Stark Tower
Outside Kelsie's Door
24:00 ET
July 24, 2028
Exactly five teenagers all stood outside Kelsie Rogers' door, begging her to open it. They each took their turn pounding on it. The had asked JARVIS to unlock it but Kelsie had refused to let it budge with her super soldier and a chair.
"Common Kels. Please let us in." Mitchi pleaded.
A muffled no was all that could be heard. They had all been at this for the last three hours after they realized Kelsie still hadn't come out. It was no shock though that everything had hit this hard on the sensitive girl.
"Uncle Nick is gonna be here any minute," Joey added.
The whole group turned to stare at him. That certainly wasn't helping. They all knew Nicholas Fury treated them all as family. Well all of them except, Astrid. He wasn't quite fond of her as the others.
"What on Earth is going on here?" a deep voice ordered.
All the teens jumped. Dang it...
"Hi Uncle Nick." Mitchi greeted.
Kiara groaned while Joey looked at the ceiling and yelled, "I thought I told you to warn us when he got here JARVIS!"
"My apologies,sir," JARVIS stated.
"I asked you five a question," Fury glared. "What happened?"
"Kelsie is upset," Joey stated.
"Obviously," Fury nodded. "Why?"
"Well Astrid being Astrid said something which made Kelsie cry. So then Joey here tried to make Astrid apologize. Astrid refused so Joey threatened her. Astrid continued to object so Joey kicked her out." Mitchi explained.
"Well where is she now?" Fury demanded. Stark would never forgive him if he lost his precious little girl.
"We don't know," Joey shrugged. "Stark left about 12 hours ago. At the rate the suit flies she could be half way across the world."
The 5 others gaped at Joey. "Her suit goes that fast?" Kiara squeaked.
Joey nodded. "Trust me, I've seen her fly that thing. It's fast as hell."
A quiet voice behind them asked, "Astrid left?"
They turned around only to see Kelsie's tear streaked face. Joey nodded wistfully. "Yeah. I'm sorry. I kicked her out. I didn't realize..."
Kelsie shook her head. "It's fine. Stark deserved it. She was being a jerk."
"More like a real female dog," Mitchi scoffed.
"Suit up," Fury ordered. "You guys are going on a mission to save your parents."
Astrid was sitting in a small, quiet cafe in London. She wanted to be as far as possible from her team. If they didn't want her, they wouldn't get her.
She pulled her laptop out of her messenger bag and glanced around for possible enemies. None could be detected at the moment. Astrid ran a hand through her auburn hair. It took all of her strength not to break down into tears. Although she acted like she wasn't upset, she actually was. However, a few tears slipped out of her eyes anyway.
"Are you alright, ma'am?" a young man asked, in a british accent. He had short brown hair, warm hazel eyes, and a genuine friendly smile. To Astrid, he didn't feel like an untrustworthy person.
Astrid blinked back the rest of her tears. "Yeah," she nodded. 'I got into a fight with a couple of my friends." She shook her head. "I'm fine."
"Are you sure?" he asked.
"Positive," Astrid nodded. "Thanks anyway."
"No problem," the young man winked. "I'm Alex."
Astrid wasn't going to let her cover blown. Even from a cute guy. "I'm Audrey. Audrey Star."
"Nice to meet you," Alex said. "Well I have to go but maybe I'll see you later?"
"Yeah." Astrid agreed.
His eyes seemed to glow a faint red before he smirked and walked off. Crap. This guy was an Extremis. She was being spied on! If there was one here then there were more out there. Think Astrid. Think. Daddy didn't give you his brains for nothing.
Suddenly Astrid had an idea, just as a few more Extremis people walked in. Astrid stuffed the laptop in her messenger bag before launching herself out of an open window. One Extremis she easily recognized was Alex who was trailing behind her. Astrid broke out into a sprint, before a using a hand signal to call on the Arc Angel suit. In fact, she ran straight into it as it encased her.
To put it lightly, running into a hunk of extremely strong metal flying at you feels like 10 tractor trailers are running over you simultaneously. Not something you want to try at home kids.
