Chapter 7: What'd we miss?

"There's something we need to discuss." Drake stood up from his spot on the bench and began pacing. It was clearly an attempt to put some distance between himself and his mother, who was watching him curiously. "For the last six months I was living with Draco, helping to train other Dragon knights, but really he was trying to get me to embrace my heritage. The part I got from you. Do you know anything about that?"

Drake didn't hesitate to add an accusatory undertone to his question, but surprisingly Malundra wasn't phased by it. Instead she wore a look of genuine surprise, and judging by the tension in her shoulders, slight fear. "But you didn't right?"

Drake raised a brow. "Of course not. Wait, you didn't know that he knew?"

She shook her head, Drake noticing her curly red locks seemed to remain in place, even with the motion, "The only one who knew about your specific prophecy, and mine, was your father, and he would not have told anyone. Not even his brothers and especially not Draco."

He scoffed and spoke beneath his breath, "Not even me apparently."

She got to her feet with her hands forward seeking to comfort him, but he stepped back. Still to soon, "You were young, and we didn't want you trying to find me. Or whatever it is rebellious teens do."

He ran his hand through his hair, tugging at clumps in frustration, "Cuz you were protecting me from what 'might happen' I get it and I'm done talking about it." She opened her mouth to speak, but thought better of it. "Bottom line is Draco knows about me and I have the feeling he isn't done with me."

She saw this as an opportunity and decided to go for it. "Can I do any -"

He held up a hand. "No. I can handle Draco and merry men." His mouth suddenly started moving, but for a moment nothing came out. "But if I need your help . . . I'll call." For the briefest of moments hope created a very delicate smile on his mother's face. "Don't get to excited. I doubt I'll ever forgive you for leaving me and letting me believe that I killed my mother all these years, but . . . I do trust you. And right now I need all the help I can get. When I call for it of course. Not now."

She shrugged, the smile still on her face. "I guess it's a start." Another brief moment and Malundra was sure he smiled at her.

The doors to the main hall suddenly opened and all of the spectators, including Raven, were ushered into the hallway before slamming shut again.

Drake looked over the puzzled, and slightly smug faces of his friends. "What'd we miss?"

Zatanna Zatara placed her face into her hands, not wanting anyone the chance to see her tears.

What had she done? More importantly. Was it the right thing?

She dried her face with the her gloved hands, sniffling and hoping to maintain some composure, but it was difficult to find. She had found herself at the railing in front of a window that overlooked the planet Earth below, but instead of seeing the earth, she just stared at her reflection, and of the reflection of the one standing beside her.

"It'd be dumb of me to ask if your okay, huh?" Robin took a spot beside her, not looking in her direction, but rather towards the vastness of space.

"They don't call you the Boy Wonder for nothing." She droned before placing her face into her hands again. "What have I done?"

"You told the truth."

"- A truth that could potentially get my dad kicked off the League. Why couldn't I keep my mouth shut?"

Robin waited a beat, "Why didn't you? You coulda stayed quiet but you didn't, why?"

The tears and the sniffling returned. "I guess . . I didn't want to see you hurt." His eyes widened about and inch from behind his mask. "You mean a lot to me Dick, and Raven means a lot to you, and I couldn't let her go away when I could have done something about it." Her watering blue eyes remained downcast and away from his. "But was it the right thing to do?"

As gently as he was able, he took her by the shoulders and wrapped her in a comforting hug. "Depends on how you feel I guess."

She snickered, burying her face into the crook of his neck. "Horrible at the moment."

"Well give it time." They parted when the joviality of his friends caught their attention.

" - This is awesome dude!" Beast Boy cheered. "This is a mistrial! Your free Raven!"

The dark damsel let out an uncharacteristic "eep" when he lifted her into the air and began spinning her around, and didn't stop until Cyborg coaxed him to set her down.

"Easy lover boy. It's not that easy."

"What are you talking about, of course it is."

