Chapter 6
They return and all lights are off. Not even the night light down the hallway. "Dad?" Tony asks. "Carrie?" They walk to Kelly's room, she's not there. "Damn it!"
"Tony." Ziva whispers with a smile. Tony turns around to find the three of them lying on top of the covers in Tony and Ziva's room. Kelly sprawled in the middle, with Anthony Sr., and Carrie asleep on each side of Kelly.
Tony sighs. "I don't want to disturb them."
"Me neither." Ziva leans against Tony, and he brings her in. Ziva looks up at him. "How about," she climbs her hand up his chest. "we stay at that really nice hotel." Ziva says with a smile.
"But you have work tomorrow."
Ziva shakes her head. One our way home Gibbs texted me. Yes, a text message from Gibbs." Ziva chuckles. "And he told me to enjoy one last day. I have been given tomorrow off."
"But what about Dad and Carrie? We can't just not show up?"
"Leave them a note. I will leave some cash as a thanks, and if they want to get something for breakfast. They know where everything for Kelly is. I will give her a bath when we get back. Plus," Ziva looks at her watch. "It is only 9:15. There is plenty time yet. We will only need our swimming suits and pajamas. Easily fits in our gym bags. Come on. It will be our little celebration of engagement." Ziva smiles.
"OK." Tony smiles. "Let's do it."
They quietly gather their overnight outfits, and their swimming suits. Tony writes a letter, and Ziva leaves $30. "Ready?" Ziva asks.
"Yep." Tony smiles. "Let's go."
"Hi." The clerk says with a smile. "Welcome to The Melrose Georgetown. Do you have a reservation?"
"Hi." Tony answers back with a smile. "I do not have any reservations. What are your available rooms?"
"Let me check." The clerk walks to the computer, gives a few clicks, presses a few buttons. "It looks like we have a couple of the Deluxe King Rooms, and an Executive King Suite."
"How about the Deluxe King Room." Tony answers.
"Ok." The clerk works at her computer. "Would you like to upgrade to the DC Vacation Package?"
Tony hesitates for a brief moment. "Yes." He answers.
"Tony." Ziva says.
"Hey. I'm paying, I choose." Tony places a light passionate kiss upon Ziva's lips.
"OK." The clerk pulls out a two keys. "Because you choose the DC Vacation Package, you've been upgraded to the Executive King Suite, you get breakfast for two, a walking map of DC, and Seasonal Fruit Platter with water."
"Oh my." Ziva gasps. "Tony, this is just an engagement celebration."
"Oh! Happy engagement!" The clerk says. "Because it is your celebration of engagement, you get a 5% discount! May not sound like a whole lot, but hey you're saving!"
Tony can't help but smile at Ziva.
"What?" Ziva asks.
"I love you."
Ziva pauses and smiles. "I love you too."
"Well, happy engagement." The clerk says. "You're in room 314. You'll be on the third floor, and all the way down the hallway, and on your right. The pool room will be open until 11:30, and breakfast is from 6:00 to 10:30."
"Must we pay today?" Tony asks.
"No. But I do need a credit card for the hold. Just in case you decide to skip out on check-out, which by the way is from 11:30 to 12:30."
"Well," Tony says pulling out his wallet. "What is the total?"
"Your total comes to $238.22."
Ziva gulps and Tony chuckles at her. "That's a lot just for an engagement." Ziva says.
"Anything for the woman I love." Tony smiles. Tony grabs a credit card. "This one will work."
"Thank you." The clerk takes the card and types on her computer. "Here you go." She says handing back the credit card. "Remember, you can pay in cash when it comes to check out. Now enjoy your night."
"Thank you." Tony says.
"Yes, thank you." Ziva adds as they head for the elevators. They are silent until they step into the elevator. "Two-hundred and FORTY dollars Tony!?" Ziva asks with a tad bit of anger. "Are you out of your mind? How do you expect to pay for the things we need?" They get out of the elevator. Tony does not remove his smile. He looks at her while walking down the hallway. "Are you going to answer me?"
"Babe," They stop in front of their door, and Tony puts his hands on her shoulders, and he can feel her relax. "You are the woman I want. I want you for the rest of our lives, the rest of eternity. Every big step of our relationship, I want us to remember our celebration." Tony brings her in for a hug. "Plus, anything for my birthday girl." Tony opens their door. "Happy birthday babe." He says with a smile.
