A.N : Lookie! A new one-shot. Now this one has some Jaune X Pyrrha and when I mean some I mean the whole back half of it revolves around that. You could say it is a...Juan-Shot!...I'll just see myself out now."
Weiss and I – Complications
I scanned around the crowded cafeteria, clutching the tray of food I had just taken. Normally I would find where RWBY and JNPR would usually sit but today was an exception. Most of my friends and of course Weiss had been sent off to investigate a large disturbance in the Forever Fall that has gotten alarmingly close to the Academy grounds. So now I was stuck alone, in the mess hall. As I walked down one of the aisles, trying to avoid the other students that bulldozed past me I caught sight of a familiar body, the blond hair, the black hoodie underneath bits of white armour was unmistakable.
"Hey Jaune."
I greeted as I sat beside him, slightly jolting the blonde.
"Oh hey, didn't think you'd be here."
He gargled while still chewing his meal.
"I was going to say the same thing to you, shouldn't you be with the team you're in charge of?"
It bewildered me why JNPR's leader was sitting here eating while the rest of his team was busy fighting off who knows what in the forest.
"I'm sure they're fine, I have faith in their abilities. Besides RWBY's with them too, should be a piece of cake."
He confidently declared. I chuckled slightly at the absurdity. After some more idle banter Jaune suddenly turned to me, a serious look on his face.
"So Weiss has been training you right?"
He asked. Immediately I was concerned about the directness of the questioning. Timidly, I nodded.
"So you know her pretty well right?"
With that my slight concern had turned into full-blown panic.
'Does Jaune know? How did he know? I never told anyone, Weiss sure as hell didn't tell anyone.'
I asked myself, anxiety gripping my entire body. I thought we had our relationship practically untraceable; we avoided holding hands, standing too close to one another when others were around and even avoiding talking to each other for too long a period of time.
"Y-Yeah…..I guess."
I had to make sure Jaune hadn't totally picked up on us being together.
"So…what kind of flowers does she like?"
"Eh?"
I blinked for a while at the blonde's question.
'I guess he doesn't know.'
I let out a mental sigh of relief before quickly going back to outright surprised as I processed the question. Was Jaune trying to hit on Weiss?!
"You know, like, does she like lilies, daffodils, roses?"
Jaune continued to look at my entirely stunned face.
"I-I don't know."
I knew lying was only going to bite me in the rear eventually but at that point I didn't see any other option. Slightly annoyed I didn't provide any worthwhile information to him, Jaune shoulders fell and he turned back to his food. He soon went on to talking about Weiss in a dare I say overzealously flattering manner, talking about everything from Weiss's divine looks to her great fighting ability. As much as I could concur with Jaune there was only so much a man could tolerate someone else call their girlfriend 'My Snow Angel' and 'My Ice Princess'. I couldn't really blame Jaune though, as far as he knew Weiss was very much single and that, in a minimal consolation was proof that we were at least competent in hiding our relationship. Fortunately I was literally saved by the bell and Jaune stood up from his seat.
"Hey, can I ask a small favour of you?"
Jaune asked while I too got up.
"Um…..sure."
I reluctantly agreed.
"Could you find out more about Weiss for me? Like her favourite type of music and stuff like that?"
With hesitation I nod before Jaune disappeared amongst the sea of other students.
Later…
The sound of clashing metal filled the evening air as Weiss and I were once again practicing swordplay.
"So what happened out there this afternoon?"
I asked between the grunts I would let out with every forceful strike to Weiss's blade.
"Pack of Beowolves, nothing that serious."
She nonchalantly replied, her blade held steadily in front of her to parry my slashes.
"You know if you would do better you would be sent out there to fight too."
"That's why I'm here isn't it?"
After a momentary pause to regain a proper grip to the handle of my sword I spoke up again.
"Weiss?"
"Yeah?"
"When are we going to tell the others?"
At my question, Weiss abruptly lowered Myrtenaster and stared at me, caught off guard I halted my swing and dropped by weapon to the ground inches before hitting her.
"I already told you, I'm not ready just yet."
I couldn't say I didn't expect that answer from her.
"Weiss, you know the longer we keep it a secret-."
"I know."
With a sigh I tried to get her to at least tell the rest of her team about it despite them pretty much already in the know I thought it would be a good start.
"What if we just tell your team for now? I'm sure Ruby and the others will-."
"No."
She insisted harshly.
"Could we at least tell Jaune?"
Weiss leaned forward and raised an eyebrow.
"Why are you bringing him up?"
"I think you know Weiss."
She did. Weiss sheaths her rapier looks away with a grimace.
