AU, Sookie isn't a faerie in this fic and they don't play a big part in this either. No Bill for now. No Nora and possibly no Lorena. They're just unnecessary characters in this fic. The focus will be on Sookie and Eric.

I do not own SVM or True Blood.

"It's good to see you little sister."

Sookie watched as her sister Mist slowly appeared as though a haze had lifted from her. Mist had always been one of the most beautiful of the Valkyrie. With her flowing red hair and porcelain skin, Sookie could almost forget she was also one of the oldest and strongest of them though she looked to be the same age as her. They were separated by a few feet, in a white void which slowly turned into a forest setting.

"Mist. Why are you here? What happened?"

Her sister chuckled, most likely at Sookie's confusion. "You fell down a flight of stairs at that human church. To be knocked out by a human male." Mist shook her head at Sookie as one would shake their head at a child playing with markers and getting the ink everywhere.

It was then that she remembered the day's events. Meeting Hugo and going to the Fellowship of the Sun only to be led to a trap. White hot anger coursed through her. She'd read their thoughts, felt their hatred towards vampires and heard what they planned to do to Godric, to her friend. When she tried to fight the bald one, Gabe, she bumped her head on the wall of the narrow corridor and had apparently fallen. It meant she was unconscious. She only hoped Hugo's bond would alert the vampires.

"Have I shamed you?" Sookie asked. Mist was one of the few who supported her in her desire to become human. As the youngest, Sookie always believed she had to live up to expectations, especially towards the Valkyrie who trained her and led her into battle. Of the thousands of Valkyrie, Sookie never commanded respect or reverence, only a gentle hand in all things. Well, as gentle as female warriors could be.

Mist sauntered closer to her, still as beguiling as ever. She cupped her cheek and moved some of Sookie's hair from her shoulder. "You could never shame us Sanngriðr. You will always be our little sister." Sookie couldn't help but smile at the reassurance. "But…many of us are wary of your continued association with the blood drinkers. Especially Erikr. We know you were…fond of him but that was centuries ago. He is different than he was then. I'm sure you've sensed the change as well. Not even he prays to Woden and Freya anymore."

"This is just temporary. To find Godric." Her sisters were still very prejudiced and Sookie knew that their concern was for her safety but it made her feel like an invalid or a child.

"Yes, your vampire is with the humans. But you must stay away from them. Nothing good will come from your association with them. They're savage, brutal creatures with more blood thirst than sense. They will rip you to shreds dear sister. Especially now that you're…mortal." Mist, though intending well made her current situation seem like a disease she had contracted. Mortal. Dying of every second of every day rather than immortal, never changing. Sookie knew that the vampires were capable of savagery and that many of them wanted nothing more than to kill but Eric and Godric were different. Especially Godric, who had changed so drastically that Sookie barely believed he was the same person who slaughtered thousands of humans during his time undead.

"I can take care of myself." She seemed disbelieving of her statement which would have made her annoyed, had it not been a usual occurrence. All other Valkyries had something special to their name. Speed, agility, ruthlessness, cunning, wit, strategy, foresight, all except Sookie it seemed. Sometimes she thought she was created with a defect. "But I agree, after I help Godric, I will stay away from them and do what I came here to do." Sookie continued, understanding that they were once again, only looking out for her.

Mist stopped fiddling with Sookie's hair and held her shoulders. "I can't bear to see you grow old. A Valkyrie's death is pain enough but to see you wither away and age. Many of us still await your return and a return of your senses." As if she were some petulant child who had moved out. Did they all think she would give up her endeavors or become disillusioned with the mortal life she was living? It hurt to think that her sisters would think so little of her.

Sookie became quiet for a moment, not knowing how to phrase her next question or whether she should pose the question at all. Eventually Mist's expectant gaze and her curiosity got the better of her. "Do you think we have fates?" It wasn't a question on whether there was such a thing as fate but whether their father had determined their fates.

