girl, who looked to be a nearly carbon copy of the first girl, she had her silvery blonde hair pulled into a fishtail braid that was thrown over one shoulder and eyes so dark blue they were nearly black. There was something vaguely familiar about the second girl, but Felicity couldn't put her finger on it.

"Selia, do you really have to be so rude?" the girl chided as she pulled her sister away. "I'm sorry, I'm Delilah. Selia is having a hard time adjusting to being away from our parents for the first time."

"That still doesn't excuse her behaviour." Aurora replied, scowling at Selia. Minerva and Felicity got a sneaking suspicion that there would be no love lost between those two.

"Of course not, "Delilah agreed with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes which were studying Felicity. "She shouldn't be trying to make enemies on her first day." The paler blonde kept staring at Felicity until the brunette had to look away, something about Delilah made her uneasy, she wished she could figure out why.

"But they're so noisy!" Selia protested, wrenching her shoulder from her sister's grasp. "They're like a gaggle of geese!"

"You're the one who's noisy!" Aurora shot back, placing her hands on her hips. "And rude! We were having a normal conversation until you interrupted it!" the Solarian blonde's voice kept rising, completely ignoring the irony of her words.

Minerva, seeking to keep the peace, suddenly spoke up. "Just the same, one of our other friends just got settled into her school and we wanted to see her before classes start tomorrow."

"Okay, I just hope this doesn't affect our living situation." Delilah replied, slowly dragging Selia back to their room.

After the two strange blondes had returned to their room, Aurora turned to Minerva.

"Nice redirection. So, where should we go?" The hazel eyed girl asked.

"How about Red Fountain?" Minerva suggested, "I wanted to see my brother anyway and prove that I haven't gotten lost getting to my dorm."

"Good idea, Fee hasn't seen anything in Magix yet, may as well start with the schools. I kind of wanted to check out the first years myself."

Felicity didn't say anything, she'd already resigned herself to the fact that any resolve she might have would be broken down by Aurora the moment they'd started talking. The Solarian blonde was clearly strong willed, but she was friendly. Besides, Felicity had no desire to stay in the dorm by herself. Picking up her phone, she followed Minerva and Aurora down to the shuttle stop.

Red Fountain

Stepping off the bus at Red Fountain was a bit of a shock for Felicity, not only was the building floating in mid air, but the structure was rather phallic.

"Looks like someone's compensating." Felicity muttered under her breath.

"Did you say something, Fee?" Aurora asked as they entered the elevators to head to the main building.

Felicity's cheeks turned pink. "No, nothing. This is just a very- odd building."

"It was rebuilt when our parents were in their second year- maybe third for our dads after the first battle with the Trix." Minerva replied, not hearing Felicity's initial comment. She had been informed on their short trip over to Red Fountain that Felicity was the daughter of an old friend of their parents and had been raised on Earth not knowing of her actual history. Aurora, knowing a little bit more of Flora's history since Stella had assisted in the escape hadn't revealed which friend.

"Don't worry, it's completely safe, they made it nearly dragon proof since that battle." Aurora added with the false assumption that Felicity's facial expressions were because she didn't trust the structural integrity of Red Fountain.

"So, this battle, how bad was it?" Felicity asked since both girls had brought it up.

"Pretty bad. The Trix attacked Magix after stealing Mara's mom's powers, they kinda took over Cloud Tower and stuck their classmates in the dungeons." Minerva replied as they started down the wing for the second year students where her brother was staying.

"Yeah, then when Gavin's dad came over to try and see the witch who'd spelled him, she locked him in the dungeon too." Aurora added with a grin.

"Then when my dad escaped, he managed to save your parents' asses by attacking the leader of the bugs that were getting ready to attack them." Gavin finished, coming up behind the trio. He wasn't surprised to see Aurora and Minerva at Red Fountain since both girls had older siblings attending the school, but he was caught off guard seeing Felicity there. From what he had heard last night Felicity wasn't interested in leaving for Alfea.

"Impressive." Felicity said, earning a smile from Gavin.

"Hey, I didn't think you'd be coming here after last night." Gavin said, still looking at Felicity. "Uh, thanks by the way."
Felicity smiled and felt her face grow warm. "Yeah, neither did I, but you can thank Samara and my mom for dragging me here."

"I just might. Was it kicking and screaming?"

"You two know each other?" Minerva asked, not quite putting two and two together. She knew that Felicity was from Earth and that Gavin hadn't left Melody except for school.

"Kind of." Felicity replied. "We met last night in my front yard after Samara crash landed at the West Ed Mall."

"Fee saved Gavin's life when he was inches away from getting his throat ripped out." Aurora put in helpfully. "So now he has the chance to repay that debt since she's here in Magix."

Felicity shivered, "I hope not, Rora."

"That sounds romantic though." Minerva sighed.

"No, it sounds messy and dangerous." Felicity countered. "And I really don't want to need to be rescued. I'm sure once was enough for Gavin as well."

