"What is wrong Bekah?" Caroline asked as she spotted her in the living room with Alex, Kol and Bonnie behind her. She gave her a worried look.
"I-I can't tell you." She replied, looking behind them. Caroline looked behind her to see Klaus.
"Aunt Bekah, if this is some sort of attempt to bring Klaus and I back to being father and son, it won't work." Alex stated, not even giving his father a glance. He could just feel his presence. Klaus licked his lips, glancing down before he looked up at Caroline.
"We have some things to discuss about our daughter." He started. Caroline clicked her tongue, making a sour smile as her hands went to her hips.
"Oh, now it's 'our' daughter?" She questioned. "Because the last I know of, I was a single mother for over 100 years!"
"Caroline, please, hear me out and after this you can go back to hating me." He said, staring at her with pleading eyes. She let her hands loose as she looked around the room before she looked at him.
"What's the problem we need to discuss and that Bekah couldn't tell me through the phone?"
"I'd prefer if you would take a seat before I tell you." He suggested, motioning towards his couch.
"Just get on with it Nik!" Kol urged. Klaus inhaled and exhaled a breath in annoyance.
"I am doing it for her own good! Now if you could please!" He exclaimed. Caroline cleared her throat before she went to take a seat. She was beginning to worry, what did he need to talk to her about and it was so needed for her to take a seat?
"I'm seated Klaus! Just tell me what is wrong!" She stated in exasperation. Klaus turned around to not face them. He didn't know how to tell her without her panicking. He had a plan, that was for sure, but he just wanted her to know what was going on before someone else told her….like Rebekah. With a sharp intake of breath, he turned back around.
"Emily was taken." He quickly said, just like ripping off a bandaid. Quick but painful.
Caroline's eyes bulged out as she stood up. Her heart started to quicken as she began to hyperventilate. "What!? You-no! What?" She stuttered. Alex went towards his mother, taking her into a comforting hug as he glared at Klaus.
"Nik, what do you know?" Kol asked.
"The person who took her, seeks vengeance against me." He replied and Caroline's cry echoed through the house. She flashed towards Klaus, she began to hit his chest, catching him off guard.
"It's your bloody stupid fault that my daughter is in harm's way! If we would of stayed away from you she would still be with me!" She yelled. Klaus regained his composure as he grabbed her hands and he stopped her petty assault to him. "My daughter!" She whispered defeatedly. Klaus wasn't sure what came over him, but he wrapped his arms around her and she surprisingly let him comfort her.
"I promise you that I will get her back to you. She will be safe and sound. I will kill every single person who dared to lay one finger on her." Klaus told her.
"We are here to help." Kol added.
"I will help but not because of you-" Alex looked at Klaus. "-but because I love my sister and I hate the thought of her being kidnapped."
"Understandable." Klaus replied as he released Caroline from his grip. She looked up at him.
"I want in on helping." She stated.
"Me too." Rebekah added.
"I can not allow that." Klaus replied. "You two can't fight and I can't have weak ones in battle."
"Well how many did you actually screw over Klaus?" Alex questioned.
"I don't want weak ones and that's final." He ended before he flashed out of the room. Caroline balled her hands into fists.
"I will not stand by and not help get Emily back!" She mostly told herself before she followed Klaus. They ended up in the woods behind Klaus' mansion.
"Why are you following me Caroline?"
"I won't take your sexism! I will go and help with this project because I won't stand idly by while you go on and save the day!" She spat. Klaus turned to look at her. "I want in on the plan to save my daughter! I am as strong as you when it comes to my children!"
"Emily is my daughter too!" He exploded."Don't just say that she is your daughter because whether you like it or not sweetheart, the fact is that Emily is my daughter as well!" Caroline rolled her eyes as she crossed her arms against her chest. "Even if you don't believe it, I do love my children." She noticed he didn't say that he loved her too and that hurt her more than she would admit to herself.
