Well, I thought the summer would allow me to do some updating, but with a toddler at home and another now now on the way...yeah, that did not happen. I do apologize. But I am working during what time I have. I have a good chunk of the end written, but I need those battle sequences and it will find its way here.
Please review the story if you are enjoying it...and even if you are not.
We are back in Vegas with the Scavengers and Francis. it is a short chapter, but still, important.
Chapter Three - Someone to care
Hawkeye's Log: Day 261
It had been over a year since I got hooked up with the kid Avengers and it has been a nightmare ever since.
Yeah sure, we had defeated the drones and saved Tony Stark from Ultron, but that was just a fight. The war was still on.
This James Rogers kid nearly got all his friends killed, but he wasn't a bad fighter. He was just OK.
Pym, well he can be quite pesky sometimes, but that Azari. Now he is a guy that I can work with. He is so savage and right to the point.
That Torunn is quite a looker too. She is so beautiful, but yet her mannerisms as an immortal from another realm, planet, or whatever, make her to be a little weird.
it is nice to have some people on my side. Now I won't die alone out there. Yeah I have got Wild Thing on my side, but even then, we still have to shut down the robotic facilities all over the planet. The one in what was once Los Angeles is a fortress of metal and cold steel death. Every team that has attempted to go there wound up dead.
So we would stay away for there and try and scrape out a meager existence here.
But even then, supplies would continue to run low and we were going to need to move on again.
This is Francis Barton till I hopefully speak again.
Scavengers Main Location - Las Vegas
The caverns deep within the mountain chain in the old Sin City provided cooling shade, water when the sky would allow it, and some attempts to hide and hunt for surviving game for food.
Some of the Scavengers worked for their food, while others kept the caverns protected. No matter what though, everyone needed to pull their weight in order to survive.
In an isolated cavern, Tony Stark had set up a computer mainframe area where he could monitor the major robotic factories, the area surrounding their base and several others, all the while searching for various food resources for the survivors.
The radars were looking very bleak.
James Rogers came sauntering into the cave, half asleep and approached from behind.
"James," Tony spoke, "why would you be up so late?"
"Can't sleep," the youth of fifteen replied. "Yeah, me. Kind of funny. I just, I get to sleep, but I cannot stay asleep."
"Happens all the time," he told him.
"Anything new out there?" the young Avenger asked while looking at the screen. "Anymore signs of life or resources we can use?"
"I was tracking a comet entry a few hours ago and it landed somewhere near the Grand Canyon," Tony spoke of his tracking of the source, "however Ultron's drones got there so I had to decrease and power down the satellite feeds before we picked up."
"A comet? Since when was a comet supposed to come heading for our planet...and don't they usually leave a huge path of destruction in their wake?"
"Depending on their size," Tony answered as he ran the calculations. "I show that this comet was tiny. Probably not much bigger than your average human lifeform."
"Hmm," the young son of Captain America replied. "Too bad it couldn't have had better aim and nailed the Citadel in "Lost Angeles."
"More than likely, Ultron's drones or cannons would have shot it out of the sky," another voice came to join the party. It was Francis Barton returning from his nightly recon assignment.
"Anything out there Frankie?" James asked.
"Bite me," Francis replied. "Nothing new on the homefront. Pretty much business as usual near the Citadel. No new signals, minus that shooting star..."
"Comet," James interjected.
"Whatever. That "comet" that came down. Lost sight of it near the mountains."
"Crashed somewhere near the Grand Canyon," Tony replied. "We're not going to get to it and investigate, but if it becomes a problem."
"On top of all our other ones..." Francis added.
"Sometimes, those comets can be something else," their leader stated. "I wanted to track it just in case it was something useful."
"Yeah we have all heard the stories of the Asgardians and other gods of the universe," he spoke to Tony Stark and kid James. "They haven't cared to interfere so far, sent Torunn back here to die with us, so why should we care now?"
It was clear that he did not care.
"I am hitting the rack for the day," Francis told them. "Preferably do not wake me unless we are dying because I am beat."
They watched as Hawkeye's heir left the chamber and headed for his nest where he would get some shut eye.
Tony looked to young James Rogers. "You should do the same and get back to sleep," he suggested.
"Right on Tony. Try and close your eyes too. Night."
"Good night Cap," Tony told him as he turned back to his console.
Before he could rest however, he would finish his analysis of the comet and hope that it was more than that.
Yes, Thor and the other gods had abandoned them all this time. They had come to help, but it would take more than helping Torunn and giving her new powers that would help them to purge the Earth of Ultron's control.
All they needed was one to still care.
Next chapter, the princess is back and she is going to need some help. Please continue to review!
