Matt wasn't surprised at all when Ruthie fell asleep shortly after they had all came back into the room. He looked at his family and sighed. "I think that it would be a good idea for us all to go out to the living room. Right now Ruthie needs all the rest that she can get."
Everyone nodded but it was Simon who said "We will leave the door cracked in case Ruthie needs something. Besides Autumn should be getting up for the rest of the day here soon."
"I cannot wait to meet my granddaughter. I just wish that Ruthie would have told us that she was pregnant when she left." Annie said with a slight smile and sigh.
Simon who led the way out of his bedroom and into the living room shook his head when he turned to look at his mother. "I'm telling you all now that I will not have you badgering Ruthie about the fact that she didn't tell any of you that she was pregnant. She had no doubt that if she had one of you would have told Martin and at that point she didn't want him to know after what she had just found out. When Ruthie left for Scotland she was hurting, scared, and down right pissed and she had every reason to be. Most of you took Martin's side instead of taking Ruthie's side. Do you even realize how that made her feel? She felt like she had lost her family. She made the only choice that was good for her at that point and I won't have any of you telling her otherwise. I also don't think that it needs to be said that none of you will go run and tell Martin that he has a daughter. Ruthie will tell him when and if she is ready. Right now she doesn't need any stress added onto what she is already feeling. Am I clear?"
Matt shot a smile at Simon before he looked at the rest of is family. "Simon is right that Ruthie doesn't need anymore stress added onto her baby. As it is I am going to find a way to get her to the hospital without being seen so that I can do an Ultrasound of the baby even though I am sure that he or she is alright. I don't know exactly what went down eighteen months ago but apparently it was bad enough that Ruthie felt like she had no option but to leave because of what happened. I'm telling you now the first person to stress Ruthie will be the first person not allowed to see her. I also think that Simon is right in not a single one of you telling that Martin that he is a father."
Eric sighed and nodded as he looked at his children and his children in law. "Not a single one of you are to tell anyone that Ruthie is back in town and that she has a daughter and is pregnant again. I'm to blame as much as everyone else on Ruthie feeling like she couldn't tell us she was pregnant when she left but that changes now. What matters right now is that my daughter is six months pregnant and has been hurt so badly that she flinches when someone touches her without her being the one to initiate the touch. Ruthie needs us right now and we will be there for her. We will help her through this. We will not badger her to talk about what happened. If she wants to talk further about what happened to her she will do so in her own time. And I think that it goes without saying if Ruthie talks to one of us then what she said stays with that person. We are going to have to build up her trust in us again. At least she trusted us enough to keep her safe so she came home. The only thing we can do is support her and make sure that we help her with whatever she needs helps with."
Kevin who had been silently listening finally spoke up and said "Let us all be clear her Ruthie has been seriously hurt and she will not get over it in one day or even one month. She is going to need a lot of time to get her thoughts and feelings on everything that happened to her in order. She is going to have moments where she will have flashbacks. She is going to have days and nights when she is sleeping that she will wake up screaming because of nightmares. She is going to have good and bad days. I also want it said just so that everyone can remember eighteen months ago I told every single one of you except Matt, Sara, Simon, and Sandy that you were all in the wrong for choosing sides like you did. Don't get me wrong I love Martin just like you all did but Ruthie should have come first because she was the one who was hurting. She had caught Martin with someone else and you all excused it just because he had been drunk at the time and didn't realize what he was doing. Being drunk doesn't excuse the fact that he cheated on Ruthie! It doesn't give him a free pass for what he had done to her but most of you thought that it did and that wasn't right or fair to Ruthie who has always done her best to help any and all of you had you needed it."
Lucy cringed at Kevin's words because she knew that he was one of the people that she was talking about. She sighed and ran a hand through her hair. "We don't talk about the past to Ruthie unless she is the one that brings it up. Right now we have other things to worry about. What are we going to do?"
Kevin rubbed a hand down his face. "I need Ruthie's cell phone so that I can send my cell the picture of Evan. I will talk to Sgt Michael's to let him know what is going on and what happened so that we can be on the lookout for any strangers that come to town. Ruthie is three months away from giving birth if she goes full term so it is important that she takes it easy. We won't let this guy near her again."
Everyone nodded and then sat back and made small talk as they waited on Autumn and Ruthie to wake up. They all had so much to make up for and they weren't even sure where to start it in order to make it up to Ruthie.
