Hey guys I'm back! fisrt I want to say that I am so sorry that it took me so long to update but I had a lot of RL issues come up lately. Now that everything is settled I should be able to update sort of regularly for awhile. I would say once or twice a week. Sorry also about the shortness of this chapter, I did it to get the ball rolling (and also the next part is REALLY detailed so) but I will have the next chapter out by friday sometime. Enjoy and see you at the bottom!

The next morning both groups started to their sites with a little more vigor than the day before, knowing something had to be there by the way of the attack from the night previous. Though they felt enthusiasm the Salvatore boys were grateful that the dig site was inside away from the sun that was only encouraging their rough hangovers. Stefan, Damon and Kol simply sat on the ground leaning against each other in hopes that less movement meant better feeling. Damon was much better than his over indulgent brother by far, learning when they were meer teenagers that one of them had to stay more sober and that wouldn't be Stefan. The eldest Salvatore could only wish for a worse headache however, anything was better than watching the Mikealson creep drooling over his baby sister all morning. He knew coments would only embarrass her so he took to throwing tools at Klaus' head whenever Caroline turned around as a warning.

"Okay so unlocking it was the easy part, this coffin is over two thousand years old and seal shut so I'm going to need more than one strong man to help me open it." Caroline said pointedly to the three musketeers groaning on the floor.

"You know Care I love you but your cheeriness after a night of drinking quite frankly disgusts me." Stefan complained "Mom was the same way though, how does alcohol not affect you."

Caroline shrugged playfully "I clearly got the better genes. duh!" She then reached her hand out to help pull him up as Klaus did the same with the other two men. "I think we'll need a bar to leverage it open, do we have anything like that?" She turned to ask Klaus.

"Well love, yes we do however my dear brother is using it to stay upright at the moment" he chuckled pointing to Kol right before the man in question fell back down groaning.

On the other side of camp a few more of the american's workers were pulling an old box out from the base of the statue they had opened the day before. It was quite regal looking for something that had been hidden away for so long, protected by the stone that hadn't yet been weathered away. As the put the box down Shane motioned for them to walk away as he and the other two inspected what was inside, now that the original trap had been set off it was highly unlikely that anymore would be near an item so valuable. Shane kneeled down and brushed some of the dirt from the top of the box so he could read the etchings marked on it.

"well what does it say?" Tyler asked.

"Um ... Death will come on swift wings to those who open this chest." Shane explained "its a threat, and not one to be taken lightly, this is hallowed ground for the ancients, this is as real now as it was then."

Just then a strong wind blew through the cavern they were in effectively extinguishing all the torches and scaring the hired workers enough for those who were there to flee with the exception of Matt, Tyler and Shane. Tyler relite their torches and gave Shane a sign to continue reading.

"There is an undead creature that if brought back will bring slow death upon those who took from him. He will assimilate them and regenerate a strong being bringing the ten plagues with him." Shane finished and looked at his partners.

"then" Tyler began "we just don't bring anyone back to life and be sure not to steal any of his teddy bears. Now lets open this box!" he then shoved the lid off the top and stepped away as dust flew up.

Matt leaned over to look inside "A book? We traveled all the way from Virginia for an old book?"

Shane pulled it out and looked at it in amazement "Gentlemen, this is real treasure. Its the book of the dead! Many have searched for it and never achieved their goal we have."

"well I'm very glad we have pretty drawings to bring back with us then" Tyler said angrily then kicked the box "piece of sh-" he was cut off as the side of the chest opened revealing what looked to be statues of ivory and gold. "What do we have here?"

Matt picked one up "these should fetch a better price than that book!" Matt said excitedly grabbing two of them leaving the others for Shane and Tyler to grab as he headed out.

"look at that you boys got your treasure and I have mine, good work" Shane said as he handed a statue to Tyler keeping one for himself.

"oh I am so excited I've waited for this my whole life!" Caroline exclaimed jumping around. They had set the sarcophagus vertically to get a better view of it and the person inside. Now Damon and Klaus were working on prying it open from either side since they had discovered there were no hinges on it.

"Darling you have waited your entire life to see a dead person? if only I had known that what it took to charm you!" Kol exclaimed sitting upright with a grin on his face as he watched Caroline roll her eyes.

"You know what I mean!" Caroline looked closer at the top "Stefan, come look! The sacred spells for achieving peace in the afterlife have been chiseled off."

