Enigma

The sun began to set and the dark night came. The city was apparently more damaged then people originally thought. After the big earthquake the power went out in most of the city, streetlights fell along with some stop lights, windows were broken and a lot of people were injured. Slowly the power came back to each street as time passed.

The sub station was one of those places that didn't have power yet. They had to put some candles on each table and counter when night came. Ever since the earthquake they had been cleaning up the station. Jerry and Theresa were handled the kitchen, while Max and Alex cleaned up the dining room. Max came home a little bit later after Theresa called. He and his team were practicing in an open field so nothing much happened. Justin was sent to his room by Theresa after they called Max. She was still very worried about him even though he said he felt fine.

Alex didn't know why Justin was complaining so much. He got out of cleaning the entire shop with the only source for light was a couple of candles. They had been picking up garbage for hours now and they were barely half finished.

Alex sighed as she wiped her forehead. "We have been cleaning for some time now and were not even close to being done." She said while looking over at the station.

"I still don't understand why Justin isn't here helping us." Max said tired of doing all this cleaning. Alex sighed. "For the fifteenth time, mom and dad are still worried about what happened earlier."

"I don't understand why did he pass out again?" Max said confused.

"We don't know." Alex was getting very irritated. Not just because of Max, but mostly about all the work she's been doing, also because she wanted to know that herself. "As soon as we're done here, they're going to take him to the hospital." She continued as she finished cleaning a small portion of the shop. They each had there own garbage bag that they had been putting trash in.

"Okay, I think that's enough for today." Jerry said coming out of the kitchen. "Honey, why don't you go throw away your thrash in the back and then you and Max can go to bed." Jerry went over to help Max finish. Alex nodded. She threw her bag over her shoulder almost falling behind in the process, but catching herself. She went through the kitchen passing her mom and through the back door.

A dark figure could be seen walking down the alleys with the moon shining down. He had been wondering through the alleys for some time. The small rest he took earlier only gave him a little bit of energy back. His whole body felt numb from the pain and he was pretty sure he had a high temperature. He kept seeing two of everything and because of this he couldn't walk straight. Every now and then everything would start to spin and had to stop. Even though he has been only walking, he was breathing like he just ran five miles. He didn't know why it was so dark. He knew he was behind the buildings, but there still should be some light showing. The only light that let him see anything was the moon. He would have gone to the hospital if he knew where he was right now. He knew that it wouldn't be long before he passed out again, he could feel it. Every now and then he would hit a garbage can or a dumpster. That was greatly annoying him to no end.

He has been walking pretty blindly for a while now and he wished he could see some sort of light more then just the moon light so he wouldn't hit everything in front of him. The moon wasn't THAT bright. His wish was granted when he saw a light coming from up head. He didn't even think about he just went towards it. He saw a person come outside, but couldn't see clearly, his vision started to get blurry. A sign that said he was about to blackout. As he got closer he could tell it was a girl, she was throwing a bag away. When he was only a few feet from her, he immediately stopped. He could recognize that mismatch of clothes anywhere.

Alex

She hadn't seen him yet, she was still to busy throwing away the large bag into the dumpster. Before he could leave his body failed him. He was beginning to blackout again.

No, not now. Not like this!

Everything was going black; the last thing he saw as he fell was her surprised beautiful face.

Man, its cold outside. Alex thought as she came out. She was having a bit of a hard time carrying the trash. This thing is freaking heavy, at least the power came back.

It was true right before she came out of the kitchen the lights came back. She went down the two steps of the small stairs and turned to her left. The dumpster was placed against the dead end of the alley. She had some trouble putting the large bag over into the dumpster. After some struggling she finally managed to throw it away. "Well, now that that's done." She said dusting her hands. Suddenly Alex froze in place. She could see a shadow on the wall and she knew it wasn't hers. She was too afraid to turn around and look. She knew that her parents and Max were still inside.

There was no way a normal person would be walking at this hour with the no electricity in a dark alley. She was going to reach for her wand, but cursed when she remembered she left it inside. Alex swallowed the lump that formed in her throat and slowly turned around.

She was expecting to see some kind of serial killer or a thief. She even expected to see a homeless person begging for food, but certainly not this. What she saw in front of her was a man who needed to be hospitalized. He was wearing some kind of robe that looked like it belonged in the garbage. It was very dirty, had a few holes and…

Are does burn marks?

