Title: Until You're Gone
Scene 7
Act 1
Words: 2,024
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes Five hundred twenty-five thousand moments so dear Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes How do you measure, measure a year?
In daylights, in sunsets In midnights, in cups of coffee In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife In five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes How do you measure, a year in the life?
How about love? How about love? How about love? Measure in love
Seasons of love Seasons of love
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes Five hundred twenty-five thousand journeys to plan Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes How do you measure the life of a woman or a man?
In truths that she learned Or in times that he cried In bridges he burned Or the way that she died
It's time now, to sing out Though the story never ends Let's celebrate Remember a year in the life of friends
Rachel Barbara Berry was announced dead March 22, 2011 9:07 p.m.
The doctors tried their very best saving her. But yesterday, a nurse came into her room and her heartbeat was completely dead.
The next day at school, it was completely silent. Like nobody talked to anybody in the hallways. The first bell rang and all 12- well now it was 11 kids went to the choir room. They were in complete and utter silence. Mr. Shue came in a wrote on the board largely, "RACHEL" and most of them cringed at the look of her name.
"I'm guessing you've all heard the news. Last night, Rachel died from overdose along with self harm." Mr. Shuester said and Sam tried his very best not to burst into tears.
"Instead of us, just moping around we are going to something that Rachel would've wanted us to do. We're gonna celebrate her." He said and some people had very small smiles. "But before we do anything else we need to decide something. It was decided that the glee club sings at her funeral tomorrow. So anyone have any ideas of wh-" Puck raised his hand calmly. "Puck?"
"Um actually in Rachel's journal that she wants only two of us to perform one song for her funeral."
What?
"Uh- it does?" Will asked confused and a bit shocked. Rachel really wanted to die so much that she even planned who sings at her funeral? Puck nodded.
"It says she wants me and Quinn to sing this song." Puck said pointing at the journal where it said the song name. Will nodded.
"We can for sure do that. Well if you and Miss Fabray are comfortable with it."
"I can for sure do it." Puck responded smiling a little.
"Quinn?" Will asked her and Quinn was snapped out of her thoughts.
"Yeah. Of course." Quinn nodded, red eyed.
"Well then. You two should definitely rehearse."
"Don't think for one second I want to work with you." Quinn said as soon they got to the auditorium. Puck paused while he was taking his guitar out of it's case.
"Then why the hell did you say yes to doing this?"
"Because it's for Rachel."
"You know what? YOU shouldn't think that for one second ,Rachel thought you were her friend." Puck snapped at her and her eyes got glassy.
"Shut up."
"Oh what? Little Quinnie doesn't wanna hear the truth."
"Shut. Up." She said a bit louder as tears rushed down her face.
"Well newscast! Rachel hated you. She always did. And she died hating you." Puck said harshly.
"Shut the fuck up Puckerman or I swear to god I'll-" She stopped herself.
"You'll what? Beat me up in the shower like you did to her?" Quinn was now sobbing and Puck didn't even feel a little bad.
"Let's just rehearse please." Quinn pleaded as Puck put his guitar on him and they took out the lyric notes.
Mike Chang's life had just been shattered.
His best friend of 14 years had committed suicide.
He had been sitting outside by himself with his lunch on his lap. No one dared to talk to him.
Suddenly, Mike was no longer outside. He was inside a cube shaped white room. There were no doors or windows. Just a camera in the top center of the room. It moved and adjusted as he moved.
"What the hell?" He banged on the walls trying to get out. Suddenly music played.
I don't care what you talkin' 'bout baby
[Mike couldn't control the words that were coming out of his mouth.] I don't care what you say Don't you come walkin' beggin' back mama I don't care anyway
[Why was he singing? He was trying to shut his mouth but his body wouldn't let him] Dime after dime I gave you all of my money No excuses to make Ain't no mountain that I can't climb baby All is going my way
'Cause there's a time when you're right And you know you must fight
[Suddenly, he started to dance along and the camera kept adjusting] Who's laughing baby, don't you know And there's the choice that we make And this choice you will take Who's laughin' baby
So just leave me alone Leave me alone (leave me alone) (leave me alone) Leave me alone (leave me alone) (leave me alone) (leave me alone) Leave me alone, stop it! Just stop doggin' me around
[He started banging on the walls looking for a way out]
There was a time I used to say girl I need you But who is sorry now You really hurt, you used to take and deceive me Now who is sorry now You got a way of making me feel so sorry
[He finally broke the camera in the center] I found out right away Don't you come walkin' beggin' I ain't lovin' you Don't you get in my way
'Cause there's a time when you're right And you know you must fight Who's laughing baby, don't you know And there's the choice that we make And this choice you will take Who's laughin' baby
[He just kept banging on the walls]
So just leave me alone Leave me alone (leave me alone) (leave me alone) Leave me alone (leave me alone) (leave me alone) (leave me alone) Leave me alone, stop it! Just stop doggin' me around!
