The Prophet of Truth looked out over the vast and empty place that was his throne room. He relished the feeling of his station, bending the minds of others, and having his sangheili dogs lick his feet at but a command.
Having complete and total control over everything else, even his other kin, amused him to no end.
Among the thoughts of power and prestige though, came the unwanted ones, the reminder of his war with the filthy heretics called humans.
He was so close to his goal. So close to tasting his victory that he might have done backflips.
Alas, he was not quite there.
He often wondered why he hadn't sent in the fleet he prepared. Five hundred warships would ultimately decimate even the heaviest of human strongholds. The damned heretics hadn't even discovered the scouts he ordered to that military planet.
What was it called?
Ahh, Reach that is what the humans called it.
Truly it was a daunting task to try and take a planet so heavily fortified as that particular one. It was a blockade of orbiting space stations and gigantic, deadly weapons of such devastation.
Yes, truly terrifying.
To anybody but him and his Covenant that is.
Breaking out of his thoughts, he noticed a Sangheili in white armor approach his throne. He looked a bit baffled, as if he had seen physics break in front of him. Nonetheless he strode quickly to Truth's hovering seat and kneeled in respect before addressing him.
Truth sneered as the Sangheili took a few moments to state his business. His eyes were wide though, confusing even. He did not like that. It usually meant that bad news was about to be relayed. And if there was anything Truth hated more than anything, it was bad news.
He glanced around the room, taking in the soft but intimidating purple pillars. Sleek and stylish. Old yet holding a sense of modernization. Just like his gods, they were unmatched in design and so long as he existed, they would never be replaced.
He then gazed now, down at the Sangheili, patience now broken and growled out towards him.
"Are you going to stay on your knees forever?" his glare could have cracked glass.
"What is it, why are you disturbing me?" he spoke, eyes narrowed and mouth in a sneer.
The Sangheili was brought back to his senses by the words of his prophet. He opened his mouth to speak only to close it. The words that he brought to bear seemed not to be able to leave his mouth.
Although, if anyone else were to tell the prophet what he was to tell, they would find themselves in a similar position.
His bearing was shot then, and he started to babble, incoherent nonsense that his mind interpreted as clear and pronounced.
This did not please the Prophet of Truth.
He glided down from his from his station, hissing as he went. Stopping in front of the Sangheili he masked his impatience, reminding himself of the remaining usefulness that these people had at the moment. It wouldn't do to show these cretins that he held little care for their kind.
No. Pretending as he was to be the all-knowing prophet that guided the path of the entire Covenant would be needed, at least for the moment.
"Slow down child, tell me what has your mind in flux", his words were smooth and gentle this time, giving the warrior below him a sense of relief, calming him down to start relaying his message over.
The Sangheili nodded and straightened, taking a few breaths and then passing on the information he had.
"My…my Prophet, I…there is…" he really was trying to speak yet his mind was twisted by the sight he had seen. Though, if he didn't tell the Prophet no one else would and that could put him into danger. This was something the Sangheili could not allow. After a wave of fortitude washed through him, he began to speak again.
"My Prophet, there has been…an incident in the docking bay. An unknown ship somehow acquired access to the portside docking systems and proceeded to dock there. My squad was sent to see to this oddity and find the cause or eliminate the intruders." He stopped for several seconds, prompting Truth to nod in order for him to continue.
"We. My unit got there and we found…we found…" his breathing became erratic then, hyperventilating and shaking he managed to gasp out a few more words.
"Someone is here to see you my Prophet"
Not a second after the words passed from the Sangheili's mouth did Truth have to 'jump' back as a blast of black, ethereal energy passed through the Sangheili's body and turned it to a smoking husk. It resembled a man who had been struck by lightning, on a more extreme level though.
Truth, jaw slack and eyes wide in surprise and filled with not a small amount of fear, tore his eyes from the smoldering body and up towards where the blast originated from. From the shadows floated a figure, tall and imposing. Like his throne, the figure hovered a good few feet from the ground. Its features were surrounded by a long and flowing cloak. It was dark blue and seemed to glow with a radiant energy.
The figure strafed toward Truth stopping just a few feet from where he was settled. A few seconds passed and Truth gulped heavily thinking of a way out of this situation. It was clear that since no one had burst in to stop this person that his guards were all dead or unconscious.
The figure was now hovering ominously. No sound was made. No breathing was heard. The only thing Truth could sense was how fast his heart was beating and a pounding in the base of his skull.
Then, of all the things to happen, a soft giggle resonated throughout the hall. Its pitch was high and reminiscent of a human child, yet very feminine. It was seconds later that the voice spoke.
"Hmmmmm, quite an ascetically astounding room you have" the tall, floating being began, "Is it all yours"? She asked.
Truth's mind drew a blank in attempting to answer her question. Why did she care about how the room looked? He was also afraid that if he answered positively, then this creature might realize that he was indeed in charge of this station and kill him for control.
As it turned out, he needed not answer, for she continued.
"What am I saying, of course it is yours" she giggled again, "You are the Prophet of Truth after all, and such a being could not have simple tastes no"? She ended while floating toward him.
Frozen in shock, Truth did not attempt to back away. He stood stock still until the creature was a few feet in front of him, still hovering.
As she moved toward him, he could finally make out the features on the face of this being. It was very insect like, with bug eyes and a narrow mouth. The biggest clue towards its species was the antennas that hung down from her crown.
In all honesty, Truth found that she looked like an insect that his soldiers complained about on one of the human controlled planets. Wasps they were called. They would sting his soldiers relentlessly if they managed to blunder into one of their hives. Truth only knew this because some of his Sangheili were allergic to these insects and a few had even died from multiple stings. Baffling how something so small could be so deadly. And now he had a very large version floating in front of him.
His thoughts were broken by her voice as she started to speak again.
"What's the matter hmmmm, cat got your tongue"? , she ended this with another child-like giggle.
Truth didn't know what a cat was, but he figured that now would be a good a time as ever to speak up.
"Who are you"? He asked quickly, "What do you want from me"?
She stiffened as he finished. Then her voice took on a dark and icy tone.
"So disrespectful, is this how you treat all of your guests I wonder"? She said. The next sentence was not as jarring to Truth as that one had been, but still unnerving to hear all the same.
"My name dear prophet is Sectonia, Immortal God Queen of the Klepct Empire", her tone was condescending when she said his title, and it turned sickly sweet as she continued.
"And I believe that I might be able to help you with this problem that you are having with the race known as Homosapiens".
Truths mind reeled. In a split second fear was replaced by intrigue and nervousness replaced by fascination. Already he could see what even that little display of power she had shown could to do to a human. And if there were more of her, well, this war would be as good as won.
Truth put on a wicked smile and spoke in a gentle yet insidious tone.
"My apologies Immortal Queen, I have forgotten my manners. Please follow me to a more fitting chamber and we can discuss whatever it is you wish in comfort." He ended his statement with automatic opening of a door that led to his personal sanctuary and motioned her to follow.
The Immortal Queen Sectonia smiled as wide as her anatomy would allow her too.
