Disclaimer: I do not own Tokyo Ghoul.

In this chapter I made Kaneki's story as short as possible so that there wouldn't be spoilers. I'm very grateful for all of you who were patient with me! I got too distracted due to a book I had ordered suddenly arriving four days ago. So exciting! I usually read books to get my imagination rolling.

Each time a character thinks the words will be Italic.

Dialogue instructions:

Kaneki: "-speaking-".

Kaneki: "-thoughts-".

REVIEW ANSWERS:

Thank you so much for the ones who reviewed and said that I should add Kaneki's story! ^^

I will also try my best to correct the grammar! ;-; I don't usually have the time to do so, but I ask for you to be patient with me.

I decided to write Kaneki's most important events in his life instead of telling the whole story. I will be adding Amon's reactions as well and his thoughts each time Kaneki explains a part of his life. However, I won't add every single thing. Kaneki still feels unreliably uncomfortable with a dove; therefore he will minimize the descriptions of his story. It will sound short but it will have an impact on Amon.

Please keep in mind that I don't know if this is consider spoilers! ;w; I won't add when he gets white hair but I'll foreshadow it a tiny bit. Read with your own cautious! Wouldn't want to spoil a great series!

Thank you for the wonderful reviews!

Kaneki has white hair here.

Enjoy!

WARNING: This is more about friendship! If you want smut, please go somewhere else. ^^; Thank You!

-Sholom Aleichem

-The living room-

Amon felt as if time had suddenly stopped. The ghoul's words had stunned him, making him wonder what he had done for Kaneki to be encouraged to tell him his story. However, he was excited. He showed a calm posture, but his mind was wavering around. He pondered over what he might hear. He wondered if he was the first dove to ever hear a ghoul speak about his life experiences. That enough gave him potential to listen to the ghoul and keep track of what he says.

Kaneki: "I—"The ghoul parted his lips slightly but closed them again. Amon could see he was mustering all the bravery he could gain to tell him his story.

Kaneki inhaled and slowly began to speak, his voice soft and memorable, as if trying to remember everything he has experienced in his life so far.

Kaneki: "I was born to a beautiful mother…as a human." Amon saw the small smile that was forming on the ghoul's lips. The lips showed happiness, but the ghoul's eyes were in pain. What shocked Amon was that Kaneki had just proved his theory to be correct. Kaneki had been human—but how he became a ghoul was still a mystery.

Kaneki: "She always took care of me. She taught me Kanji and all I needed to know on how to understand books and my studies." He closed his eyes, as if trying to form the very memory in front of him before he reopened them. "She died when I was a toddler; the doctor said she had 'over-worked' herself. You see…my mother's sister often bothered her with problems that she had, and so my mother tried to muster as much work hours as she could get."

Kaneki's eyes narrowed a bit, his lips turning to a straight line. If Amon didn't know, he would have thought Kaneki was ready to fight. However, Kaneki's words pulled the strings in his heart, he felt sympathy towards him. Soon Kaneki's expression softened as he talked on.

Kaneki: "I had a friend in school. He later would become my future classmate and best friend. He was always there for me, even on the days when I lived with my aunt. Years later, I was living in my very own apartment as dependable as I could be. However, on a day when I was walking home, I spotted a woman." Kaneki's eyes soften a bit, though the pain was back in them.

Kaneki: "The woman is also known as the Binge Eater."

Amon frowned at this, knowing where this was going. If Kaneki was human before, he wouldn't have noticed the woman he had seen that day to be a ghoul.

Kaneki: "We later met at a—coffee shop. She had accepted a date with me at the bookstore." Kaneki soon felt embarrassed when Amon had let out a soft chuckle, he had apologized but Kaneki hadn't mind. Hide had done the same, and it felt normal for others to do so too. However, Kaneki sheepishly smiled and laughed a bit as well. Amon caught sight of the ghoul's smile. It had pain written all over it.

Kaneki: "To me, the Binge Eater was a beauty. Although, one faithful night she asked me take her home. My life changed that day. I wouldn't have known that I would be in a near death experience or that the Binge Eater would be crushed by steel bars. I became what you see today but because I had a surgery, not a normal surgery but that of a ghoul's organ had been planted in me." Amon frowned as he listened, a piece of the jigsaw puzzle setting into place slowly. However, he felt a sharp pain on his heart.

Kaneki shifted a bit, setting a bit more comfortable as he continued his tale.

Kaneki: "I was taken in by the same coffee shop I had been in with my best friend and where I had met the Binge Eater. It turns out that the coffee shop itself was manifested by ghouls. I then trained to become a ghoul, though I did not accept eating human meat. Not yet." Kaneki mumbled the last words though Amon had heard them loud and clear.