Mike broke something on the wall. It was glass. He looked down to see it was a framed photo of Rachel.
What?
Suddenly, Mike was no longer in the room. He was back outside. His lunch was on floor and his hand was bloody. Wait-. Did he really punch glass? He looked around. He punched the fucking brick wall behind him. Mike sighed as he walked himself to the nurse to get a bandage.
It had never really occurred to Mike that maybe- just maybe- he was in love with his dead best friend.
The funeral had come soon. Everyone had cried. Even Santana. After the pastor made a speech about the things that will happen, Mike walked up to the podium to make his speech.
"Um hi. I'm Mike Chang, I was one of Rachel's best friends. I had known Rachel since we were little kids. We would always make jokes and play around with each other. Actually-" Mike chuckled. "I remember when we were about 10, my mom had given us the job of making cookies for the school bake sale. Rachel and I destroyed that kitchen." Mike laughed lightly and so did the audience. Mike's eyes filled with tears. "I remember we use to go to dance class together and after she would try to teach me how to sing. It really hurts knowing that I could never get back-" Mike paused and sniffed. "I could never get back my best friend. My sister. My dance partner." Mike cried and sat down. Puck was next.
"My name is Puck." Puck snickered. "If Rachel were here she would've scolded me and called me Noah." He said and some of the glee club kids laughed in agreement. "Rachel was my sister. And I really miss her. I'm really scared to cry because I may never stop. She was the inspiration in my life. If I stopped she would've told me to keep going, if I was stuck she would've helped me out, and even if I was drowning she would've jumped in the water to save me. And she didn't even know how to swim." Puck sighed trying not to cry. "Um, Rachel requested that at her funeral me and Quinn Fabray sing a song for her on my guitar." Puck said and Quinn stood up, grabbed his guitar , handed it to him and stood next to him. He put the guitar on.
"This one's for you, my hot Jewish American angel princess." He said looking at the sky.
Puck Quinn
She sits up high, Surrounded by the sun. One million branches and she loves every one. Mom and Dad, Did you search for me, I've been up here so long, I'm going crazy.
And as the sun went down, We ended up on the ground. I heard the train shake the windows You screamed over the sound. And as we own this night, I put your body to the test with mine. This love was out of control, 3-2-1 where did it go?
Now don't be crazy, yes now, Of course you can stay here been in a touring band for going on ten years "Big deal," She said, " i guess you're official" I only said it 'cause I know what it's like to feel
BURNED OUT It gets you down, We've all been there sometimes But tonight I'll make you feel beautiful once again.
And as the sun went down, We ended up on the ground. I heard the train shake the windows You screamed over the sound. And as we own this night, I put your body to the test with mine. This love was out of control, 3-2-1 where did it go?
If I were you, I'd put that away See, you're just wasted And thinking about the past again Darling, you'll be okay.
She said, "If you were me, you'd do the same 'cause I can't take anymore I'll draw the shades and close the door Everything's not alright and I would rather..."
And as the sun went down, We ended up on the ground. I heard the train shake the windows You screamed over the sound. And as we own this night, I put your body to the test with mine. This love was out of control, Tell me, where did it go?
As the funeral ended there was a brief after party at a banquet hall. Nobody was very happy but then again nobody wanted to be too sad. Puck and Santana were talking to each other when all the sudden Puck saw a girl with blue eyes and brown hair lock eyes with him and storm towards him.
"Oh shit." He muttered under his breath. Oh god, not now.
"Puckerman" The girl said pushing him angry with tears in her eyes. Santana calmly held her back.
"Where the hell is she Puckerman? Where the fuck is she?" The girl said getting loud. Mike and Sam walked towards them. Mike widened his eyes in surprise. The girl noticed. "Mike? Where is she? Please tell me!" The girl said crying more.
"Woah, woah, woah. Who the hell are you?" Santana asked her. The girl wiped her tears and flipped her hair.
"I'm Rachel's older sister."
