All I could do after hearing the news that Azula just told us was pace the floor of my treehouse. The entire new Team Avatar, now including Azula, was there.
"What are we going to do?" Katara asked.
"I'm working on it!" Sokka and I snapped at the same time. He looked at me.
"I'm the planning person in this group!" he whined.
"Yeah well this is my territory, not the Day of Black Sun invasion," I told him hatefully.
He huffed and let me handle it, not coming up with any ideas.
I kept pacing. I didn't even notice James standing in front of me until I almost ran into him.
"Kaya, you really need to calm down," he put one of his hands on my cheek, then he placed both of his hands on my shoulders. "I'm really starting to worry about you."
"Well can you blame me? I mean we have two months to fix all of this, uphold our normal lives, and not tell our parents. I'm stressing so much I can feel the gray hairs growing!"
He sighed and hugged me. I hugged him back.
"Hate to break this up," Zuko loomed over us with his arms crossed and a look of disapproval on his face, "but I'm afraid we have more important things to think about right now than hugging your lover."
"Sorry Hot Head, but he is not my lover."
He glared at me and sat back down.
"I know I said that this was my territory Sokka," I turned to the guy sharpening his boomerang for the third time since after school, "But you are the most amazing out of all of us at making plans. Will you please help me?"
"Of course Kaya."
"Perfect."
"While you two plan away, I think we have some interrogating to do," Toph said. "But can we do it outside? On the ground. I can't see to save me life."
"Yeah. Katara? Zuko? Why don't you take Azula and Toph outside for questioning?"
They nodded and took the girls outside.
"So what do you have in mind?" I asked Sokka.
"I was thinking about maybe revising the invasion plan to fit our needs for this time," he replied with a thoughtful, yet excited, look in his eyes.
"And how exactly do you plan to do that?"
"I was thinking that instead of invading the Fire Nation, you, Zuko, and the crazy-ass lightning bender could go confront Ozai and talk to him."
"Good. But you do realize that it sounds nothing like the invasion plan, right?"
Sokka frowned but instantly brightened. "Then we can call it: Confrontation of the Loser Lord."
"You are a genius Sokka," I said sarcastically as Katara, Toph, Zuko, and Azula came back up to the tree house.
"What did you find out?" James asked.
"She's telling the truth," Toph said.
"But you even admitted Azula was a good liar," I pointed out.
"I got better at it. And she's telling the truth."
"We did find out more about the effects of the comet on us," Katara stated.
"What about it?" Asami asked cautiously.
"The comet not only allowed Azula to change worlds, but it will allow us too. I don't know what you and Sokka have already planned, Kaya, but I think you, Azula, and I should go talk to my father," Zuko answered.
"That's actually what we planned," Sokka grinned.
"What else did you guys find out?" I asked.
"Azula mentioned roughly about something like this happening before, and we figured out who it was that crossed over," Katara replied.
"Who?" James, Aang, Sokka, Bolin, Mako, Asami, Korra, and I asked at the same time.
"Your mom's ancestors, Kaya," Katara responded.
OoOoOoOoOoOo
"My mom's what?!" I freaked. "But how?"
"We don't know," Zuko said.
"So this means you belong in the Avatar Universe…" James said sadly.
"I'm not going to leave everyone I love just to live there James. I couldn't do that," I hugged him.
"So how do we all get back over?" Korra asked.
"You and Twinkle Toes have to use energybending to get us back over," Toph replied.
"So how do we get back over?" Aang asked.
"You're the Avatar, you tell me."
"And what if this doesn't work?" Asami asked.
"It has to," Mako said, "It's our only chance."
"And our only hope," Bolin added.
"So who's up first?" Korra asked, rubbing her hands together vigorously.
"Zuko, Azula, and me," I stood up.
"We have to talk to my father," Zuko said, "It's only logical to let us go first."
"In that case, for the time being, I think that you guys are the only ones that should go," James piped up.
"Then how would we get back?" I asked him.
"Uh… Good point. I guess Aang or Korra could go with you guys."
"Sounds good. Sorry Aang, but I think Korra should come with us on this."
"I was just about to suggest her," Aang smiled.
"That's good Arrowhead, because you had your go with Fire Lord Butt Face, now it's my turn," Korra grinned.
"I like her," Toph smirked.
We all laughed.
"Ready guys?" I asked Zuko, Azula, and Korra.
They all nodded.
"I guess we'll see you guys later…"
James nodded solemnly.
I hugged him. "Thank you so much. For everything," I whispered.
"Duh," he whispered, hugging me back and giving me a tight squeeze.
"Choking, not breathing," I laughed as he let me go.
"Be careful."
"Duh," I gave a small smile and followed the rest of my small group down the ladder of the treehouse.
OoOoOoOoOoOo
The transfer to the Avatar Universe was actually easier than expected. And the Avatar Universe was more beautiful in person than in the show. Well, the Fire Nation portion, which is where we were.
"I'm going to be the only one here with blond hair, aren't I?" I asked with annoyance.
"Probably," Korra replied.
"I wonder if you're a bender," Zuko said.
"I don't know," I responded thoughtfully.
"Let me check," Korra got water and started to waterbend, checking my chi path with her healing abilities.
