Ch. 6 First Meetings

Well here is another chapter of A New Destiny and we are still going strong here. Get ready to hate Theresa even more as well but keep an open mind that not everything is as it seems.

Please read the latest chapter of Love of Dragonesses or Were It So Easy for the reason I won't be posting anything next week as saying it over and over just gets annoying after a while.

Quick response to a guest reviewer: They act like that now because he's A) only 19 years old and not what they think would be Guardian material and B) they don't have a lot of confidence in him yet. Their opinions of him will be changing throughout the story.

For all intent purposes, the male Guardians will have male Ghosts and the females will female Ghosts unless otherwise stated.

"Why did they have to stick me with a damn kid!" Theresa shouted as her ship dropped out of warp space. "It's like all three of them think he's some gift of the Traveler!"

Her Ghost tilted to the side. "He was chosen like every other Guardian and you all are equal in the Light. He has potential and, like the rest of the new Guardians, it has to be brought out and refined." Her Ghost replied in a wise tone.

Theresa snorted. "He ran away at the slightest taunt, if that doesn't say no talent then I don't know what does."

"Nonetheless, he is now in your fire team and you must learn to work with him. You never know but he might end up surprising you." Her Ghost replied as Theresa shook her head.

"I'll put in a request for a new team before that happens." Theresa said as she entered the Martian atmosphere; there were Cabal to kill and she needed to blow off some steam.

-With Avora-

"Do you really think he will make it?" Avora asked her Ghost as they stared out at space from orbit. It had taken her some time to locate Gabe's ship in orbit but she finally found it. She made no move to talk to him and only observed from a small distance away.

"According to the reports I have been able to gather, he does have some redeeming qualities: His temporary team leaders have stated that his spotting skills were second to none, his skills with the knife were completely above expectations and one report said that if he was brought out of his shell that he erected around himself then he was easy to get along with and talk to." Her Ghost replied in a slightly impressed tone. "He does have the aptitude but it has to be brought out."

Avora tilted her head. "A shell?"

"He keeps himself closed off from everyone around him for some unknown reason. His first team said that he was practically keeping a distance between himself and the rest of the team until they decided to try and coax him out of it." Her Ghost replied as Avora frowned.

"Is there any history on him that would explain that?" Avora questioned as her Ghost shook back and forth.

"The Vanguard have tried to find information on him but it as if he never existed, they even went far back as a century before the Traveler appeared but have found nothing on him." Her Ghost replied in a worried tone.

"No one just appears from nowhere." Avora said with a curious look. "He had to come from somewhere, can you do search of your own?"

"I can but it might take me some time. There is a lot of information I have to go through." Her Ghost said as Avora nodded.

"Do it." she said as she turned her attention back to the stars.

-With Theresa-

"You would think that they would get the hint to leave Mars by now." Theresa stated as she gazed at a now empty Cabal supply camp.

"No one knows why they are here." Her Ghost replied. "They just appeared and claimed Mars."

"Probably to gain a foothold and attack Earth." Theresa said with a shrug.

"I doubt it, they have had plenty of chances and yet they seem to be completely fixated on Mars." Her Ghost said after a few moments.

Theresa shook her head before she grinned. "Let's go back to the Tower, I'm buying!"

"i don't need to drink." Her Ghost said as Theresa waved her off. "Very well."

"Let's see the newbie top that." Theresa said as she appeared in her Regulus Class 77 ship.

"You dislike him because he broke your record of the youngest Guardian to kill an Archon and because he did it solo while you had a team of three.." Her Ghost said as Theresa scowled.

"He shouldn't have been on a trial in the first place." Theresa said angrily. "He is too young and he should have been denied from the start."

"You need to calm down and think about it. All the records I have of him have been nothing but positive so far; he has great skill with a knife and is one of the best spotters the Guardians have ever had in recent years." Her Ghost replied calmly.

"If he's so cool like you said then why did he run away like a coward at the Tower?" Theresa asked with a frown.

"One team reported that he kept himself at a distance and kept a shell around him to keep out everything. They ignored it until their leader had enough and dragged him out of it and a couple days later he was one of the best Guardians to talk to. Apparently he had quite a few things to say and generally kept everyone upbeat and happy." Her Ghost responded. "His actions suggest an abusive childhood or a run of bad luck."

Theresa looked away. "He is going to have to get over it if he wants to run with the Guardians."

Her Ghost looked at her for a moment. "I see...lets hope he does then."

Theresa set a course for Earth and within seconds they were off.

-With Avora-

"I checked all the records and information the Vanguard have on him and have nothing." Avora's Ghost said finally. "I even did a few searches from some questionable sources and they too have nothing."

"Did you check for abuse cases?" Avora asked as her Ghost dipped in acknowledgment.

"I did and nothing, we have plenty of Gabriel's and even quite a few Gabriel Locker's as his last name is but none of them match his appearance and age." Ger Ghost replied as Avora leaned back in thought. If there was one thing that Awoken hated it was an unexplained mystery and Gabriel was certainly just that.

"How far back did you search?" Avora asked finally.

"The same distance as the Vanguard, which was a century before the Traveler appeared." Her Ghost responded as Avora frowned.

'All of the rules state that only those who have laid eyes on the Traveler could become Guardians with exceptions to include up to 20 years prior to its arrival. Is it possible that he predated even that far?' "How far back can you search?" Avora asked curiously.

