[Derek POV]

I was just sitting around with the boys in Charlie's hospital room eating the terrible food they served here. The news channel buzzed to life all of a sudden with breaking news. I focused my attention on the flashing screen.

"This just in. A man at gun point stormed into a local diner, supposedly shooting a waitress, who is in critical condition. But thats not all. Reports have informed us, that the woman will not be pressing charges on the gun man." A news lady droned on about other things, when my phone began ringing. I put down my sandwich, wiping my hands as I picked up my cell.

"Hello?"

"Is this Derek?" a deep male voiced questioned.

"This is him. Who is this?"

"This is Sargent Daniels from the police department. I was asked to inform you that a lady named Chloe Saunders has just been shot and is in transport to the hospital."

"WHAT?!" I screeched into the cellular device as i stood to my feet, noticing all three boys were staring at me.

"Sir. She was shot my the name of Greg Plamters. Do you have any connection to why he would shoot Ms. Saunders?"

"No. I have no idea, I have no idea who he even is." I replied with worry clearly present in my voice. "What hospital is she in route to?"

"Lenox Hill Hospital. I'm going to need to see you there for a statement clarifying that you don't know Greg Plamters." The Sargent explained sternly.

"Already at the hospital with our son who recently had surgery. I'll have the nurses to notify me when you get here." I explained then quickly wrapped up the conversation and ended the call.

"Momma is hurt isn't she?" Laith asked quietly while looking at the tile floor. I knelt down at his level, tilting his chin up so he was looking me in the eyes as I told him;

"She's coming to the hospital now. But she will be okay, I promise you." After I stated this both Laith and Trent ran to me with tears silently rolling down their cheeks, I grabbed onto them like they were my life line while picking them up and moved to the chair. I grabbed onto Charlie's hand, knowing it wasnt a good idea to hug him, which could possibly cause him pain. I whispered sweet nothings to the boys, promising that their mother would be okay, yet I was silently praying it would come true.

[Chloe POV]

I heard a bunch of loud fuzzy noises. I couldn't move and I was in unbearable pain, which was radiating from my abdomen area. Slowly the darkness began to fade turning into a huge bright light above me. I rolled my head to the side, looking out at a man? Huh? Where was I? Why does everything look so fuzzy and is so bright? I slowly blinked, begging my eyes to focus, I began to see the man more clearly and I could tell he was asking me something.

"Ms. Saunders, if you can hear me, blink twice." The man asked of me. I slowly closed and reopened my eyes twice, still not comprehending what was going on. "Ma'am, we're on the way to the hospital. You've been shot, and we have contacted a Mr. Souza. Now, I want you to just relax; everything will be just fine."

I remember now, being called into work, having a bunch of customers to wait on, the guy pulling the gun out, then me stepping in between, the gun shot, then the bullet piercing my skin. I began to feel really dizzy as black spots began to appear in my vision.

"MA'AM, you need to stay awake. Stay with me okay? We're almost ther-" I tried to keep my eyes open, but I couldn't fight enough, my hearing cut out again at the same time darkness invaded my eye sight. I lost all sense of consciousness.

[Derek POV]

As soon as the boys calmed down, I pulled out my cellphone, sending a text to notify my family. And telling them to get up here pronto. It seemed like no time had passed when the hospital room door busted open, revealing the two most annoying being in the world along with my father. They all began to question me at rapid fire.

"Shut it!" I bellowed, "You already heard what happened from the news. I need you guys to stay with the kids while I go figure out what the hell is going on."

"Okay. Son, just please try to stay a little calm. We understand how you feel, but the doctors can only do so much. And I'm speaking from experience."

I nodded my head as I got up to leave. I stopped turned around gave each boy a kiss on their forehead, telling them to be good while I figure out how Chloe is doing. I practically sprinted from the room to the nearest elevator; I hopped inside and began to rapidly push the button again and again, as if that would make it go faster. Once the doors sprang open, I darted to the emergency entrance just in time to see a stretcher being rushed inside.

"We got a gunshot wound to the right side of the abdomen. It seems to have punctured a lung and could have caused some severe internal bleeding." A medic began stating while wheeling Chloe towards an operating room. I ran along side trying to find out what was going on. I began to push my way to her, I got a glimpse of her, knocked out and her face was drained of any and all blood, before I was forcibly pushed back.

"Sir. Please stay back. We have to take her to emergency surgery in order to remove the bullet. Please wait in the waiting area and we will notify you with any updates on her condition as soon as possible." A male nurse, explained to me. I was about to refuse, but I bit my tongue as I remembered my father's words.

"Okay." I murmured softly, beginning my walk back toward the seating area to wait on Chloe's status. I rounded the corner, only to see a man seated, cradling his head with bloody hands, and kept asking himself, "Oh, what have I done!?".

Understanding smacked me across the face as I charged toward the guy. I roughly pulled him out of the chair by his shirt collar meanwhile aiming my fist at his face, fully intending on rearranging his ugly mug. "Are you Greg? Greg Plamters?" I asked shaking him violently and glaring daggers at him. He nodded his head and I was about to kick his ass when a hand grabbed my pant leg. I looked down, seeing Laith and not to far behind was Trent who was with Tori.

"Don't hurt him. He didn't mean to hurt Momma. Momma wouldn't want anyone to hurt him anyway cause its not right. Aunt Tori says it was a trwagic axe-ciwdent." He stated softly with tears building in his eyes.

I let out a long sigh and dropped Greg back in his chair. "You're right. Momma wouldn't want that." I murmured in reply. I then sat down, reaching out toward Laith who climbed into my lap. Laith and I sat there for what seemed to be days, waiting on an update on Chloe's condition, while the rest of the family was back upstairs with Charlie. The police came later on, got my statement and hauled Greg off do to aggravated assault with the use of a deadly weapon. Then the hospital was flooded with my fans. Clearly someone tipped off the media about my whereabouts, but luckily security came and made people leave after a couple minutes because of the noise. After all the hectic events of today, Laith passed out on my shoulder 3 hours ago. Now at four o'clock in the morning I began to nod off, only to have a doctor come down the hall heading straight toward me. I prayed to ever God, that she would be okay because being in this hospital was hell.
