Donna Allen was practical, resourceful, and an adaptable pragmatist, with an excellent capacity for understanding how anything works, displaying logical, detached analysis.
That was why no one thought she'd be a good actress.
But her determination and her perhaps selfish desire to show her brother up and make her parents proud drove her to extremes. She and Jill met in the park every afternoon where they practiced, and memorized and rehearsed.
"The auditions are next week," Jill reminded her. "You're good, but you can do better."
Donna also enjoyed her new friendship with Jill, discovering that they had more common ground than they had thought.
These were the good times for Donna Allen as she waited in excitement for Saturday to come. As for her brother….
James and Donna barely acted like they knew each other, much less were twins. It had been like this for year after year with no noticeable change, despite all the times Iris and Barry had tried to bring them together through family activities. So James hardly noticed the change in Donna's temperament.
Therefore: James was surprised on Saturday morning when Barry escorted his beaming daughter to the car.
And I'm sorry to say that Donna got great enjoyment out of the look on his face.
~And I'm out of tune~
Donna settled happily in the seat across from her father at the fast food place and took a healthy bite out of a double cheeseburger.
(Fast metabolism)
"So, you excited for this play?" Barry asked.
Donna nodded, chewing. She swallowed. "Yes, I am. Will you and Mom come see it if I get in?"
"Of course we will. Your mom loves the theater, and I love the theater if any of my kids are in it," Barry assured her. "You're going to be amazing, honey."
"Thanks, Dad. So, Jill and I were thinking about possibly going to the movies on Monday, you know they have this new science fiction film she wants to see, and I just wanted to know-"
"You can go if you get your homework done," Barry said. He froze as he spotted something behind her shoulder. "Donna, I want you to concentrate on me, okay? Don't look around."
Donna stared at her father. "Okay, Dad, why?"
"Because, a booth behind you, is a guy the Justice League has been keeping an eye on," Barry said quietly.
"Who?" Donna whispered.
"Albert Desmond. He's a chemist who suffers from a multiple personality disorder with one law-abiding personality and another criminally inclined one," Barry explained. "Under his darker personality he applied his knowledge of chemistry to create the identity of Mister Element, creating elemental weapons such as bulletproof silicon to shield his cars, and discovered a new element, Elemento, a magnetic light."
"So he's….really dangerous," Donna said nervously.
"You could say that."
"Dad, I vote we leave," she said.
Barry reached out and clasped her hand. "Not right now. We have to wait and see what he's doing. Whether he's good right now, or bad. I thought we had him contained." He carefully kept his gaze on his daughter. "So, what's this movie about?"
Thanks so much for reading! Please leave a review to let me know what you think, I really appreciate it. As always, I'll see you in the next chapter!
