Summary: What if Hawke went to Tevinter instead of Kirkwall? What if he became a powerful magister without ever resorting to blood magic? What if he met Danarius and thus Fenris as well? How would things have turned out for them? Read and find out. AU, to the best of my abilities. Hawke x Fenris.

Warnings: Rated M for strong language and some adult themes for the later chapters. There will also be some OOC, mostly from Fenris.

Disclaimer: I own nothing except my OC's! If I did, the world would end. Flames will be used to burn the corpses of Danarius and Hadriana… or cook marshmallows for s'mores. Either one I fill the need to burn. Creative criticism is accepted.

Chapter 6: The First Day

Kilian was happy to see the red head again after a year of being in the Tevinter Imperium. He was glad to see she was holding up alright and he was even more pleased to hear that she may ask him to help her with her guard duties if she needs him. He missed fighting for a reason since arriving in Tevinter and he was starting to slack off on his training.

"It is good to see you again Hawke. Your monthly letters have kept me at ease about you being surrounded by other mages who are known for making deals freely with demons." Aveline states, putting her hand on the mages shoulder.

"Well I do have a reason to resist a demon's temptations." Kilian replies in a mildly snarky tone, getting a small arm punch from the woman. Both of them just laughed and started chatting again about other things that have been going on in their lives. They were so wrapped up in their conversation that they did not hear footsteps approaching until a voice spoke up.

"Hey Aveline. Got any… jobs… Kilian?" The voice asked, startled at seeing the man in question. Both parties looked up to see a dark skinned young man in his late teens to early twenties; his hair cut short, almost to make him look a bit like a boy scout. His dark brown eyes stared in shock at Kilian, whose own silver eyes widened in shock.

"Carver…" Kilian muttered, staring at his kid brother before breaking out into a smile and hugs him. "Carver! It's great to see you again!"

Carver was stiff as a board when his brother hugged him, not sure if the man was real or not. For a year, he and their mother did not open his letters that he sent, nor did they use the money he sent to them as well, letting it pile up. It wasn't until recently did they finally open the letters and read all that his brother had wrote to them over the past year. He felt even more inferior than before when he read that his brother was named a magister in Tevinter and he was still being denied becoming a city guard. Swallowing his pride and anger down, he tentatively wrapped his arms around his brother and reciprocated the hug.

Kilian pulled back and looked at his younger brother's face, his face feeling like it was splitting from his wide smile. Carver smiled only slightly at Kilian, wondering what the mages motives were and figure out why he was there in Kirkwall when it was obvious that mages were never truly welcomed in the Free Marches.

"It has been a long time, Carver. How have you been?" Kilian asks, seeming to not notice his brother's distant behavior or if he had, he didn't see to care.

"I have been… alright. What are you doing here, Kilian?" Carver asked.

"Well, I decided that it was time for me to visit my brother and mother after a year of being apart from them." He answered simply, earning him a stare of disbelief from his younger sibling. Both young men knew that, that couldn't have been the only reason. Deciding to just let it drop for now, Carver decided to turn his attention to Aveline, who was watching Fenris just a few feet away from Kilian.

"So, Aveline. Got any jobs you need help with?" Carver asked the guards woman, getting her attention.

"Not right now, no." She replied, seeing the slight dejected look on his face. "But you could do a favor for the guards by showing your brother around Kirkwall. He is a guest of the city."

Fenris watched from the sidelines how Kilian and the younger man, Carver, were interacting and saw the tension between them. He swore that any lesser man passing by them would have collapsed from the sheer force of it. He was knocked out of his thoughts when he heard the younger Hawke talking to the red headed guard woman. Looking at them again, he noted that the boy's features became more soured than before. Deciding he was tired of being ignored, Fenris walked up and stood next to Kilian, clearing his throat slightly to get his attention.

Kilian looked to his side to see Fenris standing there and mentally slapped himself for his rudeness on not introducing the elf to his friend and little brother. Smiling at the elf, Kilian turned and looked back at the two sword wielders.