Mist seemed surprised and a little alarmed by her question. It wasn't easy surprising a 3,000 year old being. "Woden doesn't burden us with such things." Unclear as to what she meant, Sookie parted her lips but was interrupted by her sister. "They have fates, Sanngriðr. They are burdened from the beginning of their existence with the knowledge that they will one day die. We were created by our father to fulfill a duty. Why would he determine an end to that? We are not burdened by such things. Even your vampires will one day perish."

Sookie could only nod slightly, showing that she understood. But inside, she was crestfallen and almost smiled at the care Mist gave her.

"We tried to keep you from seeing it, his death." Surprised, she looked at her sister.

"What do you mean?"

"We knew he would fall during that battle. It was why we called on you."

"But…father." Sookie stopped. They had planned for it to happen but didn't foresee Godric. It was unlike them to try and protect her.

"We all knew you were infatuated with him and we only wanted to spare you from it."

"I was infatuated. In many ways, I guess I still am." Sookie had a far off look on her face, remembering the dream she had had of him. It was more than just his human life that attracted her to him. "He will always be that glorious Viking who defied everything, even death itself to avenge his family. How can I not respect that Mist?" It was a rhetorical question. "How can I not love him for it?"

"Oh, dear sweet sister." Mist kissed her forehead, an unprecedented show of affection from the powerful being. "A parting gift. As I fear we won't see each other again for some time." And with that worrying statement Mist disappeared, evaporating seamlessly.

Sookie awoke to a stifling heat. She quickly took stock of her surroundings, noting boxes on the shelves next to the walls and bars on two sides, effectively caging her and Hugo, the latter who seemed worse for wear. They were both slick with sweat and she didn't know how much time had passed.

"You're up." He commented. He was seated, leaning on the bars. Sookie got up to a sitting position and felt the bump on the right side of her head.

"How long have I been out?" She asked as she eyed the door only a few feet from the cage.

"A few hours. I tried yelling but I don't think anyone cares or can hear me." Sookie stood up, unable to sit still while locked up. Valkyries were never caged, no bars could hold them but she wasn't Valkyrie.

"Why haven't reinforcements come for us?" She paced the length of the cage, obviously upsetting Hugo. "Are you alright?"

"You're making me claustrophobic. Could ya sit down?" She stilled and inwardly sighed. She had to share a cage with this man? Godric definitely would owe her one. As if remembering her friend, she yelled for him.

"I'm in the basement. If you can hear me, get your ass down here so we can leave! Godric!" If he was silvered, not even he could get out of his binds. At least, that's what she thought. He was strong from his age and experience, it was possible he would be strong enough to break free of even silver. After a few tense seconds, there was no change or stirring that she could sense. She walked over to the bars and tested them for weaknesses but there was nothing her mortal body could do.

She started looking in boxes to see if they contained anything that would help but they were mostly pamphlets and flyers about The Fellowship and their hate towards vampires.

Disheartened, she took a seat on the other side of the cage and looked at Hugo wearily. Eric and Isabel would soon know something was wrong when they didn't return to the nest. Surely they would storm in by tomorrow night at the latest. She only hoped nothing would happen to Godric until then.

"You have got to be joking me. This is the Fellowship of the Sun? That's their army? Scared little boys with bibles and crossbows." Eric mocked the humans, watching from a hill with Isabel. Men guarded the entrances, but a vampire could easily rush past them and have them all dead on the ground before they could get a shot off.

"Don't underestimate them. Support for their movement is growing. Their leadership camps are overflowing with self-righteous extremists all willing and ready to die for their cause" Isabel warned but Eric couldn't take them seriously. Not when they looked like green little boys at their first fight.

"Hmm. That can be arranged quite easily." If they had Godric, nothing could save them from Eric's wrath.

"Not until we know for sure The Fellowship has Godric."

"What about your boy, Hugo? And Sookie? They've been in there too long." Sookie had been fairly calm and then had become furious around sunset. Her fierce emotion had woken him and he had thought something was wrong but then, there was nothing. She wasn't in any danger that he could sense and the anger could be about anything. The female was a spitfire after all.

