Well here it is! Chapter 4! I haven't done an update this soon in ages! I hope you enjoy, and I'd love some feedback! :) At the moment we're still with the 10th Doctor...
Chapter 4
The sun was rising slowly and the pin-striped man landed the TARDIS. The Doctor checked the TARDIS clock to see that it was coming up to 8 in the morning. Destiny would be getting up soon. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. He turned on his heel and marched his way down to the kitchen.
Destiny seemed to be settling into life on the TARDIS well. She was managing with all the alien adventures and all the emotions that came with them. They had sadly said goodbye to Donna, not long ago. Neither father nor daughter had taken that well, but they were slowly getting over it, sadly.
The Doctor shook his head in sadness at the thought of his best friend as he reached the kitchen. He made a beeline for the kettle, he needed a coffee. He clicked the kettle on to boil and placed a couple of slices of bread in the toaster. He placed the fruit bowl in the middle of the table and proceeded in getting out a couple of healthy cereal choices. He had noticed that Destiny was being a typical unhealthy teenager, and he planned to change that, subtly.
"Morning Dad," Destiny mumbled sleepily as she entered the kitchen. The Doctor had just began making his coffee.
"Morning Des," He smiled. Destiny yawned in reply.
Destiny hadn't bothered getting dressed yet; she was still in her slippers and had just slipped her slippers and dressing gown on before heading to breakfast. Her light blue polka dot dressing gown was not done up, just handing off her shoulders, showing her pjs. They were black, and had a devil on a front with the caption: 'Come to the dark side, we have cookies.' Her pj trousers were black with cookies on them. And her slippers were the fluffy cookie monster that she had a weird obsession over at the moment.
Her eyes landed on the fruit and healthy cereal on the table. She sighed, walked round her dad and made straight for the cereal cupboard.
"Des, I already got some cereal out," The Doctor prompted as he finished making his coffee.
"I'm not stupid," She said, pulling out her favourite choice of cereal; chocolate flakes. "I know what you're trying to do – you're trying to make me eat more healthily." She cast her father a sideways glance. He busied himself by taking his toast out of the toaster and buttering it. He didn't want to show her, she was correct.
"No, I don't know where you got that idea," He said eventually, spreading jam on his toast.
"No, no…" She made it obvious that she looked over at the table. "Neither do I," She said sarcastically. She rolled her eyes as she emptied some chocolate flakes into a bowl. "Come on Dad, don't make it so obvious," She smiled at him as she poured an over-generous amount of milk over her cereal. She sat at the table and dove right into her breakfast. The Doctor sighed and took a seat next to her.
"So what are we doing today?" Destiny asked as she munched on a spoonful of chocolate flakes. She looked at her watch to find that they were surprisingly on Earth. They were in the year 3042. She looked up at her father, who hadn't answered. He was just finishing his toast.
"I thought we could go sightseeing," He said, motioning to her watch.
"Really?" She asked unsure. "You're sure that we're not going to end up getting chased by some alien? Or the human race for that matter?"
"I'm sure," He smiled.
A few hours later, the Doctor and Destiny were running for their lives.
"You promised me!" Destiny screamed at her father as they ran round a sharp corner.
Destiny was now wearing a pair of dark blue skinny jeans, a black vest top with a light grey jumper over it. On her feet were a pair of white converse (ever since she had joined her father on the TARDIS, she knew comfortable footwear was essential!) and a loose turquoise scarf was around her neck. Her straight hair had since been brushed and was in a high pony tail and she had decided to go without make-up.
"Excuse me! I didn't know that complimenting their hats was highly offensive!" The Doctor cried back as he grabbed his daughters hand and suddenly changed direction hoping to shake off their followers.
"You do get us into some serious jelly!" Destiny yelled as they kept running.
They ran down an alleyway and stopped, feeling confident that they had lost their followers. The alleyway was empty, dark and gloomy with only one or two dustbins. The alleyway didn't end, but about 50 feet down the alley was a tall gated barrier. You could see the rest of the alleyway after the gate, which led to light at the end of the tunnel. The two rested against the wall, facing each other as they caught their breath.
"I am NEVER going sightseeing with you again!" Destiny said, after recovering from the fast run.
