Using the prompt 'hope'

TeddyFredii

Teddy was just about to go into his sixth year when Fred Weasley the second was born. There was a big hustle and bustle about the whole thing because George and Angelina had been together for years. Longer than Percy and Audrey, or Bill and Fleur (before they had got married), yet everyone was shacking up, having kids, and buying a house before they'd even considered getting married. So when little Fred was born, there were plenty of 'aww's' and ahh's' mixed in with 'about bloody time' and 'all his cousins are so much older than him'.

It was the end of July of two thousand and fifteen when Fred was born, and Teddy tagged along with Harry and Ginny and their children to see the new baby. Teddy hadn't known the child's namesake, but he had seen plenty of photographs, and when he first caught a glimpse of him, he thought him to look nothing like his Uncle Fred. He didn't even have the Weasley red hair, or the freckles, but had brown skin and a head full of black hair.

"Everyone else has called their kids after someone," George said, shrugging. He looked the perfect image of a proud father, and Teddy grinned. He, himself, was named after his own grandfather.

"Teddy, do you want to hold him?"

Teddy was surprised that they had even bothered to ask him. He had been to visit after a few of the Weasley children had been born, but never did they ask him if he wanted to hold the baby. Normally the children were being smothered by grandparents, or aunts, or uncles, or siblings. He was generally overlooked as nothing more than a tagalong.

"Oh… I…."

"Go ahead, Teddy." That was Angelina, a tired smile on her lips. "Go ahead."

George held the baby out to him, and with hesitant arms, Teddy took Fred. He felt nothing like he'd imagined in his arms. He was heavy, and he couldn't even lift his own head. But he had wide, brown eyes and they were staring up at him.

"He's cute."

Everyone laughed at that, and Teddy felt a blush creep up on his cheeks. Had he said the wrong thing?

"That he is, dear." Molly Weasley patted him on the arm.

"Teddy." That was Angelina speaking again. Why she was even bothering, Teddy had no idea. She needed to sleep, even he knew that.

"Yes?"

"George and I were wondering – you're almost seventeen now, meaning you're almost of age."

"Not until next year," Teddy reminded her.

Angelina nodded. "Anyway, we were wondering if you would like to be Fred's godfather?"

Teddy almost dropped the baby. "G-godfather?" he stuttered.

They nodded.

"Well, we hope you want to be," George said.

Teddy wasn't entirely sure how to respond to that. He, of course, knew George and Angelina (and had spent many hours of his childhood in George's joke shop) but for them to ask him to be their son's godfather… had they confused him with someone else?

"Answer, Teddy." That was Ginny, smiling at him.

Teddy looked to her, and then to Fred in his arms. Fred was still watching him with wide, brown eyes. "I'd… I'd love to," he said, nodding.

George and Angelina seemed delighted. "You'll make an excellent role model, mate," George said. "Couldn't ask for anyone better."

Once again a moment of hesitation and doubt crept into Teddy's mind – they weren't the strand of the Weasley family he knew all that well – but he kept it to himself and smiled. He'd be the best godfather he could be; he'd make sure of it.

Looking once more at Fred in his arms, he smiled. "Hey, Fred," he said. "I'm your godfather; I'm Teddy."

Okay, so this wasn't my head canon before this (and I'm still not entirely sure it fits all that well with my over all head canon) but I liked the way this turned out anyway. Please tell me what you thought!
