Chapter 6
Her fingers twitched slightly and then her toes and finally she moved her hand up to her head where it felt damp from a wet cloth. Kailanna squinted while opening her eyes and took in her surroundings. The walls of an inn and she was in a futon with the door of her room slightly open. As she began to sit up she realized she her torso was wrapped in bandages as well as her thigh. She rubbed her eyes and looked around to see Kagome with her back to Kailanna, humming quietly and getting a fresh towel for Kailanna's head.
When Kagome turned around she gasped, "Kailanna! You can't sit up yet, lay back down!" "I'm fine Kagome" Kailanna pushed her hand away. "Who bandaged be up? Where are we?" The questions started to pour out of Kailanna. Kagome sighed and realized if she is as stubborn as Inuyasha then there was no way she could get Kailanna to lay back down. "Inuyasha insisted that he was the only one to touch your bandages or your wounds and we are at an inn in a neighbouring village. Inuyasha rushed you here after you fainted." 'Fainted?' Suddenly Kailanna remembered she fainted after she was wounded by the foot soldier of the bandit leader and remembered the child. Kailanna sighed, "How could I be so weak to faint..." She asked herself, "where is the kid?" "You held out a heck of a lot longer than a lot of people would. We gave her to the village's elder, she adopted her." Kagome tried to reassure her. "Where's Inuyasha?" "He's resting, he's been watching over you since we came here." "How long ago was that?" "Only about a day." With her answers Kailanna slowly started to get up, her leg hurt more now and her back was the worse of the two. Kagome worriedly looked at Kailanna as she stood; staying by her side in case she needed her. "Don't follow me" Kailanna said finally as she started to walk out of her room.
Kailanna walked into the hallway and stuck her nose in the air to search for Inuyasha's room, she found it very quickly, and it was the door two doors down from her own. She opened the door quietly in case he was sleeping and walked in. The silver haired half-demon was sitting upright with his trusty sword in his lap, sleeping although sitting up, made Kailanna smile, which isn't anything special because he always made Kailanna smile even if it was on the inside most of the time. She tried to walk over to him as quietly as she could being in her clumsy state and sat down about two feet in front of him.
She sat their quietly for a bit as she saw his nose twitch and it made her smile. He smelt the air; she guessed he smelt her because his eyes opened wide. "Kailanna." Inuyasha breathed a sigh of relief. "Hey, Inuyasha." She replied as if nothing was wrong, which angered Inuyasha, "You should be in bed, what are you doing?" "Inuyasha, I'm fine, man you've been hanging around Kagome for too long." Inuyasha grunted and crossed his arms, "Don't compare me to Kagome."
Kailanna laughed a bit and looked down at her lap, "Hey, I could probably take this bandages off", she said as she started to undo the bandage on her upper thigh. Her hands started to work around her leg and pushed up her very short kimono a tiny bit which brought a slight pink shade to Inuyasha's face as he watched her remove it. Kailanna unravelled the bloody bandage and set it aside, all that was left was a raw scar. "Look at that." She looked up at Inuyasha, "Are you okay?" She looked down at her skirt and pulled it back down, "You put the bandage on Inuyasha you think you'd be fine." At her words the shade a pink turned into a shade of red on Inuyasha's face. Kailanna laughed. "Shut up..." Inuyasha grumbled turned his face away from her. "Come on Inuyasha we used to bathe all the time together." "Yeah when we were kids but you're all grown up now!"
Kailanna had a shocked look on her face, "Alright, fine, sorry. While I'm here can you redo the bandages?" Inuyasha swallowed, her bandages were all down her torso, yeah he did it before, but she was knocked out then. He put up a bold front, "Yeah, yeah turn around." Kailanna quietly obeyed him as he picked up the bandages Kagome had given him. She quickly undid the top of her kimono, slipped her arms from it and let it fall to her waist. Inuyasha turned back towards her and her back was to him, like he asked, but he could still see that she had her arms over her chest and her hair moved off to the right side of her body and he gulped. He walked over to her and slowly started to unravel the bandage more and more until and came off and revealed a still raw gash along her back, not as deep but still bad. Kailanna closed her eyes and every time his hands touched her body in anyway a chill would get sent up her spine, she loved this feeling. Inuyasha quietly cleaned the gash and then started to bandage it back up. When he was finished he tucked it under another piece, "There." Kailanna softly nodded and slipped her arms back through her kimono and did it back up, "Thanks." Inuyasha nodded.
"So where are we heading off to next." Kailanna turned back around and looked at Inuyasha. Inuyasha just shrugged, "I don't know where ever we have to go to catch Naraku." "Right, right, we should get going then." She stood. "What do you mean get going, you're still hurt," "Oh come on Inuyasha since when do you care if someone is hurt, I said we should go so that obviously means I am fine." Inuyasha put two and two together and nodded, "Alright well we have to get everyone." Kailanna nodded and started to walk out the door and back to her room, "Kagome, were going to get going" She said as she poked her head in. "Oh, you're feeling alright Kailanna?" "Of course I am, do you know where Miroku and Sango are?" "Um, I think they went outside with Kilala and Shippo, there is a pretty garden outside." Kagome explained to her softly.
