Chapter 6:Does He Love You the Way That I Do?

Nathan sat in his room in the house he had shared with Haley before Felix took her away from him. Being there now was one of the hardest things he had to do. She was with Felix and she was never coming back to him. He wanted his life to be over, he was in so much pain without her. It was something he'd never been through before.

Being without Haley was like not being able to breathe. It was like dying but not going to heaven. He was empty without her. There was nothing that was going to help him and he knew that. He just wanted to end everything.

"Nathan?"

Nathan looked up at Lindsey standing in the doorway. The second he saw her he could see the pity on her face. He instantly looked away from her. "What are you doing here?" he asked. She walked closer to him and kneeled down in front of him.

"You haven't left your house since…" she trailed off not knowing what to say, then she continued, "Nathan, this isn't good for you. Staying here all day isn't going to bring her back. Jake and Chase want to take you hunting. You haven't eaten in days. I can see it in your eyes."

"I don't want to go," he told her and looked at her. She saw that his eyes had hints of red in them. Something that only happened when he was really, really hungry. "Nathan your eyes are red. You need to eat something."

"I'm not hungry."

"That's a lie. I can see it."

He stood up and walked past her and out of his room with her sitting on the floor in front of where he'd been.

Nathan's eyes popped open and he realized that he was still in Haley's room. She had moved closer to him during the night. She had her arm draped over his torso and her head resting on his chest. He looked down at her and smiled. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders and traced patterns on her skin.

After about an hour Haley woke up. She looked up at him and saw that he was sleeping. She moved away from him quickly and sat up. Nathan opened his eyes and looked at her. "Hey," he said in tired voice. She smiled and pulled her knees up to her chest. "Hi," she said and smiled.

"Did you sleep ok?" She asked after a minute of silence. He nodded and smiled at her, "yeah I did. How about you?"

"Yeah."

She let her mind wander back to the night before when they had kissed. She was worried that this would make things weird for them. That was the last thing she wanted. She didn't know why she depended on him so much. He made her feel safe in a way that no one ever had and she didn't want that feeling to go away.

"What are you thinking about?" he asked. She shrugged, "just… stuff."

She looked in his eyes and saw that there was something different about them. "You're eyes are… there's a little bit of red in them." He closed his eyes and shook his head. He'd been trying to deny his thirst for a while now but it was now catching up to him. And the fact that she was in the same bed as him wasn't helping matters.

"Oh," he said and sat up, "I'm fine, they… they do that sometimes but its not a big deal." She looked at him, confusion evident on her face. "Are you sure?" she asked. He smiled and nodded, "yeah I promise, I'm fine."

"Ok."

He turned his head and looked at the clock and saw that is was almost 11:30. "Um," he said, "I should probably get going." He didn't want to leave, especially when he didn't know where Felix was, but he had to. He got out of bed and walked towards the door. "I'll see you later ok?" She smiled and nodded and watched him walk out.

When she heard the door close she smiled and laid back against her bed.

Nathan made it back to the house where he had lived with Lindsey, Chase and Jake. He walked in and sure enough Jake and Chase were in the front room playing video games. "Where's Lindsey?" Nathan asked. "In the kitchen," Chase said not looking away from the TV.

Nathan walked toward the back of the house and saw Lindsey in the kitchen at the table. She had a book in her hands and was reading. She also had her iPod on. "Why do you read in the kitchen?" Nathan asked. She put a book mark in her book and set it down and paused her iPod. "What?" she asked.

Nathan laughed and shook his head. "Nothing."

She looked at him and shook her head, "you're thirsty." Nathan nodded and sat down. "Yeah I was hoping Jake and Chase would want to go hunting." She nodded and then shrugged.

They sat in silence for awhile until he said, "where did you see him?"

"At a gas station outside of Tree Hill. He wasn't with anyone though." Nathan shook his head and sat down in one of the chairs. He rested his head in his hands and closed his eyes. "I don't want him here," he said. He knew there was nothing that he or Lindsey could do but he couldn't help but say it. "I want him to leave."

"I know that Nathan."

"You know how it was when he took her from me last time. I can't do that again. I don't think that I can even live through that. I-I just can't."

"Then why don't you just change her now? Then she's yours."

"I don't want to do that to her. I can't do that to her. I don't want her to be something I own. She doesn't deserve that. You know she doesn't deserve that."

"Nathan-"

"I need to eat." He stood up quickly and walked out to the living room to get Jake and Chase so they could go hunting.

Nathan walked with Lindsey, Jake and Chase into another party. He really didn't want to be there. There was a chance that Haley and Felix would be there and he couldn't see that. Lindsey saw the look on his face when they walked into the large house where the party was. The lights from the many chandeliers gave the house a golden glow. There were serving trays with champagne on a large table.

