We Remain: Chapter seven
Clarke POV
Lincoln was sitting up now his eyes the size of owls, normally I would of found it amusing but his horrified expression changed this and I swung my body towards the door flap and almost choked on the nuts I was currently chewing.
"Fuckkkk" I heard Octavia drawl out.
Standing just inside the door was Hunter and someone I thought I would never see again or at least in a long time, Lexa.
They were both soaking wet from the pouring rain and their war paint seemed to have washed away. Hunter was wearing his hunting clothing and had what looked to be a few rabbits slung over his shoulder. While Lexa still wore her commander amour, long coat and dark boots.
Lexa was in complete commander mode, as I like to call it. Her head raised with an almost emotionless face, "I do not care if you have guests, this is my home just as much as yours Hunter."
Octavia did what Lincoln and I hadn't had the courage yet to do, she coughed grabbing both Lexa and Hunters attention.
Turning towards us Lexa's eyes caught mine and her mask slipped, her eyes widening and I caught her whisper my name "Clarke?"
Before she could say anything else hunter was beside me holding on to both my arms, eyeing my waste. "What happened?" he questioned me, concern evident in his voice.
"I tried it out with the huge guy, you know the one with the really long pony. It didn't go so well." I replied.
He smirked and lifted my chin searching for any other injuries. While doing this I caught sight of Lexas face and she was anything but pleased, her green eyes were narrowed like daggers at Hunter and when he slightly raised my shirt to see the stiches on my waist, I saw Lexa suddenly lay her hand on her side dagger.
Eyeing the stiches Hunter frowned "You should put something on that so you don't get an infection" nodding my head he turned back to Lexa.
Hunter waved his hand over to Lincoln "Lexa this Lincoln an old friend and his mate Octavia" then he laid his hand on my back and smiled "and this is Clarke." I noticed he was acting quite affectionate towards me.
Sure we had made a friendly kind of bond during my stay, but he seemed to be acting slightly different like he was staking a claim on me. Then again it could be something completely different for grounders, after all these people do sleep in trees.
"Lincoln, Octavia, Clarke this is my cousin Lexa." Of course they are related I'm such an idiot, then again from the moment I looked into Hunters eyes and saw Lexa. Some part of me knew, but I didn't want to accept it.
Lexa who had put her mask back on simply nodded at all three of us. As if this was the first we met. I could feel so much tension in the air I tried to escape "I left some medical cream in the supply area, I'll be back in a second" and made my way to the door flap.
Lexa grabbed hold of one of my arms and frowned "It is raining heavy outside, it may be unsafe to leave just yet."
I ripped my arm away and spat "I can take care of myself." I'm sure my hostility towards Lexa didn't go unnoticed but I didn't care. I opened the flap and stepped out into the pouring rain making my way to the supply area that was situated about 15meters away from the hut.
Once inside the small tent like structure that was made out of probably sticks, mud and most likely animal poo, I took a deep breath. I wasn't ready to see her again, not yet. I'm not dumb, I know as soon as I go back inside she will corner me and I don't know what to say. I don't hate her for taking the deal because it is possible I may have taken the deal it too.
It still didn't take away the pain though, especially since I was considering leaving to go to Polis with her after the fight. Maybe she is right maybe love is weakness.
I picked up the medical cream and turned to leave when I saw Lexa standing just inside the door flap. She must of taken her armour off inside the hut, looking at her now soaking wet she reminded me strangely like a deer, her green eyes wide glancing around the area unsure of her welcome.
Since she was either refusing to talk or just didn't know what to say, I started for her "What do you want Lexa?" I didn't want her to know she hurt me so I kept my face emotionless.
Stepping from one foot to the other she began "Octavia informed me you died in Mount Weather, why command her to do such a thing? Were you trying to hurt me?" she asked softly.
Confused at her question I shook my head "What type of question is that 'was I trying to hurt you.' Why would you even care?" she flinched. "You left my people to dieā¦.you left me to die."
She straightened her back and raised her head "Your angry"
I inwardly rolled my eyes "I'm not angry at you Lexa, had I been given your deal I may have done the same thing, I don't know. Just let it go, let me go." I said shoving past her.
However she didn't let me go she grabbed both my arms "Are you Hunters mate?" she asked, her eyes searching mine.
"What no" I replied surprised.
"Do you wish too?" she asked.
What surprised me was the look in her eyes as she asked it, as if she were begging me to say no. It was then I realised it would hurt her if I were to say yes, so I did just the thing.
"Maybe" I responded with a straight face, even though I had no intention on being Hunters mate.
The look of hurt and devastation that shone through her eyes was so overwhelming I had to look away. It did not make me feel any better that she was feeling the hurt I once did.
As I walked past her I heard her whisper "Are you punishing me Clarke?"
Not sure what she meant by that I pretended not to hear her, but I knew this conversation was far from over. However at least I had a break for now to clear my head and be ready for the next interrogation.
Octavia POV
With the rain so heavy we were unable to sneak out to our camp. It didn't however make the night uneventful.
Dinner was so awkward Lincoln and I hid away in the spare room.
"Come on Lincoln what's going on, I know you know something and your not telling me" I crossed my arms in very stubborn way.
Taking a deep breath Lincoln peered his head around the spare room to see if Lexa or Hunter could hear. "Hunter is not only the Commanders cousin but he was her lovers bodyguard.
"He was suppose to be on guard the night the Commanders lover 'Costia' was captured but he never showed up. From what he said she blamed him for her death and things between the two have been uncomfortable ever since.
I know there are many questions you would of expected Lexa to of asked Clarke when she first meets up with her in the supply room, but it was unexpected for both of them and they didn't have some speech ready, so I'm going to leave some things left unsaid for now and stretch it out a bit.
