Aurora strolled along across campus ground, harmonizing in her high, melodious voice to the music playing in her ears. She wandered around the campus aimlessly, keeping away from the other kids as they mingled. She was quiet and shy in class and she wash't supposed to get close to anyone for her own safety. She pulled out her notebook as she sat on a bench in the courtyard and watched the birds flutter around her, singing their own little tune. She began writing the lyrics to the tune. They always seemed to come at her from nowhere at any time.

I wonder, I wonder

I wonder why each

Little bird has someone

To sing to sweet things to

A gay little love melody?

I wonder, I wonder

If my heart keeps singing

Will my song go winging

To someone who'll find me

And bring back a love song to me?

On the other side of the courtyard, a tall, brown-haired boy named Philip was walking along with his dog, Samson. The large black and white Karelian Bear Dog was hooked up to a lead and was leading his blind owner through the crowds. Philip was wearing brown jeans, with dark brown pants, a black long-sleeve turtle neck and a red trench coat. Perched on his head was his favorite red beanie. As they passed the courtyard area he stopped dead in the middle of the crowd, his sensitive ears picking up the angelic voice that flowed through the air and mesmerized him.

"You hear that Samson?" he said and turned his head, trying to locate the sound. "Beautiful."

Samson snorted and pulled on his lead, trying to pull Philip towards his first class. Philip stumbled forward a little and pulled on the lead, trying to stop the stubborn dog.

"What is it?" he murmured, "C'mon let's find out." he started walking in the direction of the singing but Samson let out a bark and pulled him towards the building.

"Aw C'mon…" he leaned down and patted Samson's head. "For an extra doggy treat?" he leaned in conspiratorially, "And a little bit of…peanut butter?"

Samson perked up immediately and nudged Philip to his feet before pulling him eagerly in the direction of the voice. He was weaving quickly through the crowds of people, dragging along philip who was stumbling and laughing happily. "Good Boy!"

He stopped and sniffed around before continuing on his mission. He was so focused that he forgot that his master could not see. So when he jumped over someone's skateboard, Philip lost his grip on the lead, tripped and fell into a big puddle.

Samson froze and nervously walked over to his master. He padded over to where Philip was sitting and picked up his master's red beanie with his teeth. Philip felt around for him and pulled the beanie from his mouth. He shoved it on over his brown hair and glared at where he felt Samson was.

"No peanut butter."

With Samson's help, he rose to his feet and the pair trudged to class, a scowl permanantely plastered to Philip's face. And to make everything worse, the singing had stopped by then.

She finished the lyrics with a flourish of her pen. She sighed as she looked down at the lyrics and closed her notebook, "Oh dear…" she sighed in her soft voice and looked at the birds, "Why do they still treat me like a child?"

The birds twittered as if they were answering her and, lonely as she was, Aurora began to talk to them as they landed around her. "Aunt Flora and Fauna and Merryweather." she reached in her bag and pulled out some bread that she began spreading on the ground for the birds.

"They never want me to meet anyone." she said wistfully as she looked around at the other students. They were all in groups, laughing and talking, and well, looking a whole lot happier than Aurora was.

Suddenly she giggled and leaned back on the bench as she looked off into the distance dreamily.

"But you know what? I fooled them." she gave the birds a conspiritorial wink and sighed happily. "I have met someone."

The birds started twittering loudly as the first bell rang. Aurora gathered her things and began walking away. It was then she noticed that the birds were following her. She let out a soft laugh and turned back to them, "You want to know who?" she took a step backwards, "It's a guy."

She gave alittle twirl and began describing the man from her dreams.

"He's tall and handsome, and…and so romantic." she gave a long sigh and put her hands to her heart.

"We walked together and talked together." she began walking slowly towards the main building once more. She reached the bottom of the steps and turned to the animals, "And just before we say goodbye he takes me in his arms and then…." she wilted and the birds seemed to sense her distress. "I wake up." she hugged herself and began walking up the steps.