"Weiss he came to me to ask about you at lunch."
Weiss took a few steps towards me.
"What did you tell him?"
She asked, full of concern.
"I didn't tell him anything about the two of us."
As Weiss let out a brief sigh I take hold of one of her hands, catching her full attention.
"Weiss you can't keep leading him on like this, if he finds out….."
I couldn't really guess how he would react under those circumstances, but my mind throwing at me every crazy worst-case-scenario possible was enough to scare me out of dwelling on it for too long. Sighing, Weiss shook my hand off hers and faced her back to me.
"That'll be all for today. Just give me some time alone to think."
She told me. Silently nodding I sheathed my own blade prepared to leave.
"Night Weiss, see you tomorrow."
She didn't reply. As much as I wanted to stay beside her I knew she needed some time to get things sorted out. Weiss wasn't the kind of person that liked her opinions to be changed by others.
Next Day….
The morning had started on a rather odd note. Lethargically leaving my room for the first class, Weiss had just left her room ahead of the hallway as well. Quickly spotting me she patiently waited for me to get further down the hallway. Once we were side-by-side I did a quick glance behind us before asking.
"Weiss about yester-."
"So I thought about what you said yesterday,"
I was abruptly cut off when Weiss looked up at me and continued.
"and I decided that I will tell the others about us. Just not so soon."
It came as a relief and a surprise to me that Weiss had so definitively made her mind up.
"So how do you wanna go about it?"
At the question, Weiss lowered her head back down and let out a soft 'hmm' as she thought.
"Well we don't just want to tell them out of nowhere, so my plan is….."
It was rather amusing how calculated her grand scheme of revealing our relationship to everyone else was going to be.
"we give them 'hints' about us so that we get them to think we're together before we actually go ahead and tell them outright in let's say a month or so."
I was all for the quite ingenious albeit humorously unnecessary plan but I still wasn't sure what she meant by 'hints'.
"So what are these 'hints' you're proposing?"
A soft smile on her face, she turned to face me.
"Well for starters….."
She reached across and took hold of my hand and pulled me to her such that we were shoulder-to-shoulder. I blushed pink but of course I didn't pull away. I was, beyond other emotions, extremely overjoyed. I giggled quietly to myself as I locked my fingers with hers.
I was just beginning to enjoy our new freedom when it was very rudely interrupted by Jaune who barged in-between me and Weiss. He didn't seem to notice us holding hands as he immediately turned her attention to Weiss.
"Weiss, what a pleasant surprise."
He greeted charmingly.
"What do you want Jaune?"
Weiss didn't really bother disguising her contempt for the interruption as she glared at the blonde, her arms folding up sternly. Jaune however seemed either unfazed or entirely oblivious to the scorn on Weiss's face and carried on talking to her.
"So I was wondering, I have a little problem when it comes to-."
"You have your own team don't you? Go ask them for help instead of pestering me."
Weiss had shot down Jaune with a terrifying amount of swiftness before beginning to pick up her pace down the hallway. Both Jaune and I sped up accordingly to keep up. I contemplated about saying something but I didn't exactly know what to say that wouldn't have made the situation worse.
"What I was trying to say is….."
Jaune, with a quick burst of speed, went ahead of Weiss and turned around to face her.
"You wanna go out with me?"
At that very instant my entire body froze up and I threw my hand in front of my mouth to hold myself back from any outburst I was going to regret. Weiss had a slightly different reaction, her whole body twitched minutely and her icy blue eyes became narrow slits of blue. Raising her hand up to Jaune who still hopefully stood before her, she placed her index finger on his chest plate and with a staggering amount of force pushed Jaune out of her way, nearly shoving the blonde off his feet. After getting a surprised Jaune out of the way she quietly stomped off, leaving me to sprint after her. Returning back to her side she did little except continue walk with distinctly heavy footsteps.
"Um…..that was kinda harsh don't you think?"
Weiss gave me the same stare she gave Jaune just a few seconds ago.
"Why didn't you say anything?!"
She scolded, her arms still locked together.
"What was I supposed to say?"
"Well…I don't know, something, anything…."
It very quickly dawned upon us that we were going to have to tell Jaune about our relationship. The longer Weiss kept leading him on the harder telling him eventually was going to be. I was going to be a massive problem for everyone. Weiss had suggested that she herself was going to pull Jaune aside and tell him straight up.
"I don't think that's such a good idea, if you tell him you're with someone, he's probably going to figure out it's me…"
Weiss grimaced at me for throwing a wrench into her 'shock-treatment' of a plan. We both knew he was going to be less than happy no matter what manner we go about it. However I seemed a lot more concerned with subtlety then Weiss was.