"Come on, you've got to admit, that was fun," The Doctor smiled his signature smile and raised a questioning eyebrow. Destiny beamed back – silently agreeing with her father. Then suddenly they began laughing over the situation. Destiny looked up at the blue sky.
"Let's go somewhere else," The Doctor suggested. "Where do you want to go?"
Destiny was just about to reply but was interrupted by one of their followers.
"THERE THEY ARE!"
There was about 30 odd people running towards them.
"Run!" The Doctor yelled as he grabbed Destiny's hand again and dragged her down the alley towards the gate. "Quickly, climb over!" The Doctor hurried. The two started climbing the gate as fast as they could. The Doctor got over and jumped. "Come on Des," He hurried.
"I can't!" She gushed as she wriggled her leg. "My foot! It's stuck!"
"Try Des; come on love, you've got to try!" He encouraged, attempting to push her foot out of the hole it was stuck in. The men had caught up now and everything went in a bit of a rush. Their followers were pulling at Destiny, as she screamed and kicked at them all with her free leg. The Doctor was screaming at them to let go of her. He continued to yell at them as he pulled out his sonic screwdriver and setting it at the right setting. He put it against the metal around Destiny's foot; using it to loosen the metal. But the sonic began to falter.
"DAD!" Destiny screamed as she was pulled roughly back. That pulled her ankle out of the gate and onto them. Destiny was screaming in pure agony. The Doctor was screaming at them as well as he threw his sonic down in frustration and climbed back over the gate. He stood in front of them as Destiny's screams fell silent, but her sobs continued to rocket, tearing through the Doctor's hearts.
"Let her go!" The Doctor boomed.
"Who are you?!" One of the men asked. "What do you want here?!"
"I'm the Doctor!" He stated, the oncoming storm dripping from his voice. The men all looked between themselves. They then looked back to Destiny.
"Who's she?!" The same man asked, shaking Destiny roughly. She screamed out in pain again as her ankle collided with the floor.
"Stop! Stop!" The Doctor ordered holding out his hands. "She's my daughter!"
"The Doctor, the famous Doctor, with a daughter?" Another man asked. Again, they shook Destiny and she screamed out in pain once again as her ankle shook.
"Regenerate it baby girl," The Doctor said strongly.
Destiny turned to one of the men holding her.
"Let go of me you bastard!" She snapped coldly before spitting in his eye. The guy cried out as he let go of her to grab his eye. As she tried to ignore the pain from her clearly broken ankle she raised her good foot and kicked the man, holding her from behind; right where the sun don't shine.
He let out a whine of pain, and Destiny fell to the floor as no one was supporting her and her broken ankle. She cried, tears falling down her face and carefully held her ankle.
"Leave now!" The Doctor ordered coldly. The men slowly, but steadily left.
"I could have done more if my ankle wasn't broken," Destiny said with a chuckle.
"Regenerate it!" The Doctor said as he crouched down to her height.
"I can't."
"What?"
"I can't regenerate," She whispered, looking down ashamed.
"What do you mean?" He asked, gently raising her chin with his hand to look into her eyes.
"I mean, I can't change my face, I can't save myself from death – and I certainly can't fix a broken limb." She moved slightly, attempting to get into a more comfortable position; this was a bad decision as she whimpered in pain and grabbed her ankle again.
"Okay, okay," The Doctor said calmly, holding out his hands, making her freeze. "Stay still." He slowly moved his hands to her ankle. "Move your hands Des, I need to see it," He said calmly.
"Dad," She began, unsure.
"Trust me Des, I'm a Doctor," He cast her a sideways glace and winked causing her to give a weak smile and move her hands.
The Doctor gently and ever so slowly pulled her jean leg up. Destiny kept wincing and gasping in pain as he did this.
"It doesn't make sense," The Doctor mumbled as he placed his warm hands around Destiny's ankle. He channelled some of his regeneration energy into his hands and Destiny sighed in relief as the pain vanished, before she gasped out again as the pain came back and she felt her bone practically bind itself back together again, strand by strand. The Doctor pulled his hands away, the golden glow vanishing. "Better?" He asked.
Destiny stretched her leg out, the pain gone again and wriggled her foot about a bit.
"Yeah," She smiled. "Thanks Dad!" She moved herself round slightly and hugged her dad.
"You're welcome," He said as they stood up. "But it doesn't make sense," He repeated himself from earlier.
