Chapter 6
On Christmas morning, Patty and Liz dragged Kid out of bed and to the living room. "What is wrong with you guys?" He asked sleepily.
"Don't be so grumpy, Kid." He saw that his sister, who was sitting on the couch, was waiting for him with a small present in her hand. It was black with a white bow in the top. "It's for you." She said as she gave it to him. Kid opened the box and saw a black six-pointed star, perfectly symmetrical. "It took me five hours to get it perfect." Marceline said. On the star, the six points each had a letter; K for Kid, L for Liz, P for Patty, LD for Lord Death, M for Marceline, and ML. "What does ML stand for?" Liz asked as she pointed. Marceline stared at that point and hers and Kid's eyes widened. "Well I wanted to cover all of the points, so I just put two random letters there." Marceline said as she gave out a fake laugh.
Kid stared at his little sister and knew the reason why she added the ML to the star. He patted her head and said "I like it. Thanks Marci."
The four continued with opening presents and got what they wanted: all of Patty's gifts were something giraffe related, Liz got all of the latest magazines, and all of Kid's presents had something to do with symmetry. "Aw it's the last one." Patty peered behind the tree to see one last present. "It's for you Marci."
"Wonder what it is." Marceline opened the box and saw a small book inside, titled Romeo and Juliet. "No way." She said. A note was also in the box.
To my little sis Marci. Hope you like the book. It's what you wanted right?
Love, your big bro.
"Is this from you, Kid?" Marceline turned to her brother, who shrugged and shook his head no. Marceline stared at the book again. "Then it must be from him." She muttered before she looked up. "You like those kinds of books?" Liz asked her, snapping her out of thought. "Yeah but I'm not a bookworm like Maka." She said before she laughed. "Besides, it's my favorite play."
"I thought it was a book." Patty said.
"It's a play that was turned into a book." Kid explained. "We always read Dad's copy when we were little. And now we have our own." Marceline nodded before she set the book on the couch and stood in the middle of the room.
"Romeo Romeo wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name
Or if thou wilt not, but be sworn my love
And I'll no longer be a Capulet."
"Ooohh." The Thompson sisters said while clapping. Marceline stared at Kid and whispered "This is where you come in."
"Oh right." Kid replied before he stood by his sister.
"Shall I hear more, or shall I speak at this?"
Marceline giggled as they both went on, surprising Liz and Patty that they remembered all of this when they were little. After a while, Marceline motioned for Liz to pick up the book and flip to where they were. "You want me to say this?!"
"It's only one line." Marceline whispered back. "And put some heart into it." Liz groaned before she stood up and said "Madam!"
Marceline looked shocked before she turned back to Kid.
"I hear some noise within Dear love. adieu
Anon good Nurse!- Sweet Montague, be true
Stay but a little, I will come again."
She stepped away from Kid. "Thanks for your cooperation." She said while smiling.
"Welcome." Kid said as he smiled.
"That was really cool you guys." Patty said while slamming her giraffe winter hat on her head. Liz opened one of her new magazines. "I'm surprised you two still remember that." She said.
"Hey Kid let's give them a bow." Marceline said. Kid nodded before he bowed and his sister curtsied. The two sisters clapped and Patty yelled "Encore!"
"Why would you want an encore?" Marceline asked. "They play is actually really sad."
"So it doesn't have a happy ending?" Liz asked. Marceline nodded before Kid twirled her around. "A pair of star-crossed lovers take their lives." She said dramatically. "No story is more sadder than the story of Romeo and Juliet." She placed the back of her hand to her forehead and fell in Kid's arms. "Oh how tragic!"
"Sometimes you're a little too dramatic." Kid replied with a chuckle.
The four met up with the other meisters and weapons at the basketball court. "So what did you guys get for Christmas?" Maka asked them.
"What we wanted." Kid, Liz, and Patty replied.
"All I got was a book on how to be stronger than God." Blackstar said.
"Since when was there a book like that?" Soul asked while raising an eyebrow.
