Dynamite Mine, by Murder By Death

The party started as a jovial, loud event. Many were greeting each other like long-lost friends. Some as crisp and clean as her Lord. Kagome's blue eyes scanned the area feeling secure yet terribly nervous. It was clear that she was Sesshoumaru's guest. The thought if disappointing him was twice as terrifying as letting her old companion, InuYasha down.

Well, back when she harbored feelings for him. She shrugged her burdens and smiled when a Lord and who she assumed was his son approached the Taiyoukai. The conversation they held swept over mines and their employees, seeking guidance from the West on the matter. Sesshoumaru was very thoughtful, she noted, seeing his eyebrows scrunch together lightly, eyes deeply invested in the matter.

While his voice remained cool and calculated, she supposed after the exposure to his personality in their traveling days, she picked up much faster on his little cues than others. The son of the Lord sought her own, trying to engage in his own conversation. It was clear that he had no focus on the matters of his homeland or his father. A second son, most likely. Careful to be polite, she swept the room for similar auburn hair and found an elder son, harboring the same colors in both appearance and outfit.

"You are the Shikon Miko, am I correct?" The green eyed youkai started. What breed was he, fox? She couldn't tell. Pointed ears, auburn hair and one long, fine yellow stripe that went down his cheeks, all the way along his swan-like neck and into his hoari. Her eyes only strayed for a second before they met his own, crinkling in delight at her recognition.

"I am," Kagome said simply, giving a tiny bow under heavy layers. Her braid was heavy on her left shoulder but she dared not remove it. Some part of her felt attached to the idea that the man beside her cared enough to groom her.

"I am Kashiwa, second son of Lord Kaba," The man started, tongue passing over his lips to wet them. His eyes stayed focused on hers, a light, kind expression that held no expectations. It was nice to feel no pressure in her first conversation.

"It is an honor, your father has raised you well." She commended him for his kind introduction as the miko was certain she'd encounter those who expected her to know who they were by presence alone. The youkai son before her wasn't as strong as Sesshoumaru, nor was his father or first son. He pulled a hand from the wide hands of his hoari, exposing a lovely tulip.

With care, he gestured for her to take it. "My brother, Yanagi sends his regards and hopes."

Meaning he wanted to court her, most likely. Kagome felt a bit of anger brew in her stomach as she placed a gentle hand on Kashiwa's own. It was strange and caught both Lord's attentions. He looked surprised but did not recoil, merely turning the tulip to the side so she could touch his hand further.

"I must decline, Kashiwa. The gesture was very thoughtful and kind. However,-" a chew to her lip paused her sentence, eyes cast to the side before they met his own with woe, "I would prefer if your elder brother came to me with his intentions, not sending a messenger, let alone his brother, to do his bidding."

Kashiwa seemed to shrink back, a deep blush set on his face. The elder brother had halted his conversation to listen in, ears burning pink with embarrassment. It was the Lord beside Sesshoumaru who spoke next, three words only, "Admirable, Lady Miko."

Kagome flushed politely, hand not leaving Kashiwa's own. She bowed her head in the direction of the son's father, then turned her attentions back to shy green eyes. "I would accept this gift from you, Kashiwa."

Something in Sesshoumaru's gut stirred. His beast growled within its confines. He watched helplessly as the tulip was woven into her hair, the youkai son of the Eastern mines had laid a timid claim on her. The man couldn't help but think of the meaning of the flower in her hair, moko moko bristling.

Heaven, the Inu mulled, fitting.

Kagome looked to her Lord, seemingly about to say something before Kashiwa departed. Another suitor swiftly followed, another flower grasped between tan fingers. "My Lady Miko, protector of the Shikon Jewel..."

The miko sighed internally, it was going to be a long, flower-filled night.