"Cyborgs right Beast Boy," Robin said as he and Zatanna joined them. "Giovanni may have ruined his standing with the League, but that doesn't negate everything that's been said about Raven."

"Although is doesn't help his case either." Drake mentioned once he had been clued in to the events that had transpired in his absence.

"Kole sweetly, are you alright?" Malundra asked. Everyone's attention was now on the pink haired girl who was by the large window, her head twitching in a manner that appeared as if someone was talking to her. She continued until Drake spoke her name aloud, snapping her out of her odd trance.

"Hm? What?" She asked innocently. "Oh yeah everything is fine, just angel radio. Jacob needs me to return to earth."

"Everything okay?" Robin asked.

She waved him off, "Oh yeah. Everything's fine. Just angel stuff."

He "hm'd" at her response before extending his hand. "Well don't be a stranger. Feel free to come back any time."

She smiled warmly after giving his hand a gentle shake then stepped closer to the window. "Of course."

"Kole wait," Drake hurried to catch her, ignoring Starfires "hmph" as he ran past her.

"What's up?" She appeared antsy to get going, but didn't seem to mind giving him some time.

He leaned towards her face, close enough to cause her to take a step back and her breath to hitch in her throat, but the action was lost on him. "I actually had a question, about your, um, uh, well your an angel right?"

She looked up at him oddly, remembering just how cute he was when he was awkward. Focus Kole. "Yes?"

"And Angels usually have wings right?"

Another odd look. "Uh Huh?"

He lowered his voice while scratching the back of his head. "Can I, uh, see them?"

An explosion of snickers sounded from their apparent audience who quickly silenced themselves after a burning death glare from a pair of fiery reptilian eyes. All the laughter was quieted except for soft giggling from the pinkette before him.

"Well," She spoke coyly, rocking on the balls of her feet with a mischievous grin. "I don't show and tell." She tapped him on the nose with her index finger, igniting a spark that blinded him enough so that he, nor anyone around, could see her vanish from the Watchtower.

Beast Boy slammed his tray of food onto the cafeteria table before taking his seat with a huff. Starfire, seemed concerned with his behavior, while Robin and Raven were beginning to get exhausted with his behavior. "What is taking so damn long?" He muttered under his breath.

"Gar it's only been a few hours. Give it time." Her tone suggested to him that she was no longer in the mood for his negative attitude and that it was definitely time for him to cool it. Hesitantly and quietly he agreed and began to eat his food in peace.

It had been a few hours since the League had banished the Titans from the meeting hall so they could further discuss the actions of Giovanni, while Ravens case fell by the wayside for the moment. In the meantime they had gone to the cafeteria to get some food, although apparently one of the food servers had mysteriously vanished, forcing them to serve themselves.

"So," Raven said, "how are things back at the tower?"

With all that had been going on, they hadn't had an actual conversation so now was as good a time as any. "Rose is still doing very well. Though she cannot replace you." Starfire put her finger to her chin, "Although she doesn't like Beast Boys jokes either."

"She still has a long ways to go." Robin spoke. He was talking to his food, but loud enough that the table could hear it.

"She's the daughter of a hardcore assassin, how much more does she have to learn?" Raven asked.

"Robin just gets on her cuz she's Slade's kid." Beast Boy frowned.

Robin slammed his fork down. "She's the daughter of our enemy-"

" - so am I." Raven shot. "And hasn't this whole thing been about who I shouldn't suffer for the sins of my father?"

Robin's mouth shut down instead moved in an unnatural fashion as grunts and groans replaced words. "I-I I didn't mean - "

Raven shook her head, "Forget it."

After a tense silence Beast Boy decided to break it. "Speaking of daughter, Drake has one too."

He just had to open his mouth while Raven was trying to take a sip of water.

Coughing and hacking she turned to him. "He has . . . a what?"

"A daughter."

"Ow!"

Drake had opted to eat by himself on the other side of the cafeteria, but as he walked by to throw his remaining meal away, he caught the tail end of their conversation, quickly earning Beast Boy a slap to the back of the head.

