James and Lucy woke up from their sleep the next morning with someone bursting into James' side room.
"Ohh my baby boy." Brooke Diamond exclaimed. She rushed over to his bedside with flowers in her hand. She put them onto the cabinet next to the bed then put her hands to his face. "Are you alright baby? Mommy's here now and she is going to look after you." Lucy was rather disturbed by Brooke's approach to caring for her adult son.
"Mom I'm fine stop acting like I'm 8 years old and I've fallen of my bike." James argued.
"This is much more serious than you just falling off your bike. Some scumbag shot you. I'm going to use my best lawyer to make sure that son of a bitch stays in prison for the rest of his life."
"Mom don't." James fussed. He knew his mom had no idea Harry was the one that shot him. No matter what he did there was no way he was going to use a lawyer to put his sort of brother-in-law in jail.
"Do we know who shot you?" Brooke questioned. James and Lucy looked at each other but didn't reply. "Well I'm sure we will find out." Brooke said. "Now you have no excuse not come back home for christmas." At this point a doctor came in and looked at the folder at the end of James' bed.
"Actually me and Lucy haven't discussed where we are going to go this christmas. This is going to be our first christmas together as last time we went to our families separately." He explained.
"Lucy can come too. You're both welcome. All I need to do is book a flight for you both and you can have your first christmas together round my house."
"Excuse me Miss but Mr. Diamond can't fly on an aeroplane for 6 weeks after his surgery." The african-american woman doctor informed.
"Excuse me." Mrs. Diamond mocked. "But who are you to tell me what my son can and can't do."
"I'll tell you who I am. I am a senior doctor here at this hospital and I'm telling you that your son can't fly until the new year."
"Are you telling me no?" Brooke snapped.
"Hell yeah. I AM telling you no." The doctor asserted triumphantly. Brooke stood astonished. No person had single handedly said no to her. She walked out the room while Lucy and James stared at the doctor.
"How did you do that?" James asked.
"I've had many years of mothers yelling at me. Granted most of them are in the children's ward but I know how to have power over them. Now I'll leave you two to discuss your christmas. FYI having your first christmas at your parents or in laws is never going to be as romantic as you plan it." She said while shaking her head muttering to herself as she left the room.
"So what are we going to do?" Lucy asked.
"I don't mind if you want to go to your parents."
"No. I'm not leaving you. I guess that leaves us one option. We have christmas at the apartment. Just you and me." She suggested.
"I like your thinking but I can see a drawback. Neither of us can cook a roast dinner."
"Good point."
"Who says we have to have a roast on christmas. I could make my world famous spaghetti and meatballs."
"Well they are world known." Lucy joked.
"There we go. Our christmas is being planned out. And depending on my condition I'm thinking of a pretty amazing desert." James said seductively.
"Oh really. What does it consist of?"
"Berries, whipped cream, chocolate sauce. Can you think of anything else you'd like to add?"
She leaned in closer to him. "A big. Thick. Hard-" As she was about to say the final word Brooke came back into the room. "I'm better now. I just had to cool off." Brooke voiced. As she didn't get to finish her sentence, Lucy looked at James, then down to his junk, then back up to him, indicating what her last word would of been. They then looked at each other nodding their heads, smirking.
"What's going on here?" Brooke asked.
"We were just planning our christmas day." James explained.
"Is it going to be good?"
"I think it will be the best christmas I've ever had." Lucy chuckled.
It had been a few hours and James had gotten up and got changed into his zebra print pyjamas.
"Can you ask the doctor if I can have any more painkillers." He requested.
"Are you in pain."
"It hurts so bad Luce. For once I don't care about my looks. I don't care that my hair is greasy and unstyled. That I'm sweaty and my breath must stink. The pain distracts me from all of that."
"Let me ask. I'll be back in a mo baby." She then got up and walked outside to the corridor. Brooke left about half an hour ago saying she had "business to handle." She walked towards the nurses station and after informing them of James' pain, not only did one go off to help him but she turned around to find her parents looking around.
"Mom. Dad?" She said to get their attention.
"There you are Lucy. We got the first flight out here. Where is James?" They then followed Lucy to James' side room where a nurse was putting pills into a little cup next to a cup of water.
"James how are you?" Mr Stone asked. James put the pills in his mouth and gulped them down with a mouthful of water. "Okay I suppose if you take into consideration that this time yesterday I didn't have a bullet in my liver."
"James we are sorry. We have no idea why he would do this. This is not the little boy we raised."
"But it is the litle boy you sent to military school." Lucy muttered to herself.
"What was that Lucille?" Her father asked.
"Oh nothing."
"Lucy dear can I talk to you outside." Mrs Stone asked her daughter.
"Err sure." Lucy then proceeded to follow her Mom outside. Once outside the room they found some seats and Mrs Stone starts the conversation.
"Lucy. I know what your father said on the phone to you when you said you were pregnant."
"And you hate me for wasting my life away at 21?" Lucy implored.
"No. You need to know that only your father thinks that."
"You mean that you're happy for me."
"Of course I am." Mrs Stone said excitedly. "I mean I would prefer you to be married but who cares about that now. And you can't tell your father this but." She then goes into her big handbag and brings out a cream Winnie the Pooh baby grow. "I couldn't help but buy this."
"Awww mom it's lovely."
"I kinda also bought this." She then continued to go back in her bag and pulled out a nursery rhyme book. "Oh my God Mom."
"I couldn't help it. I was in the store and I wandered down the children section and I couldn't resist. I want to spoil my grandchild even though it isn't born yet."
"Aww Mom. I love you."
"I love you too pumpkin." Her Mother said as they hug each other.