"There's no sign of alarm. And if Hugo were in serious danger, I would know it. I felt something earlier but it passed. He's okay now. Anything from Sookie?" Eric merely shook his head but it was reassuring that Isabel's human appeared to be fine.

"Tell me, what is it that you find so fulfilling about human companionship?" He looked down at the shorter vampire and asked the question that had been plaguing him all day.

"They feel much more strongly than we do. Everything is urgent. Exciting. Maybe because their lives are so temporary." He thought of Sookie and could agree with Isabel. He suspected she wanted to ask about his interest in his human but he wouldn't have been able to explain his attraction to her.

"Yes, they certainly don't keep well." Isabel scoffed. "Do you find the prospect of him growing old, sickly, crippled somewhat repulsive?"

"No, I find it curious. Like a science project." He mulled it over, trying to imagine Sookie growing old or sickly. He didn't think he could bear such a sight. Not because it repulsed him but because it would be a waste of what she was. She wasn't meant to be anything less than the beguiling beauty who stood up to anyone and everyone. Sookie had a light within her so alluring that he couldn't imagine it dimmed. No human could compare to her and certainly not any vampire.

"Do you really believe these fools could overpower a vampire such as Godric? Hold him for weeks?"

"Stan is sure of it. But I have known Godric for a long time. It's hard to imagine anything could overpower him."

"Not anything human." They would have to be cautious. Even though Eric longed to charge in, he knew from experience that information was imperative and right now, they had none. They didn't even know who was betraying Godric. After a few tense hours and no sign of Sookie and Hugo, they retired back to Camilla. He briefly wondered if he should order some blood but decided against it, going out of his mind with worry for both Godric and Sookie.

1048

Over a hundred years since Erikr turned into a vampire. Sanngriðr and spent the days trying desperately to fill the void she felt. First it was grief from the loss that she felt with Erikr dead. But that small ache had grown. There wasn't much she looked forward to. All warriors were compared to and didn't even come close to the Viking she had lost.

Bitterness crept into her heart. Every mortal she listened to and watched were lacking in one way or another. They were too stupid, too weak, too arrogant, or too foolhardy. But mostly their motivations were what bothered her most. None of them were noble in heart. They weren't fighting for something, they were just fighting. While that was all good and well for Valhalla, it wasn't enough for her.

With a sigh at the scene she was watching, Sanngriðr landed in a brilliant streak of lighting. Within a blink, she had the two vampires beheaded and stepped back so she wouldn't be sullied by their deaths. The vampire who had just been running from them stopped and turned to her in shock. Sanngriðr calmly sheathed her sword and stepped over the blood.

Dressed in armor, and with her hair swaying in the brisk winter breeze, she looked every bit a shield maiden and she knew it.

"Godric." She addressed him, not wanting to actually greet the vampire.

"Sanngriðr. How did you know I was here?" They were in France, she could tell by the architecture and the scent. With a disinterested expression, she simply surveyed him and his haphazard appearance.

"I was watching. Why were they chasing you?"

His fangs receded as he spoke, something that intrigued her as it meant he didn't view her as a threat. "They were trying to kill me for killing my maker." Another surprise as Sanngriðr knew that maker and progeny shared a bond. It wouldn't have been easy to overpower an older vampire.

"You have to suppress your more violent tendencies." Sanngriðr chastised. She guessed Erikr was off somewhere, probably feeding or sleeping with a female. But she hadn't been watching long to know for sure. Sanngriðr purposely never directly watched Eric, for fear of what he had or would become but she would periodically check on the pair.

"I'm over a thousand years old. I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself." She should have known Godric would also be older than her. How aggravating that he should be so barbaric when he was a millennia old. It was unsightly.

"You've lost all of your humanity." She had seen it in the way that he fought and killed humans. Brutal and efficient. It was unnerving and Sanngriðr could see that there were times where he enjoyed the act.

"I am no longer human."