Kailanna nodded, "Thanks!" She walked down the hall way to the end where there was a door leading to the outside. Kailanna opened the door and shaded her eyes with her hand. When her eyes adjusted to the light she saw Miroku and Sango sitting closely together on a garden bench while Shippo and Kilala played. Kailanna's eyebrows raised at the monks and demon slayers actions and felt weird calling them out of their conversation but she did anyway, "Miroku! Sango! We're going to get going soon!" "Kailanna?" Sango shaded her eyes to see farther away, "Is that you? Are you alright?" "Yes! I'm fine let's just get going!"
"Kailanna!" Shippo yelled and began to run to Kailanna with Kilala not far behind. Kailanna couldn't help but smile at the little demon, "Hey Shippo." Shippo jumped up into Kailanna's arms, "I'm so happy you're okay Kailanna." Just then Inuyasha came out the door and hit the fox on the head with his fist, "Man up, Squirt" "Ow! Inuyasha!" Shippo rubbed his head where Inuyasha had hit him. Kailanna just laughed a bit, she knew Inuyasha was just giving him tough love. "You know Shippo he's only doing that so you grow up to be strong and it shows..." She trailed off and looked around, getting close to Shippo's ear, "that Inuyasha really loves you." "What?! But that's gross!" Shippo exclaimed while Kailanna continued to smile, "As a little brother, silly." Shippo opened his mouth in an "O" shape, getting the point and softly jumped out of Kailanna's arms.
Shortly after, everyone was outside waiting for Kagome to pack her bag, "Damnit why does Kagome have to take so long?" "She's a woman Inuyasha; women always take a long time." Miroku explained. Sango looked at the monk with a face of 'excuse me?' Miroku slowly rubbed the back of his head, laughing nervously. "What I meant to say was that Kagome is probably doing something extremely important."
Kagome then came out of the doors, "Alright guys, let's go!" "Took you long enough." Inuyasha grumbled. "It takes time Inuyasha!" Kagome defended herself. "Whatever, let' get goin' " Inuyasha said finally and started to walk. Kailanna nodded and started to walk beside him. Then Miroku, Sango and Kilala, and Kagome and Shippo followed after.
The sun was bright and the weather was as hot as ever and Kagome was fanning herself to stay cool. Kailanna walked with her arms crossed, Kagome on one side, with Shippo in her arms of course complaining about the heat, and Inuyasha on the other. Ahead was Miroku and Sango walking and talking all by their lonesome. Kailanna's eyebrows rose when she saw Miroku reach for Sango's butt. Miroku grabbed her behind and Sango immediately stopped walking, turned and gave Miroku a bright red five-star slap on his face. "Why do you have to ruin it Miroku." Sango scolded the monk. "Sango! No I'm sorry! It's just so firm..." Miroku went off daydreaming with a dumb look on his face and his hands squeezing air. Kailanna laughed a bit. "I bet Sango is going off about he is a lecherous monk right about now." Kailanna said quietly. Kagome giggled softly, "You're probably right." Inuyasha just smirked.
"I'm surprised that Miroku has tried to hit on Kailanna yet." Kagome said just from the actions that happened moments ago. "Probably because he knows Kailanna can kick his ass." Inuyasha chuckled. Kagome smiled while Kailanna laughed a bit.
"So Kailanna, what were your parent's names?" Kagome asked out of the blue. "Oh, um, his name was Irito." She nodded a bit while talking, remembering. "He was Inuyasha's Father's partner, kind of a captain lieutenant thing. Obviously Inuyasha's Father was the captain, my Father was the second strongest wolf demon, but just as known and my mother... My mother was beautiful. She has long light brown hair with one black streak in it, her name was Maei." Kailanna finished, looking at Kagome. Kagome nodded, "What a pretty name. Do you have any siblings?" "Um, a half sister, my mother had her after my father vanished, her name is Yuma." Kailanna smiled.
"Hey I remember the little brat." Inuyasha finally spoke up, "She's still kicking?" Kailanna nodded and looked at Inuyasha, "I checked up on her before coming to find you, she has kids now, and her kids have kids." "Really? She got married?" Inuyasha said in disbelief. "Yes she found a husband Inuyasha, and I'm happy for her for settling down." Inuyasha huffed and crossed his arms, "That's boring." "Of course you think that's boring." Kagome interrupted in a snotty voice. "What do you know Kagome?" Inuyasha said back quickly.
Kailanna looked ahead at the squabbling couple and noticed Miroku trying to make it up to her as she laughed a bit, while Kagome and Inuyasha got into, yet another, fight.
Hours have passed, it was starting to get dark and the gang didn't find anything to do with Naraku or the sacred jewel shards. "Guys, I found a place to camp out for the night!" Sango shouted and waved her arm to grab everyone's attention. The remainder of the friends followed Sango to a cute shallow cave." Kagome smiled, "It's so cute!" Kailanna walked in slowly, there was an old smell of fox in the cave, but it was old enough.
"And there is a hot spring where we can bath nearby." Sango added in. "Oh awesome! I feel so gross." Kagome has a disgusted look on her face, "I think I smell bad too." "You do smell bad." Inuyasha waved air away from his nose. "Inuyasha!" Kagome said angrily. Inuyasha chuckled.
"Hey Kailanna, you should come bathe with us too." Sango insisted. "Oh I think I'm good, maybe next time." "Please come, Kailanna!" Kagome pleaded. Kailanna laughed a nervous laugh and finally nodded, no one could say no to Kagome, not because she was good at hustling but because she was annoying as ever, "Fine, alright I'll come." Kagome smiled and started to head out of the cave with Sango just in front of her.