"It…it is beautiful." Ziva sheds a tear and turns around. "Tony." She says hugging. "Never in a million years will I ever be able to explain how happy you make me. I am happier a child with homework."
Tony knew that it was to be a child without homework, but he did not care. All he cared for was to spend the rest of their lives together no matter the trouble they come across. "Why don't we get changed into our bathing suits, and head to the pool. Maybe sit in the sauna a bit." Tony suggests.
"I like that." Ziva says. Ziva grabs her bag and walks into the bathroom. "Are you coming?"
Tony says nothing and follows with a great big grin.
"Wow." Tony says coming out of the bathroom 10 minutes later, fixing his hair. "Didn't see that coming." He says with even a bigger grin.
"Well," Ziva follows, doing the same. "There was a lot of lost time."
Tony lifts an eyebrow. "Oh?"
Ziva gives him a devious smile. "Let's go."
Tony and Ziva walk down to the pool. Tony stops in his tracks. "Zi."
"What?" She asks looking up at him.
Tony just looks around the pool area. "Never mind."
They walk in, and head straight for the pool. "Tony, look at that." Ziva says pointing to the big waterfall on the back end of the pool. "We should go there for a bit."
"Sounds good to me." Tony smiles, and escorts Ziva over. They come up to a narrow path way. "After you, my lady." Tony smirks.
"Why thank you." Ziva smiles back. "Wow." She says as they are now right behind the waterfall. She sticks out her hand to feel the water. She looks up at Tony. "Smooth." And smiles. Ziva looks back at the water, and takes a dive in. Seconds later, she breaks the surface and turns to Tony. "Coming?"
Tony smiles at her as she takes a lap around the pool. Something then catches his eye, but as soon as he looks, it's gone. He looks back for Ziva, but does not see her. "Zi!?" Tony shouts. "Where are you?"
"Tony? Is that you?" Tony hears a familiar voice behind him ask.
He turns around to see McGee and Abby. "Whoa. What brings you two here?" Tony asks.
McGee and Abby look at each other, and Abby leans against him. "Just wanted to get away."
"Basically," Abby says. "It's a late anniversary thing. We were going to do something for two and a half years, but we were busy and such."
"Ah." Tony says nodding his head.
"So what are you doing here Tony?" McGee asks.
"Looking for Zee-vah."
"I'm right here." Ziva says waling up to Tony from behind.
Tony spins around. "Will you people quit doing this to me?" He chuckles, and gives her a hug. "But you can stop in plain general."
"Aww, but then it's no fun."
"Oh alright." Tony chuckles. "You can continue." Tony and Ziva face McGee and Abby. "But for the two of you, no more." Tony sets a straight face.
"Tony." McGee says. "So why are you guys here?" He chuckles.
"Yeah, what happened to going back to Kelly?" Abby asks.
"Oh!" Tony brightens his face and doesn't say anything.
"Ziva?" Abby asks.
"Yes." Ziva chuckles. "When Tony and I went back home after Gibbs', Anthony and Carrie had gotten Kelly to fall asleep in our bed, and well, they fell asleep beside her. So we decided to use the opportunity to get away for a night." Ziva smiles. "Our little engagement celebration for the two of us."
"Speaking of engagement, when are the two of you having an engagement party?" Abby asks.
"An engagement party?" Ziva questions.
"Yeah! People come and give you presents or money, you eat cake and food. Play games and what not. But it usually gets divided by gender. Girls get together do their thing, guys go do theirs."
"Isn't that the point of the bachelor and bachelorette parties?" Ziva responds.
"Well yeah, but that's typically right before the wedding. This is right after the engagement."
"I have an idea." McGee says. "Instead of having a huge engagement party, why don't you just get a few friends and family together to celebrate? Like the people at the office, and what not. Just a small get-together." McGee smiles.
"Well," Ziva looks up at Tony. "How does that sound? Therefore you do get to see your frat brothers."
"If you like the sound of that, I'm up for it." Tony answers.
"Then let's do it!" Ziva says.
"Yay!" Abby jumps and hugs both Tony and Ziva. "You guys are my new favorite couple."
"What? The last few weeks we weren't?" Tony chuckles.
