Betty always wanted to be a River Vixen, she wanted to follow in Polly's footsteps when Archie inevitably became the star football player she would be his personal cheerleader just like Polly was with Jason. But that didn't seem to be her destined future as Cheryl refused to let her join, always stating she wasn't thin enough and even her sisters relationship with the vindictive redhead's brother couldn't sway Betty a place on the squad. Not even a measly try out.
Until Veronica Lodge swept into town and demanded that if she were to try out Betty would be to, because they are a package deal. Betty tried not to think about the butterflies fluttering inside her when Ronnie said that, thinking of how they come together, as well as the fact she was finally getting her chance to maybe be the cheerleader she always wanted to be. The spark of mischief in The spark of mischief in the brunette's eyes surprised and massively excited Betty, because none of the people she had grown up with could surprise her anymore – save for the miraculous body transformation Archie went through over the summer she could always tell what was going through their heads; Jughead would be thinking of food or his family life, Archie would be thinking of sports or thinking up a new song due to his latest hobby, Kevin's thoughts would be full of Moose Mason and how much he liked him and wanted him. But with Veronica she had no idea of the thoughts flowing through her mind when she looked at her, especially with that mysterious glint in her eyes.
But that was exciting, because Veronica knew so much more than the small town of Riverdale, she came from New York and she had so many more experiences than anyone Betty has ever met, even more so than Chic her brother that escaped Riverdale and their parents as soon as he could. And having no idea of the thoughts in her head exhilarated her more than she could imagine in her small town. She apparently also knew how to cheer apparently, or she was blatantly flirting when she offered to show her 'some moves' – both prospects exciting Betty more than they potentially should.
A distinct feeling of disappointment filled Betty's heart when it was simply Veronica giving her some tips on cheering, having hoped in the back of her head that the girl wanted to show her more than that. But she easily caught on with the steps being taught, impressing both herself and the brunette until it became closer to the time that Alice would be returning from work, Betty knowing she has to protect the girl she is most definitely crushing on from the wrath of her crazy mother, so she musters up a pretty believable excuse for why Veronica has to leave, citing "Mom goes bezerk if she hasn't had plenty time to make sure the house is immaculate before a guest comes round, you know how Mom's can be right…" with an attempt at a light laugh to alleviate the lie into being believed easier. But Veronica knew better, her own mother having told her all about Alice Cooper and the way she raised her children to be perfect robotic monsters of the life she tried to pretend she had growing up. But she also knew better, so she laughed along pretending she agreed and believed in the story her beautiful blonde told her, she allowed herself to become part of the charade – promising to herself and to Betty internally that she would get her away from her mother and into a loving and caring environment.
Veronica returned to the Pembrooke, to her mother, to Smithers… to her bedroom to plan the great escape , or "Betty Cooper's great escape, because life is fun when it isn't perfect". She plotted and planned behind the closed doors of her bedroom, and she gripped the pearl necklace that sat on her throat since her father gave her them, because every plan she thought up was an impossible fantasy of heroes and her being a shining knight. None of which were the true story, but she gripped her pearls wishing for her father to send her some sort of telepathic solution to all of her problems – but mainly Betty being around her family, and Betty figuring out that her soul-mate is right in front of her, if she would just look past the ginger stereotype blocking her mind. But that wouldn't happen, her father was in prison, Veronica was all alone in her planning, and for the first time ever she wasn't sure about achieving something; even though she knew it was all for Betty, and that even if she was not aware, the blonde was counting on her. Which meant pulling out the big guns seduction techniques.
