Several military sedan pulled up to the 34th Street Subway Station. The above ground the damage didnt look so bad, it was below ground that was an issue. Mighty lead Sgt. Knuckles and the research team down below the subway. When he escorted them into the tunnel, they looked beyond stunned.
"We found this late this afternoon." The armadillo reported, looking at the enormous hole that use to be the subway tunnels. The four tunnels were now formed into one gigantic tunnel with debris and brick carved out. Several soldiers with lights approached the hole "We were checking the office building above when we discovered the floor was gone." The team looked up, seeing the building above them, now hollow and torn to shreds. Another hole in the building leads to the street. "When we learned he could burrow his way through the tunnels... we realized he could be out of the quarantined zone." Mighty reported grimly.
"Christ. How many tunnels lead off the island?" Knuckles asked concerned.
"Only five, Sir. We've checked them all. He hasn't used any of them."
'Have them sealed off." Mighty began walking off, until he turned back.
"And how should we do that, Sir?"
"Fill them with cement, brick them up, put land mines in them, bombs, I don't know, just make sure that goddamned thing doesn't leave the island!" Knuckles ordered. Mighty ran off to do just that. Tails examined the giant hole, peering at the soldiers walking around in it. A thought then came to him.
"You know," He started, getting Knuckles attention. "He's not an enemy trying to evade you. He's just an animal."
"What are you suggesting?" Knuckles asked, looking for any ideas.
"When I needed to catch earthworms, I knew the best way to catch them was not to chase them. I had to draw them out." Tails looked back into the dark tunnel. "All we need to do... is find out what it wants, what it needs, and he'll come to us." As Tails said this several soldiers who were examing the tunnel came across what appeared to be fish...
"Draw it out. It could work." Sonic said.
"But why do I get the feeling something 's gonna go horribly wrong?" Mina asked.
"Do lizards even eat fish?" Vector asked.
"If you guys let me continue, we'll find out."
In the center of town a battalion of armored tanks roll down the deserted city streets. A large number of ground troops march behind. Over head helicopters swerve, heading to the designated area. In the designated area soldiers pile up sand bags, creating a make shift fortification. On the buildings above sharp shooters and the bazooka brigade settle into their place. Knuckles was sitting at head quarters giving directions.
"Where are they now?" He asked a radio technician.
"Delta niner, what is convoy position?" Lead by a parade of armored military vehicles, the convoy of twenty dump trucks pass over the bridge.
"Command, we're just entering the city." Sergeant Mighty listened to the responses on the radio.
"Confirmed. Convoy ETA, five minutes." He said to the military technicians, who were mounting several cameras. No one noticed that one of the technicians affixing a small device to one of the cables, which also gave what the camera saw to an apartment building near by.
"We're set." Ray announced into a mic.
"Come on back." Espio said. Shadow and his team had turned this apartment into a command center of their own. While watching the camera's he drank from his new cup of coffee in disgust.
"You said this was Spagonia Roast." He growled at Charmy, who then held up the jar of coffee in question. "More cream." The hedgehog said defeated. Vector poured milk into the drink, still tasted horrible. The monitors they were watching showed the dump trucks forming a circle, their ends facing each other. Mighty and Tails stood by watching this spectacle.
"I sure hope your plan works."
"I'm kind of hoping the same thing." Tails admitted. The truck, in concert, began to dump their load, spilling tons and tons of fish into the cricle that had been set up eariler. Shadow and his crew looked on.
"Insane?" Vector asked.
"No...very clever." Shadow said leaning forward. The mountain of fish towered over all who were close. Men were busy throwing fish onto the pile
"That's a lot of fish." Tails said. Mighty shot him a glare, then moved over to his men. They all then marched inside a building. Soldiers then began loading up their rifles, taking positions and taking hold of gas mask, just to be safe. The tanks move into their final position, then the waiting game began. They waited...and waited...and waited...until several hours had passed.
"Come on, where is he?" Mighty asked impatiently. Tails was looking at the fish, then he noticed something. Steam rising out of the sewers, slightly blocked by the covered.