"Oh, no. You guys have been. For many years. I'm just glad to see this happening. I've even given you guys a pet name." Abby stands there with a big grin on her face.
"Years?" Tony asks.
"Pet name?" Ziva questions.
"Yes, years. I could tell that the two of you were going to be together since the start. Well, ever since Ziva was put on my good side. I mean, you were never on my bad side, it's just, you came in really fast after Kate was shot, and it was a huge change. Which change, I'm not a hug fan of. You guys always had a spark between each other. And the actions you guys have done towards each other. I so called it. I did not call a baby, but I called that you guys would get together not caring about Rule 12."
McGee chuckles. "She's right. She seen the two of you talking your first conversation. Soon after she found out Ziva was going to be temporarily on our team, she told me that she believes the two of you were going to 'hook up' in her words."
"Abby you little Devil." Tony says with a straight face. "Why didn't you come tell me? It would have been very helpful." Tony smiles.
"No it wouldn't have. Because I did not realize my feelings for you until that night. What I want to know, is about the pet name. What is a pet name?" Ziva asks.
"A pet name is when you combine the names of a couple. Your guys' is Tiva."
"Tiva?" Ziva asks.
"'T' from Tony and 'iva' from Ziva." Abby again smiles.
"Why not Zony?" Tony asks. "Wait, don't answer that. I have my answer."
Everybody laughs at Tony.
"Shall we go to the hot tub?" McGee asks.
"Good thinking." Tony says.
They head over to the hot tub to find it empty. "Perfect." They all say in unison. They look at each other and chuckle. They enter the hot tub, and McGee and Abby sit by the entrance. Tony and Ziva head to the back wall to yet another waterfall.
"Have you never seen a waterfall before Zi?" Tony asks.
"Yes. It just," Ziva hesitates, "never mind."
"No." Tony takes her hand. "You can tell me anything. Even if it may affect our lives in anyway. I want to know anything and everything about you. I love listening your stories; the stories that have built you. I do it to hear your voice. Why do you think I start random conversations? Anything to hear you talk."
Ziva can't help but smile. "Waterfalls, bring back…a memory. And it hurts." Ziva looks down. "My mother and I had taken a get-away trip, and there was a waterfall we could hear. So, we walked to it. It was the most beautiful thing I've seen." Ziva takes a long pause, and Tony puts his arm around her. "It was the last thing my mother and I did just the two of us before she was taken from me."
"I'm sorry Zi."
"Do not be sorry. It is what it is."
"Look," Tony puts his hand upon Ziva's cheek and brings her head up. "I hate for what you went through as a kid. I hate that I was not there for the shit you went through in Somalia. I am here now. I am not going to let anything take you or Kelly away from me. I am not letting anything take Kelly or me away from you, and nothing to take us away from Kelly. You girls are my world. I didn't expect all of this. In fact, it's all still settling in my head. But I would never trade it for anything in the world. Even if I had the chance to watch the premiere of every movie free for the rest of my life. Nothing will come between us. I am here to make you happy, and to forget the horrible past."
Ziva starts crying, and Tony wipes away the tears. "Tony, those are the kindest words anybody has said to me." She swallows. "Love has never been easy for me. Why do you think I never said 'yes' to Ray? I was afraid of love. Every time I had love, it was taken away from me. The reason why I had gone away after finding out I was pregnant, was because of love. I wasn't afraid of you loving me, because I had known I loved you. But I was afraid that you were to love my in the wrong way. And I did not want that."
Tony gives her a passionate kiss. A kiss never given before. The kiss that assures Ziva that he loves her the right way. "I would never do that to you. Not even to some other girl in my past. I may have been a ladies' man, but I would never love a girl for an odd reason, like a child, or money. That, is a jerk."
Ziva chuckles. "But you've only loved one other woman than me. So how do you know?"
"No, it was not just Jeanne."
"E.J.?" Ziva asks.
Tony looks down at the water.
"Tony." Ziva chuckles. "Do not be ashamed." She smiles. "It was way in the past. It doesn't not hurt me at all."
Tony looks back at Ziva. "It doesn't?"
"No." She continues to smile and leans into his body. "Can we go on the other side to hear each other now?" Ziva chuckles.
"Actually." Tony says. "I want to spend the rest of the evening like this." He smiles.
"OK." Ziva agrees, and they sit.