"Yes. It's only in my dreams, but I've been doing some research and they say if you dream about something more than once there is some truth in it." She kneeled down by the birds and patted their stood and began wandering inside, "And I've seen him so many times."

Aurora entered the building and ambled along to class, humming softly. She plopped into her seat just in time, and the final bell rang out.

At the front of the classroom, Philip was wiping himself off, talking to Samson.

"You know Samson, there was something about that voice, too beautiful to be real." he wrung out his beanie and put it on his desk to dry. He could already feel the heat of the room drying his clothes. His first class of the day was biology lab, a class that was made difficult by his inability to see. His partner would have to do all of the work. They split into groups and he was put next to a girl. Samson led him to his seat and he turned to the other seat that the girl occupied.

"Uh hello." there was no response.

Aurora was staring at the chalk board with a dreamy look on her face, her dream playing out in her mind.

She was in a forest, surrounded by animals when suddenly the boy appeared and held out his hand. She took it and smiled playfully. "You know I'm not supposed to speak to strangers, but we've met before. And then she began singing in her melodious voice as they danced.

I know you,

I walked with you once upon a dream

I know you,

The gleam in your eyes is so familiar a gleam

And I know its true

That visions are seldom all they seem

But if i know you

I know what you'll do

You'll love me at once, the way you did once upon a dream.

What Aurora didn't know was that she was singing the words softly as she stared at the chalkboard.

Philip couldn't belive his luck. He had found the owner of the amazing voice! Decided now was the time to get her attention he chimed in with the last verse. His rich, deep voice broke her from her trance and she gaped at him. Hearing that she had stopped singing, Philip finished the line and smiled charmingly at her.

"Oh…oh." she gasped, embarrassment heavy in her voice.

"I'm awfully sorry." he felt around for her hand and clasped it in his own. "I didn't mean to frighten you."

Aurora turned bright red and tried to pull away, but he caught her hand.

"Oh it wasn't that it's just that you're uh…uh…" she nervously tucked her hair back and fumbled with her bag, one hand still captured by the handsome boy sitting next to her.

"A stranger?" he chuckled and Aurora nodded, making an affirmative noise. "But don't you remember? We've met before."

Baffled, Aurora looked him over. She would definitely remember a boy like this. "W-We have?" she asked, flustered.

"You said so yourself, once upon a dream." he smiled and finally released her hand as he felt around his backpack for his supplies.

He pulled them out, humming the tune of the song that she had been singing just moments ago.

Aurora stared at him and throughout the experiment she continued to marvel at his grace despite his lack of sight. They talked quietly as the experiment progressed. Aurora had leaned down to look through the microscope lens when she felt him lean down by her.

"Who are you? What's your name?" he whispered in his ear, his warm breath giving her goosebumps.

"Hm?" she asked, distracted by the touch of his hand on her lower back. "Oh my name…" she turned off the microscope as the class period came to an end, "Why it's…it's" Suddenly all of the warning that her godmother's had given her came flooding into her head.

"Oh! No no I can't I-" she was cut off by the bell. She hurriedly gathered her things as he tried to do the same, dashing out of the classroom.

"Goodbye." she called as she sped away. Philip grabbed Samson and ran into the hall, calling after her.

"But when will I see you again?" Aurora turned back, and the heartbroken, desperate look on his face hit her hard, but her fear hit her harder. "Oh never! never!" she turned and walked faster as he tried to keep up.

"Never?!" he sped up and she turned back to him.

"Oh, well, maybe someday!" she hurried through the halls with hima nd Samson hot on her heels.

"When? Tomorrow?" he persisted.

"Oh! No! A few days from now, on the botanical gardens trip." she called as she rushed around thecorner and out of sight. Philip stopped in the middle of the hall and stared after her, dazed.

Then he turned, and after looking back a couple of times, he and Samson made their way to his Law class.