"I can go back as far as we have the records for but you know the rules-"

"I know what the rules say." Avora cut off her Ghost. "I just want to know how far back you could search."

"As long as we have access to records from the time period then I can go back as far as I need to." Her Ghost said as Avora narrowed her eyes in thought.

"How far do we have access?"

"Currently, we have access to records as far as 2900 AD." Her Ghost said as Avora grimaced.

'Only 200 years.' "Run a search from that period on and hope we get something." Avora said as her Ghost began a search.

-With the Vanguard-

"Whoever used this had it locked down pretty tight." A technician said as he handed the card back to Cayde. "It's not only key locked but also bio-metrically locked."

"All of this technology and we still can't break a simple fingerprint lock." Cayde said as shook his head.

"No two are the same." Ikora said with a smirk as Cayde grunted.

"Fine, we'll get him in here later but for now we have some work to do." Cayde said as they turned back to the table. "Hunter, you have your order's so I would advise you get some rest for tomorrow. You're going to need it." The Hunter nodded and left the room.

-With Gabe the next day-

"Guardian, we need to get moving or else we are going to be late." Ghost said as Gabe rubbed his eyes.

"Don't remind me..." Gabe drawled out as he shook his head.

"Your team leader requested you be at the upper courtyard in the Tower at 9 and it's 8:50 right now." His Ghost prodded as Gabe pushed him away.

"I got it, I got it." Gabe said as he rubbed his eyes again and plotted a course for earth. "Damn Ghost interrupted my sleep, it's the damn weekend."

"Guardians have no weekends or days off unless they are told by the Vanguard. Your team was given it but based on who your leader that just got negated." His Ghost said as they descended into the atmosphere.

"Great, my day of sleep is gone." Gabe grumbled as the ship flew over the city and touched down on the Tower.

"Aren't you the one who wakes up early?" His Ghost asked curiously.

"Habit during the week but on the weekends I slept a little longer." Gabe replied as he walked through the Tower to the upper courtyard. The upper courtyard was really just a long outdoor area with a center walkway that was flanked by a water on both sides of it and a large area at the back for viewing the surrounding forests.

"It doesn't look like anyone is here." His Ghost said as Gabe halted and looked around.

"No, we are being watched." Gabe said as he gripped his knife and then threw it at the upper deck to his left. True to his aim a figure moved at the last moment and became uncloaked.

"Kid does have some skill with the knife." The figure said as it jumped down to the lower level. "Name's Edgurdan but you can call me Eddie. And you must be the Gabriel."

Eddie was a hunter with a mash of dark silver and metal colored armor with short brown hair that seemed to be in the early stages of graying and one hazel eye and a white eye, possibly due to blindness but Gabe wasn't sure, and two scars on his face with one going from his left eyebrow to the opposite cheek and the other going straight down across his white eye. "In case you were wondering, I was blinded at one point but it's fixed."

"That would explain it." Gabe replied as he nodded. "How long have you been a Guardian?"

"Kid, I've been doing this for almost 10 years now and yes it does get easier as time goes on." Eddie replied as he checked the time. "Females are always late and since we got some time, let's have a small chat." That smirk Eddie had wasn't helping at all.

"Ok..."Gabe said as Eddie steered him out of the courtyard and into a nearby bar. 'This isn't going to be good.'

-A short time later-

"Of course, men are never on time!" Theresa said angrily as Avora sat down on the concrete.

"To be fair, we did arrive a little late." Avora said as she brought out a data pad.

"Calm down, we have the day off remember?" Her Ghost said as Theresa sat down as well.

"I highly doubt it will stay that way." Avora said as she nodded to approaching figure of Gabe and another Hunter.

"Great...my one day off in a year and its gone." Theresa said as Gabe halted.

"Well now that we are all here, let's get started shall we?" Eddie said with a grin. "Introductions first, my name is Edgurdan or Eddie and I am a Hunter."

"Theresa or Terri and I am a Warlock." Theresa said as she stood up.

"Avora or Avo as some have called me and I am a Titan." Avora said as she put her pad away and stood up.

All of them looked at Gabe expectantly. "Gabriel or Gabe and I am a Hunter as well."

"You're also short." Theresa said as Eddie cleared his throat.

"Enough, we are going to be part of a team so any problems stop right here." Eddie said with a tone of finality.

"Just make sure that he can keep up." Theresa said as she walked out and Gabe watched her go with a frown.

"Kid, do me a favor and go get a bounty from the board but make it something easy to start off with." Eddie said as Gabe nodded and walked out as well. "Are you going to storm off with her?" he asked Avora.

"No but you know that she is correct as well; if he can't handle this then he needs to learn it quickly and find another line of work. You and her both know how bad it can get and the outcome of those situations." Avora said as she too walked out.

"That's what I'm afraid of." Eddie said to himself.

And we will cut it there. They have all met and next chapter will be a first bounty mission so expect that as well.

Someone said that Avora seems to be the more mellow and that is because she is. The Queen seemed pretty chill while her brother was the complete ass so in my view Avora is the more level headed of the two females. Both will eventually warm up but like all things it take time to do it.

It's hard to describe that particular shader so I did my best but the shader was the Thunderdevil.

Read and review and I will see you all next time!
