Chapter 6 -It's Not Over

The next day brought rays of sunshine flowing in through the windows, and a very hungover Bo. She had went to bed with a bottle of wine as the only thing to comfort her. She'd almost finished off the entire bottle. The alcohol was taking its toll on her right now. As soon as her eyes opened, she could feel the headache and wave of nausea. She hopped out of bed and ran to the bathroom, almost not making it to the toilet before she threw up. After vomiting a few times, she wiped her mouth and sat against the bathtub. Instantly remembering why she'd drank so much last night, and started crying. "I can't do this with you." Lauren's words rang in her head. The night started out so great, and things went well for the rest of the night. Until they got to her car. Maybe it was the fight she almost got in at the bar that made Lauren want to leave. But that didn't explain why it felt like Lauren never wanted to see her again. Maybe she didn't want to, what if she never saw her again? Bo rested her elbow on the edge of the bathtub and put her head in her hand, continuing to sob.

Her endless bawling must have drawn Kenzi's attention from wherever in the house she was. Bo heard footsteps approaching her bathroom door. "Bo?" Kenzi's called out. She twisted the door knob and pushed the door open to reveal a sobbing Bo sitting on the floor. Her mascara running and clothes from last night, wrinkled like shed slept in them. "Hey, what's wrong?" Kenzi asked gently going over to Bo and holding her close. She knew that something had caused her best friend so feel so miserable. And if it had anything to do with a certain blonde who's name started with an L, she may have to go and kick some ass.

Bo leaned her head against Kenzi's shoulder and continued to cry. "It's..." Bo paused to think over her answer. She knew how defensive her best friend was of her, and if she said it was because of Lauren, Kenzi's may go hunt her down and kick her ass...literally. That was not something Bo wanted to happen. "It's nothing." Bo tried.

Kenzi, though, wasn't having it. "Bo, I know something's the matter. You don't normally wake up and go into the bathroom to cry. And I saw the almost empty bottle of wine by your bed. You don't drink that much wine by yourself, alone in your room, unless something's really wrong. Now tell me."

Kenzi was right. There was something wrong. She had to tell the girl. She was her best friend, she could tell her anything. Right? "Um..." Bo started. Her tears slowing down now. "Kenzi before I say anything. I need you to promise that you aren't going to go find and hurt anybody." Kenzi stayed quiet for a moment, not wanting to make promises she couldn't keep. "Kenzi!" Bo shouted.

"Okay!" The younger girl threw her hands up and finally agreed. "Okay, I promise I won't kick anyone's ass. I can't say I won't curse anyone out though."

Bo just sighed. "It's...Lauren."

"I KNEW IT! I SWEAR BO THE NEXT TIME I SEE HER I'M-" Kenzi's rant was cut short.

"Not gonna do anything!" Bo finished for her, which earned a scowl from her friend. "You promised you wouldn't do anything Kenz. I don't want you to hurt her, physically or emotionally. Just leave her alone, and let me deal with it."

Kenzi sighed this time, "I'm sorry. So what happened?"

Bo told Kenzi everything that happened the previous night. About how well their date was going, how she swears Lauren was flirting with her, and how she caught the blonde starting at her chest more than once at the restaurant. She told her how she almost got into a fight over Lauren with some guy at the bar. Finally, she told Kenzi how Lauren had left her in the car, and what she said before storming away.

"Oh...I'm- I'm sorry Bo." Kenzi didn't really know what else to say. She knew what she wanted to say, and it includes some very hurtful things and a couple of choice words to call the blonde, but Bo would kick her ass herself if she said any of those things. So instead she just hugged Bo tighter, and said that it was gonna be okay.

"No, it won't Kenz. I just- I don't get it. I thought she liked me, I thought she felt the way I felt about her. It certainly didn't feel like she hated me during our date...but it does now. Worst of all is, I don't know if I'm ever gonna see her again."

"Well, I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but maybe she had a reason for saying that. Maybe she's trying to keep you at a distance, because she has a reason too."

Bo pulled away and cocked her head at her friend. "What? I've had dating experiences ya know!" Kenzi defenses herself. She opted to just tell Bo the whole story. "When I was 15, there was this boy at school that I really liked. We became friends, and he started flirting with me and hugging me more and stuff. Then he told me he liked me, and I didn't respond. He drove me home that night, and was about to kiss me when I stopped him."

