Chapter Six- A Lazy Sunday
Beast Boy was bored out of his skull on the Sunday following his time with Arella on the roof where he confessed to certain of things that were on his mind, and to be honest he was embarrassed to be around her after that. Sure the green Titan only talked about what happened to Raven and his time of being suicidal, but to him that was too much information for him to give out; he was a secret person, and he never let his mask fall in front of another person before nor had he ever cried in from of anybody after his parents died. Not Rita, not Larry, not Cliff, not the Titans, and defiantly not Steve. And yet for some reason he did all of that with Arella, and he hardly knows her.
'Why did I do that? God I hope Arella doesn't tell anybody about that.' Beast Boy thinks as he recaps the events of the day before in his head. 'Maybe I will just have to watch TV by myself? I don't think I can look Arella in the eye right now.' The green Titan thinks as he walks into the common room knowing that none of the other Titans wanted to watch some good ole fashioned television marathon.
FLASHBACK STARTS
Beast Boy walked up to Raven's door and proceeds to knock on the door to get the demoness's attention.
"Open up, Rae!" Beast Boy shouted as he pounds on the door which agitates the purple hair girl to no end. "Come on, Rae! I need to ask you something very important!" He continued to shout before he falls back onto his ass when the door swung open.
"What do you want!?" Raven demanded as her irritation is made known to the downed changeling. 'What do he want now!?'
'Who cares? BB is fun.' Happy answered the demoness's inner question.
'You can ask him what he was talking about with Arella yesterday.' Knowledge commented as Raven inwardly sighs.
'Fine, but all of you shut up.' Raven obeyed as she leaves her mind and finds a beyond scarred, Beast Boy. 'What's wrong with him?'
'Oh god she's just glaring at me! I've pressed my luck too far.' Beast Boy thought as he looks up at Raven. "A-Are you okay, Rae?" He asked in concern for his friend, but more importantly his own skin. 'I'm in no position to run.'
"One my name is Raven not, Rae. Two I'm fine. Three what do you want?" Raven replied as she growled impatient with the green boy in front of her.
"Ah, w-well I was just wondering if you would like to watch some TV with me." Beast Boy questioned Raven as he hopefully looks up at Raven.
'He is interrupting my meditation for something as trivial as watching some TV? He knows that I would say no to that in the first place. I don't even care what he was talking about with my mother yesterday anymore.' Raven thought as she glided back into her room. "No." She answered before she closed her door.
"Ah man." Beast Boy whined as he walked away.
/
"Aww come on, Cy." The changeling whined as Cyborg closed his door.
"Sorry B, but I have to update the T-Car. Why don't you go ask Raven if she wants to?" Cyborg replied as he walks to the elevator that will take him to the tower's garage; while he whistled 'Mary Had a Little Lamb.'
"I already asked her. She said no, and just closed the door in my face." Beast Boy stated as he rubbed the back of his neck. "But I think I'm learning. I didn't piss her off enough for her to throw me through the wall or window or something." He chuckles.
Cyborg entered the elevator as he chuckled along with his friend. Yes it appears that his best friend is learning and is changing as he starts to mature, and the cybortronic Titan is at least happy that his friend will still play video games, do stupid things, but not piss off Raven enough for him to get blasted through a wall. "Then go see if Star or Rob wants to watch your show with you." He suggested as he closed the elevator door.
"Last two less awkward options." Beast Boy whispered to himself as he ran off to the gym in hopes of finding the Titan leader and his girlfriend.
/
"I apologize Friend Beast Boy, but Boyfriend Robin is training and I wish to watch him." Starfire answered Beast Boy's as her eyes lingered on Robin's body and she licks her lips.
"I'm leaving." Beast Boy muttered to himself as he gets a feeling that he will see something that he will not want to see if he stayed in the same room with Robin and Starfire. 'None of the thing that Starfire saw on her 'human mating documentary' are things that I want to see her do with Rob.' He thought as she shuddered at the mental images that he fought back.
"Bye, Friend Beast Boy." Starfire called out as the green Titan left the room and she giggled. "Friend Beast Boy had left the room, now can we do the making out?" The Tamaranean asked her acrobatic boyfriend.
Robin smirked as he answered. "Let's go to my room." The boy wonder instantly gets dragged away by his girlfriend to his room.
FLASHBACK ENDS
Beast Boy walks into the common room to see Raven's mother enjoying her morning cup of coffee. The Changeling walks over to the couch; mindful of how he sits down so he does not to startle the older woman and possible spill her morning cup of jo.
"What brings you here this morning, Garfield?" Arella questions the young man as she notices him sitting down with caution. Arella has to hide her smirk behind her cup so he wouldn't see it. 'It appears my warning took root after all. Rachel is wrong about this boy being a one trick pony.'
"I had plans on watching my favorite TV show today. There haven't been any villains lately, and there is a marathon on today." Beast Boy answers as he feels his heart skip a beat when she called him by his birth name. "Would you like to watch it with me?" He questions as he picks up the remote and points it towards the television set. "It's pretty awesome."