Raven attempted to clear her windpipe of the remaining water. "You have . . A daughter? How . . . Is that possible? Is it a Dragon thing that Kole could have a kid that -"

"She's not Kole's. We never . . ." Drake was suddenly aware of how loudly he was speaking and the fact that everyone, workers and League members, was watching them. "Would everyone like to pull up a chair and join us?" The collective response was everyone returning to their business.

"It's a long story Raven," his eyes caught someone approaching them, "one that will have to wait." He motioned with his head towards the Dark Knight of Gotham who moved quickly and with purpose towards the Titans.

"Giovanni's matter will be dealt with at a later date, but for now he will no longer have any say in Ravens case. However the League won't hear anymore testimony, or evidence from either party and will now make a decision as to what to do with Raven."

Ravens hand subconsciously found its way into Beast Boys, seeking whatever comfort he could offer. "Well do you have any idea how long it will take?" He asked worriedly.

The only response given from the Batman was a blank expression. "I don't know. Some seem to be on her side, while others are siding with Giovanni, and has been that way since she first came here." He waited a few beats of silence before continuing. "Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst." He turned on his heel and left the team to their thoughts and prayers.

Impending doom. That's what this felt like. Just like when it was time for her to end the world and she would die. This may have been to a lesser scale, but still the looming finale was the same. She had a sliver of hope, hope that they would show mercy and allow her some freedom, but she was also realistic. Why would anyone in their right mind let her go free? It wasn't likely.

At least she was able to spend the day with her friends. Robins calm business like demeanor, Drake sharing with her the tale of his daughter, Cyborg fanboying over every little technical marvel and Starfire, being the sister she never had or wanted.

And then there was -

Knock, knock, knock.

Raven observed her door oddly. Wasn't it lights out? Maybe Starfire needed something? She sighed. Of course someone would knock right as she was ready for bed, ready for an uneasy sleep towards an unknown future. Sure, it was nice to not have to control her emotions all the time, but there were times when some empathy to get a peak at who was knocking would be nice.

She tossed off her sheets and sauntered to her door, it wasn't like she was going to sleep well anyways. With the door opened she honestly wasn't surprised at who stood there.

"Well this seems familiar."

Beast Boy chuckled nervously at her jab. "What? Me knocking at your door? I thought you always looked forward to my visits?"

She rolled her eyes. "Of course. Who wouldn't want their meditation and reading interrupted by a rousing game of Stank Ball?"

Her favorite grin stretched across her face. "Awe you had fun and you know it."

She allowed her violet locks to cover her smiling face. She hated long hair, but it had its good points. Peeking through a few strands she asked, "So what brings you here this time?"

His grin faded to an uncomfortable stare, as if he had forgotten the reason he was there, which knowing him was very likely the case. "Oh, um, well I came to . . . Wish you goodnight." His fang shone again in a toothy grin that told her "I hope she believes my BS."

She raised an amused brow, "My fate gets decided tomorrow and the most you wanna say to me right now is 'goodnight'?" His bottom jaw began moving up and down like a fish on dry land, this time causing her to sigh with both exhaustion and frustration. "Gar, whatever you're here to say, just - Mmph!"

His gloved hand gripped the back of her hair and pulled her forward, cutting off her words with a kiss. She was shocked at first, but things like this from him rarely surprised her at this point. Her eyelids slid closed as their kiss took her away from the Watchtower, away from her troubles and everything else and brought her to a space where only they occupied. In this moment nothing else mattered.

Slowly, reluctantly, they separated his eyes staring to hers with an earnest longing. "I'll uh, let you sleep-eep!"

Her fingernails dug into his uniform and pulled him harshly into her room, shutting the door behind him, and forcefully she slammed him against it. She brought her face inches from his, her warm breath pushing against his face, but through his shock he could see a look of primal desire in her violet irises. "Gar. For the love of god. Shut. Up."

For once he had no problem listening.