"Why did you stop him if you liked him?" Bo asked.

"Because I knew that if we started dating, that eventually he would be in my house, or inadvertently meet my family even though I would never introduce anyone to them. I hated my family. They were always arguing with each other and saying the stupidest things. Sometimes they threw things or hit each other, or me. I didn't want anyone to see that. That's why I had like no friends in school."

"What happened with you and him?"

Kenzi continued her story. "I told him that I didn't like him that way. I said that we could still see and talk to each other in school, but that I was usually too busy to do anything else. We slowly drifted apart after that."

"Oh, Kenz, I'm so sorry." Bo tried to comfort her friend, seeing the forlorn look on Kenzi's face.

"It's okay. It was a while ago. But what I'm trying to tell you, is that maybe Lauren has something like that. There's something that she doesn't want you to see or know, because she doesn't want you to be negatively affected by it. So she's pushing you away."

Bo just stared at her friend for a minute. "Wow Kenzi, who knew you were so deep and sensitive?" She joked.

Kenzi playfully punched her in the arm. "Shut up! Tell anyone I said this and I'll shove my shiny new boots up your ass. Got it?"

Bo just laughed and nodded. She was definitely feeling better with her best friend by her side. "Thanks Kenzi."

"No problemo BoBo."

"But how do you know that's the case, and she just doesn't want to be with me?" Bo asked, feeling a sudden pang of sadness.

"I've seen the way she looks at you Bo. Behind that tough, criminal exterior, is a woman who is crazy for you. You know I'm good at reading people, and I'm never wrong." Kenzi reminded her.

"Well Kenzi you better be right... because I think I'm falling for her." Bo said quickly, evoking a dramatic gasp from her best friend.

"Oh man. Now you're in some real shit. Well, unfortunately the Kenz has run out of advice for ya. You're on your own kiddo." Kenzi said as she stood up, Bo following close behind. "But I wish you the best of luck, and will help however I can. Now come on, let's go get some tequila shots-" she looked towards the wine bottle again. "Erm, well maybe just some water for you." She grabbed Bo's arm and pulled her down stairs.

Lauren didn't know what to think of her situation. Her past, the reason she has so much trouble being around her present, is here again. The one woman who fucked up her life so much, is back and there's no doubt that trouble has followed her. Lauren vowed the day Christie went to jail, that she didn't want anything to do with her ever again. Yet here she is, out of prison and a free woman. One who could torment Lauren and make her feel even worse about herself. Then there was Bo. Beautiful, sweet, caring Bo. The one who against her will, she found herself having strong feeling towards. But after last night, who knows if Bo will ever want to see her again. In the heat f the moment, Lauren made it quite clear she didn't want to progress things further. She didn't meant to yell at Bo like that, it's just that her thoughts were like a monsoon in her mind, and she couldn't focus on anything else at the moment.

So here she was, her ex-girlfriend back in town and pursuing her- oh and also blackmailing her- and the girl she currently wanted, keeping a distance. Sometimes her life was just so screwed up that she didn't know what to do with it. She knew that she needed to talk to Christie, and tell her to stay away. But she wasn't ready to do that right now, she still needed time to process things. She also needed to try to talk to Bo, that is if she will answer my calls. It was time that Lauren admitted to herself that she wanted to get closer to the brunette. She wanted to give love another try. Hopefully this time it wouldn't end it hate, and spite. Hopefully, it wouldn't end at all.

Lauren shook her head. Not knowing what else to do right now, Lauren decides to do what she did best. She went upstairs and grabbed a black hoodie and changed into black skinny jeans. She grabbed a bag and some gloves and headed out to her car. There was a rich family who lived a couple houses down. They had wads of cash stashed in certain places of their home, and the mother had an abundance of beautiful, antique jewelry. There was no doubt that each piece was worth thousands alone. Luckily, the family was gone. She didn't know what time they could be back so she had to be quick. She parked the at across the street and ran around to the back door that is more often than not, unlocked. To her luck it was this time as well. She opened the door and crept into the house. The family had no dogs but did have a pesky cat and a parakeet as well. She went up the stairs to find the cash and jewelry and put it all in the bag. She decided to snag a few candy bars as well just for the hell of it. As she was making her way down the stairs, she heard a car pulling into the driveway.