Arella ponders on the prospects of the young man's suggestion of watching some TV show that she most likely have never heard of it and as he describes it as 'pretty awesome.' "I don't see why I wouldn't want to watch this show of your, Garfield. I presume that it is age appropriate for you, and not something that's full of guts and blood." The older woman inquires as she hopes that this nice young man doesn't waste his time watching horror movies when he is a superhero and most likely sees plenty of horrors daily.
"You mean a horror movie?" Beast Boy questions as he gets a nod in return from the purple hair woman. "No, it is considered a family comedy." Hs states as he smiles bright. "Just sit back and watch."
With that being said, Beast Boy turns on the television to see the opening of the show.
1986
Santa Barbra, CA
The screen shows in white letters and numbers on a black screen before the screen changes again.
'So it's a show from my generation?' Arella thinks as she reads the screen. 'Yes it sure appears to be my generation.' She adds as she sees the people in the café with their period hair styles and clothes.
The camera pans to show a kid and a cop in both as the cop sits up straight with his arms crossed across his chest.
"Did you finish your homework?" The cop asks the kid.
"Uh huh.' The kid answers the cop as he leans forwards.
"Finish those beets?" The police officer asks as the kid as he looks at the pastries in the glass cover.
"Can I have the fudge cake?" The child asks the cop.
"What is this show about exactly, Garfield?" Arella asks the green boy sitting next to her as she leans over to not talk to loud.
"It is about an immature dude who uses his 'gifts' to help the police solve crimes." Beast Boy answers as he held his hands to his head when he said gifts.
"What do you mean by gifts?" Arella questions, but all she gets in return is another smile and a finger pointing to the TV. The woman turns her attention back to the TV to see the boy with his hands on his head.
"Which letter is out on the exit sign?" The man asks as he looks to see the X is out.
"The X." The child answers as he makes his discontentment and boredom made aware to the cop.
"What color is the vinyl?" The man asks again.
"What's vinyl?" The child asks in return.
"It's the stuff these seats are covered in." The cop answers as he looks at the seats.
"Purple." The child answers.
"Maroon, but close enough." The man comments.
"Is the child supposed to be a psychic or something along those lines?" Arella questions as she notices that what the man sees the boy appears to sees as he touches his head with his eyes closed.
"I can't tell you that. It would ruin the surprise." Beast Boy answers with a teasing and knowing smile on his face.
"Fine then Garfield if you will not answer me then I will just simply have to watch and see for myself." Arella responds as she turns back to the TV.
"How many hats?" The man asks as he leans forward.
"Come on, dad." The boy responds in irritations at the older man's question.
"Shawn if you want a piece of cake then how many hats are in the room." The cop states as he offers no other option for the cake.
Shawn shakes his head and then images flash on the TV of people in the room who are wearing hate.
"Does a beanie count?" Shawn questions.
"What do you think?" The cop answers as the boy then concentrates harder and rubs his head with his fingers.
"Three." Shawn states.
"You didn't describe them." The police man responds.
"That's not fair." Shawn replies.
"Times almost up, Shawn." The cop states as the boy's arm moves to his right.
"One has a flower, the one the old lady is wearing." Shawn starts as he moves his hand back to his head. "One has a picture of some kind of lion on the weird guy with the crooked tooth, and the last one is on the chef."
"What about the beanie?" The man questions as the waitress watches in interest.
"A beanie is a cap not a hat." Shawn answers as the older man half smiles.
"Alright, open your eyes." The man states as the boy removes his hands from his head and opens his eyes as the man beams with pride.
"Wow that's amazing." The waitress comments.
Shawn shrugs and smiles while the man looks at the boy. "It's adequate." The cop looks to the waitress. "Get him his cake."
The waitress writes down his order before she smiles at the boy. "I guess I know what you're gonna be when you grow up."
"Oh, I'm never gonna grow up, ma'am." Shawn replies.
2006
…Still Santa Barbra.
"So what do you think? Is he a psychic or is he just gifted?" Beast Boy questions as he hears the woman's heartbeat pick up as they get to the scene where as adult Shawn is making out and feeling up a blond woman in a black skirt and red blouse.
"He is either psychic or he has a photo graphic memory." Arella answers as her eyes follow Shawn's hands on the woman's body. 'Calm Down, Arella. You are a grown woman, and you are past such things at your age. If you haven't found man by now you surely won't at all.' She thinks as she sits back against the back of the couch and watches as Shawn uses his eyes to notice certain things and uses that to call in a tip to the police. "Or he has a photo graphic memory with an acute sense of observation."
"Bingo, hit the nail on the head." Beast Boy responds before he notices the lack of snackage in his hands or in Arella's. "Hold right here and I will get us some snackage and something to drink." He suggest as he leaps behind the couch, and walks to the kitchen.
"Psych." Arella whispers at the title of the show appear in blue letters.
Minutes pass as Arella becomes engulfed with the shows plot and most importantly the character Shawn and how he acts, and pretends to be a psychic.