"I-I'll think of something."
Weiss quickly dismissed the situation and turned off into the hall she had a class in and I left for mine.
Later that day we had found ourselves together for a special assignment out in the Forever Falls. The rest of the group which consisted of the JNPR and the rest of RWBY paid little attention to Weiss and me who brought up the rear. Our feet crunched over the layers upon layers of crimson leaves that had caked the forest floor. That noise mixed in with the private chatter between everyone else in the group made for a rather good opportunity to talk to Weiss about a particular blonde hunter-in- training. However before I could get so much as a peep out the group came to a stop and at the front was Ms Goodwitch.
"You all know the task so will not reiterate. You are to stay strictly in the outer perimeter and are to stay in at least pairs."
As everyone else dispersed, Jaune made an immediate beeline for Weiss.
"Weiss, I was just wondering if we could work together for thi-."
Without allowing him to finish Weiss gripped onto his hoodie and towed him away from the others. Caught off guard, I followed them behind a tree.
"Woah, if this means you've reconsidered my offer….."
I had to give credit where credit was due, Jaune has an admirable amount of persistence. Weiss didn't seem to share my sentiment.
"Alright listen."
It was instantly obvious to me what Weiss was about to tell him. I guess she had decided to go for the 'instant blunt force trauma' approach after all.
"I'm already with someone else alright."
She told him straightforwardly, a mild pink rising in her cheeks past the stern look on her face. Silently, I walked up beside Weiss and took her hand in mine. Jaune's jaw hung ajar, utterly dumbfounded, his eyes went from Weiss to me, then darted back to Weiss again.
"You two? How long?"
He asked, an expression of shock still etched on his face.
"Well….since the whole thing with me waking up from the Ursa attack."
My answer only intensified the blow of the incident to him.
Without a word, Jaune lowered his head and walked away. The area quickly fell into an eerie silence. Looking over to Weiss, her face went between relief and regret. Nudging her shoulder I gave her a downcast stare, Weiss quickly returned the gesture. The eye contact remained for a few seconds before she lowered her head back down.
"I know what you're going to say."
She said with a sigh.
"He'll get over it."
She stated coldly. I was more than sceptical about that matter, however, saying anything wasn't going to change the situation now.
"Come on. We need to start."
Weiss instructed, gesturing at me to follow.
A few days later…..
The days after the incident were relatively quiet. We had been carrying out the 'plan' of hinting at our relationship, whether it was subconsciously or not we had both pushed aside the memory about Jaune.
"Honestly, are you trying to get yourself kicked out of Beacon?"
Weiss frowned in disappointment at me as we walked down the halls of the Academy, her boots clapping with every step taken on the polished ceramic tiles of the floor.
"What are you talking about? I passed the test didn't I?"
I retorted angrily, I expected at least some sort of pat on the back or a 'good job' or anything even mildly resembling what a normal girlfriend would do under these circumstances especially considering how me passing a test was a pretty rare event.
"You did, barely, it's not good enough."
She stated coldly. Just as I was about to initiate a full-scale argument someone behind us called out our names. Turning around, we saw Pyrrha running down the hall, coming to a halt in-between us. Pyrrha was wearing the same uniform as everyone else was but her bright red hair tied up to a high ponytail that stretched the length of her back which whipped about with every movement like a deadly blade made her fairly hard to miss.
"Hey Pyrrha."
We both greeted the redhead in unison. Pyrrha, without saying a word gripped onto both our arms and dragged us off the main hallway. Completely bewildered, we were pulled to a narrow and empty walkway in one of the smaller blocks of the Academy. Weiss shook the auburn's hand off her and asked sternly.
"What's going on?"
Frowning, Pyrrha put her hands on her hips.
"Did something happen between you two and Jaune?"
Instantly, Weiss and I looked at each other, hoping the either had a proper answer. After I short sequence of facial expressions and nods we turned back to Pyrrha.
"We have no idea what you're talking about."
Weiss declared, folding her arms and lifting her head up and to the left. Pyrrha however didn't buy even an ounce of her little fib. Taking a single step closer to the both of us she stated.
"Jaune's been acting weird these past few days, ever since we went to the forest."
It had become apparent that she knew a lot more than we thought and hoped. So both of us didn't say a word and instead darted our eyes nervously around the scenery. This only deepened Pyrrha's frown.
"Look,"
The redhead said in a distressingly sombre to tone.
"I care about Jaune…a lot."
A redness on her cheeks nearly matching that of her hair crept up as she continued
"I don't know if you understand but…. it's difficult to see him like this, so please…..tell me."