"What doesn't?" Destiny asked walking round, testing her fixed ankle.
"That you can't you regenerate…"
"Yes it does," Destiny turned to look at her Dad again.
"No it doesn't; you've got two hearts…"
"Yeah, so? My mother's still human," She shrugged. "Come on," She began walking away, desperate to get to the TARDIS. The Doctor jogged to catch up to her.
"It still doesn't make sense," He sighed.
"Yes it does," Destiny repeated.
"No, I mean… you're my daughter."
"Yes…"
"Well, you're more Time Lord than human," The Doctor stated.
"I dunno," Destiny stopped a couple of meters from the TARDIS door. "I may have two hearts, but I can't regenerate, I don't have super hearing, I can't tell where we are just by smelling the air, I can't tell what things are or how old they are by licking them," She shuddered at the thought of this. "Dad, the list goes on… the only Time Lord traits that I have are two hearts, I basically don't age once I reach the age of 14, I live a hell of a lot longer and I have an exceptionally good body clock," Destiny looked away again ashamed.
"Destiny… I didn't know," The Doctor said softly and slowly walked towards her.
"Don't worry about it," She gulped, looked back up at her father and walked towards the TARDIS. "Let's just get out of here," She suggested before entering the old ship.
The Doctor sat on the pilot chair as he watched the centre of the TARDIS rise and fall. He let his thoughts trail back to what Destiny had said about an hour ago… it just proved that he knew basically nothing about his daughter. He felt like he was a failure at this father job.
He needed to talk to her. He stood up and headed out of the main TARDIS console room and made his way to the first door that the TARDIS showed him. He walked into the library and saw Destiny curled up in an armchair, reading a book. He recognised it as Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
"Hey," The Doctor said softly.
"Hi," Destiny said looking up from her book. Her hair was wet from a shower and she was in a white pj top that had a panda wearing a large red bow tie and her trousers were black with smaller versions of the bow tie wearing panda on them. Her feet were stuck in her cookie monster slippers from that morning. She quickly marked her page and closed the book. "What's up?" She asked.
"I wanted to apologise for earlier," He said, sitting on the arm of the chair.
"There is seriously nothing to apologise for," Destiny said, furrowing her eyebrows trying to figure out why her father was saying sorry.
"There is," He sighed. "What you said to me; it made me realise… I'm a failure of a father."
"Dad!" Destiny cried, surprised by his sudden attitude. "Don't be silly," She leant into his side. "If there was a best father award, you would defiantly win it!" She smiled.
"I don't think so," He said using his hand to stroke Destiny's hair. "What you said to me, it just showed me that I know hardly anything about you."
"I keep forgetting," Destiny said after a minute or two of silence.
"What?"
"That you don't really know me… I grew up with you – an older you…" She paused. "You always knew everything about me – so I keep forgetting that you don't…"
The Doctor took his hand from Destiny's head and hugged her from the side.
"Don't worry about it," He informed her. Again, a comfortable silence enveloped them.
"But don't be sorry about what I said earlier… it's not your fault. When I was 7, I was with my Grandmother and Granddad (from my mum's side obviously) and it was the first time that I had ever hurt myself seriously. I broke my wrist on the trampoline. My grandparents rushed me to A&E and I was really upset that I wasn't regenerating, like I had seen the older you do a few times. I wanted you, the future you. And so my granddad called you… you came running and you fixed my wrist there and then. We left; and well you came back to my grandparents' house and told me that I couldn't regenerate… I was so upset… I loved the thought of regenerating…" She paused as a picture of her mother popped in her head. "Why am I telling you this? It's spoilers…" She sighed. The Doctor chuckled.
"Look, I'll pretend that I didn't hear that," The Doctor smiled.
"Okay," Destiny smiled back. "Sorry."
"No I'm sorry."
The two kept repeating this until Destiny pulled out of the hug.
"Can we have fish and chips for tea?" She asked suddenly.
"I don't see why not," The Doctor said.
"Great! I know the perfect place!" Destiny said, standing up and making her way to the library doors.
"But we start eating more healthily tomorrow!" He said following her.
"Yeah, whatever!" She called back sarcastically, running to the TARDIS console room.
There you go! This chapter was to introduce the fact that Destiny can't regenerate. :'(
Spoiler for the next chapter: the Doctor's regeneration!