"SHIT!"

Lauren knew she had to get out of there quickly. If she got caught, the family would no doubt call the police. Her mind briefly drifted back tithe only time she'd been caught. That was the night she met Bo, who for some reason, let her go. She smiled at the memory but was quickly brought back to the present as she heard the door knob turned. Realizing she was still in the middle of the stairs, Lauren ran up them. She had to did a window to jump from. That was her only option. Well, that or get caught.

She went into one of the rooms with a window overlooking a rooftop. She decided that jumping from there would be better than going straight to the ground. She opened it all the way an threw the bag out, then tried to get her body through. This was one of the times where Lauren thanked the gods that she was thin.

She got the top half of her body though the window when she heard footsteps approaching the door of the room she was in. "Shit, move Lauren!" She chided herself. Moving as quickly as she could, she got her whole body through the window, and landed on the roof. Unfortunately, she was still a good height from the ground. She threw the bag on the ground and as soon as she heard voices enter the room, she jumped to the ground. Upon landing on the grass, she heard a crack. That can't be good.

She was having trouble breathing and knew that she'd broken a rib or two from the fall. She tried as hard as she could to get up, and after much struggle, made it to her feet. She walked as fast as she could back to her house. Her ribs were causing more pain and she knew that this was something that couldn't be home remedied. She needed to go to the hospital. She needed to try and get there on her own though.

Lauren began the walk back to her place. All was going well until she neared her house, a familiar face was a few feet in front of her, and noticed her limping. Unfortunately for Lauren, this was not a face she wanted to see right now. Christie saw Lauren holding her side and having trouble walking. She went over to her former flame to see what was up.

"Lauren? What's wrong are you okay?"

Oh, now she wants to care about me. Lauren thought. "Y-yeah, I'm fine...I just, I tripped." She tried not to struggle with her words even though it hurt like hell every time she took a breath.

"You don't look fine. You can't even walk right, and it sounds like you're having trouble breathing." Damn Christie and her ability to sense when something was wrong. Why couldn't she just say okay and walk away? "Lauren look, I still care about you okay? So just tell me what's wrong. What happened, and what's in that bag? You didn't kill someone did you?"

Lauren sighed in defeat. Christie would keep pestering her if she didn't tell her. "No I didn't kill anyone Chris, it's money and jewelry. I...robbed the house down there and I had to jump from the window not to be caught, and I landed the wrong way and broke-" she winces as she moved her fingers up to feel her ribs. "2 ribs."

"Jesus Lauren, why the hell are you walking around like it's nothing?Come on we need to get you to the hospital." Christie out Lauren's arm over her shoulder and helped the blonde to her car and the two took of to the hospital. Once there they walked up to the woman at the desk and told her that Lauren had broken two ribs and needed to see a doctor now. The woman told them that a doctor would be with them momentarily, and they were stuck in the waiting room.

"Christie, I appreciate the help but I can take it from here." Lauren tried to politely tell her to go away.

"No way, I want to make sure you get looked at and taken care of."

"I will, but I don't need your help anymore." Lauren rebutted.

"Look Lauren I know that the way I treated you when we were dating was pretty shitty. I made you into a fucking kleptomaniac."

"Now that's the pot calling the kettle black." Lauren spoke.

Christie sighed hard. "Anyway, I still care about you. I loved you, Lauren. It's true whether you choose to believe it or not."

Lauren snorted, "yeah, cuz setting my house on fire really says that you love me."

"What?" Christie gave her a puzzled look.

"You set my house on fire the day after I broke up with you. You couldn't handle the rejection and took your anger out on my home. Don't pretend you don't know what I'm talking about!" Lauren demanded.

"I don't! Lauren, I swear. Yeah, I was angry and upset but I would never do something like that!" Christie defended herself.

"Then who did Christie?" Lauren shouted. But quickly lowered her voice when people looked at her. "Who else would have a reason to do that?"

"I don't know Lauren!" She said. But she did know. At least she had an idea of who could've done it. The night that Lauren broke up with her, Christie had gone to her best friend's house to cry her eyes out to someone she knew would listen. Her friend, Alex had a pretty extensive criminal history, having been in and out of prison numerous time for various offenses. Her friend had a quick temper, but was all ears and nothing comforting and caring when Christie had turned up at her door sobbing. She wasn't entirely sure if it was Alex who did it, but she knew that the girl would probably do something like that to defend her best friend. "It could've been anyone." She finished.