Her arms snaked around his neck as his own wrapped around her waist, lifting her so that she was eye level, and their lips met again. Warm, wet and with all the longing and passion that had built within them from the long nights away from one another. Every minute she had longed for him, and every second he missed her, exploded right then and there in a ferver meant just for them.

With the back of his head feeling sore, mostly from being bumped against the door, he lifted her clear off her feet and fumbled his way over to her bed. With inhibitions gone, they took no second thought as to what they were doing. The only thing that mattered was here, now, and each other.

They fell heavily and entangled themselves in the sheets immediately as they rolled over, their lips fused together and their hands grasping each other desperately. Love, want and fear clouded their minds; all thoughts were erased except for the desire to feel each other as close as they could, to search one another for comforting warmth and reassuring scent and exhilarating touch. Lips abandoned lips only for a short time, to slide over heated skin and drink in the shiver they left behind, only to hurry back and meld together again in a bruising, needful, hungry kiss. Heavy breaths and whimpers and moans joined into a wild melody that grew and rose and swamped them in its dazzling finale, and lulled them both into an exhausted, blessedly forgetful, dreamless sleep.

Morning

Coughs, clearing of throats, fingers tapping on the desks were just a few of the noises that permeated the uncomfortable silence in the Justice League's main meeting hall. Batman met the eyes of the lone Dr. Fate beside him, who, even behind the helmet, was asking the same question. Batman glared at the empty seat beside him, then slowly turned his scowl towards his former protege seated behind him. His stare clearly asking the question as to the whereabouts of his charge.

The Boy Wonder gulped as Starfire leaned over to him. "Robin, where are friends Raven and Beast Boy?" Starfire asked

He shook his head. "I don't know."

"Seriously?" Robin and Starfire turned to Drake who sat in the row behind them. "You don't know where she is?" More blank stares. "Did you not notice that Beast Boy didn't find his way back to our room last night?" The question was directed to Robin since all the boys shared a room leaving Starfire to her own room.

"Do you believe Cyborg is with them as well?" Starfire looked around, "he is also absent."

Seeing as they were indeed missing their bionic friend Drake cringed. "Dear god I hope not."

Malundra, who was seated beside him chuckled. "I wonder if she let him get to fifth base."

Red hot embarrassment was quickly masked with confusion from both boys. "There isn't a such thing as fifth base." Drake commented.

She smiled, that same inviting warm smile as she patted him on his knee. "If you say so."

Just then the doors finally sprung open, revealing two very disheveled, and embarrassed teens.

"Glad you could join us." Superman announced half smirking. Flustered, Raven seated herself beside the Batman, while Beast Boy placed himself behind her with his friends each staring at him oddly.

"What?"

"Beast Boy where you in the company of friend Raven last night?" The green teen turned an uncomfortable shade of red that gave his skin a faint purple hue, but before he could respond Starfire hooked her arm through his. "Oh friend, you are a most wonderous boyfriend to spend all night comforting your beloved. Did you two sleep well?"

The unnatural color on his cheeks darkened. "Uh . ."

"Just tell me Cyborg wasn't with you?"

"Drake he slept in our room last night," Robin clarified, "though I don't know where he is now? Do you?" Beast Boy, relieved that the conversation was off of him, shook his head.

A deep, annoyed clearing of someone's throat brought everyone's attention to the Dark Knight whose dark eyes could be seen glaring from beneath his cowl. "He is with Captain Atom. Had you been paying attention you would have heard Superman mention that, along with how he would be leading this hearing in his absence." Batman then turned to Raven, his expression softening considerably when he saw just how nervous she was. He took her hand and gave it a gentle, reassuring squeeze causing her heart to skip a beat for a moment.

Looking over the members of the Justice League, it was clear to her that they were trying to remain as passive and as stoic as possible, making it difficult for her to read which way they were leaning. However despite this obvious tension she was feeling, his presence was somewhat comforting, she couldn't quite place her finger on it, but it was a feeling like Cyborg a brotherly figure, but much older. A father figure maybe?