Weiss and I looked at her, stunned. We took a quick glance at each other before I walked to Pyrrha and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"Alright. We'll explain everything."
We made our way down to a secluded bench in one of the Academy's small gardens. It was already evening with the rustic, metal lamps that illuminated the pathway casting the entire area in a faint yellow glow.
"So? What is all this about?"
Pyrrha had since grown impatient as she eagerly awaited the explanation. Weiss, who was seated between Pyrrha and myself gave me a small nudged.
"You wanna tell her? Or should I?"
The way she phrased was obviously urging me to describe the whole series of events over her. With a sideways smile I said.
"I'll do it."
With that I turned to Pyrrha, her emerald eyes begging for answers.
"Well….I suppose I should start right from the beginning….Me and Weiss….."
I wrapped my arms around Weiss and rested my chin on her shoulder.
"We've kinda been together for a while now."
Instantly, the redhead's eyes widened in surprise. She was caught off guard but she kept quiet to let me continue.
"We wanted to keep a secret. That is until earlier this week when Jaune….."
At that point I realized there were going to be a million reactions Pyrrha could have to me telling her about the male of her affection hitting on someone else. Very few of those reactions would be nice ones. So with a slight hesitance in my voice I resumed my explanation.
"asked Weiss out on a date."
There was an amazing assortment of different emotions Pyrrha displayed: shock, embarrassment, jealousy, anger just to name a few. The redhead, for the longest time remained silent, with her mouth hanging open entirely dumbfounded.
"So let me get something straight….."
She leaned towards Weiss, instinctively, the heiress inched away an equal distance.
"Jaune likes you?"
I found it ridiculous how oblivious the normally very calm and level-headed auburn was about this reality, and even more absurd was how badly she was hiding her feelings for the blonde.
"Well…..he did."
Weiss answered. Pyrrha slumped back into the seat, her peculiar metal headpiece giving out a small 'ding' as it hit the back of the bench.
"So he's upset because she's already taken…"
She murmured to herself as if we weren't there anymore. Her emerald green eyes glistened with sorrow and disappointment.
"You know, since you like him so much why don't you just tell him how you feel?"
I said, breaking the silence of the night. Pyrrha jumped slightly as she sat herself upright again, the mad blush returning to her cheeks.
"What?! I can't do that. Not when things are like this. Besides….it's not 'that' kind of like…"
Weiss snickered at the childish and ineffective attempt by Pyrrha to hide.
"Pyrrha, whatever it is you're doing it's not pretending. The only reason why Jaune isn't paying attention to you is because you're wasting the opportunities you're given. As embarrassing as it may be you have to take that first step, if not…well….look what's happened."
Weiss lectured. I was aware what she was trying to do so I did my best to keep my outcries of hypocrisy at bay as I recalled the rather extreme circumstances that have led to our own relationship. Weiss's little lesson on love seemed to have been taken to heart by Pyrrha. I guess the unapologetically harshness of Weiss's tone does work on some people. The redhead seemed slightly more invigorated, her eyes still stirring with uncertainty but not as much as before.
"You really think I should do that?"
She asked the both us, we both nod simultaneously. Giving her a supportive smile I said.
"If there's anyone he needs right now. It's you."
Pyrrha with a bright grin returning to her she reached out and grabbed onto one of my hands and one of Weiss's.
"Thank you, both of you."
After letting go of our hands, everything seemed relatively settled, much to everyone's relief. Weiss suddenly nudged me in the side.
"We still have some time. You still need a lot of practice if you're going to make it to next semester. C'mon we can use the nearby court.
I lift my head up to let out a over-the-top groan of agony before plonking my head back onto Weiss's shoulder.
"Really? You're going to do this now? Gosh, way to kill the mood there 'Snow Queen' all hail her royal grouchiness."
I whined, puckering my lips. It made Pyrrha giggle slightly but Weiss instead gave me a furious glare which basically meant that I was destined to lose this argument. As I stood up, I begrudgingly accepted the inevitable fate and we both turned to look at Pyrrha as she continued to sit down, her hands placed on her chest and a soft smile on her face.
"Pyrrha? We're gonna go off now so…."
"I think I'll just sit here for a while. Bye."
She said in a rather gentle tone, her hand rose to wave goodbye to me and Weiss. Deciding to adhere to the lovesick redhead's request we walked towards the court just up the embankment behind the bench.
Later….
"So you think Pyrrha's gonna talk to him?"
I asked, my blade raised in front of me in preparation for a strike.