Amon couldn't help to feel a boiling of anger and pity for the other. In his eyes, he could see the other as vulnerable now. A mere half-ghoul who has been wondering around for a place to exist. However, what did tug his hear the most was that he was forced to become a ghoul. The clue was there, that whoever had done the surgery, probably knew about what would happen or they had been the master mind behind it. Memories of the orphanage were falling onto him. He felt terrible; he didn't know if he had ever called the half-ghoul a 'monster'. And if he had, he felt guilt wash over him.

Kaneki: "Everything was going well at the coffee shop. I met many friends, many people who I now remember each day." Amon watched his expression, and felt as if the atmosphere around the half-ghoul was that of homesickness. He was silent the whole time as the other explained little details of what he did in that restaurant. Kaneki then continued speaking after explaining his way of living after the surgery.
Kaneki: "However, despite the happy days, I—had a bit of an encounter with the Aogiri Tree." Amon noticed that Kaneki had let out a shiver though his body but he had controlled it with all his might. Kaneki: "I was taken with them, and after 10 days, I was able to escape." He laughed a bit, but bitterly. He pointed to his white hair.
Kaneki: "By then, my hair, my mind and my body had been changed." Kaneki could not bring himself to mention Jason's tortures in the Aogiri Tree building. Just the thought of bringing back does days made him feel the need to split his brain in two and pull out all does memories.

Kaneki: "I stand here alive because I have been eating instead of letting myself be eaten by others." Kaneki frowned slightly, and soon stared at his hands for a while. He closed his fingers, staring at the color of his nails. Amon stayed silent, staring at the half-ghoul. His eyes couldn't contain anger and pure sympathy towards the other. However, he tried not to get to the conversation about what the half-ghoul had been eating all this time. Just the thought of someone asking that to a former human was enough to make him want to gag.

Amon: "This isn't the whole story, is it? You must have met other worse ghouls then that of the Binge Eater." Kaneki smiled softly at the dove and nodded. Kaneki: "The Gourmet as well as Jason." Just the names alone made his eyes widened slightly. Honestly, was Kaneki just 'danger' material? Not even doves had been able to meet that many infamous ghouls around the ward. After Kaneki's story, there was an eerie silence around them both. Amon frowned slightly, not being able to ask anything. However, he needed to know this for certain. Guilt was washing around him, and the question was dreadful to ask.

Amon: "Eyepatch…" Kaneki looked up at Amon. He waited for the other to ask what he was going to say. Amon: "Is that girl—is she the same girl that—"

Kaneki: "Yes." He answered before the other could finish words. "Hinami was the daughter of the mother you and your partner killed." Kaneki stared at the floor in silence. "Even though she acted as if she didn't know you, she knew who you were. However, we have practiced to hide our expressions and our feelings." He looked at Amon and smiled slightly. "I don't blame you. We think that you had no reason to kill Hinami's mother, but I am sure you felt the same when your partner was also—"He decided not to say the word 'dead' but knew that Amon was well aware of what had happened.

Amon: "She—is the same as you, in a way." Kaneki stared at Amon. He could tell that the subject of his partner was still too soft, and he understood. "She even calls you differently rather than just Kaneki."

Kaneki smiled though said nothing. He knew what the other was saying, he was actually happy that the other sort of understood what he had been wanting to show him all this time, but he didn't say anything further. His other half of the story about Anteiku and all the others would remain hidden.

Kaneki: "You are a good man." Kaneki whispered as he looked at his hands once more. "You don't seem like the type who would leave a friend for dead. You look like the type who stays true to his words." He smiled at Amon. "I wish we could have met in better terms, Amon-san." Amon's face tainted with slight pain at his words. Amon opened his mouth to say something but shut them once more. He didn't know what to say, it was far too much to take in. Especially if a half-ghoul still managed to smile at someone like him. But he felt the same way; it was hard for him to smile at a ghoul.

-Hinami and Banjou-

Banjou: "Hinami-san?" He asked the darkness of the bedroom. He could hear soft sobs, but they soon seized when Banjou had spoken. "Are you alright?" He heard fabric shuffle as well as blankets.

Hinami nodded, though knew that Banjou couldn't see her. "I just don't like Onii-chan being close to that man. He killed mommy, but Onii-chan had told me about his decision. If Onii-chan has good intentions, I won't ever interfere." She let out a sad whimper as she wiped her face furiously with her sleeve. "I don't like him, that investigator. What if he hurts Onii-chan too?" Hinami whispered and after a while she slept peacefully, as if her heart had told her to sleep now that the pain had been released in liquid form.