Stefan walked forward to inspect what his sister had pointed out. "well he certainly wasn't a good guy."

"What are you all talking about?" Klaus asked gruffly

"Those spells are supposed to keep you in a peaceful state in the afterlife according to egyptian belief. Them being chiseled off means someone wanted him to suffer both here and after death, basically the biggest "fuck you" in egyptian history was to do this." Damon explained. "I think we've loosened it enough for the key to work now."

"alright here" Caroline handed the key to Klaus who put it in place and twisted till he felt the whole sarcophagus pop open. Then he and Damon began to pull the top as Stefan guided Caroline safely back a few steps. Suddenly the top fell opening the coffin to reveal a slimey black set of bones that tilted out of the coffin and had the jaw off set.

"God that is too much for my stomache" Kol said walking to the other side of the room to vomit, between his weakened immune system and the sight of the mummy it was too much post hangover.

"Is it supposed to look like that?" Klaus asked.

"um, no I've never seen one do this before. It is a two thousand year old mummy though it be dry and frail not... slimey." She said with a crinkled nose.

"Guys look at this" Stefan said pointing to the top of the coffin "I think these are nail marks, That means he was buried alive. What the hell did he do to deserve this?"

"most of them are but look here, these are words, death... is only the beginning." Caroline said.

"Nik you should do know how to pick the creepy ones" Kol said earning a glare from everyone.

Later that night Caroline and Stefan were walking through the american camp after doing a little more reading around the coffin to figure out who the mummy was. Caroline had her hand hooked through his arm laughing as they passed Shane who was still trying to open the book. it had the same shaped key hole that the sarcophagus they discovered did.

"I think you might need a key for that" Caroline said walking by.

As they headed to the camp Stefan took the opputunity of no one being around to talk to his sister. "So, do I need to warn you about Klaus?"

Caroline gave him a suspicious side-eye "nothing is going on between me and Nik- I mean Klaus"

"oh really, so I didn't wake up in the middle of the night to see him mauling your face" he asked with a smirk.

"nope, you must have been dreaming." Caroline said then walked quickly forward so he wouldn't see her blush then took a seat next to the handsome man she was just talking about. He was facing the american group who had come by to talk but he was mostly just glaring at them.

"look what Stefan and I just found!" she said showing the beetle like rocks to Klaus "they are called scarabs, they can stay alive for years by eating the flesh of a corpse. These little guys were in that coffin, but unfortunately he was still alive when they started eating him." She looked over to the American group who looked slightly disgusted and afraid.

"So someone threw these in with our guy and they slowly ate him alive?" Klaus asked

"very slowly" she whispered for effect.

"Really darling you know how to charm a man" Kol said making a retching noise.

"He certainly wasn't a popular guy now was he?" Damon said

"Probably got too acquainted with the pharaoh's daughter" Klaus said with a cheeky expression earning laughs from the whole group.

"well according to Stefan's research he suffered from a curse called the "Hom-die", neither Stefan or I have ever read of it actually being used. They were so afraid of the side effects of it no one ever used it."

"Why the hell would anyone invent a curse so terrible that they themselves would be afraid of it?" Kol asked

A few hours after everyone had fallen asleep Caroline got up and quietly tip-toed over to the american camp. She quickly located Shane's area to find him cuddling with the book he had found earlier, the blonde replaced it with a notebook he had been scribbling in earlier in the week. Once done she ran back over to her camp passing by a sleeping Klaus. She jumped suddenly as she felt a warm hand clamp onto her ankle, her eyes followed the arm looking to an amused man.

"That's called stealing Love." he said letting go as he sat up and watched her walk toward the dwindling fire.

"Well Nik according to you and my brothers its called borrowing." she said grabbing the key from her bag.

"okay well why are you borrowing a creepy black book?" He asked coming to sit next to her, close enough to breath on her neck when he spoke.

"because.. um.. I have a key and I can?" she asked a little flustered.

"isn't that the book of the Dead?" Klaus asked her.

"no,"she said putting the key in place and turning it " It's the book of Life, The book of the dead is made of pure gold."

"And do you think its a good idea to open a book that was purposefully sealed and full of dark egyptian secrets?"

"Its Just a book, what harm can a book do?" she said as she opened it and began to read in another language. After a few lines she heard a terrifying roar coming from one of the dig sites, everyone began to wake as Shane yelled.

"TELL ME YOU DIDN'T READ FROM THE BOOK?"
