Chapter 6

It didn't take very long for Kirito to give the tour of the large house, some people would class the house as a mansion, but its just a old western style 2 story house. " Your home is very beautiful Kirito" Spoke the younger Taniyama, the boy turned to her smiling and bowed his head.

"thank you, the home originally belonged to my biological parents, but my mother was killed as I was just a child and my father ran out on me. So I was placed in a foster home until I was given this house on my 18th birthday. That was a month ago but lately the paranormal activity in it seems to be acting up ever since I started living here." spoke the older boy.

" You mentioned that a few of the house maids had disappeared, do you know if they was just spooked and decided to up and leave?" asked Naru he thought if the boy was answering questions it wouldn't hurt to throw in a few. " that would be impossible because if they did up and leave then they would have taken all their belongings with them. Its hard to say for sure on what happened but one day they are there doing their daily routine, then the next day I asked a few questions and some of them said they seen the Maids walk out of there sleeping quarters and just disappear."

Mai placed a finger to her chin, something seemed a little odd about this case, why was it just the Maids? " Was there any males that went missing or was it just the females?" asked Mai, they all turned to her not expecting that type of question to come out of the young still in training paranormal investigator. 'she's getting better every day' Naru thought.

" As far as I can tell it seems to be just the females, but I do know this, the strange things happening around this house began when the news about that Ryo Hishiro escaping from prison. It's like the spirit knows him and is connected to it." this caused Mai to become more interested but at the same time scared about the case. " I see, thank you, if we have any more questions for you we will come and ask. As of right now everyone start bringing in the equipment, Ayako and Masako please start doing a walk through, and Mai"

Mai sighed waving her hands up in the air " Yes yes, Tea I know. Kirito if you don't mind could you show me the way to the kitchen?" the boy smiled and nodded, " I would love to. But you do know I could always ask one of the maids to get you some Tea" Shaking her head Mai smiled to him " My boss for some reason only wants the tea I make, I haven't a clue why. But all I know is he is a large tea addict." with that the two began walking out of the base.

Naru looked over to Asuna " so how are you and Kirito connected?" " when I ran away from home we both went into the same orphanage, so once he started explaining about the strange occurrences that's been happening within his home, I remembered that you was a specialist in this sort of work." Naru nodded understanding. Main reason he took this cause was to try and figure out the past of the girl he was beginning to fall in love with.

On the way to the kitchen Mai was cautious she also kept looking over the boy, he was handsom that was for sure, but there was something about his eye's, they reminded her of someone she knew. Although Kirito's was gentle there was something also scary about them. " so you're an ghost hunter. That's a pretty cool job being able to talk to spirits" Mai shrugged " yeah it is intresting I've always loved telling ghost stories, and some how I landed myself into the job. My mother was a forensic scientist so I also wanted to go into that line of work as well. To put people away that deserve to be placed in jail for a long time."

He nodded understanding, " I wouldn't mind that job either, from what I've heard, the person that killed my mother is still out roaming the streets, its all thanks to him my life became the way it was not knowing who I really am." Mai looked to the poor boy not knowing who he was or who his mother was. " don't get me wrong, the people who adopted me was kind and loving but you just sometimes have to wonder what your biological parents would have been like."

" I can understand you there. Do you…. Know how she died?" the boy opened the door to the kitchen and nodded " Yeah, apparently it was a week after I was born. My father went into my mothers hospital room and strangled her to death. Just as the nurse was walking in he didn't kill her completely but left her with a collapsed thoat, she didn't survive long enough for them to operate and help her. She died 5 minutes after it happened. The man that did it got away"

That was it, that's why the boy seemed familiar but it couldn't be? This boy couldn't be the one from her dreams could it? " I see, that's awful." Mai filled the kettle up placing it on the stove while bringing out 9 cups and placed a tea bag in each one. " I understand losing your mother to someone you thought was your father. My mother died when I was 13, she protected me as my father viscously stabbed her multiple times in the chest. I witnested it all… " Kirito placed a hand on the girls shoulder.

" now that's more awful than mine. I've never witnessed a murder before. It must be still playing on your mind now," Mai nodded.

The rest of the day went smoothly, they had set up the camera's night vision equipment. Also making sure that they had taken tempurature readings of all rooms especially the ones that held most paranormal activity. Everyone was mainly doing their own things until a maid came in " Dinner's ready, could you all please make your way down to the dining hall?"

Standing up and stretching Ayako looked to everyone especially Mai, she had been sat listening to the monitors while studying for her exams. Walking over and taking her books off her. " Come on, you too Naru and Lin dinner" Mai tried getting her books back " but just one more page!" Ayako stood arms crossed " Dinner now!" standing up and obeying her foster mother she made her way down to the dining room along with everyone else.

On the way down she looked up and noticed no one was in the hallway, it was a little creepy, looking down it seemed to stretch on and on. Not only that she began to see her own breath. " Wait… that can only happen when…" her eye's widened as she turned around there coming face to face with a black figure hair messy, the eye's looked souless and the strange markings around her neck.

" oh…shit.." was all Mai could say before the spirit launched at her flying her into a wall making her let out a large scream.

Around the corner everyone was laughing and joking making their way to the dining hall until they realised Mai wasn't with them. Turning around Monk was the first one to notice " don't tell me she's gone looking for them stud-" he was cut off by a loud scream. All their attention turned to knowing who it was running towards the source of it, they saw a black figure holding Mai up by the throat. Mai was trying to claw the thing from around her throat but it wasn't working, her nails was going straight threw it ending up scratching her own throat.

Monk straight away began chanting, the spirit looked to him and began fading away, making the lights flash on and off. Asuna straight away ran up to her sister as she dropped to the floor hard, she noticed Mai shaking madly. " It's ok, its gone now." Mai shook her head as she pointed towards the wall.

It read in large blood print , ' ALL TANIYAMA MEMBERS WILL DIE!'

Asuna looked to her and then to the SPR Team " What does this mean?" Naru went and wipped his finger on the wall, the blood was fresh. " it means both you and Mai should not be left alone. NEVER! At all times!"

So the spirit is after the Taniyama children, has Mai placed the facts together about Kirito yet? Will Gene ever show up in this case? Does Asuna have any powers?