"Still, you never know, right Fee? A chance encounter and now you meet up again, it could be fate." The ginger haired fairy's eyes were practically shining with the thought of plotting a romance.

Gavin shook his head. Minerva was a good friend and one of the few people who didn't judge him based on how his dad had started out at Red Fountain, but she tended to get carried away with her romantic ideas. Like Felicity he hoped that there wouldn't be any more rescuing unless it was for a final exam. However he had a sneaking suspicion that might not be the case.

"Oh, come off it Min, you know Gavin doesn't have a romantic bone in his body." Aurora laughed, bringing her roommate back to reality.

"Things can change." Minerva countered with a smile.

Felicity rolled her eyes, she didn't know if she wanted to laugh or bang her head repeatedly into a wall. Saving someone with your strange, newly manifested powers was not the basis for a real relationship, at least not in her ideal world.

"So, Min, did you come to see Tyler or try and influence my nonexistent love life?" Gavin asked sounding slightly amused.

"Can't I do both?"

"Uh, no." Gavin replied with a fake laugh. "Tyler and I roommates again because he's just that unlucky. Our room is number three twenty-seven just down the hall."

"Seriously, the same room as last year?" Minerva asked, "Were you two that bad?"

"Cordatorta decided that it was too much work to replaster the walls after Ty and I tried that one experiment."

"So, I take it you like to leave your mark on things, hey?" Felicity teased with a smile that Gavin quickly returned.

"Yeah, you could say that." Gavin replied. "Tyler and I were messing with his electronics and kind of blew a hole in the wall last year."

Felicity laughed, "That I can believe."

Minerva said nothing, she just looked at Aurora with a quizzical look on her face. The red head fairy couldn't believe that she was actually witnessing Gavin flirt with someone for the first time in his life. Aurora returned her friend's look with a half-smile of her own, it would seem that their friend was finally going to end up with a girlfriend instead of a girl who was a friend.

Gavin caught his longtime friends exchanging looks and scowled. The last thing he wanted was Minerva trying to reenact one of her romance novels on his private life. He decided to put an end to it. There was going to be no plotting of his love life if he could help it.

"As much as I'd love to stay and chat, I have to go check on something with one of my instructors." Gavin announced abruptly. "Have a nice evening."

And without a second glance, Gavin hurried off towards the faculty wings, leaving Minerva to grumble.

"Like hell you were on your way there." The ginger haired fairy groused at her friend's retreating form.

"Oh, whatever." Aurora soothed, "let's just go bother Tyler and get it over with. I need a good ten hours of sleep before tomorrow's classes."

"Was it something I said?" Felicity asked

"No Gavin's always been like that." Aurora replied, patting her friend on the shoulder, "That's probably why he'll end up on his own with about forty cats for company.

"He did strike me as a cat person." Felicity smiled.

Minerva shook her head and started heading down the hallway towards the dorms leaving Aurora and Felicity to scurry in her wake. Aurora had obviously been to Red Fountain before as well so she had no trouble keeping up and not being distracted, Felicity on the other hand had only been in the magical dimension for six hours and prior to that had no knowledge of any schools there. So when she lost her friends after stopping to stare out one of the windows and wonder how the building managed to float Felicity panicked and ran around the nearest corner in to Samara knocking the girl over. Samara's fellow female student, Nyla of Andros just stood there watching the other two girls.

"I don't believe it!" Samara exclaimed, giving Felicity a bone jarring hug after they'd both righted themselves. "I thought I'd have to go on a search tomorrow to see if you actually stayed in Magix, and here you are at Red Fountain!"

"Well, whatever my mom wrote in that letter for Ms Faraganda it worked." Felicity replied, looking down at Samara who seemed almost reluctant to let her go. "Aurora even offered to let me share her room."

"Oh, wow! She must really like you."

Felicity shrugged, "Her and Minerva are okay. By the way, did you see Aurora go by here? I'm with her and Min looking for Min's brother."

"A girl in impossibly high red heels with long blond hair and a girl with some bright blue sandals and red hair?" Nyla asked curious.

"Yes."

"They went down the hall a bit further."

"Thanks, we'll have to catch up later."

As Felicity disappeared down the hall Samara and Nyla continued on their personal orientation of Red Fountain and Damien came out from the alcove where he'd been spying on the girls. He felt almost as happy as Samara now that he had some good news to report to his coven members. Like Samara, Damien was worried he would have to search all over to find that stone again, but instead it had shown up as though the hand of fate herself had handed it to him. Best of all, it was in the possession of a novice fairy.

Without a word, Damien hurried to his own dorm to text the twins since they were already sharing a suite at Alfea with Felicity and the other two fairies. Hopefully those two could work something out quickly so he and Seraphina could focus on finding the other items they needed.

This will be updated as I see fit. I have a plot, but I also work full time.

The Roughriders are a Canadian Football team based in Sasketchewan, they're my step father in law's favourite team.
