A/N: Hello! So, I lied! I was planning on updating 'Slowly Broken' before I did another one of these chapters buuuuuuuuuut... I wrote the 50th for this story already (I told you, I get way too far ahead of myself) and I really, really can't wait to post it. I promise, I'll try and get 'Slowly Broken' updated but I just go with the flow usually so...
Enjoy!

"Oh, this looks interesting." She said excitedly to herself as she clicked on the file. A series of codes sprung forth. She quickly diffused them to allow her access to the main file. She smiled. "They just make this too easy."
"Indeed they do." A voice mused from behind her. "Or maybe you just make it seem easier."
Bad Wolf kept her back to him, her fingers stilled.
"Decimus." She said in acknowledgement. Decimus smiled.
"You know who I am but I don't have any knowledge of you." He said slowly.
"Well," she dragged the word out, "I like to play hard to get." Decimus laughed.
"Would you mind explaining to me how you can hack a system that no human has knowledge of? Or better yet, how you know what I am." Bad Wolf pursed her lips.
"Would you," she emphasized the word, "mind explaining to me why a group of plasmavores are working on a confidential mission in the New Roman Empire?" Decimus acted as if he was pondering the question.
"You aren't in the best position to ask questions." He responded. Finally, Bad Wolf turned around slowly. Decimus was holding a gun, pointing it directly at her head. "Your call though, I suppose." Bad Wolf smiled sweetly.
"I find guns aren't the best persuasion." She answered. He raised an eyebrow in challenge. She lunged forward, attempting to knock the gun out of his hand. His reaction was late but still enough to skim her shoulder. Bad Wolf stumbled back in shock. Decimus took advantage of her surprise and pushed her against the console, her head slamming the metal controls with a sickening thud. Bad Wolf fought to keep her vision steady. "You people and knocking people out." She muttered. She pushed herself back up only for something to connect with the back of her head, silencing her.
John looked to Avitus on his right, taking note of how the man was practically shaking.
"Don't worry, we're going to get out of this." John stated. Avitus looked at him.
"What makes you so sure?" He asked. John realized that Avitus seemed to have learned a lot from just the short time with Bad Wolf.
"Because we have the strength and the smarts to get out of here." He said convincingly. Avitus nodded, seeming to take that as a valid answer. "So," John began, attempting to make conversation, "just a common thief, huh?" Avitus nodded.
"I was a soldier once." He said. "I saw too much war, watched men I had come to see like brothers die. After a while it just became too much. I didn't want to leave my wife and children to fend for themselves, so I came back. Being a soldier was all I had known so I became a thief. It was working well for some time until I stole from my neighbor. I couldn't take the guilt of knowing that I had stolen from somebody who had not much to begin with, so I turned myself in. I confessed in my trial and was sent to die in the Coliseum." John listened raptly, his opinion of the man changing entirely. He had thought he was a coward but he was more brave then most men. "What of you?" Avitus asked. John shrugged.
"I had just knocked a statue over." John said sheepishly. Avitus started to laugh. "What?" John asked.
"You had gone through all of this trouble for knocking a statue over?" He asked, suppressing more laughter. John couldn't help but smile at that.
"It wasn't even a whole statue!" John complained. The two laughed harder. When they calmed down, Avitus looked back to John.
"What about our friend? Bad Wolf, was it?" He asked. John smiled softly.
"Nah, she's just guilty by association." John said. Avitus nodded thoughtfully.
"How are we going to get out of this." Avitus asked. John looked around the cell, sighing.
"We'll figure something out."
Bad Wolf's eyes opened quickly. Her mind in overdrive, well aware she was in danger. She jumped up quickly, taking note of her surroundings. It didn't take her long to realize she was in a prison. "Perfect," she muttered to herself.
"Isn't it just," Decimus says back to her. She raised an eyebrow at him.
"You're still here?" She asked rhetorically. "I was hoping you would've left by now." He chuckled darkly.