Lauren didn't believe that she didn't do it, she wasn't having any of her ex's bullshit today. "Fuck you Christie. You had every reason to do it, why would I believe that you didn't?"

"I don't know Lauren, maybe it's better if you think I did. I know I went of on you that night, and I don't deserve girlfriend of the year award, but I would never do something that might hurt you. I know you park your at in the garage a lot. If I were to do something like that I wouldn't know if you were home or not. I wouldn't risk it. No matter how mad I was, I would never do anything like that."

"That's just the thing though, you did hurt me. Not physically, but mentally and emotionally. You ruined me for anyone else Chris. Do you know that I haven't dated anyone since?"

"Well, that's...nice to hear." Christie said, and noticed Lauren's scowl. "I'm not gonna lie Lauren. I do still have feelings for you. I may not be in love with you anymore but, these feelings haven't gone away. I still care for you and I do still love you. Not as much as I used to, but that's the reason why I came here. I wanted to see you again...even if the feeling isn't mutual."

Lauren didn't know what to say next. She was actually starting to believe the woman. If there was one thing Lauren knew about people, it's that their eyes always told their true feelings. The eyes truly were the windows to the soul. As right now, the green pools staring back at her were only showing compassion and honesty. It was over whelming for her, she had never seen such emotion in someone's eyes before. Without thinking, Lauren leaned forward slightly and captured Christie's lips for a brief kiss. She pulled away a few seconds later, to find the redhead's eyes still closed.

"I'm sorry." Lauren whispered.

"It's okay." Christie stated in reply.

"No I mean I'm sorry, there's someone else. I shouldn't have done that." But there wasn't really anyone else. She didn't have a girlfriend. She wasn't seeing anyone right now. After yesterday, she wouldn't be surprised if she never saw Bo again. So what's stopping her from kissing her ex silly right now? Was it her own lingering anger towards the woman? Her fury at past actions that she had honestly forgotten about up until a couple minutes ago? Or maybe it was her rational mind telling her that it was a bad idea to get back with her ex, the one who did so much damage, because there was someone else; someone so beautiful and sweet, and who's been nothing but kind to her. Someone who she had rudely yelled at and turned away less than 24 hours ago. Lauren felt a wave of nausea and guilt come over her at the thought of what she did to Bo.

"Hey, you okay?" Christie snapped out of her own thoughts and feelings and noticed Lauren go pale, looking like she was going to be sick. "You look like you're gonna throw up."

"No, no I'm okay. It's just, the pain from my ribs." Which wasn't a complete lie. It had been at least a good 20 minutes they had been waiting for a doctor to show up. "It really hurts now."

Christie nodded and stood up looking straight at the woman at the desk. "Hey! Are we going to get a doctor over here or what? This woman is in pain and needs one now!" She yelled.

The woman rolled her eyes and called for a doctor. A few minutes later, a tall man with slicked back dark hair appeared before them. "Hello ladies, my name is Dr. Adams. Lauren, if you'll come with me, I'm gonna take you for some X-rays."

"What about me?" Christie asked the man.

"Well, we can't have you in the X-ray room, but once we get Lauren all set up in a room, I'll come get you."

"Wait, in a room? No, no, I- I can't stay overnight here. There are things I need to do and-" Lauren started before being cutoff by Dr. Adams.

"Unfortunately Lauren, broken bones don't heal overnight. You'll need to stay here at least a day, for us to make sure the healing process starts correctly. Especially with a broken rib, we'll need to make sure that everything in the chest cavity is alright and working right. Being so close to the lungs puts you at risk of breathing troubles and moving the wrong way can actually hurt or puncture a lung. That's the last thing you'd want." Lauren huffed out a breath and reluctantly agreed. Her talks with Bo and Christie would just have to wait. If only she hadn't gone into that house, she wouldn't have had to jump from a window to save her ass. If only she hadn't yelled at Bo, maybe she could be cuddled in her arms right now instead of clutching her ribs in pain, at the hospital with her ex-girlfriend.

Next chapter will be longer.