"You took the words out of my mouth." Tsubaki said. "What did you get, Maka?" Maka was about to speak until her weapon said it for her. "Books 1 and 2 of the Evillious Chronicles." He said before he received a Maka Chop. "You did?" Marceline asked. "No fair Maka, but you won't believe what I have." She waved her book in her hand while Maka gasped. "I can't believe you!" She yelled while grabbing it. "I'm so jealous."
"What's so special about a book?" Blackstar asked.
Reaper Chop!
Maka Chop!
Blackstar got a chop from both girls as he lay bleeding on the concrete. "Have you heard of it, Tsubaki?" Marceline asked his weapon. Maka handed the book to her and she stared at the title. "I believe I've heard of it." She said. "But I never got a chance to read it."
"It is so good." Maka and Marceline said together. "Kid and I used to read it alot when we were little."
"Are you kidding?" Maka asked.
"She's not lying." Kid butted into the conversation. "I actually liked that book. Marci and I always read Dad's copy and now we have our own."
"But I still wonder who gave it to us." Marceline said as Tsubaki gave the book back to her. "I actually memorized most of it."
"All when you were little?" Soul asked. "That's alot of memorizing."
"They gave us a little demonstration earlier." Liz said to them. "They're really good actors."
"That's cause we got so into it." Kid said.
"Hey Blackstar would you like to read it?" Tsubaki asked her meister. Blackstar snatched the book out of Marceline's hand and stared. He then opened the book and turned to the front page, which shocked everyone. "Blackstar is reading?" Maka asked. "That's a shock."
Blackstar closed the book and gave it back to its owner. "So in the end they died?" He asked.
"Yes." Marceline replied as she placed a hand on her cheek. "It's indeed a tragic tale." Blackstar looked at the ground. "Yeah."
"Mind if I read it?" Soul asked as he held out his hand. Marceline smiled as she handed the book to him. "Give it back tomorrow okay?"
"Sure."
"And if there's any damage on it, I will kick your ass." Everyone except Kid froze. "She loves books like Maka." He whispered to Soul.
"The reaper version of Maka." Kid nodded.
"What are you guys talking about?" Maka and Marceline asked in unison, making the two freeze. "Nothing at all, dear sister/meister." Kid and Soul said.
That night, Maka was preparing dinner while Soul was still reading that book Marceline got for Christmas. "Do you like it?" Maka asked. Soul ignored her as he flipped the page.
"Soul?"
"Huh?" He looked up at his meister. "Oh sorry. I was in the zone."
"I said do you like it?" Maka repeated again. Soul shrugged as he set the book on the table. "It's starting to get good." He said. "It kinda reminds me of us in my opinion." Maka sat next to him. "Why do you say that?"
"I don't know." He said. "It's probably because your dad doesn't like us hanging out, even though we are partners." Maka looked down. "Now that you mention it yeah." She said. "Ever since we destroyed the Kishin, he's back to his usual self." Soul stood up. "I'm gonna take a walk."
"Just be back for dinner ok?"
"Sure." Soul walked out of the door and headed down the streets of Death City.
Marceline walked into her room and fell on her bed. She tugged on her night shirt as she stared at the ceiling. "Romeo and Juliet." She finally said before she thought of herself and her brother. "In my eyes, he's my Romeo, and I'm his Juliet." She turned over. "But in reality, we're just siblings who are afraid to lose one another." Her yellow eyes moved from the wall to the window, where she stared at the sky.
"Romeo Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo." She muttered before falling asleep.
Kid came into her room a while later, to see her asleep on top of the bed. He sat on the edge and held her hand lightly. He heard her muttering something and he strained to hear.
"You are my Romeo and I am your Juliet."
He smiled and quietly chuckled. "You are my Juliet and I am your Romeo." He tucked her into bed and kissed her cheek. He walked out of the room and closed the door behind him.
Me: Hi guys. I'm sorry but I just LOVE Romeo and Juliet, no matter how sad it is. You know, if there is gonna be a movie about it(Of course which there probably is), it should probably star Leonardo DiCaprio(Or however you spell his name) and that girl who played Rose in Titanic to be Romeo and Juliet. You guys agree with me right? That would be a great movie. Stay tuned.
