A/N: The scheduled updates should be every other week; either on Sundays and Saturdays.
Nothing of importance to say this time around so let's get straight into the next installment.
Disclaimer: I don't own Code Geass.
Chapter 6
-Zero-
10 seconds.
Waiting for the elevator to arrive, a masked figure, cloaked in black, stood calmly.
He closed his eyes briefly to exhale a warm breath that filled his mask; the moisture of his own air often irritated his eyes – it made him drowsy whenever he kept them open for too long.
9 seconds.
Tormented inside, this was the man who became the Knight of Zero – a legend in itself and would help the emperor change the world. There was too much left undone to reveal himself now as the long-lost Suza–.
8 seconds.
He stopped himself; he's sacrificed that identity – it would do him well to forget about it.
What matters his that he is now, at this moment, Zero. The murderer of Euphemia and the Japanese. No. That was Lelouch. That was the man who did anything to gain his ends. Why he helped him? It's not as if he was without a semblance of understanding.
7 seconds.
Zero was the miracle-worker; an image of a messiah to be worn by the next big symbol. A tool. An orchestrated costume that worked wonders on his audience. It's fitting that it all began and ended with Zero. And yet, the last thing he saw as Lelouch's bloodied hand marked him for his sins. He always wanted to punish himself.
6 seconds.
And Lelouch? He was simply a user of the tool. His best ally and his sworn rival. The enemy of the world. But, what he saw that day. It made him question what was right and wrong. As long as he could punish himself for his past sings, he would gladly accept the image of Zero knowing full well the future ahead of him. He couldn't kill himself but he would surely punish himself with this.
5 seconds.
And yet, his character. All that he had made himself out to be. It was broken as he cried understanding everything in those last actions of Lelouch. He didn't cry when he killed so many with the F.L.E.I.J.A.. He laughed. Right at the edge of the crater. What else could he do?
4 seconds.
But here he was, reminiscing on the past. The curse of Geass would torment him beyond Lelouch's orders. It had to be Geass. It was the only thing that could explain why he saw those visions on that day. Maybe it explained why Nunnally also understood all that had happened in those final moments. She had told him shortly after they were alone that day and after she was unshackled that she saw her, "big brother for what he really wanted." She was crying.
Suzak– Zero, was also crying.
3.
That day, he saw the flashing vision, and it felt just like the time on Kamine Island. It felt just like the time C.C. hadmet him during Euphemia's massacre. Visions flowing and a subconscious movement that messed with his sense of time and space. Although he only felt him for a split second, he saw Lelouch's own life flash before his eyes in what seemed to be months.
2.
He saw everything Lelouch had accomplished. As far back as his memories with him as a childhood friend when he first lived with them. He saw further back to how his father treated him. And as tears ran down the masked Kururugi's face he understood why those terrible acts that seemed unnecessary happened – it was an irresponsible accident. You lied to me Lelouch.
1.
The benefit of wearing such a mask was that he could cry silently and no one would know. He cried when he murdered his father – no. He didn't have a father as of this moment. But he did cry when he killed his friend. Lelouch. The one person he could remember without feeling a traitor to his own image and ideas. While out of suit, he was Suzaku, the Knight of Zero, protector of Nunnally, the Empress of Britannia. As of right now, he was simply the miracle-worker.
Zero.
The doors to the elevator slid open.
A/N: If you're confused read this:
At the assassination of Emperor Lelouch, just as Nunnally had a flashback, here, I'm insinuating that Suzaku had a flashback.