"She's smart, she knows what to do. Unlike a certain someone! I've told you for the umpteenth time, your arms aren't in the right position!"
Grunting at me she walked over and put her hands on my arms.
"Keep it…at this…."
Her face went slightly pink as she began shifting my arms into the proper position. Her eyes began to glisten slightly and her eyelids dropped halfway down her eyes. After a bit of moving about my upper arm she reached up and held on to my hands which were still wrapped around the handle of my blade.
"Um…Weiss….."
I said, my face burning up as well. Broken from her trance she let go of my hands and cleared her throat.
"Um…..just….keep it like that."
"Is there something wrong?"
At my question she immediately shook her head.
"No. It's just that….."
I lowered and sheathed my blade before turning to her. Looking over to the embankment which we had left Pyrrha she whispered at me.
"We just told Pyrrha about us."
I walked closer to her so we could keep the conversation quiet.
"And I was thinking…"
She reached out and clasped both her hands around my arm. Her eyes shifted away from me.
"Since we told her, I guess its ok we tell everyone else."
My eyes widen in surprise.
"Wait, you sure about this?"
"Well, yeah I mean since we've told Jaune and Pyrrha…..and besides….. I-I want to be closer….to you I mean."
I smiled at her and pulled her in for a brief kiss.
"Thank you, Weiss."
Not looking up at me, she curled her hands around my abdomen and locked me in a gentle hug. I was surprised but I wasn't going to complain. I always cherished tender moments I would have with Weiss, like a diamond, its rarity only made them moment even more precious. With a relaxed sigh I shut my eyes and rest my head on her shoulder.
"Pyrrha? Pyrrrhhaaaa…."
We heard a feint voice call out, abruptly cutting through the shrill calls of the nocturnal insects. Half-heartedly, we broke the hug. We made our way to the embankment we walked up to get to the court. Leaning over the railing we looked back down at the bench which, much to our surprise Pyrrha was still sitting in, waving her hands in the air to signal to Jaune who quickly ran up to her. We kept quiet as we tried to listen in on their conversation.
"Pyrrha what are you doing here? Everyone's been looking for you."
Jaune told the redhead in a mixture of frustrated and exhausted shouts as he sat down beside her. Completely dismissing the question with a shake of her head Pyrrha proceeded to ask the blonde in a far softer voice.
Annoyingly the rest of the discussion wasn't audible to us. But through a shoddy attempt at lip-reading I could roughly work out what they were saying.
Pyrrha started off talking about the relationship and how it was brutally revealed to him, evidence by the hard slumping of the blonde's shoulders.
"What do you thinks gonna happen?"
I turn to whisper to Weiss. She didn't answer as she continued to observe the unfolding events. After a bit of chatter it seemed as though Pyrrha was making her move just like Weiss told her to. Pyrrha grabbed onto Jaune's hands and pulled him off the bench so they could properly face each other. Both Weiss and I lean forward in eager anticipation. We couldn't help but smile as Pyrrha lowered her head and her face turning bright red. We watched the redhead shake and stammer as she presumably confessed to Jaune, the blonde's face quickly matching the blush on Pyrrha.
As if time had stood still the both of them stood there, locked in place. I cast a worried glance to Weiss and she returned an identical look, had it not worked?
However the moment we turned back forwards we saw Pyrrha and Jaune wrapped tenderly in each other's arms, Pyrrha's emerald eyes brimmed with tears of bliss as her chest heaved up and down as the excitement overwhelmed her system. Jaune seemed to show equal if not even more affection, his arms locking around Pyrrha in an almost brutal bear hug. It was heart-warming spectacle.
"What a hell of a week this has been."
I say letting out a hearty yawn as we walked away from the railing, leaving the two new lovebirds to have some time alone. Weiss turned around to look at me and slowed down such that we were side-by-side.
"Hey, could you let me…."
She began as she hooked her arm around mine.
"Sleep over in your room….. tonight."
Her shy request was barely louder than the chirping crickets.
"Seriously, what is up with you today?"
I ask with a small snicker. Pushing herself slightly away from me, Weiss gave me a stern stare.
"Alright then! You know if you didn't want it you could've just-."
The rest of her sentence was muffled when I push my lips against hers, leaving her surprised and flushed pink.
"I didn't say no."
I shot her a cheesy sideways grin as I pulled her in closer.
A.N: Confession, I did this just so I could get that pesky 'keep it a secret' plot point off my back. Now hopefully, this will allow for more interaction with the other characters and what have you. I might revisit the whole hiding the relationship thing in the future but not a hundred percent. Please don't hate me for it. Besides that, hope you enjoyed and please review, favorite and follow :D
