A/N I saw a few comments on twitter from folks wondering what a Callie/Arizona friendship would look like, so here's my idea of how it could go for them.

Chapter 18

Amelia has a sleepy Sofia in her arms as they walk out to Arizona's car. "So why do you think that chick is too clingy for Callie?" She can't help but ask, since they only had a few minutes to observe them together.

"Let's just say I've been there and done that." Arizona says climbing into the car.

Slipping into the passenger seat, Amelia looks over at her friend, "Y-you dated her?" She asks.

"Not exactly, I met her at a club and danced with her, got her number. Didn't call her, then ran in to her every time I went out. When I was out with Nicci, we joked about her being my stalker. Then when Nicci and I stopped seeing each other, I ran into her again and she came on to me real strong. Told me that I broke her heart. God, I hope she doesn't remember me, that was like 6 years ago and my hair was shorter." Arizona says suddenly worried. "Anyway, I guess I should tell Callie."

"You may not have to worry about it, she hightailed it once she saw the little one and heard ex-wife." Amelia says pointing to the back seat.

"Well, I should let Callie know anyway. I wonder how she met her?" The blonde asks suddenly turning to look at Amelia as she stops at the light.

Amelia flushes and looks away, but Arizona sees her reflection in the window.

"Wait. You know how they met?" She reaches out to grab her friend's arm. "Tell me!"

"No, I promised. All I knew was that she had a date tonight..." Realizing that she's giving away too much info, Amelia stops talking.

"Hmm, so it was either a blind date, or" she pauses "Wait, she had Owen on a dating site last month and it was a disaster. But Callie is impulsive, so of course she put up her own profile." Arizona says thinking aloud.

Pulling up to her condo, Arizona looks over at Amelia. "Wait your car isn't here, is it at the hospital?"

"Yes, but I don't care. I just want to shower, eat and lay down. This has been the longest day." She says getting out of the car.

Turning around to see Steven already opening the door to get Sofia out for them. Amelia grabs their bags and Arizona hands her the house key.

"I'll park the car and meet you up there. Just let Steven carry her all the way up." Arizona says winking at her friend.

Pulling her phone out of her coat pocket, Arizona sees several messages from Lauren asking her to call. Sending a text to see if she's awake. The blonde smiles when her phone rings. "Hey." She says thickly.

"Hey darlin', are you still at work?" She asks softly in her sleepy southern drawl.

"Mmm, we're just getting home. Sofia and I took Amelia to dinner and then I had to go back to the hospital to check on a patient. So here we are just getting home."

"We?" Lauren asks confused. "Oh you and Sofia." She reminds herself.

Stepping off the elevator, Arizona yawns as she enters the apartment. 'Well Amelia and Sofia." She corrects her girlfriend.

"Oh. Amelia is there again?" She can't help but ask, even though she knows that they are just friends. She can't help but be annoyed that someone else is there with Arizona doing the things that she wishes she was there to do.

"Yes, hold on a sec." She says into the phone as Amelia enters the room. "Thanks, go ahead and grab a shower."

"Tell Lauren I said hello and she really missed some fun tonight." Amelia calls out as she leaves the room.

"W-what did I miss? Besides everything." She adds sarcastically.

"Nothing, just a little lesbian drama with Callie. Apparently she's on a dating site and we accidentally interrupted her date tonight." Arizona explains.

"Oh god, poor Callie doesn't she know how many crazy chicks you can meet on those sites?" Lauren replies.

"Speaking from experience, Dr. Boswell?" Arizona teases.

"Not personal experience. My dating troubles are caused by my travel and having crushes on doctors who live too far away." She replies sweetly.

"Smooth doctor, real smooth. Well this town is really not this small, but Callie managed to go out with a woman who used to stalk me at the clubs when I first moved here." Arizona says laughing.

"Oh no! Have you told her yet?" Lauren asks.

"No, she was trying to say good bye and rushed off to the ER when we showed up and Sofia ran to her yelling 'Mami'." Arizona can't help but laugh again remembering the look on the woman's face.

"Ok enough of this, babe what's going on?" Arizona asks.

"Well, I'm not sure that I'll be able to pick you up at the airport on Monday. I have a surgery scheduled, but the hospital is going to send you a car." She says disappointed.

"Lauren just know that I can't wait to see you." Arizona says with a long sigh as she slumps on to the couch.

"Me too." The dark blonde says, "Okay, well it's Friday night so just a few days from now..."

