Hi again! It's Heart of Rubies here! Thank you to the guests who reviewed and gave me kit names. I now bestow on you my greatest gratitude :) Oh yeah, I don't own warriors (much to my regret)
The wind brushed through my pelt, carrying the scent of no prey anywhere. It was freezing cold and my paws were starting to feel numb. I stood in the cold trying to catch at least the smell of one prey. I had to make up my assessment from last time, since the Windclan problem interrupted it. I finally heard a rustle behind me, and the faint scent of mouse came. I crouched down and crept towards the dead tree. I could see the mouse clearly now, it was about average size, enough to feed about a cat. I leapt towards it and caught the mouse in one try. I bit its neck until I started tasting the blood. My stomach started growling and I hesitated to take a bite, but it was better to just leave the mouse to someone who really needed it. I sighed, buried the mouse, and left off to search for other prey.
"This is so boring…" I grumbled under my breath. Well it is a little fun from my side Voi chuckled. I rolled my eyes, Voi would never change. As I looked up to the sky I saw the red sun set into the mountains, remembering the prophecy. It had to mean something and they said I had to hurry before my friend regained his memory. Voi's outline was clearer and his flaming pelt stood out from the white snow. The prophecy mentioned something about red grass, and there was no grass in leaf-bare so I was mostly safe. I would have to wait until green-leaf to start worrying. PREY! Voi yelled, shaking me from m thoughts. My ears pricked up, I heard a soft crunch of snow. My body fell to the floor immediately. I slipped through the snow, making no noise. I looked across the clearing only to a huge pigeon. I was HUGE. I licked my lips, and then winced.
"This should go to Squirrelflight; she needs all the food she can get." I mumbled. I looked at the pigeon. It didn't look like it could fly at all, but you should never underestimate a pigeon. Frostpaw got attacked by one a quarter moon ago about, it was hilarious. Talking about Frostpaw, he fit in way better than I thought he would. The whole clan loved him and he was stronger than me in many ways even though he had two moons less of training then me (I'm the strongest of all the clan originated apprentices - Or so you think - Be quiet Voi). He was obviously going to be an apprentice at the same time as me, or even maybe before.
The pigeon started flapping its wings and I panicked, I couldn't let this prey just go! I lunged and dug my claws in its feathers. The pigeon squirmed and I started to lose my grip. I dragged it towards me and bit its neck. It was only out of pure luck that I caught it. All my training for about 5 moons had disappeared and turned into panic when it came to prey at this time. I sighed, buried my prey, and turned back into the forest.
I walked into the camp at sundown with everyone whispering and looking very excited. I dropped all my prey except the fat pigeon, and carried it towards the nursery. I crowd was forming around the door of the den, and I couldn't find any way in.
"Um, Cloudtail, could you move a little to the side please?" I asked him, but he didn't move. Why the commotion? Then it dawned on me. Well actually I saw Bramblestar running around, so I guessed that Squirrelflight was having her kits. I crouched down to the floor and saw Squirrelflight licking three healthy kits. I smiled at the love in her eyes, but Jayfeather looked uneasy. I remembered my mother telling me that Squirrelflight had pretended that she was Jayfeather, Lionblaze, and their dead sister, Holyleaf's mother when Leafpool was their true mother. I smiled in sympathy and crawled underneath all the cats. I secured my grip on the pigeon and made it to Squirrelflight.
"Hesh a pwigsheon four shou" I said, my mouth full of feathers. Squirrelflight laughed. I dropped the pigeon in front of her and left the nursery, most of the cats had left the door. I stretched and went towards Frostpaw, Stormpaw, and Eaglepaw. I settled down next to them. They looked at me expectantly.
"What?" I groaned
"What what?" Frostpaw responded. Stormpaw rolled her eyes
"How did your assessment go?" She asked. I looked at her closely. There was no way she would want to know that. She wanted to know about the kits.
"Fine, but I have a feeling you aren't interested in that." Stormpaw looked uneasy, "The kits are fine, three healthy kits, their names are going to be chosen anytime soon." All three apprentices sighed in relief. Bramblestar walked out of the nursery looking all happy and proud. Then he shook his head then jumped up on the highledge.
"All cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here under the highledge." He yowled. Cat from all the corners of camp gathered around. "As you know Squirrelflight just had our three kits, Shadekit, Tigerkit, and Starkit." Everyone started murmuring about the name Starkit, it wasn't normal. I swallowed, the name gave me chills. Bramblestar looked unbothered by the commotion. He raised his tail for silence. "As you know, I have had no replacement deputy for a while, and since Squirrelflight cannot do much for the clan at the moment, I shall name the new deputy." Lionblaze. "With Squirrelflights approval, I now say that the new deputy shall be Lionblaze." The clan cheered for him as he stepped up in front of the crowd.
"I will gladly serve the clan while Squirrelflight is off duty." Everyone gathered around him and cheered his name. It was obvious that he was the perfect replacement. I turned around and headed for the nursery while everyone else was talking to Lionblaze. I crouched down and slithered into the little den. Squirrelflight looked lovingly at her three beautiful kits. I sat down next to her and looked at the little warriors sleeping. Then one, a black kit with white dapples, squealed as Squirrelflight licked her.
"That's Starkit, the striped one here is Tigerkit, and that grey one is Shadekit."Squirrelflight whispered. The kits all started to wake up and search for milk. I smiled, said my goodbyes, and then backed out of the nursery. I walked out and searched for the other apprentices.
"Rubypaw!" someone yowled behind me, I turned my head to look at Lionblaze (the guy who called my name) "Can you go on the dusk patrol?" I nodded and went to sit with the others at the camp entrance. I looked at my clan mates; they all seemed in a good mood. Berrynose was talking to Icecloud and Seedpaw, Birchfall and Spiderleg just stood there. As I arrived near them, they all stood up, and without complaint or any words we left into the woods.
The sun rose with the sounds of Greenleaf that morning. We heard birds calling out at dawn. I rushed out of camp and looked at the melting snow.
"Green-leaf is arriving!" I called out in joy. Then horror swept over me. Memories were on their way.
Chapter 6 is done! Please review what you think and if you don't like something tell me how to improve! Thanks again! Hearts of Rubies out! :)
