"Welcome, freshman, to your first day at UCLA! We hope you'll enjoy the next four years with us!..."

"God, woman, shut up already," I growled under my breath, quickly growing tired of the cheery RA standing before our group.

"She's got quite the chords on her, aye?"

"I'm sorry, what?" I turned to the man beside me who had spoken and quirked an eyebrow in question.

"Talks a lot," he explained with a laugh.

"Ah, gotcha," I nodded. "Your accent...You're British?"

"Guilty as charged. Name's Malachi. You are?"

"Mira," I introduced myself, sticking out my hand to shake. "So you're British with an Irish name?"

"My my, someone knows her world cultures," Malachi teased me. "Impressive."

"I've traveled a lot," I waved him off with a shrug. "What brings you here for college?"

"My cousin lives here and is starting junior year, so I thought it might be fun. And I'm already having fun," he smiled at me.

"Oh wow, Malachi, the thing is I-"

"At this time, you may head to the dormitories to get settled in."

"I guess that's our cue to head out," I smiled apologetically at Malachi. "See you around!" I grabbed my couple of bags and hurried to my designated dorm, eager to sit down and process what had just happened.

"Name please?"

"Mira Mitchell," I answered my RA with a smile. "Listen, I'm not sure if the room assignment I got was right. My email said I'm in a plaza but I didn't sign up for that."

"Oh no, it's right," she nodded without looking up from the clipboard in her hands. "We double and triple check."

"But-"

"Head on in!"

Thoroughly confused and more than a little peeved at her brusqueness, I stepped into my room and gasped at the enormity of the place. This is so not what dorm life has been described as.

I threw my bags on the bed and sat down next to them, mouth still hanging open at the prospect of this room being mine. I called my parents and was shocked to hear they hadn't arranged this.

"But Mom, I-"

"Sorry, sweetie, I have to run! Good luck!"

"Mom, wait! Mom?"

Damn, what's with people cutting me off today?

I walked to the door once more and checked the names on it- Mira Mitchell, freshman; Kelly Grunmeier, freshman.

What the hell? Who did this?

"Oh, hello again."

"Malachi? What are you doing here?" I demanded as I moved out of the doorway, allowing him to step inside.

"Uh...getting settled in," he laughed. "Something the matter?"

"The door says 'Kelly Grunmeier'."

"That's my cousin, love," Malachi grinned at me. "My board is under her name. We're roomies?"

"I-I guess, but...are we even allowed to have a co-ed room?"

"Dunno, let's find out."

Twenty minutes later, we returned to our room thoroughly drained from having our ears talked off.

"Well that's it then," I shrugged. "There's no more rooms. Looks like we're stuck together," I shrugged at my new roommate.

"Hey, it's not so bad," he smiled at me. "And by the way you can call me Mal."

"Malachi- Mal," I corrected myself with a smile, "Look, you're very sweet but-"

"We should both know the other's taken?" he jumped in, nodding at the chain with Kendall's guitar pick hanging around my neck.

"Oh uh...yeah," I blushed, laughing.

"My girlfriend's at NYU," Mal explained with a dreamy smile. "Yours?"

"He'll be in New York touring in about a month or so."

"Touring, eh? He pretty popular?"

"You could say that," I giggled. "My boyfriend is Kendall Schmidt. Back home, One Direction is probably all the buzz, right?"

"Oh no, our girls love him! I mean, your boys. I mean, Big Time Rush. You know what I mean."

"I understand," I smiled.

"I'm gonna go scope out this supposedly beautiful campus. See you back here later."

I waved as Malachi walked out the door before pulling out my phone and quickly dialing Kendall's number.

"Hello?"

"You sneaky son of a bitch!"

"Well hello, my darling girl, how lovely to hear your voice, too!"

"Sorry, baby," I giggled. "I can't believe you did this!"

"And I can't believe it took you so long to figure out," Kendall chuckled on the other end.

"I was in shock, alright? It's amazing, Kendall. Thank you so much!"

"Of course, honey. I've gotta run now, but Skype date tonight? I miss seeing you so much."

"I'd love that, handsome," I smiled as I spoke in the phone. "Love you!"

"Love you, baby girl."

I woke up with a start as my name in the form of a moan filled my mind. Thoroughly confused and more than a little turned on, I turned to my laptop and noticed that Skype was still open, flashing 7:17:56.

"Oh. My. God," I breathed out, cheeks flushing hot as I realized what was happening. If I closed Skype, Kendall's screen would flash and he would notice; if I took my headphones out and got out of bed, the sounds of my boyfriend's ecstasy would fill the room.

What's behind door number three you ask?

Sitting here, alone, and listening as my boyfriend pleased himself while imagining it was me. I turned down the volume on my computer and slid back under the covers, trying to look like I was asleep if anyone in this sticky situation-no pun intended- happened to get a little wiser to what was going on.

Kendall's breathing got faster, forcing me to close my eyes and bite down on my bottom lip to stop from making any noises. My terrible mind immediately conjured up images to go along with the soundtrack filling my head, not helping the current situation at all. With a moan and a whisper of my name, everything suddenly stopped.

I let out a sigh of relief, realizing too late that the mic was right next to my mouth. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. I chided myself, hoping that, by some miracle of God, Kendall hadn't heard anything.

No response.

Letting my heart rate return to normal as I began breathing again, I heard typing followed by the sound of a laptop shutting. The Skype call flashed several times before returning to the home screen of our conversation.

I enjoyed our Skype date last night, baby. And good morning, you little minx ( ;

Oh fuck.

A/N: So I started out cute and sweet and then BAM knocked you guys with that up there hehe. The idea came to me while I was in the shower and...don't ask. I had to throw it in there! Sorry, if it's a little choppy. Figured I owed you all an explanation for that drastic change XD