"No, I wouldn't trust humans to guard you. You're too clever for that." She smiled smugly at being called clever. "Mind telling me why that is?"
"I am too clever for them." She said menacingly while wrapping her hands around the bars. "But I'm also to clever for you." Decimus's smiled stayed in place, the only reaction to him even hearing her was the slight flinch.
"Perhaps," he said solemnly. "But you know who isn't more clever than me?" He looked expectantly at her. "No?" He frowned. "What a pity." He got closer, leaving only inches in between himself and Bad Wolf. "Your friend." In a second he pulled out the sonic screwdriver from her pocket and slid it across her injured soldier, getting her blood on it. "Always go for the weaker link."
John sat, waiting for an idea to come to him. He realized he didn't have Bad Wolf's mind but he had to be somewhat smart. His books never taught him anything about escaping prison. He could almost laugh at the situation. Never in his life did he expect to be in prison, let alone a Roman prison that's actually in the future. He heard footsteps from the distance, letting out a long sigh realizing that they were too loud to be Bad Wolf's. He waited patiently alongside Avitus for the person to arrive. John's eyes widened in surprise when he saw Decimus. Decimus walked close to their cell, stopping at just the right angle to illuminate his dark eyes.
"Who is she?" He asked, his voice making his intent quite clear.
"She?" John attempted to play dumb.
"Bad Wolf, you called her. What is she?" He asked, moving even closer. John swallowed hard.
"Human, what else could she be?" He feigned. Decimus laughed, his voice sounding low and gravelly.
"It's funny, she stayed quiet while you try lying." John took in a deep breath, his muscles tensing. He did not like where this conversation was going. "No matter what I tried, she just wouldn't talk." He shrugged nonchalantly. "Oh well, talking isn't going to be a problem for her anymore."
"W-what…" He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. "What happened to her?" He asked. Decimus smiled predatorily. Instead of speaking, he held an object out to John. John took it, bringing it down to investigate. He swallowed hard, realizing it was the sonic screwdriver. He saw the blood, unsure of what to think. Surely he didn't kill Bad Wolf. He looked up to Decimus, who nodded smugly. John bit his lip, staring at the sonic screwdriver. Decimus left without another word, leaving John to process the information.
Bad Wolf was mad. No, she was more than mad, she was livid. She can deal with being put in jail, with being shot, with having to save a companion, but nobody, and she means NOBODY, can take her sonic screwdriver and get away with it. She was scowling at the wall as if it had offended her. She stood up and slid her hand slowly along the wall like she normally does. She isn't sure why but this regeneration is rather fond of feeling instead of using other senses. She's just glad she doesn't like tasting everything this go round. Digging around in her pockets she found the ingredients she needed. She wasted no time in getting down to work on making an acid strong enough to get through the iron bars. She absently thought that she might need to bring safer objects in her pockets. Within minutes she had made an acid strong enough. She smirked at the little vial. She popped open the vial, careful not to get any on her. She quickly threw it on the bars, melting them to the ground. She smiled smugly, admiring her work for a moment. She took careful steps out, extra cautious of any remaining residue. Running out, she looked to her left and right. Apparently she was the last cell, seeing how her left had absolutely no cells. Turning right, she began to sprint down the rows of cells. Continuing for minutes, she was almost ready to try running back when she heard a whisper.
"Bad Wolf?" John called tentatively. She whipped her head towards the sound of his voice.
"John!" She exclaimed. She walked to his cell where he was waiting.
"You're alive!" He said happily. Bad Wolf furrowed her brows.
"Uh, yeah, last time I checked, bullet grazes don't kill you." She replied. He laughed out of pure relief. Bad Wolf's eye caught the silver flash given off by her sonic screwdriver. "John, the sonic please." She said. John looked down wide eyed.
"Oh, right." He passed her the sonic through the cell. Working quickly, she undid the lock. The second the lock clicked, John was hugging Bad Wolf fiercely.
