AN: Hi again! Thanks for all the support you've given me for this story! For those who said this is reminding them of Rise of the Guardians, funny story about that. When I started this I've never actually seen the movie but always wanted to. Then, I finally bought the movie on my birthday two years ago. I never noticed the comparison until you guys pointed it out and I found it funny! I'm so glad people are enjoying this!
Anyway, this chapter is a short story about St. Nick. Don't worry, longer chapters will come soon!
Chapter 6: The Story of St. Nick
St. Nicholas Clause was a valuable asset to The Order centuries ago.
His Innocence was not only unique, but it helped gained an upper hand during the long war with the Millennium Earl.
His Innocence was called Genesis, supposedly a parasitic type, and with it St. Nick could forge something, anything he desires, out of nothing, but only inanimate objects.
What's great about it is that he can supply weapons to Finders. As you already know, Akuma are nearly impossible to kill without Innocence. Otherwise, killing the Akuma without Innocence destroys the souls trapped in them. But since these weapons are made from Innocence, the souls can be freed and they are a lot easier to destroy.
Because of how strong and useful Genesis was, it was believed that St. Nick possessed The Heart and The Order had him protected at all times from it being destroyed by The Earl.
Though it was a highpoint for the Black Order at the time, there were downsides however, for Nick mostly.
Basically, he was kept as a running factory for supply in weaponry. The Higher-ups truly believed they could win the war so demand was high. Unfortunately, so much exertion on his Innocence costed Nick a great deal of his strength, as well as his life span. Preventing that at all costs, scientists were ordered to find ways to help prolong his life during the war, so he won't die too early. In other words, St. Nick was no longer treated as a human, but rather a tool to be used however the Higher-ups see fit. Nothing new to all of us…
And so, fed up with the treatment he was given, Nick escaped. How he did it was uncertain, but he left no traces for anyone to find him, not even The Earl himself.
While he was with The Order, he was given the name The Creator. But after he left, he was given a new name, a name given by children.
It was only by the stories from these children that St. Nick was rediscovered after his period of absence. Once a year at the Eve of Christmas, he would appear, giving toys he created from his Innocence. It was a life he and Genesis preferred, because for once, they could bring happiness to mankind, even if it's just a little.
And how was St. Nick able to live for so long? Well it's thanks to Genesis surprisingly. Apparently, Genesis can feed its strength off of a child's happiness and purity. Thus, prolonging Nick's life beyond normal human mortality.
So as long as children can look forward to another year with gifts under their tree, Santa Clause will always return.
XXX HoHoHo XXX
Allen Walker followed Jack Frost through a set of unfamiliar halls. They are no longer made of ice, but wood. Jack had used his magical key again so they must be in a different building.
As they continued to their unknown destination, Allen's senses told him he's being watched.
He felt many pairs of eyes coming from all around him, yet he couldn't find where they're coming from and it made him uneasy.
"Don't worry, they're harmless," he hears Jack say. "In fact, they're more scared of you than you are of them."
Allen looks to him, confused. "Where are we? And why are we here?"
"We're visiting a good friend of mine. He's been wanting to meet you, Allen."
"Why?"
Jack pauses, then says, "I'm not sure…"
Further into the halls he spots Yeti. They were heavily armed, as if guarding something extremely important. Scampering to and fro were nurses. They were tiny, almost looked like children, but like Jack, their ears were pointed.
The ice creature halted one of them.
"How is he?"
"Oh Jack!" She hastily bowed. Her voice sounded like a ten year old. "We're able to stabilize him thanks to the Yetis' medicine, but that's seems to be all we can do… There are no improvements to his health."
She sounded so dejected and she was in near tears. It made Allen feel sorry for her and wonder who this person was that they were about to see. What's wrong with his health?
Since she was so small, Jack had to kneel to pat her head. "You're doing your best and that's good enough."
"B-But-"
"We're going to see him now. Will that be alright?"
It was then the small girl took notice of Allen and her eyes grew in shock. Even now, the young exorcist still couldn't understand this. He's learned that it's not his appearance, but his presence. Everyone here seems to know something he doesn't.
"Now do you understand? This is important," Jack continues.
She nods. "Y-Yes. He's asleep right now and even if he wakes he won't make much conversation so-"
"We won't push him. Thank you and sorry for interrupting."
He lets her go and the two continue on. Allen had the urge to start pressing Jack with questions, but quelled them down, feeling he'll soon find out when they meet the Ice King's friend.
The door was guarded by two additional armed Yeti, but bowed and stepped aside upon seeing them. Jack gave a nod to them both.
"He's in here."
He twists the knob to the wooden door and steps inside. Allen follows silently, not knowing what to expect.
The room inside was massive. With all the piles of pillows and stuffed toys in different colors and sizes, the pace gave a cozy feel. Drapes hung from the ceiling and more toys lay in shelves alongside books. It was a comfy environment, a huge contrast for a person undergoing a serious condition.
The bed was huge as well, and on each side were gifts of all sorts and get well cards from so many people, they came in piles.
The bed's occupant was covered in layers of sheets and the rise and fall of his breathing were slow. Very slow. Allen couldn't see much from afar, but as they drew nearer, he got a good look at his face. The sight was unforgiving.
The man's skin was unhealthily pale compared to Jack's and there seemed to be no meat in his cheeks, only bone. Allen could only imagine what the rest of his body looked like, but it'd probably resemble a corpse not yet dead.
"He's looked better, but now age is getting to him," Jack says grimly, moving to stand next to the bedridden man sound asleep. "He's long overdue. Seeing him like this reminds me that he's not like us, that he's still human."
"Who… Who is he?" Allen asks.
"I think you know who this person is Allen and I can tell you, he's the real deal."
Seeing the boy's bewildered face as he tries to comprehend this man and who he is, made the Ice King smile gently.
"That's right kid. This is my good friend St. Nicholas Clause."
AN: Again, sorry this chapter is short but it felt appropriate to end here! But at least now you know the origin of Santa :D