"But you were once. And sooner or later, you'll see how savage you were and you will regret it." After hundreds of years on the battlefield, she knew how true those words were. She had seen weaker men and even the strongest of men go mad after battle, after war. They would experience a high like no other, proud in their victory but after they returned to a semblance of civilization, they were destroyed by the monster they were forced to become in order to survive. They would be ill equipped to handle living. She feared it would be the same for Godric if he continued on the path that he was on.

"Why do you care?" He asked the question, not to be rude but from genuine curiosity.

Sanngriðr thought about the question for a moment. Wondering that herself. She looked up at the sky and then back to him, smiling sadly. "Perhaps it's because you are with the one person I will always yearn for but will never have beside me." With that she left him, back in Valhalla in a flash of light.

While Hugo slept, Sookie spent her time looking for a way out. There were no windows and only one door but she doubted anyone was really standing guard. All she really needed to do was get through the fence. There had to be something around them that could help but nothing was sturdy enough to ply the chain link fence open. Their captors had only checked in on them once when the sun came up and had given them water and some bread.

There wasn't anything she and Hugo could tell them that the informant hadn't already told them. Sookie tried to keep Hugo from spilling anything more but he was too distraught to listen. In the end Steve and Gabe kept them in the cell and determined that they were a liability if let loose. They planned on keeping them hostage until the next morning when they burned Godric at sunrise.

She had tried reasoning with Steve Newlin but it had been pointless. The man truly believed everything he said and preached. Which meant he was willing to die for what he believed in.

When night fell, Sookie planned on calling for Eric. If they hoped to save Godric, calling Eric was their only hope. Her brows furrowed. Why hadn't Isabel come when Hugo was having his panic attack? He was visibly distraught at the thought of being confined in the cage and he was all but hyperventilating at times. Sookie's eyes focused on the man sleeping a few feet from her.

His defenses down, she delved into his mind. It didn't take long for the memories to flood her. The one who betrayed Godric and the others was Hugo. She stalked over to him and kicked his leg to wake him up.

"It was you." She accused. "You were the one who told The Fellowship about me. You were the one who told them we were coming. Why? Why did you do it?" Her voice was calm, her eyes pinning him down as he fully awoke and realized what she was talking about. She gave him the opportunity to compose himself and sit up. She didn't think she could be next to him and refrain from striking him so she took a seat as far away as possible.

"I used to be just like you. Thought I was a real emancipated thinker. Especially when Isabel took me to bed." He inhaled, "the sex was…amazing. The best I ever—well, you know." She didn't. "It's addictive isn't it? To be desired by something that powerful?" He made it seem like the vampires were some sort of drug.

She didn't answer and when it was clear she wasn't going to say anything, he continued. "Well, I guess you wouldn't know how your life changes to suit them. You start missing work, can't get up in the morning, and can't stand to leave them after dark. Before you know it, you're not even someone you can recognize."

"You're just weak." It came out crueler than she had intended. "You blame them, you blame Isabel because you couldn't control yourself? You lost your independence so you thought you could get it back by going to The Fellowship? Is that it?" She looked at him like a bug. Dishonorable and pathetic.

"I begged her to turn me. It was the only way to be together as equals. You see, they don't want us to be equals." He sighed in exasperation.

"You will never be their equal, Hugo. Don't you get it? Even if Isabel turned you, you would be her progeny. You would be like a child to her. She would own you." They would have a stronger bond but the maker would have the upper hand in all aspects. It would, in some ways be a more unequal relationship than a human and vampire. The maker would be able to command the progeny to do whatever they wished.

"No, she's just been using me. The same way Eric's been using you."

She bristled at the comparison. As if she was anything like him. And as if Eric was anything like Isabel. "I'm helping him find Godric."

Hugo scoffed. "I know he and his friends are having you do their dirty work. I mean a telepath's gotta be a real trophy for a vampire."

"I volunteered. Don't speak like that again." She didn't make an if-then threat. He wouldn't believe she could and would go through with it. Her fists clenched and she had to take a steadying breath to keep herself from lunging at him.

"All they care about is their own kind. That's why I joined The Fellowship."