"Hmm, maybe we can skype in the morning with Sofia, I think you've put a spell on her. I've never seen her sit so still before and focus like that." Arizona says sleepily.

Laughing, she replies "Okay, I'll let you go. You sound as tired as I am. Sweet dreams sweet girl."

"Good night Lauren. I- I can't wait to see you." She says catching herself from saying I love you again.

"You okay Zo?" Amelia says walking into the living room.

"Yeah, I just really need to see her again. My head and heart are making me crazy. It's only been a week and I already can't imagine not being with her. That's crazy right? We barely know each other." The blonde asks.

"I think you probably know her better than you think. Arizona you don't let people in very easily, but when you do, you really open up and that's pretty powerful stuff." Amelia says sitting down beside her friend. "I have to admit, I've never had a friend like you. I am closer to you than I am with Addison, don't tell her that. You are the sister, I never had and I have three sisters." She adds smiling.

Smiling and leaning over onto her shoulder, Arizona says softly, "You're the sister I never had and didn't know that I needed." Tearing up, she adds. "You're an amazing friend and my daughter adores you, so you better hope that I can get Dr. Boswell to move here or you'll have to move to Texas with me."

"Wouldn't that be cozy! Of course, then you'd have to get Callie and Sofia to move, but that probably wouldn't be that hard, since Houston is closer to her old Miami lifestyle than Seattle." Amelia adds laughing.

"Okay, let's not even follow that train of thought any further. In fact, I'm going to go shower." She says standing up and yawning.

Climbing in to bed beside her friend, Arizona says "Amy? "I'm sorry that I monopolized your Friday night," the blonde says apologizing.

"No worries, Zo. You're helping me avoid Owen though and that's probably for the best." She says turning to face her friend.

"Well, don't feel like you have to stay around tomorrow. You can take my car to the hospital and leave it there. I'll get it later." She says sleepily.

"Okay..." Amelia says drifting off.

Waking up first, Arizona heads into the kitchen to make coffee after she checks on Sofia to make sure she's still asleep. Checking her phone she sees a text from Callie from late last night asking her to call her in the morning. It's pretty early, especially considering that it's Saturday. Instead of calling, she sends a text telling her ex to call when she wakes up. Looking up from her phone she hears Sofia's little feet coming down the hall, pausing at her bedroom door.

"Hey baby girl!" She calls softly and Sofia spins around and almost falls over. Then runs over to her. "Good morning baby, did you sleep well?" Arizona asks her moving to sit on a dining room chair so the little girl can climb up on her lap. She's pretty loving when she's waking up and Arizona can't hold her when she's on her crutches.

Rubbing her face into Arizona's neck, Sofia makes little noises as she wakes up. This is one of Arizona's favorite times of the day with her daughter. Reaching for her tablet, she sets it up quickly and calls Lauren.

As the call connects, Lauren is bright eyed, "Hey y'all are up early!" She says smiling at the sight before her.

"Yeah, we are just waking up and I wanted to share my little sleepyhead with you." Arizona says smiling at Lauren.

"Aw, well it's s-o so good to see you, Sofia? Sofia are you still sleeping?" Lauren asks her gently teasing the little girl to look at her.

"Hi Lauren." She says quickly looking up, then burying her head back in Arizona's neck.

Lauren just beams through the screen. "I am so jealous. Arizona, that is so sweet. Is this every morning?"

"No, we don't always have time for this during the week. Plus we usually don't stay up so late." She admits. "I'm really surprised that she's up so early myself."

"I'm so glad you called. I-I missed seeing you so much. And this little face is such a bonus." She adds.

"Lauren?" Sofia's little voice pipes up. "Come over for pancakes!"

"Oh Sofia, I wish that I could, but I live too far away." Lauren tells her.

"Where are you?" The little girl asks.

"I'm in Texas, Sofia. Do you know where Texas is?" Lauren asks.

Shaking her head no, she looks up at Arizona. "Momma, can we go to Texas?"

"Well, Sofia actually, Momma is going to Texas next week for work, remember?"

"Will you visit Lauren?" The little girl asks.

"Yes, baby I will visit Lauren. And we'll call you when you're with Aunt Amy, okay?" Arizona tells her daughter.

"Okay, Momma?" Sofia says looking up sweetly with a bit of an ornery look on her face. "Can I go wake up Aunt Amy now?" She asks squirming to get down.

"Baby, let her sleep." Arizona tries to grab her as she slips off her lap, but she is too fast. Dropping her head in her hands, she looks up at Lauren.

