I turned to the source of the gruffy voice and saw someone standing underneath the trees, the shadows covering most of their face. It definitely was a guy's voice and he didn't sound too friendly. He was looking at me like I'd done something inconsiderate or disrespectful. His eyes held a distinct coldness and I could detect a slight acidity within his voice.
'What's his problem?' I thought, furrowing my eyebrows slightly.
"What do you mean, the Cullens aren't allowed here?" I said, lacing my voice with indifference.
He simply raised a single eyebrow and gave me a look that practically screamed 'isn't it obvious?'
"The treaty states that they aren't allowed onto our land and, from what my sources told me, you are a Cullen; correct?" Both of us were locked in a bitter stare down, neither one of us ready to give up.
"Treaty? Nobody ever told me about this 'treaty', so you can't blame me for not knowing. I found this beach on my own without anyone telling me where it was." I said, trying to not get angry at him "And what's this about the Cullens not allowed onto your land? Did they do something wrong? Seemed pretty nice to me…" My voice drifted off and I looked off towards the coastline, thinking about what he said about this treaty and the Cullens. Was there something that they weren't telling me right from the start?
The wind picked up a bit and the scent of wet dog wafted through the air. I immediately thought of the Erasers scent. The match was uncanny and that fact alone made me start to quiver. I tried to make it off as me being slightly cold, but my eyes gave me away. He saw my terror and his eyes looked at me questioningly.
"What's wrong with you? Did the wind scare you?" He asked.
Finding my voice, I asked him "Do…. Do you own any dogs around here?"
His face held an array of emotions, ranging from confusion to a slight defensive stance. "No. Why do you ask?"
"No reason. I'll be off now." I said, walking off to the trees.
"Why are you walking that way? The road is in the opposite direction." He said. I could feel his suspicion growing with every action I made.
"This way is faster. Now if you don't mind, I'll be off now." I turned on my heel and walked into the trees. After a while, I looked back and checked if anyone else had followed me into the woods. Seeing nothing, I spread my wings and started to fly back home. As I flew home, I swore I heard a wolf howling and goose bumps crept up my arms. I looked down to the ground and thought I saw black shapes darting on the ground.
'Damn, I must be more tired than I thought.' My eyelids felt heavy and I was ready to just fall asleep at the tip of a hat. Reaching my window, I flew in and flopped onto my bed; falling asleep as I hit the pillow. Tomorrow, I'll ask them about this so called 'treaty'. I don't know why, but as I made that mental note, a feeling of dread followed. Surely they would've told me about it when I first got here. It couldn't be a bad thing, could it?
