From The Ground Up
This life will go by in the blink of a eye but I wouldn't want to spend it without you by my side. Sarah x Connor and all that comes in between
And 5 makes a crowd
Sarah had just arrived at work for last minute arrangements. She was thankful she no longer had to work the extensive hours the hospital required her to.
She would have time to take Luke to hockey practice, pick up Finn from rehearsal, take Jamie to playdates and drive Ollie to his check ups without having to sneak from under Daniel's watchful eye, not that she no longer needed to be cautious around her old mentor. Daniel for his part spent less and less time at the hospital as he soon hoped to retire.
Connor would joke if it weren't for the kids, Dr. Charles would have groomed her to take his place just like Dr. Downey and Dr. Latham had seemed to do with him.
She dropped her bag on the couch and just took a breather, she was tired from the long day, it was spring break so she had the kids with her at home.
Four kids were a lot to handle.
Right now, they had been dropped off somewhere other than with her so she could focus on paying bills and organize herself for the next month or she just wanted to rest, she longed the moment Connor would leave work and they could have a moment as they were meant to leave for Hawaii the next day.
Hawaii? The beach and Connor in a swimsuit? She could live with that.
Taking a seat on the couch and going trough her phone lazily was the combination she needed to fall asleep.
It wasn't until her phone buzzed that she looked up and saw Connor's face on the screen. "Hey, I'm on my way to pick up the kids."
"Hey..." She said with a smile.
"You okay?" Connor asked. She sounded drowsy, almost sad, something that her husband would quickly pick up.
"Yeah, I was just resting my eyes..." Sarah said.
"Tired much super mom?"
"A little, yeah.. those kids have way too much energy." Sarah smiled. "I might be coming down with something though, which would be a disaster, I don't want to be sick when we're about to leave for Hawaii."
Connor laughed. "Babe, I'm sure you're just tired. I'll rub your feet tonight, okay?"
"You better." She smirked.
Feet rubbing and Hawaii? It didn't get any better than that.
Sarah sighed again. She had just gathered all her children's suitcases in the hallway. She made sure not to forget anything the kids might need. Connor came into the room as he had just put Jamie down for the night.
"Do you need a hand?" He asked throwing a stuffed lion on the bed.
"No, I think I got it. It's just me who's in need to pack but I'm way too tired." Sarah smiled tiredly, sliding down on the bed, Connor smiled and joined her a minute later.
"I need to pack too." He told her, leaning to kiss her softly on the lips.
"You better get on it then..." Sarah groaned, but it was clear Connor had other plans as he began to suck on the side of her neck. "Babe, we really do need to.."
"We do..." He sighed, pushing Reese on her back so he was on top. "But not right this second...ยท
"Connor, our flight leaves in less than 12 hours." She told him, her eyes closed at his ministrations on her face, the subtle scratching of his beard made it impossible for her to focus.
But she was exhausted to even argue so she just allowed herself to enjoy having a minute with him. She kissed him softly as he came up to face her. "So I was thinking..."
"Uh- oh, that's never good." She joked. Connor rolled her eyes at her.
"There are babysitters at the hotel, we could just leave the kids settled one morning and go hiking, just the two of us?"
Sarah? Hiking? She had to admit, being a mother of 3 boys had made her more outdoorsy that she had ever thought she'd be, but hiking sounded like a lot of work.
"When I went to Hawaii after Downey died." Connor kept speaking, "I found this beautiful waterfall..."
"But getting there requires hiking?" Sarah asked. Connor looked up.
"I can carry you."
"That sounds like a good idea" She smiled. Sarah took a minute to allow the make out session to continue, I mean, she had been barely allowed to be alone with Connor in the past week as he'd been working tirelessly with Dr. Latham to save a couple of conjoined twins."You're not called Dr. Rambo for nothing...Babe, we really need to pack and then sleep." Sarah said, cursing under her breath. She regretted instantly at the loss of contact from Connor's body. He helped her up to a sitting position, kissed her again and stood up to grab their cases from the closet.
Packing consisted of them joking, talking of everything and nothing, stolen kisses and laughter.
She loved how connected they still were even after all these years. "Did we forget anything?" Connor asked, collapsing next to her on the bed once more. Sarah glanced over to the clock on the nightstand.
They should really try and get some sleep. "I don't think so."
Then it hit her, out of nowhere, a wave of sickness. She rolled to her side and sat up, Connor turned to look at her instantly. "Sarah?"
"I told you, I'm coming down with something... great now all the kids will have it too, because it's just how it works." Sarah got upset all the sudden. "I mean Jamie had stomach flu a few weeks ago..."
"You're not warm." Connor touched her forehead softly. "Lie down." He stood up and went to get a washcloth from the bathroom. "Better?" He said placing it on her forehead.
"Yeah." She smiled softly. "Thank you Dr. Rhodes."
"My pleasure." He smirked. "You want some water?"
"No, I'm good... can you just..." She didn't have to say more because he laid there with her, kissing her at any chance he got. They stayed quiet for a moment. "Connor..."
"Yeah?"
It hit her, that maybe just maybe she had been so wrapped up in her daily life, on the kids and work to notice, but Sarah was organized, methodical even...
"Connor, I'm late."His eyes widened. "I hadn't even realized..."
"How late?" She had her full attention now. Sarah bit her lip.
"We had too much fun at Nat and Will's dinner a few weeks ago, didn't we? When we came home?" Connor looked up at her. "The kids weren't here and.." She was playing the whole scene in her head. "Oh God." She sat up, brushing Connor off, she needed to make count.
The exhaustion? Nausea? She had been like this last time. Sarah then stood up and headed over to the bathroom. She searched for something for a minute and came back.
Thank Goodness for technology and electronic pregnancy tests, they had saved a lot of staring looks from people. She grabbed the small device, Connor was already on her toes. "I mean, it's possible right?"
Connor bit his lip. Of course it was."It is, but Sarah even if we are, we'll deal with it okay?"
Sarah smiled at him. "I know."
What did you guys think? I love domestic Reese!