Movement from the table gathered everyone's attention, quieting the hall. Superman cleared his throat, then suddenly took a seat. Clearly he wasn't quite comfortable handling situations like this, which only made Raven even more nervous.

"Over the past four months, and even the past few days," Superman began, "We've heard testimony, and seen evidence in the case of one, Raven Roth, daughter of the demon overlord Trigon. She's charged with releasing her father into this world to spread chaos, death, and pain, but it's become obvious to us this entity has caused much of that even before he entered this world." He leaned forward addressing Raven specifically, "Miss Roth, you have the Leagues deepest sympathies for the pain you have been caused over your young, short life. Along with our sympathy, however, you also have our profound admiration."

Raven stiffened, a feeling of excitement welling inside of her. "Here you are, a young girl destined for evil, doing everything in her power to do good. To BE good. Something that we as a super powered beings struggle with every day, walking the fine line between good and evil. You have, and will always have, our respect in that regard." He took a deep breath before letting out slowly. "Having said that, we cannot ignore the things you have done, and the lives that have been lost because of the choices that you have made, and though the League and I agree that your life has been punishment enough, we do not feel that you have quite earned your freedom as of now. However to clarify we will not be sending you to the Phantom Zone, or anything like that, but I do want this to be an open discussion as to what your punishment should be. The boundaries we've established is that you at least be unable to use your powers, or have anything to do with heroism. Does that sound fair?"

Raven nodded. "So like house arrest?"

"That's one way of looking at it, yes." Wonder Woman commented.

"So, can I go back to the Titans Tower?" Raven felt a beacon of hope warm her heart, but solemnly Superman shook his head.

"I don't feel it would be a good idea. If the city's villains, or any for that matter, were to get wind of your house arrest they may come for you, and the last thing we want is to set you up to fail."

Suddenly the doors of the hall flew open again, sounding with a thunder echo that swiftly silenced the main hall. There, in all of his ragged glory, was the trench coat wearing Englishman, Constantine. He was breathing hard, and looked more unkempt then usual, but that didn't stop him from maintaining his arrogant swagger. "Quick question mate!" He spoke, "What if Raven had a safe place on earth she could stay? Not a prison, or with any super powered chaps, but a safe haven. A family member perhaps?" Everyone looked at him like he had grown a second head, all but Batman. The two shared a silent communication which resulted in Constantine grinning a knowing grin, before addressing Superman again. "Well?"

"I, uh, guess. But from what we've heard she doesn't have anymore family anywhere. Right?"

Constantine's grin got wider, "It took me a while, but that is not the case Mate." He went back to the door and opened it a crack and waved someone to come inside. Slowly a woman, tall, slender, slightly pale with long chocolate brown hair, entered the hall, nervously looking around at all of the eyes that were on her. She gave them an awkward smile just as Constantine encouraged her forward.

"Excuse me miss?" Martian Manhunter addressed, "But may I ask as to who you are?"

The woman shuffled her shoulders. She was nervous, but seemed only because she was in the presence of "earth's mightiest heroes", not because she was a nervous person. She cleared her throat making sure her voice was as confident as possible.

"Alice Williams, sir. Formally Alice Roth." Alice looked over the hall until her eyes fell onto Raven. She let out a small gasp, placing her hand over her mouth, then slowly the tears come. "Oh . . . my. You look just like Angela. My baby sister."

Raven couldn't speak and her mind struggled to catch up. This woman before who was a stranger to her, but she did bare a similar resemblance to her mother for the few times she had seen her. It was the pale skin and darkened hair that gave it away, though her mother's was black, and this Alice had a darkened brown.

Could this . . could she?

" - yup that's all you gotta do. You'll be able to monitor all your League members no matter where they are, on or off world." Cyborg and Captain Atom had just entered a very quiet, very tense hall where everyone was looking at a strange woman, who was crying while looking at Raven who was now looking at them. "Uh . . What'd we miss?"
