After what seemed like an eternity, they had finally arrived at the cabin. The boys grabbed the luggage while Calleigh, Alexx, and Jamie grabbed the food. Lauren went to meet the cabin owner to grab the keys.
"This place looks pretty nice. I'm not going to lie, I was a little worried we'd be staying in actual tents," Frank said grabbing his suitcase from the back of Lauren's SUV.
"Oh come on, Frankie. I wouldn't do that to you," Lauren said coming back with the keys. "My dad and I come here every year. The people who own these places are like family now. The boat that's by the dock is from my dad's shop." Lauren reached into her SUV, and grabbed the pizzas, breadsticks, and salad. "Come on, let's head inside and get some dinner. I'm starving."
Dinner was done, and the groceries were put away. It was time to make the sleeping arrangements. Speed was with Lauren so he got the master bedroom. Alexx and Henry took the second bedroom with the king size bed. Calleigh, Eric, Jamie, Bryan, and Frank took the third bedroom that consisted of two twin bunk beds and one regular twin bed. Horatio volunteered to take the living room where there was a pullout sofa.
Speed walked up behind Lauren, and saw she was holding a forensics book. "Hey, what are you doing? I thought we said no school work while we're here," Speed said hugging her from behind. He rested his chin on her shoulder.
Lauren tossed the book on the bed, and turned around to face him. "It's not homework. My fall semester is over. I don't have any homework. It's just a little light reading," she said wrapping her arms around his neck. He leaned in for a kiss. Lauren didn't object so he took the kiss a little deeper.
A knock came from behind the bedroom door. It was Eric. "Hey you two love birds lets go. It's bonfire time. We got the stuff for the s'mores ready."
Speed and Lauren looked at each other and laughed. "I guess we should get going then," Lauren said.
"Yeah. I guess so," Speed said letting go of her. He watched her for a moment as she grabbed her Michigan State hoodie and put her book back in her bag. Speed smiled. He loved her, and needed to tell her now.
"Let's go eat some s'mores!"
"Lauren, wait a minute," Speed said gently grabbing her arm. Lauren stopped and faced him. He simply smiled and said, "I love you."
Lauren's eyes sparkled with excitement. She said, "I love you." The two shared a private moment together before heading out to the bonfire. Speed and Lauren's relationship was becoming serious.
The bonfire roared in the night as everyone gather around it. Alexx and Henry were helping Jamie and Bryan with their roasted marshmallows. They had several stacked on one skewer. Probably more than they should have. Calleigh and Eric were sitting next to each one another enjoying each other's company and roasting marshmallows too. Horatio sat in his chair and watched the fire. This was the first vacation he had had in years. He wouldn't admit it, but he needed this. Speed and Lauren were assembling their first s'smore of the night, and Frank was roasting a marshmallow.
"Lauren, this place is so beautiful and cozy. I can't wait to see it during the day," Calleigh said as Eric helped her remove the marshmallow off of the skewer, and sandwiched it in between the chocolate and graham cracker.
"I know. I love it here. The people who own this place have become like family. We get first dibs on booking it too which is amazing," Lauren said taking a bite of her s'more.
"I'm not sure if I've thanked you or not, but thank you from the bottom of mine and my families heart," Alexx said handing Jamie another s'more.
"It's the least I could do. You guys work so hard. You deserve all of this."
Lauren looked at Horatio. He was watching Frank's marshmallow. Flames were beginning to appear on his marshmallow. Horatio started laughing. "Hey Frank, you might want to check on your marshmallow."
Frank yanked the skewer out of the fire, and sure enough the entire marshmallow was engulfed in flames. "Oh crap," he said trying to blow the fire out. The entire group erupted into a fit of laughter. "I meant for that to happen. I like crispy marshmallows."
"Yeah okay, Frank," Calleigh joked.
Frank carefully removed the marshmallow from the skewer and popped it in his mouth. He made a face and said, "Mmm burnt marshmallow. My favorite."
The bonfire was down to just the embers. Jamie and Bryan had fallen asleep on their parents' laps. Everyone agreed it was time to head in and get some rest. Speed grabbed the big bucket of water and dumped it on the fire putting it out completely.
"I'm going to sleep real good tonight," Frank said making his way into the cabin. They were all going to sleep well tonight.