Sookie scoffed. "If the Newlins care so much about you, how come you're still in here? Face it, they care even less about you than Isabel does. And once she and Godric find out what you've done, you'll be dead. You'd better hope they get to you before Eric does because if anything happens to Godric, and you're responsible, he'll make sure you feel every second of dying." Her eyes grew dark.

"Gabe?!" Hugo stood up and walked briskly to the door of the cage. "Gabe! She knows everything. You can let me out now." His fingers curled around the links and he shook the fence. "Hey! Anybody. Come on! Let me out!" He slapped his hand on the fence in anger when the door didn't open and there was no sound coming from outside.

"You'd better pray nothing happens to Godric." With those words, she waited patiently for the sun to set, trying to extinguish the fury coursing through her.

Not soon enough, her inner clock told her the sun should have set. Sookie closed her eyes, trying to focus her emotions and called for Eric. "Come on you stupid Viking." But she felt nothing.

Suddenly the door opened and Gabe stepped in. Sookie and Hugo stood up, hoping to be released. "Gabe." Hugo said as he approached the door of the cage. The door shut behind Gabe and he took long steps towards them. "Listen, she knows everything which never would have happened if you hadn't kept me locked down here with a goddamned mind reader." Gabe didn't seem to have heard him and didn't acknowledge any of what Hugo was saying. Instead, he quietly unlocked the cell door as Hugo continued speaking. "I hope the reverend knows that I'm going to need protection now."

With a single punch, Gabe had Hugo on the ground. "You want protection, you fangbanging sack of shit?" Gabe asked as he kicked Hugo in the chest and then the face, sending him falling on his back. "How's that for protection? Here's a little more protection for you." Gabe grabbed the smaller man by the collar and held him up for another strike to the face. The last blow left Hugo unconscious.

Gabe turned to her and she clenched her hands. "Come with me. You're going to want to see your precious vampire burn."

Sookie held her ground. "I'm not going anywhere with you." When he stalked towards her, she grabbed the arm he held out and twisted it outwards causing him to lean forward. She kicked out at his chest, sending him stumbling backwards but it didn't bring him down.

He caught the punch she had intended to follow up with and threw her against the shelves. Her head knocked back on the metal and she groaned slightly. After backhand, she fell to the side but before she could gather herself or get up, Gabe was struggling to breathe. Godric had him by the back of his neck, a few inches off the ground.

Godric looked at her, as if to make sure she was okay.

"You ass." Sookie said as she got up and gingerly touched the bruise rapidly forming on her cheek. Seeing the mark, Godric snapped Gabe's neck.

"You should not have come."

"Normal people would say thank you." She said as she dusted herself off.

He smiled. "Then, you're welcome." Sookie's eyes narrowed.

"I wouldn't be here if you hadn't disappeared!" Her exclamation was cut short when a commotion could be heard from outside. Well, what'd you know, she thought. Sookie actually called Eric. Either that or Godric had before he came and killed Gabe. "You're going to explain to me why you didn't come when I called."

"I'm here my child. Down here." Godric's eyes were closed as he told Eric where to find him. Sookie spared a glance at Hugo who was still unconscious. Within seconds Eric was in the room and in front of his maker.

He knelt in front of him and she suddenly felt as though she were intruding on a private moment between maker and progeny. She looked away, feeling uncomfortable.

"You were a fool for sending humans after me." Godric gently chastised.

Eric had his head down while he spoke. "I had no other choice. These savages, they seek to destroy you." The proud Viking looked up at his maker.

"I'm aware of what they have planned. This one betrayed you." Godric said, motioning at Hugo.

"How long has it been since you fed?" Eric's concern for Godric showed just how much he loved the older vampire, and how deep the bond between maker and progeny was.

"I require very little blood anymore." An alarm started to go off, no doubt from Eric's intrusion.

"Take Sookie out of here." Godric ordered. "Go on."

"I am not leaving your side until-"

"I can take care of myself." Godric insisted. "Spill no blood on your way out." When still, Eric hesitated, Godric added again, "go".