"And?" I asked her when she was done.
"You're an earthbender."
I frowned. "Of all the types of bending, I had to be an earthbender."
"What kind of bender did you want to be?"
"A firebender…" I said embarrassed. That was only because of my reasoning.
"Why would you want to be a firebender?" Zuko asked, "It's like a curse."
"Why would she not want to?" Azula asked, crossing her arms, "Fire is the element of power, which must mean it's the best element to bend."
"You guys don't want to know…" I started walking to the palace.
"The prison is the other way Kaya," I could hear the laugh in Zuko's voice.
I turned around. "I knew that," I blushed.
"How about I lead?"
"Good idea."
Korra shook her head at me and laughed.
"What?" I crossed my arms and frowned at her.
"Nothing," she grinned at me.
I heard Azula scoff.
"You're rolling your eyes, aren't you?" I asked the ex-princess.
"Slightly," she replied in an annoyed tone.
OoOoOoOoOoOo
"Finally the Fire Lord graciously comes to visit me." Ozai was facing the opposite wall from where we all stood in front of his cell.
"Don't forget me, oh kind father," Azula said with a sneer.
"How could I forget the daughter who failed me?"
"We have more important business than you making your awesome kids feel bad," I said.
"You must be the girl who made the wish."
"In the flesh."
"And what is your purpose for seeing me today?"
"How did you know something was wrong with Sozin's Comet?"
"I was under the influence of it when I was facing the Avatar."
"So why did you want to see Zuko about it?"
"If the people in this land know about the people in your land, it will cause havoc on both worlds."
"How?"
"Your whole family is the perfect example."
"Why my family?"
"Your great-great-grandmother, Hoda, was originally in the Earth Kingdom, but when Sozin's Comet came, she moved to your world because she was tired of this one."
"Why move from here? It's so amazing."
"Can I finish?"
"Go ahead."
"What she did was dangerous. If anyone knows how to transfer from one world to another, there won't be a safe haven for you nonbenders, safe from us evil benders."
"But I'm a bender."
"You're the only bender in your family then. It shouldn't be possible that you are a bender in the first place."
"Why not?"
"What do you think I am?"
"I'm not even going to answer that, unless you don't mind me being rude."
"I'm in prison, how much worse can my life get?"
"Uh… good point."
"Are we done now?"
"One more question."
He sighed. "Ask it."
"What will the people in the Avatar Universe do if they find out about my world?"
"They might see you as a threat. This world would work together again, but only to destroy your own."
"But if they saw that my world was full of nonbenders, wouldn't that result in an even greater revolution because these nonbenders would see mine and defend them? Somewhat."
"I don't know. I obviously can't predict the future. Last time I tried to do that, I ended up here, with no bending."
I frowned. "I thank you for your help, Fire Lord, Ozai."
"I haven't heard that before my name for a long time."
I sighed again and headed out the door.
OoOoOoOoOoOo
"Are you ok?" Zuko asked me later as we walked back to the palace to go to my world and meet up with the rest of the Gaang.
"Fine."
"Kaya I'm a little worried about you. You didn't look so good when he said something about your family. And at the end, you looked like you were going to cry."
"I don't know if that was just his act at the end, but he sounded sad, like he knew what all he had done wrong, but he didn't know if he could fix it…"
"He just wanted you to pity him."
"Are you really that sure Zuko? How do you know that he doesn't miss all of the happy times you guys had together on Ember Island? How do you know he doesn't miss his kids? His banished wife? How do you know Zuko?"
"I don't know. But I do know this, if he was released from that prison cell, he'd do all he could to get his revenge."
"People can change Zuko. You should know this firsthand."
OoOoOoOoOoOo
"How did it go?" Aang asked when we all climbed the ladder to the treehouse.
"Did you kick his ass Korra?" Toph asked hopefully.
"No, unfortunately for me, but fortunately for him," Korra frowned.
"You ok Zuko?" Asami asked worriedly.
"Just fine." His arms were crossed and he leaned against the wall of the treehouse.
James gave me a quizzical look.
I'll tell you later, I mouthed to him.
He nodded.
"What did he say?" Katara inquired.
"He said my great-great-grandma was an earthbender from Ba Sing Se, but she wanted to move here because the Avatar Universe is tiring. Ozai said that is was a hazardous thing she did, and if everyone over there learns about here, then we're all screwed," I explained.
"He never said screwed Kaya," Zuko rolled his eyes.
"Can it Hot-Head. I can say what I want, how I want, and when I want to say it."
Zuko glared at me so I glowered at him right back.
"Fight, fight, fight, fight!" Korra cheered enthusiastically.
"Don't give Toph any ideas Korra," Mako scolded her.
Korra sulked.
"So what know?" Bolin asked.
"Sokka?" James looked at the teen.
"Gather 'round Team Avatar," he grinned, "Man I love saying that."
We laughed. Except Zuko. Yeah, Hot-Head's a jerk.
OoOoOoOoOoOo
Sorry about the long wait guys! I had to make sure that it all made sense.
As you may have caught, although idk if you noticed, but there was some slight Kaya-Zuko action before the "Confrontation of the Loser Lord." Will there be? Or will neither one ever get along?