It was a masked party and you could hardly tell who anyone was. It wasn't until Nathan heard a familiar laugh that he knew she was there. Her beautiful laugh filled the air and he immediately turned to see her. She wore a gold dress that had a tight bodice and long sleeves and flowed down to the ground from her hips. Her hair curled and pulled back. Her mask was also gold. She glowed and she looked like an angel.

Seeing her took his breath away. He wanted to take her in his arms and kiss her and tell her how much he loved her.

Nathan saw Felix walk up behind her and wrap his arms around her torso. He kissed the side of her neck and she turned to look at him and smiled. Nathan's jaw clenched and he balled his hands into fists. Lindsey saw what he was looking at and wrapped her arm around his shoulders. "I didn't know she would be here with him."

Felix turned and saw Nathan watching him. He sent him a smirk before taking Haley out to dance with him. Brooke looked up and saw Nathan watching them. She couldn't understand what it was that had made Haley leave Nathan. It was clear how much Nathan loved her. She thought she loved him back.

But it was like Haley couldn't even remember they were ever together.

When all is said and done
And dead does he love you
The way that I do
Breathing in lightning
Tonight's for fighting
I feel the hurt so physical

Brooke sent Nathan a smile, but it was one of pity. She walked over to him and stood in front of him. "How have you been Nathan?" He shrugged his shoulders, "as well as can be expected," he said. He grabbed a glass of champagne from one of the trays and began to drink it.

"I don't understand what happened with you two," Brooke said. "I don't mean to bring it up again for you, but it doesn't make sense. It's like she forgot about it or something. Whenever I ask about it, she just laughs like it would be weird to think you two were ever in love."

"You wouldn't understand it Brooke," Nathan said, "let's not talk about it."

Think twice before you touch my girl
Come around I'll let you feel the burn
Think twice before you touch my girl
Come around come around no more
Think twice before you touch my girl
Come around I'll let you feel the burn
Think twice before you touch my girl
Come around no more

She spreads her love
She burns me up
I can't let go
I can't get out
I've said enough
Enough by now
I can't let go
I can't get out

Later on Nathan sat at a table with a group of people he didn't really know that well. He'd met them before but he didn't really know them personally. Haley walked up to the table and began to talk to one of the ladies sitting there. Soon Felix walked up and wrapped his arm around her waist. He turned and saw Nathan and said. "Well Nathan Scott."

Nathan looked up at him and his jaw clenched again. "Felix."

"Haley dear," Felix said getting her attention, "you remember Nathan don't you?" he said. Haley looked at Nathan and smiled, "of course. How are you Mr. Scott?" Nathan could feel the sting in his heart when she greeted him that way. "Fine," he said and stood up. "Excuse me," he said and walked away from the table.

Haley turned and looked at Felix. "I don't think he likes me very much," she said. Felix shook his head and kissed her lightly on the lips. "How could he not like you?"

Wait till the day you finally see
I've been here waiting patiently
Crossing my fingers and my t's
She cried on my shoulder begging please

Think twice before you touch my girl
Come around I'll let you feel the burn
Think twice before you touch my girl
Come around come around no more
Think twice before you touch my girl
Come around I'll let you feel the burn
Think twice before you touch my girl
Come around no more

On Monday Nathan walked inside the high school. He walked towards his locker and saw Haley standing at hers with Lucas. He saw Lucas lean in and kiss her on the lips before pushing a strand of hair behind her ear. He rolled his eyes before opening his locker.

Haley saw Nathan standing at his locker and when Lucas walked down the hall to go talk to his friends, she went over to him. "Hey Nate," she said and he turned around. He smiled when he saw her. "Hey Hales."

"Look um, Monday nights are usually pretty slow and Lucas has practice so do you wanna come hang out at my house later?" she asked with a hopeful tone. She didn't see a problem with hanging out with Nathan. He was her friend and Lucas shouldn't be threatened by that.

"I would love to," he said and smiled. She looked down at her shoes and back up again. A strand of her blonde hair fell in front of her eyes. He brought his hand to her face and tucked it behind her ear and kept his hand on her cheek. "There," he said, "that's better." The bell rang and it brought her out of her daze.

"I'll see you later," he said and couldn't stop himself from leaning in and kissing her cheek. He shut his locker and walked down the hall to his first class. Haley turned around and saw Brooke standing behind her a few feet. "Don't think I didn't see that," she said and hooked her arm through Haley's.

"What are you talking about?" Haley asked.

"Oh right like you and Nathan weren't totally having a moment. I think it's cute though, you know he likes you."

"I don't know that for sure so if you could not say anything I think that would be good. Besides I'm kinda dating Lucas, remember." Brooke rolled her eyes and kinked her eyebrow, "yeah how could I forget, he's always Mr. Caveman about the fact that you two are together. Doesn't that ever bother you?"