After a beat, Eric took Sookie's hand and led her out, leaving Godric behind.

From the PA, they could hear Steve Newlin's voice. "Brothers and sisters, we are on lockdown. Women with children please take them to our classroom buildings. Men and able bodied women, security personnel will provide you with stakes and silver just outside the chapel. Our Soldiers of the Sun are on their way to protect our church. But safely evacuate the building now. Brothers and sisters, the hour is upon us." They could see people filing out of the church while men with stakes guided them out.

"I could have you out in seconds."

"You heard Godric, no blood." Eric looked back at her and she saw he noticed the bruise on her face. He leaned forward, inspecting it and brought a cool hand to her cheek. It was oddly comforting. She didn't flinch from the contact and instead watched him intently. Wondering what he was thinking.

"Let's lock it up!" Someone yelled from around the corner, breaking whatever spellbinding moment they had. "Keep quiet!" The voice ordered and a few seconds later, Sookie could hear the sound of doors being closed and locked.

Eric moved to expose himself. "Eric, no." She whispered.

He leaned in next to her ear and whispered, "trust me". Sookie barely contained the shudder his proximity caused. Eric easily had the three men near the door disarmed and as they scrambled away from him, she rushed over and opened the door a crack. Unfortunately there was already a small group of people marching towards them.

Remembering her tour of the church, Sookie took his hand and led him towards the sanctuary. It was deserted.

"Where's the exit?" he asked.

"Back that way," she replied.

"There are several exits actually." the unexpected voice caused them to slow to a stop. "For you, the easiest one takes you straight to Hell." Steve Newlin was in front of them, dressed in white suit. Behind them men with silver and stakes filed in and another door opened to their right and left where more people entered. They were completely surrounded.

"You vampires cast the first stone." He preached. "By killing my family. The lines have been drawn. You're either with us or against us. We are prepared for Armageddon."

"The vampire you're holding prisoner got away."

"I'm not concerned with Godric." Steve cut her off. "Any vampire will do for our grand celebration, and we got one right here." He pointed to the vampire next to her.

Sookie squeezed his hand, not willing to let him burn for a bunch of humans.

"I'll be fine." He reassured her. She had no choice but to let him go and watch as he walked up to Steve.

"Brothers and sisters. There will be a holy bonfire at dawn." The reverend laughed, genuinely happy to watch a vampire die. Eric allowed himself to be silvered to the altar, all the while groaning in pain. Sookie took a step, her face contorted in worry. But before she could take another step someone caught her arm and held her back. Another man took her other arm when she tried to strike out.

"I-I offer myself in exchange for Godric's freedom. And the girl's as well." It took some effort to speak, which only ignited her ire.

"That's noble. But she's just as culpable as you are." Steve chuckled. "She's a traitor to her race. The human race. She hardly deserves mercy." He circled Eric, taunting him. "Maybe we should tie her to you so you can meet the sun together." Sookie began struggling anew. "Well, this marshmallow would roast up nicely."

She grew still, her life in danger. When she stared at Steve in the eyes, he seemed to hesitate and then grew alarmed. Her eyes had flashed silver. Brushing the two men who held her off as though they were flies, Sookie saw the gun come up. She twisted Steve's hand until he released it and yelled in pain. "You don't know who you're threatening." She kneed him in the stomach and watched him crumple to the ground. The people around them started whispering and backed up instinctively.

Taking the silver off of Eric, she threw the chains to the side. His wounds healed within seconds. "Let's go." She said, already feeling whatever power she had dissipate as the threat had been dealt with.

Eric brushed past her and grabbed Steve Newlin by the neck and had him on the ground. His fangs still bared.

"Eric! Don't!" she yelled. If Eric killed him, the vampires and humans would have war.

"Go ahead. Martyr us. Martyr us before God. We are willing to die." Eric's hold on the man tightened. Sookie touched his arm, trying to get him to focus on her and return to his senses.

"Eric, don't do this. It's what he wants."
