Chapter 7

Digivolution Activate!

It was only a baby, only a newborn in fact, but Takato's Digimon was already rushing to the children's aid. Takato gazed in awe at the red, dinosaur-type Digimon.

" Henry, do you know what that Digimon is called?" asked Rika.

Henry shook his head. " I've never seen one like this before."

The mystery Digimon dodged Flymon's attack, and slashed at the stinger with its claw.

" Pyro sphere!" it cried again.

" Takato!" called Ryo. " You need to do something!"

" What?" asked Takato.

" Your Digimon isn't strong enough to defeat Flymon! You're the Digidestined, and you need to make him stronger! Then you can send Flymon back to the Digital World," explained Ryo.

Takato opened and closed his mouth like a fish. Then, something in the pile of treasure caught his eye, but it wasn't gold, or silver. It was a red device, red like the Digimon's skin. When Takato touched it, the screen switched on.

WELCOME it said. He blinked. Then, panicking, he began pressing all the buttons on the device. The Digimon was still keeping the Flymon at bay. He pressed the white button in the centre, and a portal opened up in the roof of the cavern.

" It's a gateway!" yelled Kazu.

" Then lets send this Flymon back where he belongs!" declared Takato. From the pile of treasure, he picked up a blue card. Instinctively, he slashed it through his device. He decided to shout out what the card did, for added effect.

" Digivolution activate!"

A strange red light engulfed Digimon. With a strange cry, the Digimon broke free, only he had changed. He was much bigger, and looked a lot tougher. Flymon backed into a corner with a small squeak.

" Dragon slash!" he cried, and with his claw, he sliced off Flymon's stinger.

" Pyro blaster!" he added. A huge fireball erupted from his mouth, and it forced the Flymon back through the gateway. Takato pressed the central button again, and the gateway closed. For a while, there was silence. The big red Digimon turned back into the smaller one, and the children laughed in relief.

" Can I have some of those Haribos now, Rika?" asked Kenta.

" Go on, knock yourself out," sighed Rika.

" No…Flymon, come over here."

Injured, the Flymon made his way over to the mysterious figure.

" Hmm…you are no longer of any use to me. Rainbow Eye activate."

The room flooded with a blinding, many coloured light. With a shriek, Flymon dissolved into data.

" If this gets any worse, I'll have to sort things out myself. Honestly. Actually, I'm quite impressed."

Eventually, after much grumbling and moaning, the children emerged once again outside. Takato stood up and breathed in the cold night air.

" It took us all day?" asked Jeri in disbelief.

The new Digimon blinked, and sniffed at his new surroundings.

" Of course!" laughed Takato. " He's never been outside before!"

" What his name?" added Jeri.

" I think Takato should name him," replied Rika. " After all, it is his Digimon.

They all turned to Takato. He thought for a moment.

" Red-dinomon?" he suggested. " No… Pyromon? No, um… I got it! Guilmon."

They all nodded. Henry got out his notebook.

" Gu – il – mon," he said as he wrote it down.

" What made you think of that name?" asked Ryo.

" It just sort of came to me," he shrugged. " And I thought it sounded cool. Oh yeah! And his champion form can be called…Growlmon!"

" I have one question," piped up Kazu.

" What?" said Takato.

" What are we going to do when your dad comes here and sees Guilmon?"

The others groaned.

" Could we hide him somewhere?" suggested Jeri. " In the cavern, maybe?"

" No," replied Takato. " I'll just have to tell my dad the truth. Then Guilmon can… live in the park!"

" Really? You really want to tell him?" asked Henry.

" Yeah," nodded Takato. " He may understand. I mean, he's heard of the Digidestined legend, so explaining that part shouldn't be too much of a problem."

" Impmon?"

The small, purple Digimon looked over at the two small children standing beside him.

" What's wrong?" he asked.

" I saw a gateway opening," replied Ai. " If it's still open, maybe we should try it out? See if it gets us home…"

" Uh, yeah…" muttered Impmon. " That would be great, wouldn't it…"