"I guess I don't really think about it all that much," Haley said as the two of them walked towards their class."

"Ok, but I'm just saying, Nathan doesn't treat you like property."

Haley sat on her couch and waited for Nathan to show up. Her house phone began to ring and she hurried to answer it. "Hello?" she asked. She didn't hear anything on the other end. "Hello?" she asked again and waited for a response. "Oh, I'm sorry," the voice said, "I think I called the wrong number."

"Oh," Haley said, "well that's ok, it was a mistake."

"Yeah." There was a click on the other end and Haley pressed the end button on her phone. That was a weird phone call. And if she was being honest, it scared her a little bit. The door bell rang and she jumped and gripped the phone tighter. She walked over to the door and opened it. She smiled when she saw Nathan on the other side.

"Hey," she said and smiled and moved out of the way so he could walk inside. "Hi," he said in response. He saw that she had the phone in her hand and he noticed the tight grip she had on it. "You ok?" he asked, "you're gripping that phone kinda tight."

"Oh," she said, "um, yeah I'm ok. I just got this weird phone call but it's ok."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah it was just a wrong number."

He could hear it in her voice that something about the phone call scared her. He didn't know what it was but he didn't want her to ever feel like she had to be scared. "Oh, well I'm here so lets hang out, ok?" she nodded and the two of them walked back into the living room.

She spreads her love
She burns me up
I can't let go
I can't get out
I've said enough
Enough by now
I can't let go
I can't get out

What is it you really want
I'm tired of asking
You're gone I'm wasted

He didn't know how much longer he could stand to watch Haley with Felix. It truly was like he and Haley had never been in love. She didn't remember what they had and he hated Felix for that.

Haley saw Nathan looking at them and when Felix went to talk to someone she went over to him. "Nathan?" she said and he looked up at her. She felt the air leave her lungs when she looked into his eyes. "I need to speak with you," she said. He stood up and walked out into the hall with her.

"What did you need to say to me?" He knew his tone sounded cold but he didn't mean for it to. "I don't know what I've done to you," she said, "but all night you've been very cold to me."

"You never did anything to me," he said, "I'm sorry if I've made it seem that way. It wasn't what I meant to do."

"Well I hope that we can be friends," she said and smiled, "I would hate it if we couldn't be."

When I showed up and he was there
I tried my best to grin and bear
And took the stairs but didn't stop at the street
And as we speak I'm going down

She went to walk back into the ballroom so she could go back to Felix. Nathan couldn't let her do that without her knowing how he was feeling. "Haley wait," he said and grabbed her elbow gently. She turned around and looked at him. "What?" she asked.

"You want to know why I've been so cold to you?"

"I thought you said-"

"I'm in love with you. I can't stand to see you with Felix. Every time he looks at you and kisses you, I can't stand it. I love you."

She didn't know what to say to him. She didn't know that was how he felt. "I'm- I didn't know you felt that way Nathan. I don't know what to say." she really didn't know what she was thinking right now. She was with Felix. "What's going on you two?" Felix asked as he stepped out into the hall.

"Nothing," Nathan said and let go of her elbow. "Come on Haley," Felix said, "there are some people I want you to meet." She nodded and walked away from Nathan towards Felix. Felix walked in and she was about to follow him but she turned and looked back at Nathan. She walked over to him and kissed his cheek. "I'm sorry Nathan, we just couldn't work."

She turned away from him and walked back inside the ball room.

Cause she spread her love
And burnt me up
I can't let go
I can't get out
I've said enough
Enough by now
I can't let go
I can't get out

Think twice before you touch my girl
Come around I'll let you feel the burn
Think twice before you touch my girl
Come around come around no more
Think twice before you touch my girl
Come around I'll let you feel the burn
Think twice before you touch my girl
Come around no more

Nathan and Haley sat on her couch watching movies again all night. "So where's this dog of yours?" Nathan asked, "I mean every time I come over I never see him. I'm beginning to think you made him up."

"I actually don't know where he is actually. I haven't seen him since Saturday."

He smiled and turned back towards the screen and continued to watch the movie. "I'm glad you're here Nathan. I really like spending time with you."

"Me too, Haley." He smiled and turned to face her and moved closer to her. "I don't know why, but I feel very protective of you." She smiled and said, "I like that you're protective of me."

Ok let me know what you think about this chapter! I hope you all liked it. Please review!!

Ok so I just want to say that I liked the episode tonight but it made me sad. Anytime they bring back Q for a flashback or whatever it makes me sad lol. But Jamie and Nathan were the best part of the episode for me. Nathan kicked ass at his try out and Jamie was so cute through the whole episode. Anyways, that's what I thought about that! lol