"Okay, well it's about to get chaotic here." Arizona says laughing, listening to Amelia and Sofia go through their morning wake up game. "Can you hear the squealing?"

"Yes." Lauren says smiling at the blonde through the screen. "Arizona?" She says waiting for her to look back at the screen.

"Arizona, I don't know how else to say this but I think I'm falling for you and your daughter." Lauren says tenderly.

"Oh Lauren, I'm so relieved because I was really worried that I was alone in this." She says softly.

"Nah, it sounds like we're still on the same page, same book." She says with her honeyed drawl.

Reaching out to touch the screen as Lauren does the same. They both look longingly at each other for a moment, until they hear the clomping down the hall.

"Momma, Aunt Amy is gonna make pancakes!" Sofia yells excitedly. Then waves to Lauren as she runs back up to Arizona.

"Hey Lauren!" Amelia says as she walks over to the coffee pot. Seeing that Arizona doesn't have one she pours two cups and walks back around and hands one to the blonde.

"Thanks Amy." Arizona says taking a sip. Then waiting as Amelia reaches over and sets the sugar bowl in front of her and hands her a spoon.

"Okay, well it's been good to wake up with y'all. But I've got to get going." Lauren drawls. "Zo, let's talk again later?"

"Absolutely. Baby, have a good day!" The blonde says waving goodbye and disconnects the call.

Fixing her coffee, she looks over at her friend. "You don't have to make pancakes. Sofia, do you want Momma to make french toast?"

"No Momma French toast is with Mami, not Aunt Amy." Sofia says as if that should make perfect sense to everyone.

Chapter 19

Pulling into the lot, Arizona's phone rings and she see's that its Callie. She says good bye to Amy and takes the call.

"Hey Callie, what's going on?" She asks answering the phone.

"Good morning, I'm going to be downtown later and wondered if you had time for a visit. I don't want to interrupt your day, but I want to see you before you go out of town." She explains.

"Oh, sure. That could work. We're out right now. I've got to run errands today and pack tomorrow." Arizona replies.

"Where are you right now?" Callie asks.

"Actually, we just dropped Amelia off at the hospital." The blonde answers.

"Oh, well hold on. I'm here too. I stayed the night after my surgery. Why don't I take Sofia for a few hours so you can get your errands done?" Callie suggests.

"Okay, thanks. That would be awesome. I can just swing by the house later than and pick her up."

"Maybe, just let us know when you're done. We may still be down that way. I'm actually meeting Meredith at the Pike's Place for lunch." Callie explains.

"Well, are you sure that you want Sofia with you? I can take her with me..." Arizona trails off as she sees Callie walking up to the car.

Hanging up the phone she starts to get out of the car, when Callie climbs in. "Hi." Arizona says smiling.

"Hi girls!" Callie says leaning around the seat to kiss her daughter's hand.

"Mami, we're gonna have french toast tomorrow, you have to come over!" Sofia says excitedly.

"Oh, Momma makes the best french toast!" Callie says enthusiastically. "We'll see Sofia."

"Calliope, now I feel like I'm monopolizing your weekend and I'm going away for two weeks." Arizona says feeling guilty.

"It's okay Zo. I don't mind spending time with m-m- you girls." Callie says correcting herself from saying 'my girls'.

"I'll take Sofia, Meredith won't care. She's just happy to be able to shop without her kids. I think Maggie offered to spend the day over there." Callie explains.

"Okay, if you're sure." Arizona says. "Where's your car?"

"Oh right. My car is at the restaurant from last night." She says embarrassed, as she recalls last night.

"Okay, now this is weird." Arizona says putting the car in gear.

After dropping them off at Callie's car, Arizona considers now what she needs to get done. She has a list for the grocery store, but now that Sofia's not with her, she wants to go clothes shopping. Heading to her favorite store, she smiles. Now she can focus on what she needs to pack since she's spending the next two weeks with Lauren in Houston.

Pulling up out front, Arizona is pleased to see Roberto coming out to help her. "Roberto!" She says greeting him warmly and giving him a little side hug.

"Dr. Robbins. Where is your little princess?" Roberto asks looking in to see the seat empty.

"She's having lunch with Callie, Roberto. Can you get a cart? I went overboard at the grocery store today. I'm going out of town for 2 weeks, and Dr Shepherd will be staying here and taking care of Sofia" She says embarrassed by all the bags in her car.