"You lost the right to call her that when you decided that making your own breed was more important than her." She replied, blinking away the unshed tears. "What kind of a father abandons their own children for something that isn't a certainty!?"
"I didn't leave Caroline! You took them away from me!" He defended, taking a step towards her. She shook her head as she made a sour smile. Was he actually trying to put the fault on her? He was projecting and she won't allow to be put to blame for something she didn't do.
"No!" She pointed at him. "You had a choice Klaus! You just chose the wrong one and we were not going to stay to be ignored! Alexander was the one who had come up with that plan; he wanted to leave because he didn't feel loved by his own father!"
"And you think that didn't hurt me! Do you believe that I was thrilled that my family had disappeared from my life? That there was a high chance that I would never see your faces ever again in my life?"
"If you wanted to see us, all you had to do was at least try to look for us. We weren't in hiding Klaus." She replied. "But you didn't and now it's too late to make amends." She turned around as she began to walk away from him. "I'm going to help with getting my daughter back whether you like it or not."
"Niklaus." Elijah greeted, entering Klaus' study.
"'Lijah, long time no see." He replied, in an uncaring tone. "Where have you been?"
"I had some unimportant business to tend to." He brushed off. "I heard Emily has been kidnapped?"
"Yes she has and it's all because of me." Klaus answered feeling extremely guilty. He took another drink. "What kind of a father has his daughter kidnapped?"
"Who was it Niklaus?"
"Do you recall when we had visited the beautiful city of New Orleans and we had mutually decided that it was a perfect place for a vampire to live in?"
"I do recall that distant memory."
"Well, after many years, I will finally reveal the reason, that I did not think was important at all, as to why we had to leave that adoring place." He sat to look at Elijah. "Marcel, the supposed King of New Orleans had lost his crown and men to me. All was good in my life until he came to me and he shared some information he had acquired." Elijah knitted his eyebrows together in confusion.
"What was that information?"
"Marcel decided to use my family against me. He had found out about Caroline and the kids. He threatened to kill them if I did not resign and leave New Orleans in that moment." He took another drink. "I might have called out his bluff and then he showed me a video of one of his men becoming quite friends with Alexander."
"That is why you asked me to find out where they were living." Elijah realized. "Not because you wanted to see them, but because you wanted to protect them." Klaus eyed him before he looked back at his drink, remembering that memory.
"I took a small trip to New York, at the time, and I killed the men that were threatening to kill my family. I went back to New Orleans and did my famous killing spree on that abomination of a man before I made you all leave. Marcel came to me, he wasn't too fond of my slip up but instead of hearing more threats, I just left that moment. While I walked away, he promised he would make me regret my indiscretions."
"And he did."
"That he did indeed." Klaus agreed. "Now I have to go and kill everyone that had a part in it."
"I would usually side against murder but in this situation, I crave it the same as you do." Elijah stated. He unbuttoned his suit jacket. "We leave this minute, we can not waste one more second."
"We must act quick before Caroline comes and demands to go as well."
"No need to worry for that anymore Klaus because I am going." She stated as she entered the study with a duffel bag. "I have the car running, let's go."
"You are going to let her go?" Klaus asked Elijah.
"She's the mother and has every right to fight for Emily."
Klaus exhaled a breath before he got up from his seat and he walked towards Caroline. "Let me be clear Caroline, I won't be saving you if you get in trouble. Those men we are going up against, they are ruthless and do not care that you are a woman. They will torture you until you beg them to kill you and at that point, you will remember that you should have obeyed me when I told you not go." He said and then he walked out of the study.
"Uh-" She breathed out. "-that was intense."
"He says that because he does not wish to see you in pain. Even if he seems like he dislikes you, it's all an act because he is protecting himself from becoming too attached with you and your children again. He knows very well that he can not fix what he broke and he just wants to prevent himself from getting another heartbreak." Elijah told her sympathetically. "But I'm afraid Niklaus is correct; these men live by no morals, they are outed to the city and they can be their real selves, they have no boundaries. Just be careful for you and Emily."