"Carver, Aveline. I have someone I wish you to meet." Kilian announced, getting both of their attention as he gestured to Fenris. "This is Fenris. Fenris, this is Aveline Vallen and my little brother Carver."

"Nice to meet you both." Fenris greeted, shaking hands with both humans.

"It is nice to meet you as well, Fenris." Aveline states in a friendly manner.

"Yeah. Same." Carver responds.

After that, Carver decided to do the "favor" for the guards and show Kilian and Fenris around. He took them to look around Hightown where shops were set up. He showed them where the Chantry was along with the Merchants Guild, where they met a smooth talking dwarven male named Varric Tethras. Carver then took them down to Lowtown where he and their mother live with their uncle. Kilian said that he wished to put off seeing their mother for a while, as it was only a few hours ago that his ship had arrived and he just wished to explore some more before meeting with his mother again.

Carver didn't answer to that and continued to show Kilian around, eventually stopping at the Hanged Man, one of the few bars in Kirkwall that had affordable alcohol.

Kilian wasn't sure what to think about the bar, as he never visited one before, not even when he was in Lothering. Personally, he found visiting such places to be just a bit unsanitary but he knew that sometimes Fenris would like to drink every now and again and when he was getting thirsty, Kilian had asked Carver to direct them to the nearest bar and this was the result. Before they sat down, a fight between three men and a woman about something.

Kilian has never seen the woman before but she was lovely to say the least. Dark tan skin with wavy dark brown hair held back by a blue bandana and she war a short and revealing white dress. On her left shoulder was some sort of light armor with a plate of metal on her shoulder and leather strappings covering the rest of her arm. She ware thigh high boots and around her hip was a blue sash. In her each of her hands was a dagger, indicating she was a rogue or at least trained in a way of fighting similar to it.

Obviously the woman was the winner and all three men ran out like cowards. Kilian noted that he wasn't the only one staring as when he was knocked out of his trance, he looked and saw Carver nearly drooling over the woman.

"Down, dear brother. She seems a bit out of your league." Kilian states, smirking when he saw his brother blush and scowl at him. Chuckling he walked to the bar with Fenris and Carver in tow. Catching the eye of the woman, Kilian smiles a bit at her.

"Careful now. If you don't want to end up like those men who left, then you better watch yourself here." The woman states in a sort of flirty manner, eyeing Kilian from head to toe.

"Know from experience?" He remarks in the same tone, not knowing that Fenris was slightly glaring at him.

"After a few broken bones, they understood." The woman chuckled, liking the older Hawke and pushed herself into a straighter standing position and faced the mage. "I am Isabella. Formerly Captain Isabella, but without my ship, the title rings a bit hallow."

"Nice to meet you. I am Kilian Hawke." Kilian introduced, taking her hand and kissing it lightly. "With me is my younger brother, Carver and friend Fenris."

Carver made himself known by shoving his brother out of the way and bowing to Isabella, making her chuckle a bit at his antics. The younger Hawke didn't want to be outshined by his older brother so when he stood up, he tried to put on a charming smile. "A pleasure to meet you, miss. I am Carver Hawke." He greeted.

"Oh how cute. He is like a little puppy." Isabela cooed before turning back to Kilian and Fenris. "Do you gentlemen wish to join me for a drink?" She asked, smiling.

Both men decided to take a seat next to her and join her for drinks, Carver feeling dejected that she thought of him as only a puppy. When would things begin to go his way and he be in the spotlight like his older brother? It just wasn't…fair. Maybe, if he tried something drastic, then people would begin to notice him and not only think of him as Kilian Hawke's younger brother. Hopefully, with a bit of planning, it would work.

Goddamnit I hate writers block! Sorry it took so long for me to write this guys. I know that it is a very crappy chapter, but I have been busy. I had just gotten Dragon Age Inquisition last year and had planned on playing it but couldn't get my Xbox 360 to play it and I don't know if it is the game itself or my station. Not to mention trying to keep up with school. I should have new inspiration for this soon enough and I am sorry for the long as hell delay. Thank you all for your patience.