"We need to get rid of these man hole covers!" He said to Mighty. "We want him to smell the bait." Mighty sent Tails and several soldiers out to removed the lids, being careful that the monster didnt pop out from one. Tails looked down the street. "Give me a crowbar." A soldier handed him one. Then he ran to the last manhole and pried the cover off. Satisfied, it was here he noticed the slight vibration on the ground. He looked at the lid, which was moving so wildly, it knocked the crowbar into the sewer. Tails listened as a very familiar groan filled the air. Backing slowly away from the hole, the ground beneath him began to split. Scrambling backwards now, Tails pressed up against a wall, stared only in horror and amazement as the creature known as Godzilla rose up the road, splitting it as he does.
The monster roared as it rose up, then he noticed Tails against the wall. Frozen where he stood, Tails could only watch as the monster got it face within inches of Tails. Out of the corner of his eyes, Tails saw soldiers slowly approached, so he waved them off out of fear. The monster sniffed, then roared right at Tails, but sensing he posed no danger, it walked over Tails, stomping its way over to the fish. Tails tried keeping up with it. On the buildings Mighty saw the beast walk by, then had to cover as it knocked debris down upon them. Godzilla finally came to a stop at the fish. Cautiously, it bent down and began eating it up. Mighty peeked out from his spot.
"We're gonna need bigger guns..."
At HQ the cameras went out, meaning Knuckles couldnt see what was happening.
"Fire at the target!" He yelled into the headset.
"FIRE! FIRE AT WILL!" Mighty shouted at gunfire broke out at the monster. Godzilla roared at the interruption, then turn to flee. Tails, unfortunately, was in the way. The monster accidentally knocked over a statue, causing it to fall, nearing crushing Tails. As the monster ran tanks and rockets were fired rapidly at it from all angles, Godzilla ducked down, causing the missiles to strike a very important building in the city. Men ran out of the way as the beast stomped over tanks, crushing many that couldnt get out of the way in time.
"O'Neal, what the hell is going on?!" Knuckles barked into a radio.
"He's gone, Sir. Echo division's in pursuit!" Mighty reported at four armored vehicles came skidding around the corner in hot pursuit. As they fired clips into the monster back, as they turned a corner, Godzilla turned around, and roared loudly, sending a wave of fire, and vehicles at the military, scorching anyone who was following it. Four Cobra Helicopter kept up the chase, keeping close behind it.
"We have him, locked on."
"Then fire damn it!" Knuckles ordered. Godzilla moved out of the way right as missiles shot at him, completely destroying Time Square. As the beast raced down the street the helicopter fired again, this time not only missing the monster, but completely taking out the top half of the Chrysler Building. They watched as the top fell, crushing anything or anyone that was below it.
"That is a negative impact." Mayor Eggman, in the back of the room looked furious.
"Negative impact!? It's the goddamned Chrysler building, that's what it is!"
"You said he was locked on!" Knuckles shouted into the radio.
"The heat seekers can't lock. He's colder than the buildings around him." The pilot said as the chase continued. They watched as the monster dived into an office building. They had him boxed in. The four copters lined up, then unleashed every ounce of fire power they had into the hole. As fire rained out from it, a roar was heard.
"I think we got him." Just then the building behind them erupted as Godzilla pounced out snapping up two helicopters up in one bite. The two remaining helicopters attempted to flee, only for one to be swatted out of the air, sent crashing into a building. At HQ Knuckles was steaming mad.
"Echo four, where is he!?" The last remaining helicopter swerved to avoid being eaten up.
"I'm trying to shake him!" After a few minutes of this, he flew calmly. "Ok...I think I lost him." He never noticed Godzilla jump up from under him...
At HQ Knuckles was beyond furious, but not as mad as Eggman.
"What the hell is the matter with you people?! You caused more damage than that thing did!" Empty and devastated Tails, Mighty an several men looked at the damaged. Tails bent down and scooped up what appeared to be blood, meaning the military had at least struck the monster. Thinking this could be important, Tails scooped the blood into a glass container.
"I can't believe it." Miighty said in disbelief. "He did all this and we did nothing to him."
"Oh that's not true. We fed him." Tails said, looking at the now empty circle they were standing in.
"This isnt gonna be easy." Vector said. "That was enough fire power to win a small war, and even that couldnt defeat it!"
"They're going to need a lot more then that to win this fight." Shadow said.
"What do they need? A nuke?" Knuckles asked.
"Now lets not get carried away." Tails said. "Let's continue."