"No problem, Dr. Robbins. I'll get it all unloaded for you." He says sweetly.

As he takes the last package out of the trunk. She turns around and he holds out his hand for her keys. "I'll have the valet park your car and I'll meet you at the elevator, Doctor." He explains, waving the valet over to him.

"Thank you Roberto." She says moving over to the elevator.

As she's putting stuff away, Callie calls. The blonde reaches over and answers it on speaker phone. "Hey Cal. I just got home."

"Oh good timing. We just got back to the car. We'll be there in a few minutes. Oh and someone desperately needs a n-a-p." She says carefully.

"Yay! That's awesome news." Roberto is expecting you, just pull up out front and he'll bring you up." She reminds her ex.

Humming as she puts everything away in the pantry, stopping to organize it. She jumps when she hears the door open.

"Oh hey, do you need help?" Arizona ask softly. But Callie shakes her head no and carries Sofia down the hall and puts her to bed.

Coming back down the hall, she pauses at Arizona's room. She sees new clothes laying out on the bed.

"I don't mean to be nosy, but that leather jacket is beautiful. Is that for your trip?" Callie asks coming back in to the kitchen.

"I'm not sure what I'm taking. I need to look at the weather and everything. Two weeks, seems like a long time. Doesn't it?" She asks sitting down at the island.

"It does actually." Callie admits. "Hey about last night..." She starts to say.

"Wait, Callie. If we're going to have this conversation. I need a glass of wine." Arizona says jumping up to grab two glasses and bottle out of the fridge. "Join me?" She asks showing Callie the bottle is from their favorite winery.

Laughing the Latina nods and waits for the blonde to sit back down.

"I just wanted to say that wasn't what it looked like, last night I mean." Callie tries to explain.

"It's fine Callie. I've seen you kiss other people. I have kissed other people." Arizona says taking a sip of her wine. "What I really want to know is why in the hell would you go out with my stalker?"

"Your stalker?" Callie says confused. "Nadia said that she doesn't even know you?"

"Well, I know her. Callie, she's the one that Nicci and I used to joke about getting the restraining order for!" Arizona says.

"OH, oh shit." Callie says stunned. "That's the stalker chick that followed you and Nicci around Seattle when you first moved here?"

"Callie how did you even meet her? You don't really go out to lesbian bars?" Arizona asks her, waiting to see if she'll admit that she's on a dating site.

"You know she hasn't replied to my text from last night anyway. Perhaps it was all my baggage showing up on the first date" Callie says laughing out loud and taking a big drink of wine.

"Too much competition. I'm sure." Arizona adds, smiling.

"This isn't as weird as I thought it would be." She admits.

"It's not." The blonde agrees. "So this may make it weird." She says pausing to take a drink of her wine.

"I've introduced Sofia to Lauren by Skype." Arizona says waiting for Callie's reaction.

Pausing to take another sip of wine, Callie considers what she just heard. Stunned as this means Arizona is serious about Boswell.

"Wow, Arizona. Are you that sure about her?" Callie asks calmly.

"I am." The blonde replies simply.

"Well, okay then." Callie says. Then adds, "This is me trying to be cool about this. But could we please change the topic now."

Nodding, Arizona looks away for a moment and catches her breath. Relieved at Callie's response. She decides to find a more comfortable topic.

"I just read about the new TMR study for upper arm amputees, is that similar to what you're doing with below the knee amputees? She asks.

"Uh, yeah. Acutally, it's pretty similar. But we just expanded our program to above the knee amputees. It's a lot more complicated, because now the patient has to not only control the ankle and foot, but also the knee." She explains. "And I am hoping to get Amelia involved. I need to replace Derek, since he's not here enough to be the neuro on the project. But I'm not sure how long, she's planning to stay in Seattle." Callie adds.

"I think she'd stay. Especially if she was involved in a project like that." Arizona adds.

"You really think she would?" The Latina asks, sipping her wine. "She's kind of blowing Owen off lately." Callie says.

"Yeah, I know. It's kind of my fault. But I think she also just uses me as an excuse to do it. He's been a little bit clingy lately." Arizona tries to smooth things over for Amelia with Callie.

"Oh god. Remember how he was with Christina? I forgot about that. That would make me crazy. Hovering and always helping." Callie shudders at the memory. "Speaking of, I think I'm in love with Roberto and I may have to sell the house and move into this building." She jokes.

"He's kind of amazing." Arizona admits.

