I started this chapter with another author but then I finished it with the help of kagenoshojo. I wanted to make chapters more exciting than the ones before it and I think I have it right. Thank you for your support and please review after reading my chapters.

Rex hated company, but as someone who was blind, he had to pay attention to how many steps it took to get from home to school; and he despised it. That's why he had no way of getting home without said company to guide him. There was Keigo, the person he thought of as nothing more than a fool, Rukia, the girl he made a quick friendship with, and her boyfriend (or at least Rex thought he was her boyfriend) Ichigo Kurosaki. To those three he entrusted his safe return to mi casa.

"That was amazing, how you beat that guy", Keigo said in his unusually excited voice. "I swear, I'm never looking down on blind people as incapable of fighting again."

"He wanted a fight so I gave him a fight", Rex replied simply. "I can fight things way bigger than Yuko."

"Don't you mean people way bigger than Yuko?", Rukia asked, joining the conversation.

Not one of the people present knew that Rex had been helping ghosts and fighting strange monsters as a way to pass the time. And they would never know. They would never know Rex's vision changed when he was around those things; if anyone found out, he knew they'd do experiments on his eyesight and take him away to God knows where. 'Just a blind kid' was his disguise.

And there was a chance he'd just ruined that.

Keigo didn't seem to see anything wrong with the comment, but Rukia couldn't get it out of her head. Ichigo decided to ignore the slip of the tongue, understanding that Rex probably had his own reasons for not saying anything.

"So… how old were you when you had your first fight?", Keigo asked a little awkwardly, scratching the back of his head.

"I don't remember.", answered Rex, almost glad to change the subject. "I remember that when I was four, everything felt like a battle to me. When I was ten, I could finally tell when a battle was starting to when it was finished. That's about it."

"Wait.", they froze, hearing Rukia's suddenly sharp voice. She was silently watching a woman in the front lawn of a nearby house, practicing with a wooden sword. "Rex, is that your mother?"

"I don't know?", Rex raised his eyebrows, turning to where her voice was coming from. "I'm blind."

It had, in fact, been his mother. She immediately noticed her son; he felt her gaze on him. He knew she'd be angry if he stayed out late. She may have not heard about the fight yet, but that would do nothing to help Rex with the wound on his head spilling blood. At least one slash to the head awaited him for that, unless he got really lucky.

"Do you want us to lie to her, you know, about why there's blood dripping from your head?", Keigo asked, looking troubled.

"No," Rex shook his head. "That would only make things worse. Go home and let me face my punishment on my own."

"I have your garbs for the dojo. Put them on in the house and meet me in the dojo in ten minutes."

Rex was inside, and his mother was not holding back. She swung her sword like a gladiator in a coliseum, her movements careful and precise. Despite her anger, she didn't seem tense at all; her self-control was stunning.

Rex could hear her swing and he could hear the vibrations from her swinging her sword. He dodged and swung his own wooden sword at her torso; she jumped to the left, avoiding his attack. They attacked each other repeatedly, viciously trying to outmatch the other.

She moved swiftly to the right and slashed at his legs.

Rex acted too slow and got hit.

"If this was a real sword fight you would lose that leg," she lectured, glaring down at him.

Rex's mother wasn't finished with him. It was now time for hand-to-hand combat. Rex's mother pulled back her sleeves and tied her hair in a high ponytail to keep it out of her eyes. He dropped his sword and balled his fists, clenching his jaw.

They stared each other down for about a minute or so. Then, he pounced.

Fist's went flying. Rex made for a quick jab to the throat but was easily brushed aside by her right hand. She then, quick as a flash, shot out her left hand in an attempt for his solar plexus. Rex danced to the side and aimed an elbow at her head. She ducked and swiped out his legs then threw herself on top of him and socked him in the face. Rex's head snapped back painfully on the hard wood floor and he squeezed his eyelids together in an attempt to gather his scrambled mind.

A hand was placed on his throat and Rex made a small sound of surprise.

"Do you yield?" His mother questioned.

Rex nodded. What choice did he have?

Rex's mother slid off him and stood up. "Don't let me hear of you getting into any pointless fights ever again. You're above that. Oh, and do try to last longer next time. That was just pathetic." Then she walked away, leaving Rex lying on the floor with a split lip and one hell of a headache.

Dinner that night was tense.

Rex's mom was still mad at him while his father really just didn't want to get in between the two. So they all just sat there in the awkward silence, waiting for someone to break it. That was when(of course) Rex felt it. It was another one of those things.

Those monsters.

Rex politely excused himself from the table, found and tucked his sword under one of his longer coats and quickly snuck out of the house before his parents could notice. He wandered aimlessly with his eye stick, following the faintly sick sensation that oozed from every one of the monsters he'd crossed paths with.

He'd been taking these things down for what felt like so long that he could hardly remember how it had started. All he knew was that they were the only things he was able to 'see', in a sense.

He could, in a way, sense their shapes. They glowed in his world of darkness.

Pretty contradictory you might say.

The closer Rex got to the monster, the more he felt ill. It felt stronger that the ones he usually fought. Its dark aura of slick greed and lust made him want to throw up, but he fought down the bile that rose in his throat and soldered on.

It was another three minutes before Rex finally found the monster. It was roaming around what he suspected to be a park. Waiting patiently for some poor unfortunate soul to stumble across it.

Well, that wasn't going to happen.

Rex felt around for a safe place to put his eye stick, fairly confident that he'd be able to find it again after the fight, and then headed towards his next challenge.

He didn't give the thing any warning. He slid his sword out from its sheath and slashed at it from behind. Its screech grated at his every never but he continued his cutting. Rex used his sword as a guard as the beast retaliated by twisting around and backhanding him. Rex flew across the park and landed in a crumpled heap. He coughed in shock but stood up anyways. He was going to beat this thing. He refused to be weak.

The beast came barreling down on him with a roar of rage and Rex took up a stance. He slashed at a clawed hand that had been stretched out to grab him and managed to get a finger off. Blood sprayed from the now flailing hand, showering Rex with the thick liquid and dirtying the ground of the park. The monster screeched in agony and struck at Rex wildly, trying to get revenge for it's lost finger. Rex tried to dodge but the beast was too fast. Searing hot pain shot through Rex's world as his left arm was ripped open by waving claw and his blood mixed with that of the monsters on the ground.

Rex fell to a knee and gritted his teeth, trying to block out the pain. He hadn't been this severely injured in a fight up to date and the pain was excruciating.

The monster roared in triumph and tried for a finishing blow but Rex rolled to safety. Thinking he needed to end this fight quickly, Rex charged the monster, jumped, and sheathed his sword in the beasts head.

The beast dissolved like all the others, and Rex felt the rush of victory as he landed. That is, of course, until what Rex could only guess to be a sword was pressed to the back of his neck and a very dangerous, but eerily familiar, voice asked,

"Who are you, really?"

At first, Rex couldn't place the voice that seemed so familiar.

Then it clicked.

"Rukia?"