He looked like has been through hell. He had dry blood on his face, his right arm had a gash on it, and she was pretty sure there were plenty more injuries under his clothes. Besides all that, what she noticed the most were his eyes, they held no life in them. She didn't know why, but that made her sad. He seemed so defenseless to her right now. For whatever reason, she wanted to help him.

As she was about to speak, he dropped to his knees and fell forward, falling unconscious.

"I wonder what's taking her so long." Jerry asked.

They all had finished, for the day anyway, and were waiting for Alex to come back so they could leave. Max was bored and tired; he just wanted to go to bed.

"I don't know maybe we should go check on her." As Theresa said that, they could hear footsteps coming from the kitchen. They imagined it was Alex, but there was something weird about it. They could hear her walking a few steps and then stop for a couple seconds and then start again. It kept on going like that for a short time. They could also hear some kind dragging noise. Finally, Alex came out of the kitchen…and she wasn't alone.

On her back was a person with his feet dragging on the floor. She was having a really hard time carrying/dragging him. The reason why she took so long was because she had to take rest every few steps.

"Hello, a little help here. This guy is not exactly very light you know." She said with force.

Jerry stopped gawking and went to help her. They set him down on a chair, holding him so he wouldn't fall.

"Ah, Alex…who is he?" Jerry asked staring at the young man.

"Yeah isn't it enough that you bring guys during the day, but at night too?" Max said. Alex gave him a dull look.

"I found him outside. He passed out right in front of me, I couldn't just leave him there." Alex explained. Jerry gave Theresa a weary look. He wasn't too fond of the idea of having a complete stranger with them. He could be dangerous for all they knew. "He also looks like he's hurt. I mean look at him." Alex said with compassion. Jerry stared at the unconscious young man that was heavily injured and sigh.

"Alright we'll take him to the hospital with us and then, hopefully, when he wakes up he'll tell us who he is and why he's in that condition." Jerry said.

Alex looked relieved, Theresa looked a little worried, and Max didn't care at all, he just wanted to go to bed.

Justin was bored out of his mind. He had been in his room sense the incident. He tried to convince his parents that he was fine, but they wouldn't listen. Being the type that always listens to everything his parents say, didn't disobey them. All day he has been laying on his bed trying to sleep because there wasn't much else to do. He wanted to distract himself from thinking about what happened to him earlier. He really didn't want to know that something was wrong with him. Every time he thought about this, he went to the worst case scenario and that just terrified him.

That's why Justin was relieved when Max came into his room.

"Hey Justin mom and dad are waiting downstairs for you to go to the hospital and…"

His relief was short lived when he heard the word hospital. He was so worried that he didn't hear the rest of what Max said.

Justin went downstairs with a face that would look like he was about to go to the electric chair. When he saw no one in the station he assumed they were out in the car waiting for him. He walked down the pedestrian street to where the parking lot was. It was pretty late, it was around one in the morning.

The parking lot was half full. He searched the lot until he spotted his parent's dark red Honda Civic. He could see Jerry and Theresa in the front seats waiting for him. When he opened the right back door he was surprised to see Alex sitting in the middle.

"Alex you're coming to? I thought you were going to look after Max." Justin said

"Oh come on, Max is a big boy he can take care of himself for a couple of hours." Alex said annoyed. She already had to hear an earful from her mom about leaving her little boy by himself. "Besides, I wanted know if there was going to be one less wizard to compete against for my powers." Alex said with a smirk.

"Ha ha ha veeeery funny." Justin said dryly. "Scoot over." He said as he got inside, but Alex stayed were she was.

"Yeah, about that." Alex said looking to her left.

"Huh?"

Once he got inside he noticed there was someone else in the car with them. "Who is that?" Justin asked. Jerry turned on the car and started to drive.

"We don't know your sister found him in the back alley of the shop." Jerry said watching the road. "He is injured pretty badly and like Alex said earlier we couldn't just leave him there." Theresa explained.

"Why is he wearing that?" Justin asked. He was referring to the dirty clothes. "I don't know Justin, why don't you ask him?" Alex said sarcastically. Justin rolled his eyes. The stranger was exactly how he was when she found him except he had his hood on.

While they were waiting for Justin in the car, Alex wanted to see how he looked with his hood on. She thought it made him look cool, but most of all it made him look mysterious, which it fit him. There were so many questions surrounding him.

Where did he come from? Why was he wandering the streets at this hour? How did he get all does injuries?

He was a complete mystery.

He was an enigma.