"It's like being back home at my parents house. Arizona, it's funny for me to see you this way because I grew up like this and I never would have pegged you to live in a place like this." Callie says in wonder.

"Well, things change and people change." She says softly. "I'm not sure I ever would've moved into a building like this three years ago." She admits.

Taking a sip of her wine, Callie realizes what Arizona means and for a moment, she can't breathe. Taking a deep breath, she gets up and walks over to the windows to look out at the sea.

Realizing what she just said, Arizona walks over to Callie. "Hey, I didn't mean it like that, this isn't about losing my leg as much as it is about how life changes you." She says softly, reaching out to touch Callie's shoulder and turn her around.

"I know. Thank you. But still, there's so much truth in that. It still hurts to think about how I almost lost you, then did lose you." Callie says softly turning around, tears sliding down her face. "Losing your leg affected me too."

'Yeah, Cal. I know." Arizona says reaching out to wipe away a tear and pull her into an embrace.

Holding each other a moment, they both let go and cry a bit. Pulling away. Callie looks up at her ex and leans in to kiss her softly on the lips. "I love you Arizona. I will always love you." She whispers.

"I love you too Callie." She says pulling away and wiping another tear away. Then to lighten the mood, she adds, "You are so amazing. But please get off the dating site. We don't need more crazy around here," she says smiling.

"I'm going to kill Little Shepherd! She wasn't supposed to tell you!" Callie says moving over to get a tissue and holding the box out to the blonde.

"Well, it wasn't hard to figure out. None of your friends would have introduced you to Nadia, so you either met her at a club, but then your friends would have told you about her. Or you met her on-line." Arizona says smugly.

"Good lord, this has been a hell of an afternoon. Is there anything else that we need to process?" Callie asks sarcastically. "Oh wait, I know. Why don't you show me your new clothes that you bought for Houston?"

"Callie stop. We're not doing that." Arizona says sitting back down and taking another sip of wine. "Wait, are you hungry? I didn't eat lunch today." She says as getting up and walking over to the fridge.

Returning with a small cheese and fruit tray, she sets it down between them. "I have to confess, this is one of my new guilty pleasures."

"Damn, that looks good. Is this from La Pais?" Callie asks.

"Yes, don't judge me." She says, "That's really good", she points at the cheese, "but I can't remember the name of it."

"Oh that is good." Callie says.

After a few moments of silence and them picking over the fruit and cheese tray. Callie asks, "You should at least try on the leather jacket?"

Smiling Arizona bolts for her room. She takes a moment to change her shirt and jeans, then comes back out with the jacket on. "I've been dying to do this since I got home!" She confesses.

"That looks amazing on you. But you need boots to go with it." Callie suggests.

Turning back around, Arizona comes back out of her room, with the perfect pair of boots. "I still need to have this one stretched more for my prosthetic foot", she admits.

"Those are great though. I love it." Callie says smiling. "See that wasn't so weird."

"Until now, dork!" Arizona turns around to go back into her room.

"No, don't change. It looks nice. Come back here and sit down." Callie tells her.

"You are so bossy. I know where Sofia gets it now." She jokes.

"Yeah, right." Callie replies.

Just then they hear little feet coming down the hall. "Hey baby girl!" Arizona says moving towards her daughter.

"Momma, I just woke up." The little girl says sleepily. "I thought I heard Mami" She says into Arizona's neck.

Smiling at her ex, Arizona turns around so that Callie can whisper into her daughter's ear.

Hearing her Mami's voice, the little girl's head pops up so quickly she almost smashes into Callie's face.

"Mami! Mami!" Sofia says, reaching an arm over to pull Callie in, so she has an arm around each of them.

Laughing Callie sits back down and Sofia moves over to her.

"Momma, I'm hungry." Sofia says looking over at Arizona.

Looking at the clock on the stove, Arizona says, "Oh gosh. It's almost 6:30 pm." Then she reaches over to get her phone out her purse to check her messages.

Pausing a moment, Callie says, "Hey, why don't I whip up something for us to eat and you can return your missed calls?"

"No it's okay. You don't have to cook. We can just order out." Arizona offers.

"Didn't you just go to the grocery store? No, come on go call her and let me make dinner. I've been dying to cook in this kitchen!" Callie says shooing her away.

Standing up with Sofia on her hip, she moves over to the fridge, "Okay Mija, what should we have for dinner?"

Smiling, Arizona walks down the hall to her office. How will I explain this to Lauren she wonders?