One by one the Extremis ran at her only to have her knock them out like bowling pins. Apparently they didn't learn the first time. But of course they were basically indestructible so soon Astrid was exhausted while the Extremis looked like they were on a serious caffeine rush.
"JARVIS, isn't Uncle Rhodey in town on vacation?" Astrid asked her dad's AI as she rolled out of the way of a fiery attack.
"I believe so Miss Stark. I am putting in the call now," JARVIS replied. Rings could be heard throughout the helmet.
Please pick up Astrid begged.
"Colonel Rhodes speaking." Tony Stark's best friend replied.
"It's about time!" Astrid screamed,"I need you to get your Iron Patriot butt in motion and come help me!"
"Slow down Astrid! Where are you anyway? Where's Tony?" Rhodey demanded.
"I'm right outside the French Palace Hotel being attacked by those stupid Extremis people. They just won't freaking die! So get your butt out here and help. I don't have back up!" Astrid screeched.
"Alright Angel," Rhodey said. "I'll be there in a few seconds. Use repulsor ray to blow them through the chest. Trust me, works every time."
"I will take that into consideration," Astrid nodded, taking his advice.
She effectively brought down twenty or thirty Extremises. Good call, Rhodey. A few moments later, the Iron Patriot landed next to her taking down the rest of them. After an hour or so they were all dead with the exception of those who surrendered long back.
Rhodey flipped the face plate up. "Come on, Angel," Rhodey smiled. "You look exhausted. I'll take you back to my place. You can explain everything to me there."
Astrid was too tired to object.
They flew over the crowds of people and reporters who were pointing at both the Arc Angel and Iron Patriot. "So this is what being a hero feels like," Astrid laughed.
"Yup," Rhodey agreed. "Enjoy while you can. They're gonna be demanding that you pay for the damage caused."
"I don't think they know who I am," Astrid stated.
"Angel, who else other than a Stark would have an Iron Man suit?' Rhodey asked.
"Good point."
The rest of ride was extremely quiet. Astrid took that to her advantage and decided to gather her thoughts. Obviously the team didn't want her if they hadn't called her yet. Second, Aldrich Killian had kidnapped either her mother or her father or both. Either that or he was after her. Now Astrid really felt like bawling her eyes out. She wanted to to blow random objects too. Possibly at the same time.
When they landed she removed her suit and launched herself at the couch. Little did Astrid know, she was bleeding. A few cuts and bruises along with a concussion. Rhodey shook his head at his goddaughter and headed into the kitchen in order to get several medical supplies.
Bandages, Neosporin, Advil, Ibuprofen and ice cream all seemed necessary at the moment. Rhodey ran into the living room to assist Astrid who was in between of sleeping and being awake.
"Angel, honey, stay awake for me," Rhodey said. "I need you to stay awake so I can heal you. Okay?"
"Okay." Astrid slurred.
Rhodey kneeled in front of Astrid as he applied Neosporin to her cuts and bruises. "You wanna tell me what happened?" He figured if Astrid was practically unconscious he would get all the secrets that she was keeping to herself. She was like Tony in so many ways.
"Well, all of our parents went missing yesterday," Astrid said, while her eyes were closed. "It was my birthday, by the way, so that's a sucky present. We looked for them but they weren't anywhere. So Rogers called Fury and then we went to bed. But I couldn't sleep so I was just pacing in my room when I may or may not have yelled at JARVIS. So then Barton walked in and yelled at me. Then Kelsie came in and yelled at me too. So then we were all yelling at each other so I left."
"Is that why you're in London?" Rhodey asked.
"To get away from them? Yeah. And to look for my parents. I guess I'm on the right track. Maybe."
"You know what?" Rhodey said. "Take some rest and tomorrow I'll get the military to help you with this okay?"
"No," Astrid shook her head. "I want to do it by myself. Getting help from the military is just getting more orders and I hate orders."
"Okay," Rhodey agreed. "But you're spending the night. Agreed?"
"Agreed."