"I will have that in mind." She replied. Elijah excused himself from the study, leaving Caroline with her thoughts. She knew that she still wanted to leave to get her daughter back, but she was getting a little afraid. Klaus did show her how to fight for a small portion of their marriage and she could barely remember what he showed her. She will just have to pray that she will remember the little that she took in and that all goes well. She is on the side of Klaus, 3 other originals, the all mighty original's son and an overprotective mother that wants their baby girl back. Their chances of winning this fight looked pretty well.
With that little pep talk, she walked out of the mansion and towards her car. She sat on the back seat while Kol was in front driving and Alex was on the passenger seat.
"We ready to go?" Alex asked.
"Yeah, we are going to get your sister back." Caroline replied.
"How did Nik react to you going behind his wishes?" Kol asked.
"He wasn't too pleased when he found out about that information. He gave me a strong argument so that I would change my mind but his words do nothing to me. Nothing can change a mother's instinct of wanting to protect their child."
"And that I applaud to you mom." Alex added with a warm smile. Caroline now felt more confident in doing this.
Emily woke up in a dark room, seated in a chair, tied up with ropes laced with vervain. When she tried to move her wrist, she felt a pain that she had never experienced before. What was this? Where was she?
"Mom!? Mom!? Where am I?"She screamed, making a petty attempt to escape the ropes. She felt extremely weak against them. "Help! Please! This hurts!" She moved again, letting a cry out. "Alexander! This isn't funny! This is torture!"
"This isn't your brother honey." She heard a low voice tell her. She tried to look around the room but nothing was visible, the room was pitch black.
A door creaked open and the small ray of light, brightened the room. She adjusted her eyes to the new light as she watched a figure move towards her. With the form of the body, she could acknowledge that it was a man. "Who are you?" She asked.
"I'm a friend of your daddy's." He responded, crouching down to her eye level. "Marcel."
"Why am I here?"
"You are sadly the piece of meat I needed to lure your dad back to New Orleans." He replied. "See, he made the mistake of undermining me and I am just taking my vengeance on you."
"B-but-" She stuttered.
"It's nothing personally honey, I'm just trying to make a point and you were the best way to make it." He told her. "You're his daughter and if I kill you, I know I can kill him as well."
Emily's eyes widened as she attempted to move out of the chair. "No! Please, you can't do this!"
"I'm sorry but it was your mistake to be a Mikaelson." He stated, not at all apologetic. "Enjoy your life while you have it because once I get sight of your loving father, you and him are history."
Emily cried. She cried at the thought of her life ending. She cried at the thought of her father dying. She cried for the heartbreak of her mother and Alex. She cried for anyone that was close to her. "You're pathetic." She hissed.
"Not as much as your father."
"My father may be many things but he isn't a cold hearted bastard as you that would seek enjoyment in the misery of others!" Marcel laughed at that.
"I will have to strongly disagree with you honey." He stated. "Your father was or is worse than me. Let's just say this is Karma coming to bite him on the ass."
"No." She whispered. "He isn't."
"Convince yourself otherwise, but I know your father, maybe even a little bit better than you judging by how much you know of his known hobby of killing people for sport." Emily shook her head, trying to ignore those awful thoughts of her father.
"If he is how you say he is, than why stoop down to his level? Why kidnap me and torture me with these hell giving ropes?!"
He moved closer to her. "Because just like he took the one person I loved most, I will do the exact same to him. He needs to know the pain I went through and when I watch his world crumble down in his eyes, I will gladly plunge the white oak stake straight through his cold dead heart." He sneered as a tear fell from his eye.
"Revenge is never the answer." Emily replied. "In the end, all you will be doing is adding to the pain. You have to move on from this and learn to let things go. By killing my father and me, it would be like if you were killing the one you loved most because you are stooping down to his level."
"Revenge is all I have." He whispered before he flashed out of the room.