"Uh, right, hello." She said awkwardly as she patted his back. He pulled back, slightly blushing.
"Sorry." He said sheepishly. Bad Wolf smiled charmingly at him.
"Ok, now we have to stop Decimus." Bad Wolf stated.
"And how are we going to do that exactly?" He asked.
"We could round up all of the prisoners and have them overthrow him." Avitus suggested. Bad Wolf outweighed the options. Emperor Decimus was supposed to be assassinated so this could right the time lines. She looked to Avitus.
"As long as you lead them." She responded. Avitus nodded his acceptance.
"Before we do this, I want answers." Bad Wolf raised an eyebrow in question. "Who are you?" He asked.
"I'm Bad Wolf and this is John." She replied. Avitus shook his head.
"No but who are you really?" He tried again. Bad Wolf bit her lip, thinking. She didn't think it would be wise telling him the truth but she couldn't just outright lie to him either. Then the idea hit her.
"Fortuna." She answered, smiling. Oh, wasn't that just a grand time, one that involves Ace, her seventh regeneration, herself, and many angry Romans. Avitus looked at her, studying her appearance.
"I thought you looked like her." He mumbled. He bowed his head. "It is a great honor to meet you, my lady Fortuna." Bad Wolf bowed in kind. John raised an eyebrow at her which was responded with a silent, "Tell you later." "Let us begin this uprising together." He said. Bad Wolf whipped out her sonic screwdriver, unlocking every cell they went by. By the end they had the equivalent of a small army. Avitus gathered them up, preparing them for battle. Bad Wolf and John stood to the side, waiting to leave. Avitus gave a grand speech ending with a look to Bad Wolf and the words, "And may the lady Fortuna protect us." The prisoners all cheered along with him, following his lead to the throne room. Bad Wolf and John waited for the crowd to clear out before making their way to the TARDIS. John shut the door behind him, turning to face Bad Wolf.
"So, lady Fortuna, huh?" He began nonchalantly. Bad Wolf looked up from her place behind the time rotor.
"Oh, just something that happened a while back." She answered. John stood in silence, watching her for a minute.
"Does Avitus make it?" He questioned. Bad Wolf nodded.
"Yeah, he becomes emperor actually." She stated. John processed this information, wanting to say more. He tried to stay quiet but finally thought he should speak.
"I thought you died." He blurted out. Bad Wolf looked to her shoulder.
"Nope, just a little graze." She replied. John took a step toward her.
"Do you need help fixing it up?" He questioned. Bad Wolf shook her head.
"No, it's only a little wound, with my superior biology and all of that I should be good as new in an hour or so." She said. John nodded.
"What would have happened if you had?" He asked curiously. "Died, I mean. What would have happened to me or to the TARDIS?" Bad Wolf looked back down at her hands, wondering how she could tell him.
"It wouldn't have happened like that exactly." At his furrowed brow she continued. "I mean I wouldn't have died."
"I don't understand." He stated. Bad Wolf nodded.
"We can talk about this later, for now you need some rest." John wanted to push but didn't feel like he had a right to yet. He nodded in resignation, heading for his bed room. Before he walked out of the console room, Bad Wolf spoke up.
"Oh, and John." She called.
"Yeah?" He asked, turning around. She seemed to pause, almost unsure what to say.
"Don't think I didn't notice what you did to that tunic." She said. John laughed, knowing she was retreating into herself. He continued to walk down the hall, hoping she would learn to open up to him soon.
A/N: I absolutely love hearing what you guys have to say! So let me know what you thought of this chapter! This was the last part of 'The New Roman Empire'. Incidentally, this is one of the two three parters in the first story. The other is 'Heaven's Hell' because I absolutely loved writing that! OH, I was wondering if you guys wanted me to post a peek of what each 'episode' is going to be about before I actually post the 'episode'? Anyways, let me know if you want that. 'The Unquiet Dead', which will be a one parter, is going to be the next 'episode'. Thanks for reading!
