Demon With A Shotgun: Important Notice!
Hello everyone, thank you very much for reading my fic. :D I just wanted to tell everyone that the first five chapters have been revised slightly, and there have been some changes you might want to take a look at:
The fight scenes were tweaked a little.
The apocalypse scene was edited slightly, I didn't find a beta reader, so I didn't get to make any big changes.
There was a second explanation of the shaman affair. For those who do not want to reread the (slightly better) first few chapters, please read on after the list.
Spade's slightly darker side shines through. For example, it was made clear that he was only helping Joker because she's useful. When he felt anger during his and Natsu's fight, it was because Natsu wasn't fighting like a swordsman and chose to use petty tricks instead of giving Spade the proper swordfight he wanted. Only a little bit of his anger was due to the fact that Natsu nearly killed Joker, who as stated before, is useful to him.
Spade's sword style is tweaked a little.
A concept I was going to introduce in Chapter 7 was introduced much earlier. It's known as "That", and is shown to be the reason why Susan and Joker's friendship was falling apart. For those who don't want to read the first few chapters, please read on after the list.
Kajio's fighting style was also explained a little. It is hinted that he actually does kill his opponents instead of disabling them instead. Read more below if you don't want to reread the first few chapters.
From the fight scene with Natsu, one can see that Spade actually does kill his opponents, which would lead us to wonder if he really avoids killing in Joker's body.
Shamans: Some people are born with the ability to see, hear and feel ghosts, like Joker. These people are known as "shamans" and are very rare. If their power is properly utilized, they could destroy entire nations overnight, and so they are usually recruited by pirates or marines, but Joker is pretty useless, so that probably won't happen to her. She doesn't even know she is a shaman yet. She thinks what she does is normal. However, in their world, there are two types of shamans, the kind that come from our world and the native shamans. There is no difference in power or anything, but people from our world become shamans after being pulled/reborn into their world. For example, Perona is a native shaman who can't be considered very powerful, as she only uses low-level shades and was defeated by Usopp, but she is still much, much stronger than Joker, who might become slightly stronger later on. You can consider Joker and Spade's relationship a "contract" that allows Spade to use Joker's energy to become material or allow Joker to gain immaterial properties temporarily. However, the downside is that the ghost cannot become material for long, and it can only be used for once when in a sticky situation, or the shaman will use too much energy and die. If honed properly, this contract can be very powerful. In a contract, the ghost can also share the body of the shaman temporarily in a time of need, and the shaman would temporarily gain powers of the ghost. That is the basic power of a contract.
That: A sixth-sense like thing that is hereditary in many Asian families…or at least in some. Her great-grandmother was a witch doctor in China many decades ago, and the girls in her family all inherited a foreboding that would warn them if something good or bad is about to happen. In the first chapter, there were many signs that Joker did sense something bad was about to happen, but since Susan hated "that", she had been ignoring the forebodings for a long time. If she hadn't been ignoring it, she might've recognized the signs as something bad about to happen. Joker's mother, grandmother and her are also more sensitive to ghosts than others, due to her great-grandmother. All in all, she's still nothing special.
Kajio's Fighting Style: Renamed as the "Demon Hunter Style", it attacks the inner organs directly, which leads us to wonder if he kills all his opponents. Both him and Spade refrain from shouting out attack names, giving them the element of surprise.
Spade's Fighting Style: Unnamed. It is shown to be more dance-like, a style that relies on both brute force and highly refined techniques, though speed is also extremely important. He doesn't do "playing around". Like Joker noted, he also doesn't play nice. He has the intent to kill from the very beginning.
Thanks for reading, please review!
