Chapter 7
Sense
"Are you sure this thing's traveling fast enough? This is the direction Starfire went, right?" Having been in the infamous spaceship, specifically made for the Titans, by the cybernetic Titan himself, for approximately three hours, Beastboy had grown tired and lacked interest since the first half hour, and only now decided to ask his question.
"The Gordanians usually drop off export and import their goods by the edge of the Vegan System. Besides, Starfire has the ability to fly at the speed of light. No matter how fast this thing is, it will never match her speed." Raven set her eyes to stare at the depths of space, all the while ogling at no star in particular, and answered in her monotonous tone.
"Never underestimate how fast the T-ship can go Raven. One of these days, you'll be sittin' in the exact same seat you're in and be eatin' your own words. And you ain't seen anything of what my baby can do!" Cyborg jumped in the conversation as he grinned, thinking of the new adjustments he made to the spaceship.
"Can't your 'baby' shoot lasers, go superfast, and separate into five parts while still in working condition?"
"Yeah, but before this whole thing with the Gordanians happened, I was already working on some new stuff. I've been meaning to finish them, and now that I have-except one- I'm excited to test them out. But if I did test it out anytime soon, then there's no guarantee how it will go." Cyborg answered honestly and yet he still couldn't hide his excitement about the new and improved T-ship.
"What more could this thing have?" Raven's bored tone sounded through the speakers.
"Well I'm glad that you asked Raven! If you haven't already noticed yet, and I doubt you did, then you would notice that there is a small compartment in the back of our own little sections, designed to carry any extra weight like supplies, as long as it's less than fifty pounds of course. Along with the lasers that Beastboy was talkin' about earlier, I've also installed a sonic ray gun that is equivalent to my sonic cannon. And if you look to the left side of your screen towards the bottom, you can see that there's a little box. I don't have the finished product yet but it's supposed to show all of our signals and how far away we are from each other if someone sends a distressed call." Cyborg finished proudly and mentally congratulated himself for thinking of such ingenious ideas.
"What? You couldn't add in a GPS? Honestly Cy, I thought you thought of everything but apparently I was wrong."
"Excuse me? Meanwhile I was working on the improvements, all I saw you do was sit on your lazy ass and play videogames!"
"Yeah, well I remember a few times when you were playing alongside me!"
"Hey Raven?" Robin hadn't spoken a word since they had lifted take-off, too consumed with what was coming, but after hours of staying quiet, he finally found his voice once again.
"Well if you paid more attention, you would have seen that I only played with you twice! Not three times, not four, but two! That just shows how hard I was workin' on my baby."
"Yeah?" Raven's voice answered back through the headphones.
"Do you recognize any of these planets?" As the two boys continued to bicker, Raven took in her surroundings. Let's see…an endless sea of stars, as expected. The planets that were in her view were quite small and some were spaced a little too close than expected. There was one that was cloaked with a thick green color, and had a lighter shade streaked across. To the right was a peach color and had bright pink blotches on it. The next one was a little far off and had a beautiful purplish color to it. There were some rings surrounding it, very similar to Saturn, and some were dark like a bruise while others were a hot pink color. Funny how all three of these planets reminded her of her favorite alien friend. As she looked towards Robin to answer his question, she saw that his shoulders were slumped ever so slightly and turned towards the window, and had his mouth in a straight line. And to top it all off, his aura was gray and discouraging.
"I have a feeling I've seen them before but no promises." As she finished her sentence, another thought arose in her mind. "Was that a rhetorical question?" A smirk played itself across his face.
"I thought you would have known that by now Raven, but I guess I was wrong." Huh, so he had been paying attention to Cyborg and Beastboy's argument. At least he wasn't pushing everyone away.
Speaking of…enough time had passed for the two to fight. She couldn't handle their voices being so loud over the headphones. It was giving her a headache and if there was anything that Raven didn't like, was a headache. "Hey! Shut up! Both of you! You two are arguing over something as stupid as videogames; don't you think that's a little pathetic?"
Silence. How relaxing.
"He started it," Beastboy muttered.
"Oh did I now? That's funny, I don't remember saying that I forgot to put in a GPS."
"Yeah, you did! If you hadn't gone on and on about the new stuff the T-ship has, then you wouldn't have made me want to make that joke!"
"…That was…a joke? Are you serious?" If someone was on that spaceship, you would have heard nothing on the other end, but soon a massive laugh would be the next thing that your ears would pick up on.
"Man, you've grown worse than I thought. Not that you were that great to begin with."
"Hey, I make funny jokes. You guys just don't get it very often."
"Raven, can you sense her now?" Not giving him a response that she heard, Raven closed her eyes and chanted her mantra in her mind. Azarath, metrion, zinthos.
.
.
.
You knew this would happen when you agreed Koriand'r. I do not want to feel self-pity any longer. This is not your first time on this ship, unfortunately.
.
She was shocked, but only for a second. She needed to find Starfire, for hers and Robin's sake. Azarath. Metrion. Zinthos. Find her Raven. You can't lose her.
.
.
.
I cannot believe this...
.
Why is he here…
.
X'hal…
.
.
This time, Raven gasped when she read Starfire's thoughts. If she could read the alien's mind, then that meant that she was close by! Very close apparently.
"Raven?" Beastboy.
"What's wrong?" Cyborg.
"Did you find her?" Robin.
It seemed as though the two boys had quieted while she was looking for Starfire, and heard her gasp. But informing them wasn't what mattered right now. Soon, but not now. Raven shifted in her seat, looking through the glass on both sides to find…well, anything that would be able to hold Starfire. Her eyes were as big as saucers and anxiousness and a little excitement was showed through her face.
"Hello-o? Rav-en. You there?"
"Yeah, I'm here. What do you want?"
"I asked you if you sensed her."
"Oh, r-right, yeah, I did. She's somewhere close by." Not wanting to tell him anything, Raven explained to the remaining Titans what she had felt. Mainly, she only told them about feeling Stars aura. There was no way she would include what she overheard. It was obvious that there was someone who surprised Starfire, most likely someone they didn't want to meet.
"Well, that's good right? We found her, didn't we?"
Before Raven was able to answer herself, Robin returned to the conversation. "All we know is that she's alive. That's good but I want to find her before we celebrate anything."
It's been a while my friends. I apologize for the size of the chapter. I meant to make it two thousand words, to see if I could handle bigger chapters, but then my family suddenly decided to spend some time together. That's weird if you ask me. Anyway, I have about two to three chapters planned so I know exactly what to do. However, I don't have much time to write nowadays and that's pretty depressing. I love to write and let my creative juices flowing. Alright, let's finish this author's note. Please review and all that other good stuff! I don't own anything but Warner Bros. and DC Comics do!
Always yours,