"Aaah no, I'm never doing anything blinded with you ever again. I learned that at the Mexican border. Twice." Beast Boy comments as he mimics the character Gus on the TV as he takes his seat next to Arella, but this time they are just a little closet to each other and no longer have a two seat gap between them, but half a seat gap between them instead.
Into the third episode, Beast Boy and Arella subconcouncly got closer to each other as the green Titan ends up lying on the human born Azarathian as she lies on the couch with him. She has her arms wrapped around the green boy and places her hands on his chest.
'I hope Arella doesn't mind. I hope she doesn't think that I'm some kind of horny teenager….granted I Am a horny teenager, but I don't want Arella to think of me like that. She'll probably take back what she said.' Beast Boy thinks as he watches the episode along with the woman.
'We are just enjoying watching the TV together. There is nothing wrong with getting relaxed.' Arella thinks before she felt his chest. 'By Azar, he is well built for his age. Wait, what am I saying? He's a teenager!'
'Mmm Arella's hand feel good on my chest.' Beast Boy thinks before he blushes and shakes that thought from his head. 'What is with me? Arella is like twice my age, she is Raven's mom, and she is way too beautiful to ever be interested in someone like me. Yeah I know she said that a real woman wouldn't judge me by my skin, but what if she was just saying that to make me feel better? That has got to be it! There is no other explanation as to why such a gorgeous woman would be cuddling with me!' He adds before he feels a hand moving on his chest. 'I wish I wasn't green, and then maybe I would have a shot.'
'Azar help me! I'm cuddling with a fifteen year old boy, a-a-a…..and I'm enjoying it.' Arella frantically thinks as she feels her face flush and her heart beating picks up. 'I'm a pedophile! No wait, I'm not sexual attracted to Garfield, but I simply enjoy holding him in my arms.' She adds as she tries to deny that she doesn't hate or mind holding the boy in her arms one bit. 'Besides Garfield wouldn't be interested in someone like me. I'm thirty years old, and there are plenty of girls his own age. There were those two fairly attractive girls at the restaurant so why would he want some old lady like me. Where did that come from?'
Hours seems to past, but in reality it was more like minutes and both found their situation to be both a thrill and quite awkward, but mostly awkward. Both take peeks around the room, puzzled as to why none of the other Titans have entered the common room. Both ask themselves why they are still in this same position, but they both don't want to be the one who makes comments about their current situation or to be frank want to ruin the comfort that they feel with each other.
"How do you like the show, Arella?" Beast Boy asks the woman.
"I really like it, Garfield. In fact this is by far one of the better TV shows that I have seen in all of my years." Arella answers as she winces as a reminder of her age.
"Please Arella, you are not that old. Thirty is the new twenty." Beast Boy responds as he teases the woman, and makes her blush. "Besides you look better than most girls I've seen around the city."
"Oh Garfield you are such the charmer." Arella replies as she slaps his chest.
They both chuckle as they drift back to watching Psych, and thinking to themselves on how odd this day has been. For Beast Boy he had thought that being around Arella again right after his little confession, but to his relief he didn't find being around the woman to be awkward, sure when they first started cuddling it was awkward, but now he was pretty comfortable with it. For Arella she found the day to be quite enjoyable when she was watching the show with the young green boy, but she did feel like a terrible person when she discovered that she enjoyed cuddling with her daughter's friend, but she doesn't feel that bothered with it anymore. In fact she enjoys his warmth.
"I like how Juliet and Shawn interact with each other. Young love is such a beautiful thing, Garfield." Arella comments as she smiles at the TV. "Have you ever been in love?" She asks the changeling.
Beast Boy sighs as he recalls all the times that he had fallen in love with some girl. "When I was six there was this girl who was my best friend, when I was eleven I fell in love with my first girlfriend Jillian, and lastly I was in love with Raven." He answers the older woman as he feels so comfortable talking with the purple haired woman.
"That's sweet, Garfield." Arella softly comments. "I remember my first love. His name was Mark. What happened to those two girls?" She asks.
"I moved away from my first love, Jillian broke up with me when my legal guardian tried to kill her, and you already know about, Raven." Beast Boy answers as he instinctively grabs her hands that are on his chest which makes them both blush and their hearts skip a beat. "What happened to this Mark guy?" He asks, but he doesn't move his hands and either do the woman.
"Well seeing how he was older than me, and already had his eyes set on my babysitter I'd say he is probably married to her and has a kid or two by now. I never really saw either of them when I got older, and stopped needing a babysitter but I never forgot the feeling of my first love." Arella answers as she smiles at the memories of chasing after an older blond man.
"I'm sorry to hear that." Beast Boy comments in a solemn voice and rubs her knuckles with his thumb, and his eyes start to droop close.
"So….am I, but if that never happened then I never would have had my little, Rachel." Arella replies as she yawns showing how tired she is and very close to falling asleep. 'I wonder what Mark and Marie are up to these days?' She asks herself as she realizes that the boy in her arms has fallen asleep, and she loses her will to stay awake, and closes her eyes for the night.
