Chapter 6
John's point a view
Now that I knew that Samuel was mine, I need to have another chat with Louise. I don't know why she doesn't want her little boy to see her like this. It isn't right that Samuel should go without his mother. If I had of known that Louise was expecting I would have made sure she had everything that she needed for him.
I am glad that Louise managed to let me know a year later, which means that I haven't really missed out on much with my son. I still feel for Virgil because he still feels bad about missing five years of Robyn's life but in saying that he is an amazing Dad to her.
A half an hour later I walk back into the hospital to see Louise as I am hoping that we can work this out between us. After all a child needs both his parents. I start knocking on the door but I got no reply so I walked in to find that Louise isn't there. So I needed to find out where she is and walk over to the nurse's station to find out what is going on.
"Hey there I was just wondering what is happening with my girlfriend? I was just talking to her this morning but she isn't in her room." I asked the nurse
"I will get the doctor in charge to come and talk to you. Do you know if Louise has any family that we should know about?"
"I am not sure but my sister in law her best friend was in foster care with her for a year. I don't think she has any other family to be honest. She keeps herself to herself these days why?"
"If you could please give her a phone call and tell her to come here. Once she gets here then I can let you know what is going on" said the nurse
"Ok then I won't be long" I said as I left the hospital in order to make this phone call. I have this gut feeling that something has happened to her. So I look up Virgil's number and made the call.
"Hey Virg are you able to talk? I really need to talk to you both it's about Louise"
"Ok John we will meet you at the hospital, did they say if anything is wrong with her?"
"That is the thing Virg, they are not telling me anything until you guys arrive. According to them Jo is down as Louise's next of kin. I feel as if something has happened to her"
"Ok John try not to panic and we will see you in a few minutes" said Virgil he knows that I am upset and scared by the sound of my voice.
While I am waiting for both Virgil and Jo to get here. I decide to go and see my son up in the children's ward. I really want to take my son home now that I know Samuel is mine. Virgil and Jo have both been a great support to me. I don't know where I would be without them. As I reach the ward I bum into Jo's other best friend Lisa who not only works up here but works down in A&E as well.
"Hey John are you wanting to see Samuel at all?" Lisa asked me
"Please Lisa I am waiting on Virgil and Jo to get here so I can find out what is going on with Louise"
"Ok then I will go and get this sorted for you. Is there anything else you need?"
"No nothing Lisa, I just want to see my son and hopefully take him home with me" just as Lisa walks away my phone goes off telling me that Virgil is nearby. I have this feeling that something is really wrong.
"Ok John Samuel is ready for you to see him. He still will be a bit strange with you but I am sure he will get to know you"
"Lisa?"
"Yes John?"
"Would it be ok if I took Samuel down with me? IF something has happened then I want to be able to walk out of here with my son"
"No problem John, I will go and get the stroller ready for you. Why don't you go down stairs and find out about Louise and I will get this little guy ready for you? "
"You sure Lisa?"
"Yes now go on"
I got myself downstairs and made my way outside the hospital to meet Virgil and Jo.
"God John you look like shit, what's up?"
"I went to work things out with Louise, you know talk to her about Samuel now that he is mine. When I walked into her room she wasn't there"
"Then what? Asked Jo
"I asked where she was and got told that they needed to talk to her next of kin. Jo Louise had your name down; I know that something is wrong. I can feel it."
"Why don't we go and find out what is going on here John, maybe she is just away for tests" said Virgil as we all walked back over to the nurses' station.
"Hey there my name is Jo and I am here to find out what is happening with my younger sister?" asked Jo
"If you hold on I will get the doctor in charge of Louise to come and see you. Why don't you wait in our waiting room and I will let him know that you are here?"
We waited like forever, all sorts of thoughts were running through my head plus Virgil knows that I am upset over this whole thing. How can Louise be allowed to get away with this? After waiting half an hour the doctor made an appearance.
"Are you Jo?"
"Yes I am and this is my husband to be and this is Louise's partner John. Can you please tell us what is happening?" asked Jo
"I am so sorry to have to tell you this but for the last few weeks Louise had decided to stop her treatment. As a result of this things down hill for her. About an hour ago she passed away. I am so sorry again
