A few days later….
Hunter carried his new house guest into the house and sat her in the wheelchair. She looked around like a child who was just seeing the world for the first time. "It's big right. You'll get used to it. Come on. I'll show you your room." He took off fast down the hallway pushing her in the chair. She giggled and held on tight. In the room, she tried to stand up. The guest room was nice. He had gone through her things and found a few photos of her and her mom and put them by her bed. It was the only photos he saw where she was smiling. He put some of her things around the room hoping it would jog her memory. Zara got up and he helped her walk holding her up. She went to the photos and pointed at them and then herself. "Yes. That's you. I don't know who the lady is but, I think you were happy around her. You look like her. I figure she is your family." Zara shrugged not sure who it was.
She pointed at the photo then him."Oh. My family?" She grunted yes. "You will meet them. My mom is excited to meet you. She will be around to help you when I'm not. My dad is just like me. Jokes around all the time. Only old." He joked.
Zara smiled. She looked up at him and, ran her hand over his cheek and, grabbed her little whiteboard. "Thank you. This is nice. You are nice. I wish I remembered you. I feel like I know who you are. I keep trying to remember. I just can't."
"You will. And if you don't, you know me now." He hugged her. The doorbell went off. "You ok to take your chair to the living room?" She shook her head yes. He helped her back to the chair.
Opening the door Hunter saw his buddies Shawn Michaels and Kevin Nash standing there. "The cavalry has arrived! We have pizza and, old show videos. Where is this girl who needs to remember the old school Kliq?"
"Oh man. If anything, that may be the best thing for her to forget." Hunter laughed.
A grunt came from behind him. Hunter looked over his shoulder seeing Zara in her chair. She pointed at Shawn with a shocked look on her face. She held up her board. "Showstopper."
"Did you see him on the show the other night?" Hunter kneeled down next to her. She shook her head no and pointed to herself then her head. Over and over. "You remember him?"
On her board, she wrote fast, "Barbershop."
Shawn laughed, "She remembers the barbershop spot with Marty Jannetty. Yep, baby girl that was me. A long time ago. How do you remember that?" She blushed and made a heart over her heart and pointed at him. Then motioned that she was little. "Oh, you had a crush on me when you were younger. That's epic."
Hunter huffed, "You can't remember your own dang name but, you can remember this jackass?" She laughed and, shrugged. She pointed to Kevin asking who he was. "That's Kevin Nash. They call him Big Sexy." Hunter told her. She shook her head yes blushing and giggled. She pointed to all of them then pretend to faint, fanning her face.
"Well, she thinks we are all sexy, so that's a good sign she is feeling better." Kevin leaned over kissing her hand. "Nice to meet you, pretty lady. Hunter gives you shit, let me know. I'll come to kick his ass." Kevin grabbed her chair and took her into the living room.
Hunter and Shawn went into the kitchen to grab plates and drinks. "So, Hunter, how is she doing? That little memory was a good sign right?"
"I hope. The doctor says she may remember little things now and again. She saw a photo of herself and it was like she didn't even recognize who she is. I want to help her but, I don't even know anything about her to start. I don't know her old life."
"From the way her family treated her, maybe she doesn't need to. Maybe the key to this is showing her a new life. I have a question. Do you plan on being her caregiver forever? What if she doesn't get better. What if this is all there is? You going to leave the ring to become a nurse?" Shawn didn't mean to sound rude but, it was the reality of the situation.
"All there is? You just saw her. Even though she can't talk or remember, she knows a lot. She has been writing stories every day. I showed Vince and we both agree that it was even better than what she sent us before. I thought once she is feeling up to it I would show her some recent shows. See if maybe she could still work as a writer. You don't have to be able to talk or walk to write. And, so far her memory from waking up to now has been fine. Just everything before the shooting is gone. I hope those bastards rot in hell for what they did to her," Hunter huffed.
"At least there is hope then. Let's get in there. I want to get to know this woman who has turned my buddy into such a softy." Shawn joked.
